There was only so long Gretchen was allowed to put off training until Devika became positively impossible to live with. The Naga had been a constant, irate stream of berating, verbal abuse for about a day and a half now, and Gretch had finally given in and made her way down to the training field.
She had hoped, maybe, she could get the upper hand in this relationship if she managed to out last her partner, but that seemed even more impossible now than it had when she'd first started trying to ignore her. She was, above all else, a force to be reckoned with. Loud, demanding, irritable, there really was only so much the Death could take before her own will slowly crumbled into nothing.
So here she was, appropriately brought to heel by a domineering partner, running through offensive drills with her staff against one of the many training dummies set up along the edge of the field.
It would have been better, or at least less boring, if she'd had a real opponent to face off against. She'd tried arguing this fact with Devika, pointing out that she was only going to learn so much from whacking on a dummy, but the Naga wasn't hearing any of it.
(If you ssspent lessss time with that man, you would not be ssssso behind on your practicssse.)
To this she could only sigh.

The girl's grin grew. "That's what our shields are for," she assured him. "And the wards." Her shoulders came up in a small shrug, but she brought Devika around again, reclaiming that two-handed grip as she sank into a more ready stance.
"I'd think'ya not to aim for my face though, s'one of my better assets." It didn't really matter. He could aim for her face all day and probably wouldn't be able to do much more than give her superficial injuries, but she would really rather avoid that, given the choice.
"We begin when you're ready, friend." Oh, that reminded her. "By the way, my names Gretchen."

"Alright now, you can try to hit me with your best ssshhhh---," he started, only to be leg-swiped and fall to the ground a** first. "----iiiitt!"
In a jerk reaction, he fired his shotgun as he fell, aimed the best he could towards the girl - but without the preparation aiming normally required.
<< HAHAHAHA! >> Siv was radiating with joy, and Wyatt could sense it. Her joy, in fact, was pissing the living s**t out of him, and only fueled him some more. << I would apologize, but no. Your foolish cockiness deserves to be taken down a peg. >>

It was a very odd thing, having a shot gun aimed in your direction and fired. Gretchen gave a little surprised shriek, just natural reaction, as the blast took her in the chest, bu beyond the initial impact there wasn't the expected pain.
(Sssshield, ssstupid girl.)
Oh, right. She knew that.
Their shields were why she was willing to swinging the heavier end of her staff into Wyatt's side before he was even back on his feet. It was underhanded, she knew that, and she even felt a little guilty about it, but she still did it. Because in a real fight, her life would be on the line. She knew that now. It had been painfully obvious a number of times over her short stay on the island.
Gretchen didn't like violence, but she also didn't want to die.
"On your feet, cowboy."

"Show me then, Cowboy." She was teasing him, but it was all light, all good natured. Gretchen wasn't the violent type, and she certainly wasn't the sort to p***k and poke at another person's pride for the sake of her own. These spars were essential, but that didn't mean they couldn't be fun, and it didn't mean they had to be unpleasant as well as violent.
He did show her though. The next blast took her in the chest, making her stagger back a few steps as she winced. "Yeah, that's definitely better," she groaned out, laughing as she straightened up again and adjusted her grip on her staff.
Devika was glowering in her head, and Gretch could hear the faint hiss of irritation. it had her moving forward with a quick step of her good leg, staff coming around in a wide, fast arch at the tall man's shoulder.
