It was a typical day for Dotty McFearsome. She was quietly moping at her home by the lake, hating the world, hating life. As usual, she was mourning what never was and what could have been. She mindlessly kicked at rocks, watching them 'splunk' into the water. While she could smell smoke off in the distance, she figured that a two-legger had started a fire to get warm, or that a fire 'suti had gotten angry at something and decided to take it out on some brush. It never occurred to her that it could be much, much worse. Then again, for Dotty, nothing could seem to get worse than it already was. Life was miserable, existing was pointless, and all there was to do in the world was wither away into the abyss. She sighed heavily, kicking another stone into the lake.

Kaska trudged along the path she had been following for days to no avail. A gypsy mare had told her that at the end would be a teepee, and in it would be a fairly well-known green and black mare, of whom she believed to be related to. She had been moving for days now, stopping only to raid a few teepees along the way, none of which seemed to contain the mare she sought, nor anyone who would admit to knowing her. The hybrid believed the teepee to be somewhere near water, as she'd heard of it before, but she had no idea what she was looking for. If she was steered the wrong way, she was determined that she was going to find that mare one way or another to let her know just what she thought of her and her directions, and it would probably not go well for either of them.

Jayashri had smelled the smoke and instantly headed toward it. Fire usually meant that there would be somebody in need of help or healing, or both. Although she knew the risks, she felt as though the danger would be worth it if she could help just one individual. Persistently, she pushed on through the smoke and the ash, hoping to find someone. However, she truly wished not to find any creature that wasn't able to make it out. It would be horribly difficult to assist anyone who couldn't walk, or someone she couldn't carry such as a flutter. Adrenaline filled her body and her mind raced, hoping for the best outcome of this horrible disaster. When she reached the flames, however, she was forced to push back. Jay felt utterly defeated by this.
