Etsali disrespects the champ!! A chase ensues. Drama! Daring! A fight you don't want to miss!

The Coliseum was as busy as ever. Tonight, headliner Jaawhn Sheena was taking on one -- no, two -- no, five! Trolls at once, and the stadium was absolutely packed. Only standing room available, Four Fronds was bustling as trolls lingered in the concessions area for a drink to cool off between rounds before the big show. The current spectacle taking place in the ring was a simple criminal execution. Two fighters, fighting to the death. This time they were only allowed to use objects from the naturally created ring in the fight (quite a twist), which was created to look like an odd, crystalline desert terrain. The fight seemed to drag on as the two flailed around with cacti and gemstones in the ring. The audience was impatient. Results on Alternia were always important, and keeping any bloodthirsty troll waiting for the main event (or withholding said blood) was not good for business. Tonight, the crowd was particularly ferocious. Throwing weapons into the ring to speed up the fight, shouting jeers and screaming into the heavens, and even faint honking from the juggalo section made the Coliseum into a writhing pit of irritation, waiting to scream, shout and purchase merchandise for the real main event soon to come. Ahh, Alternia's favorite sport.

Outside of the hubbub, Ganyma Callow wandered about the concessions area and made his way backstage. He was no stranger to the criminal fights (he was one, once himself) and didn't mind knocking heads loose with fighters who had to serve their time. After all, even though he had been there under false pretenses, the real criminals - like Vulpin and Forera - garnered no sympathy from him. Tonight, however, the gratuitous violence and shrill screaming in his ears was making his head ring. It was time to cool down.

The locker rooms (or the Impedimenta Vault Blocks, as lowbloods would call it) were a place that Ganyma often went to think, and for sanctuary. Fighters didn't often spend much time in the public space unless they had full body-paint to put on, and it was strictly for fighters like Ganyma with light-to-medium armor. The full-fledged metal and tech armor that other fighters wore was much too hefty for the simple locker rooms, after all. It made the space quaint. Like a regular New Hemisect City gym. Ganyma wandered by some of the special dressing rooms, held only by the most influential of fighters in the arena.

Machia Sphair... Saraab Tunisi... And there he was. The Champ! Jaawhn Sheena's locker room. The light was on under the door - Ganyma frowned a bit, but didn't dare enter. He may still be doing-- whatever he needed -- to prepare for his big match tonight. The tealblood decided to make his way over to his own vault, opened it and produced a bottle of water from within. The troll sat behind a large island of vault blocks in a corner, a Rank F gladiaterror's spot. He was fine with this for now. Being out of view of the others made him a bit of an underdog, but that's how he liked it. When he sat down in the corner he could be completely alone. He took a seat on the bench and took a moment to think.

There was a big match at the Coliseum tonight and though Keeper had always warned her away from approaching Four Fronds at all, Etsali knew that there was, in this case at least, no better place for her to be. The stadium was packed wall to wall with trolls of all castes and it was loud, chaotic, and full of so many shiny things to steal she could barely stand it. With such a dense crowd, the work was almost too easy. Which was maybe why instead of slipping through that crowd, taking everything she could get her hands on and covering any bumps with a faked enthusiastic cheer like she’d planned, she had gone and gotten herself fixated on a treasure that would not be easy to claim at all.

It had been hard to think of anything else from the moment she'd glanced curiously up at the framed posters of the Coliseum's lobby, though. The gladiaterror champions had had one very interesting thing in common, usually held high in victory, and more than anything she found she wanted to see for herself how it might shine in person. She didn't care how risky it would be to get her hands on it, didn't even care that going for it meant giving up the chance at plenty of smaller treasures (though on second thought that was a shame).

The Champion's belt was going to be hers.

Finding her way backstage and into the impedimenta vault blocks was easier than she might have expected, but she kept her steps light and her eyes and ears open. The room was empty for now, but that didn't mean it always would be and she had to be careful. Tugging idly at the end of her scarf for luck, she made her way towards one of the further doorways and hoped that being Champ meant being important enough to get your name on a door. Evidently it did, because there it was, Jaawhn Sheena.

The door hadn't even been locked, and she wasn't sure whether that was lucky circumstance or just that a thief crossing back here hadn't occurred to anyone yet. She'd needed to turn on the light, though, to see anything, and even with the door closed behind her she knew that was a big risk. Moving fast was the name of the game now, so she grabbed her target and then, just because something sitting out waiting to be taken was still too easy, gave the rest of the room a good once over for anything she might be able to slip into a pouch.

A few moments later the light in the Champ's room cut out, the door crept open ever so slowly and then closed just as gently. Etsali moved quickly for the exit.

Ganyma sighed and put his chin on his fists. He crouched quietly in his little corner, waiting on the bench for some inspiration. The shouts and sounds of the ring started to fade just as he closed his eyes. Settling down gave him peace of mind. He drifted to his next fight, going over what he would need to prepare for it with a mental note to himself. It was going to be his first one on one fight. Just a simple lead-up to the main event, of course, not even the opener or the last fight beforehand. He was facing off with a telekinetic, though, that was for sure. She was quick but uncontrollable. And, her ranged prowess was on spot. After his spar with Luxara he’d realized his weaknesses to such attacks. He wouldn’t make that mistake again. Ganyma hummed lightly. Soon maybe he’d go back and check her records again. For the fifth time. Just in case he’d missed something. As he recalled, she—

What was that.

Ganyma swore he was alone. His head popped up from behind the block of lockers, just in time to see a shadow slip out of the room. Strange. He hadn’t heard anyone come in! Ganyma stood up and curiously walked to the middle of the room. Maybe his mind was playing tricks on him. The glint of something metallic and a figure passing by? He was just imagining his next fight – a shot at some kind of lower-tier title. For Ganyma’s armor class, belts were the classic Alternian trophy. Other spoils like weapons and trophies and shiny scuttlebuggies were, of course, a part of it. But he wanted that belt. Sheena’s belt! Ganyma smiled fondly and stopped in front of the Champ’s door on his way out.

“Wait a second…” Ganyma said. Something seemed off, but he didn’t know what. He looked down at door. Wracking his brain, he ultimately decided that it was all in his imagination. Suddenly, a troll rushed in. An orangeblood, clearly an assistant of some kind – panicked. “MOVE! MOVE!” She screamed. Ganyma hopped defensively out of the way as she charged through the door.

“I need – where is – WHERE IS THE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT? I NEED IT FOR THE MA—“ She stopped midsentence as Ganyma could hear her rummaging through the room. She screamed again. Soon, the orangeblood was accosting Ganyma, her bulk pushing him up against the locker block. “YOU! DID YOU TAKE IT?”

“N-No!” Ganyma held his hands up, his eyes wide with fear. Someone had taken the… Someone… His mind’s cogs ticked slowly into motion. “Oh-oh my gog, I just saw someone leave with something shiny! I’ll—“

“YOU BETTER GET THAT OR WE’RE BOTH CULLED!”

Ganyma was already sprinting out the door, leaving her midsentence. Her words echoed through the halls. Oh no. Oh, no. The Champ’s belt was gone! This was his chance to make it…. Or break it. Ganyma cleared his throat. This was a travesty. No self-respecting fighter would ever do something so despicable. Well, maybe they would – but in the ring! Like a true troll, face to face with violence! He rushed through the backstage hallways, trying to catch sight of this unscrupulous culprit!

Etsali didn't let herself break into a run, not at first, because there was still a chance of drawing undue attention to herself. If anyone saw her, she needed to be able to pretend she was supposed to be here. So speed walking was alright, but sprinting was not and neither was obviously carrying a prized possession of a Champion right in plain view. There weren't many options for covering that, though she had a story about buying a replica souvenir that might save her if it came down to it. The best thing she could think to do was to turn it over and latch it over her shoulder and across her chest as if it were some sort of bandolier, the bulkier and shinier section pressed into her back.

At first glance, someone crossing paths with her might even think it was just the strap of a backpack. And in the end, maybe that had been just enough to keep the orangeblood rushing down the hallway from stopping to apprehend her. She'd obviously been in a rush to get somewhere, and Etsali could only count her lucky stars that getting there had topped questioning the random teen who'd so helpfully stepped to the side to let her pass.

A little chattering voice in her head reminded her that she was pushing luck that wouldn't last forever, and so once the other troll was out of sight, Etsali did a little mental calculation of distance and promptly booked it for the doorway she'd been looking for. It got louder and louder the closer to got to the relative safety of the crowd, and finally her hands were on the doorknob. As it twisted, she couldn't resist looking back to make sure she was in the clear.

The thief immediately wished she hadn't, her breath catching in her throat as a bulky tealblood rounded the corner at a full on sprint. That was a troll on a mission and he was headed right towards her. Squeaking, she pulled the door open and flung herself through it, letting it swing itself closed behind her. She stumbled into several people in her rush to get more bodies in between her and it, and then staggered with the thought that if that guy was after her, it wouldn't be enough. She couldn't take chances.

Etsali's mind raced to a possible solution and found the only one fast enough. She came to a full stop and whirled, arm lifting as she pointed at the doorway she knew might open any second now. Her mouth opened to release a shrill and ungodly shriek that cut through the din of voices and turned heads. "OH MY GOG, IT'S JAAWHN SHEENA!"

The crowd surged, but she kept her pose, waiting for enough space to continue her escape without being swept up into them.

((HEY I had a thought -- if you wanna make THE CHASE the battle (or part of the battle), we can start rolling and make the attacks obstacles and attempts to catch up/snag Etsali/throw stuff at Ganyma/etc OuO Chase + stamina battle.))

Ganyma went through the twists and turns of the Coliseum. Back when he was a child, his strength was in memorizing the many street signs, alleys and shopfronts in New Hemisect. It was fortunate that he managed to grow up with those traits. Using them as fuel to increase his confidence, Ganyma counted off the backstage doors as he counted them. One. Two. Three... Four, and he'd be around the corner. Right. There she was -- through the door! Ganyma squinted with the light and made chase. He knew she'd be in the main "lobby" (if you could call the huge open area in front of the Coliseum that), and that the entrance was no easy gate to get through. She must have been going towards the fighter outlet doors. It was close to the Staff Only areas of the Coliseum -- not to mention the quick and dirty emergency exits. He had to cut her off.

He caught sight of her through her troll-shields as he pushed and shoved to get past. "Uh - 'scuse me! Sorry!" Ganyma rumbled. He nearly stumbled over a small child and their lusus, but it was worth it! It was worth it for the cham--

"OH MY GOG, IT'S JAAWN SHEENA!"

Ganyma blinked. He stopped for half a second and looked around expecting to hear his infamous theme music. "Wha--?" The crowd went wild. Ganyma whirled. Finally, it sunk in. "Oh-- DAMN IT!"
To be fair, if this was a fighting scenario it would have been likely that the Champ would have intervened to take down the badguy. Ganyma could dream. In the meantime, he had a thief on his hands that was quickly getting away from him.

The tealblood flushed hot teal and nearly had to run on top of the frothing, quickly coalescing crowd in order to keep sight of the orangeblood. If she didn't go into the restricted areas she'd be trapped for sure - he just had to bank on knowing the format of the Coliseum better than her, and he'd be as golden as that belt. Around him, the crowd swelled and began to take note of the fighter running through the group. He dully realized that this could either further his reputation in front of the audience, or... Well, it wasn't as though he was better off a criminal. Ganyma refocused and finally untangled himself from the crowd.

Etsali risked a glance over her shoulder as she made another break for it, and couldn't help but laugh. She'd been hoping the trick would work, but she hadn't expected it to work that well! She hadn't bought quite enough time to sit around and giggle about it though, so she quickly turned her eyes to the front and focused on the escape again. Not everyone had taken up her call to swarm, though she wasn't sure whether that was because she hadn't screamed loud enough or if they were just too preoccupied with other things. Regardless of reason, there were enough of them that they were more an obstacle for her than a potential help now.

She had to figure out where to go from here. It was quickly becoming clear that the entrance gate wouldn't be an exit, at least not an easy one, so the only thing to do was keep moving in and hope for another exit sign. The only trick was reaching it before the tealblood reached her. As fast as she was running, it was hard to take everything in and judge the best path through in that little bit of time as trolls moved about the lobby, but she thought, maybe, if she moved this way...

Abruptly she realized the greenblood kid she'd been about to slip around was moving more quickly than she'd thought, but there was no time to course correct. She didn't fall, but stumbling meant she'd lost precious seconds. With a startled gasp, she looked for a way to regain that ground, and saw a flutter of white. Well. Anything that had a potential of working was worth trying.

"Sorry bout this!" Quick as she could, she reached down to grab the kid's lusus before neatly whirling to throw the beast at her pursuer's face. There was an undignified squawk and a furious beating of wings, but the chicken-like creature was ultimately unable to control its descent. Etsali didn't stay to watch. One quick, apologetic pat on the kid's head and then she was moving again. There had to be a door here somewhere!

Aha! There she was. Ganyma shoved his way out from the crowd, offering some hurried apologies as his elbows did effective work on the throngs of Sheena fans now dazedly looking towards the screens for guidance as to the whereabouts of their champion. Meanwhile, Ganyma had locked on. She was nearing the backstage door now. A pang of panic crossed Ganyma’s mind. It was an area off-limits to performers during shows – sabotage was all too common a strategy in the Alternian sport – and if he was caught… Well… He’d better have Sheena’s belt to show for it!

He steeled himself to make chase and… Got a face full of cluckbeast. “Aaah!!” Ganyma yelled. Talons scratched his face, creating little nicks of teal. His surprise, fortunately, spurred quick regeneration, but the immediate reforming of new skin caused Ganyma’s blood to flow in a bizarre display of feathery terror. White feathers flecked with teal exploded from the scene as Ganyma coughed up more from his misadventure. The result left Ganyma more flustered than hurt, but it certainly wasn’t a no harm no fowl situation.

“Damn this bird!” Ganyma wheezed. He tossed the chicken aside and waved his arms in front of his face, trying to clear the air and keep sight of Etsali. She was looking for a door, but fortunately Ganyma had the ley of the land. He hopped over a guard-rail and raced towards the only escape route, hoping to close the distance between them if not tire her out.

A chance to stop and catch her breath would have been a blessing. Etsali wasn't too tired to keep running by any means, but at this pace she didn't doubt that that point would come sooner rather than later. Still, there was something exhilarating about the chase, staying one step ahead of an enemy and keeping her hands on the prize. Even Keeper would be impressed with this one once she made it back home! But well, she had to make it home first. Where was the door?

The thief stole another quick glance back at her pursuer, and then frowned as she followed his path towards...Aha! Hoping to cut her off at her destination, was he? Not bad! She adjusted her course accordingly, but didn't waste the chance to mentally congratulate herself for moving in more or less the right direction in the first place. A quick hop over a guard rail, and little extra boost of speed to try and regain the ground she'd lost by not spotting the doorway first and...!

Her fingers closed around the doorknob and there was just a moment's confusion where she pulled and nothing happened. Oh no, oh no, was it locked? He was going to catch her if it was locked, she couldn't- She pushed and it gave way before her so suddenly that she stumbled. Laughing, she twisted to slam it shut behind her and then kept running. Okay, okay this was some kind of backstage area, right? Just more hallways and doorways and probably some more people to dodge so that would be tricky but...

But there just had to be an exit.

"I have you no-- dang it!" The thief disappeared behind the door and Ganyma cursed his rotten luck. Of course the backstage was unlocked - there was a fight going on! He grit his teeth and slammed through the door, darting after her down the hallway. Suddenly, he had a realization. Aha! He knew this set-up, and she didn't. He took off to the left hall, ready to cut her off when she... Wait...

As quickly as he had created the plan, it fell apart. Wrong turn, dummy! Ganyma whirled back and sprinted the opposite way. He'd lost some time, but there she was! He saw a bit of her scarf as she turned the corner, and in a moment of clarity Ganyma grabbed a folding chair leaning up against the hallway. Never come to a wrestling match unprepared!

As Etsali sprinted down yet another long hallway, something pressed to the wall ahead caught her eye. As fast as she was moving, there were only a couple of seconds to recognize it for it was, some kind of standing cooler on wheels, and then even less time to come to the decision. Her gut told her she might have just enough time and a quick glance behind as she slid to a stop beside the thing confirmed her pursuer had fallen behind enough that he hadn't turned down this way yet.

The metal was cold, even through her gloves, and that coupled with the weight of the cooler as she quickly wheeled it into the center of the hallway could only mean that it was filled. Perfect. She flipped the lid open, stuck a boot under the tray underneath for leverage and to keep the whole thing from simply rolling, and then she pushed. There was a crash as it toppled, ice and water and cans spilling down the hallway, and a flash of movement at the end of the hallway that meant the tealblood had caught up just in time.

Grinning, she jogged backwards a ways, just so she'd be able to see if he really did slip. "Careful there!" Laughing, she turned to begin running again in earnest.

“Yaaaahhh!” Needless to say, the crafty thief’s plan was an outrageous success. Ganyma’s eyes were on the prize, but with his bullish style of plowing ahead he wasn’t able to register the danger in front of (and below him). His boots, which were woefully lacking in traction), immediately caught the slippery sides of the near avalanche of ice that Etsali had released. The result was hilarious. Arms windmilling and knees buckling, Ganyma managed to slip and slide a few yards with impressive speed before crashing hard onto the wet hallway floor. His front was entirely soaked… Not to mention any dignity he had left was long gone. Wobbling to his feet, he managed to extract himself from the ice floes. This meant war! Well… It was war before, but now he was really mad, cold, wet and slightly disoriented.

Ganyma spotted his target at the end of the hall before she disappeared, gritting his teeth against her taunts. She was too quick for him to catch up to, so maybe there was something else he could do. He knew the format of the building at the very least, and up ahead was the exit – as well as a door leading to the nosebleed section of the stadium. He might have a shot if she had to detour into the stadium, so if he could just lead her to the right one…!!

“Don’t go straight!!!!” Ganyma yelled ahead at the top of his lungs. Straight ahead was the exit of course, so maybe she’d listen to him. Unbeknownst to Ganyma, the exit door was also an emergency exit – an alarm would be sure to sound if it was opened. This was very clearly marked for any troll to see.

Etsali was still snickering as she rounded the corner, but the immediate reward of the doorway straight ahead, exit sign shining brightly above, brought the focus back purely on escape. She was in the home stretch now, just a little further...! She put on another burst of speed that would no doubt cost her later if the chase went on much longer, but with a getaway so close at hand, she couldn't quite resist the urge. An arm outstretched, ready to shove the doorway open and then-

The details hit her all at once. The splash of 'EMERGENCY' painted across the door, the alarm waiting to sound off, the shout of the tealblood behind her, and one other, plain door to the side, the only other option. Another split second decision to be made. Would it be easier or harder to slip away once that alarm went off? Her fingers brushed the metal of the handle and then, hit with a sudden doubt, she twisted, throwing herself off course and into the side door instead.

She stumbled to a stop just through it, narrowly avoiding a tumble down stairs as she tried to make sense of the jarring change of scenery. For just a second, her head spun with the difference of hallway to open air, from small empty space to wide and near overwhelming. She gasped in a breath, and then another, and then forced herself to pick a path and take it, quickly.

"Ah, sorry, excuse me!" She hopped up onto the nearest empty seat, flashing apologetic grins to trolls who had already taken their places as she began a descent down the rows from seat to seat, arms stretched out to help her wobbling balance. "Coming through!"

1 damage!

Ganyma raced out into the open, the lights of the arena immediately making his vision swim. He couldn't lose sight of her now! Unfortunately, she seemed much more lithe among the audience. With his girth he was an obstacle by himself. "Dang!" Ganyma muttered. He shot forward anyway, apologizing as he went.

"Pardon me! Excuse me! I'm -- I'm chasing a..." An idea. A brilliant, very obvious idea popped into his head. "Thief! Stop, thief! That's Jaawhn Sheena's belt she has!!" He shouted, gushing with very genuine drama.

Due to the event going on below, the result was not immediate - but soon trolls started to take notice. Less trolls were kind enough to let Etsali through. Soon, a slight confused panic set in!

"Jaawhn Sheena is here?"
"Thief?"
"Did someone say Jaawhn --"
"She's got a belt!! HEY!!"
"Oh my gog, this match keeps getting more awesome!"
"Take a picture of this! Hey!"
