A flash of anger went through Zulfiqar's mind as she questioned his intentions, offended she would think he meant anything other than what he said. What was up with that? Suggest he leave from his home, imply to come with her, only to be taken aback at the very idea? Silly woman. Psh... He was too good for her anywa--...
Well, that made sense.
Her clan was ruled by a Niday and Dayht... strange names for naga.
Her next statement explained everything. A clan not comprised of naga? One of those other pae, the very ones who had attacked his family and driven them from so prime a location, who revolted in their appearance and presence. Those creatures were her clan? He could hardly hide his suspicion of the idea; at the very least, he now considered the notion of the Tartara Clan to be a hoax and she to be clannless.
Still... such a number of allies could prove useful in time, even if they were no true equal to they... if he could shape her into a true empress, one who's very presence could invoke the fear of the others about her... This might be the very opportunity he was seeking. Her naivete would prove beneficial to his cause.
Standing tall, he nodded once. "If you and they would have me, I would have reason enough to leave the Dragnid and my clan behind."
He would join their clan and display his strength to her, enamoring her, pursuing her, and when enough time had passed and they had both shed their scales once more, he would convince her to become his and start a clan all of his own. It seemed a foolproof plan, given what he assumed of her nature. It would take time, surely, but with enough suggestion and manipulation, he certainly could mold her into a perfect mate...

For all the meticulous planning so characteristic of his behavior, this was going to be one time he recklessly got himself into a situation he did not have near enough information to plan out fully. He understood that. He also understood the potential it seemed to bring to establish an area all his own, and even the potential for a mate. Especially if she came from a 'clan' of non-naga, that would only make him more appealing with time. It was worth the risk.
Nodding once, he paused a moment to register the new convention before extending his hand to meet hers. His grip was strong, yet surprisingly gentle given his demeanor. Perhaps it was because she was female; perhaps it was because he viewed her as a potential mate.
"Deal."
He nodded once before glancing up; it was drawing past the midday, an indication he needed to return soon, else risk being alone at dark.
After hearing of their rendezvous date, he said his goodbyes and disappeared once more into the darkness, not to meet her again until then.
