A little light drizzle might have been enough to chase away some of the hunters on the island, but not the hardcore Suns. Certainly not a certain combat trainer who happened to be patrolling around the edge of the field. She'd made it habit, when not training herself, to make at least one circle of the field, looking for anyone that might need a hand. It was usually hit or miss, whether or not she stuck around, but today seemed promising.
Hood up, Peyton lingered on the edge of the field like some sort of dainty gargoyle. Perched on the bench of a picnic table, elbows on her knees, she had her chin resting on laced fingers as she watched the other girl assault the dummie's poor kidneys.
It wasn't someone she knew, but considering how large the influx of newbies was lately that really wasn't surprising.
After a long moment, and a few more stabs, the small Sun hopped off the bench and started walking over, calling out to the other girl. "Hey, you look like you could use a live opponent."

Peyton was one of those people, because she'd seen hell, lived through it, survived it. She knew what it was like to have nothing, to be at rock bottom, and she knew how to appreciate what she had. It was a lesson she'd learned even before Deus. It was a lesson everyone on the island learned eventually, given time. A few missions, a few nightmarish encounters, and the little things in life took on a whole new level of importance.
Whatever this trainee's opinion of her might be, the Sun smiled as she drew closer, arms unfolded so hands could swing at her sides. A flick of pale eyes took in the dagger. Briefly she considered entering this match unarmed. If gave her opponent a bit of an edge, evened things out a bit, but it was hard to say no to a chance to cross dagger with dagger.
"So." Warrick flashed into life with a flare of red, and small fingers curled tightly around the ringed hilts. "You have a name?"

The compliment had the girl rolling her eyes. She wouldn't have even gotten one point off that one, no matter what the strength. Frustration mounting, she stabbed at Peyton's side, and the other girl didn't have to block it, because she'd already moved out of the way, the blade meeting nothing but air.
"This must be," she said, moving back, "so useful to everyone involved. Very karate kid, no wonder I'm cleaning so much." Her tone was caustic and brittle. Creedence knew the value of practice, even sparring like this, but sarcasm was forever the safest retreat from the mounting frustration and honest upset.

God, this was all so very familiar. It was almost funny in it's irony, but laughing would have just made it worst, and as amused as Peyton may have been, she wasn't purposefully trying to piss the other girl off.
Fury could be a powerful weapon. It could be the difference between a mediocre hit and a staggering one, if you knew how to wield it. Creedence didn't know yet, didn't have the training, and it showed. And that was fine, Pey didn't expect people to know what the hell they were doing right out the gate, but she expected them to learn. She expected them to be willing to listen, to absorb lessons, to pick up skills.
"Do you want to stay at this level, or do you want to get better?' It was her turn for impatience, voice leaking out through her teeth as she desummoned and went on the offensive.
She planted her foot, hips turning as she brought her other leg up in a fast kick that sent the tip of her boot whizzing past the taller girl's nose.
"You don't just suddenly know what you're doing, that shits earned. You learn through trial and error. You learn by checking your pride at the door and making mistakes." Fists up, she half turned, beckoning her forward again with a crook of her fingers. "Don't just blindly rush at me. Use your head."

"I hate to break it to you," she started, sucking a breath through her teeth as the dagger bit into her shield. "But this is not a movie." The sullen teen routine was getting tiresome. "If you can't fight, you will get yourself or someone else killed." It was harsh, it was blunt, but it was true. If Peyton had any inkling the girl was only attempting to train when she was sure there were no eyes watching she'd have been lecturing worse than she already was.
She pulled an arm back, aimed a punch for the the taller girl, but she wasn't serious, not yet. Her knuckles whistled past her shoulder.
"I dunno, is there anything at your center worth finding?" Head tilted, she leveled a cool gaze on the her. It was a dig, yes, but it wasn't out of malice.
