[PRP] Patrol (Batu x Nubiti)

Batu was on patrol. He was moving back and forth on board of the pride. He would like to be able to say that he was watching the borders but in truth he was really just pacing back and forth while his mind was running at top speed. Batu so far felt like a failure. He had come to the pride a month or two ago with the intention of helping an internal rebellion. But he had been here for awhile now and the only thing he had done was speak to one of the seers in the pride who sought him out, she had spoken to Meshach and knew what Batu was there to do.

Letting out a sigh Batu turned and headed back the way he had come. He was glad that he wasn't talking to Meshach regularly because at the moment the black and white lion was beside himself with how little he had done. It wasn't an easy job knowing who to speak to and who not to. He lifted his eyes to scan the horizon, the night had been very quiet. Batu wasn't sure if he was thankful for it or not had there been a little more going on he might not have had so much time to think.

Nubiti carefully groomed her fluffy fur. It was a nearly constant job to ensure it didn't tangle. She was just about done and ready to go on her border patrol. With a final lick to her chest she stood up. A pacing black and white lion caught her attention. She watched him for several minutes before padding up quietly.

"You look like you have ants crawling up your bum." Maybe not the nicest first comment. She had managed to survive the change of ruler, but she didn't approve of it. Nubiti had wisely kept her head down when the fighting had started and it was clear Meshach was out matched. She couldn't believe how docile the pride had been about the whole ordeal. Unfortunately it wasn't her place to tell them so. Instead she'd been biding her time; waiting until the pride realized what needed to be done.

For now she had a job to do. She waved her tail at the male. "I'm going on a patrol. Why don't you do something constructive and join me?"

Batu stopped pacing as soon as the female started talking to him. He blushed a little, he didn't like being caught during his moment of distress. He turned looking at the female another guard, one he had seen before but didn't actually know by name. He faltered trying to think of a response to her ants comment. He was happy though when she quickly moved on telling him to come along with her on patrol.

"Okay." Batu said simply, still gathering his thoughts. He was pleased to have a distraction from his current train of thoughts. He hated being a disappointment to Meshach, not that Meshach knew just how disappointing he really was being right now.

Having fallen in line with the female Batu tried to turn on his charm, he use to be good at talking to others, perhaps if he just focused on getting to know her and not trying to figure out if she could be a recruit or not.

"My name is Batu." he said introducing himself, it was possible she already knew his name. He was fairly new to the pride and was still trying to figure out the names of those around him.

She wasn't sure if the male would actually follow her. In fact she wasn't sure he was even a guard. Although she'd seen him around recently she'd never been on patrol with him before. Nubiti was duly surprised when the male trotted along obediently. The good news was that she'd have company or backup along this trip.

She flicked her ear as he introduced himself. "Hello Batu. So what rank are you?" Nubiti set a brisk pace as they cleared the common pride areas. "I'm Nubiti," she finally introduced herself.

Batu kept up with the pace that the female set quite easily. He wasn't the largest lion around but he was still pretty big. He was a little surprised when she asked for his rank, he had assumed that she knew he was a guard and that was why she had asked him to join along.

"I am a guard like you." he told her with a nod. When he had joined the pride he had had the option of either hunter or guard and he had beleived that he would be of far more use to the cause as a guard, perhaps when the time came he would even be able to help sneak Meshach in.

"Its nice to meet you Nubiti." he told her his voice warm and friendly. "Have you always been a guard?" he asked her. He had heard that some of Shangyue's most loyal followers had become guards and royal guards. The new Kings way of protecting his interested. He wondered if this female might have been one of them. He studied her as they walked, he didn't want her to be on the other side of things, frankly she was kind of beautiful.

Ah he was a guard too. That explained why he came along so readily. It didn't matter what he'd been, it had only looked like he'd need to get out and move to clear his head. That he was a guard meant that she wouldn't have to take care of him on this trip. "Like wise Batu. Sorry we haven't had a chance to introduce ourselves before this. Things have been.... kinda crazy."

She glanced at him from under bangs. How much did he know? More importantly, who's side was he on? "I have," Nubiti replied to his question. "Are you happy being a guard?" She kept alert for trouble as they walked but kept one eye on him too. His rather simple pattern of black and white was rather nice.
