Torolf had entered into the competition just to support Kelda. Now he found himself in the second to last battle. He was near to the end and it blew his mind. His grandmother of course was over the moon. Nawiri had always wanted to do more and be a reaver but a shoulder wound in her youth prevented her from doing it. Unlike Nawiri Umeko, Torolf's mother, had chosen to remain just a freeborn, she worked but tending to the copious amounts of wounds the freeborn seemed to stack up.

Given how well he had done Torolof had caught the eye of a couple of captain and now he was pretty sure that he was going to go out on a viking at the wrap up of this competition and gain his spot as a Reaver. His eyes scanned the crowd looking for his next opponent. Finally he spotted her, a darkly coloured female with stripes like a tiger. He swallowed and made his way into the competing area.

Aarre had not expected that she would fare this well in the tournament, and although she was proud of her achievement, she was also tiring. Her first opponent had been a pretty vicious fighter, which was not unexpected in a female, and her second opponent had been more interested in tricks than using his superior size against her, for which she was grateful. Nevertheless, her body had taken some abuse and the cuts from the points her opponents had scored against her stung with the sand that had inevitably gotten into the wounds.

Looking at her newest opponent, a dark lion with a somewhat shocking blue mane, she had the feeling this would not be an easy match for her. Even so, she grit her teeth and flexed her claws into the sand around her paws, ready to take on this next challenge. She had made it this far, and begun to hope that she might make it all the way. After all, her opponent had to be at least a little tired by this point in the day.

Torolf moved in towards the female. It still felt weird to him fighting a girl, it wasn't that he thought they were any easier to beat, Anika had raised him better than that. Instead it was Torolf's instincts to protect that made it difficult for him. He gave his head a shake, she was hear to compete just the same he was and he would do his best to give her a fair fight.

"Its a good day to die." he greeted her before he lunged forward, he was aiming for a clean hit on her front leg. He bent his head down trying to keep his balance as he moved to bite her right leg. His hope was that if he was able to keep his head down and out of the way she wouldn't be able to land a rebound point on him.

"It is a good day to die," Aarre agreed, pleased to have this moment to collect herself before the match began. She didn't think she'd have time to plan out anything resembling a strategy, but still.

Unfortunately, the greeting had also served as a distraction, since her opponent followed it up almost immediately with a lunge that sent her leaping to the right. Doing so brought her into a direct collision with his head, and she could feel his teeth raking across her front.

Without thinking about it, Aarre flung out one paw, claws extended, in an attempt to keep her balance. If it just so happened she slapped her opponent and drew blood in the process, that would be even better, since he had just earned a point with his sharp teeth. She would like to keep the tally even, at least until she could defeat him.

His wishes of new rebound point on her side failed as he felt her paw meet the side of his head. It was a good hit and as Torolf moved off his head was spinning a little. He moved away getting ready to circle around to come back in. He blinked a few times trying to move the stars from his eyes.

He took a deep breath. He had to focus now, he had after all gotten this far there was now a large part of him that wanted to win the whole thing. Already he had captains approaching him so he wanted to give them a show and a half.

He stared his opponent down and circled around her instead of coming at her head on he went for her side, he extended his claws just enough to draw blood as he took a swipe at her hips.

Aarre spat as her opponent's claws carved slashes into her hip. Her instinct told her to roll under hip and punch upward into his gut with her hindclaws, but doing so would be against the rules of the tournament, and would injure one or both of them badly, depending on how he reacted.

So she could only jerk her hindquarters away before he could get any further blows in and twist herself practically into a helix so that she could snap at his side or shoulder with a quick n**. It wasn't a fantastic plan, as plans went, but planning in the midst of a fight wasn't really worth much anyway.

She was completely unaware that she was grinning as she fought.

Torolf took a deep breath, he had managed two points and it was first to three that would win. That would mean just one more point and he could be declared the winner. He began to realize he could do this, he could win.

However he was thrown off when he looked back at the female who he was fighting against. The grin the was splayed across her lips sent a chill down his spine. Torolf had never been a fighter, he had honestly surprised himself at how well he was doing well.

He tried to make a second go at his opponent but all he could see was her grin. He made a move towards her but it was a wide miss. He hadn't come anywhere close to hitting her. He made a frantic swipe but hit nothing but air. s**t perhaps he shouldn't have gotten so cocking one point was still between him and winning and now he had opened the door for her to catch up.

Aarre's eyes were wide with surprise when her opponent missed his next strike. Sure, she had done her best to evade him, but he had already proven he was good, and she couldn't believe she had gotten away with it.

This time, she reminded herself sharply, her eyes narrowing once more. She had to end this quickly, or else he might land his next blow.

She snarled and feinted toward his brow with her right forepaw while closing the distance between them and striking out with her left, aiming past his head's current location in the hope that when he dodged her right she'd catch him with her left. It could work. It could also bring her entirely too close to his claws and teeth, but she'd deal with that possibility if it came to it.

She hoped it would not come to it though. She was definitely tiring and wouldn't be able to remain light on her feet for too much longer.

I am so, so sorry it's taken me this long to reply to this. I had forgotten that it was still ongoing.

Torolf fell for the trap and dodge right into her paw. He felt her paw come down onto his head. He realized at this moment that they were now tied. He now had to land his next blow or else he would be out. He never realized he cared so much about this match until he was close to loosing it.

He kept his momentum and angled his head down after the blow. He moved quickly and found his mouth wrapped around ankle, he clamped down biting only hard enough to get the point. He moved back up a smile he could not control spreading across his face. He had done it he had won.

Aarre's lips drew back involuntarily when she felt her opponent's teeth close around her ankle. It wasn't nearly as hard a bite as it could have been, but it was enough. She had not won this match.

"Good fight," she said to her opponent. Her teeth still showed, but not in aggression. More in something between a grin and panting.

It was a disappointment not to have won, but she had fought hard. They both had. It had been a good fight, and she had every reason to be proud of her performance. After all, she had made it through two rounds of battle, which was no small feat.

"Good luck in the next round," she added.
