Dusk.

It was a beautiful time of day, where the once crisp blues of the day skies slowly slipped into a warmth of reds...accented by oranges, magenta's and the gold yellow when displayed against clouds. Tonight was no different, serenity filled the woods he walked through; he could smell the scent of blood nearby; knowing full well this was around the time the monsters came out to play in the protection of the night. Archer chuckled darkly, vivid blue eyes piercing his surroundings; he supposed he had little to worry about.

After all, it wouldn't be the first time his family had been seen as those monsters of the night.

Flicking his spiked tail behind him as he strolled pleasantly, the male was fortunate to not have a vice like his dear aunt...bless her soul. He didn't have to kill and end lives for necessity to her own, his aunt's survival depending on the consumption of blood and flesh as if she didn't she'd bleed out from her endlessly bleeding tail. He killed for desire...for need too in a twisted way. Oh spirits have mercy to anyone who wronged his family. Like that devil mare...Raven. The name felt like acid on his tongue, he would see to it with everything in his power to end her; and bring forth a revolution for his lineage. No longer would his aunt feel at ill ease of her nemesis out there plotting revenge. He'd avenge the deaths of her family, patch up the hearts of his grandmother and mother at the absence of those kin he never got to even meet. It was a lot to take on as a young stallion...but Archer could think of no other life he'd wish to live.

He was a stallion with a plan, one he was beginning to put into motion.

Ah - the day had been filled with lovely mares, he'd spent most of the afternoon sitting in the shade of a tree watching a well trotted pathway. He'd admired many things about the different mares. Beautifully shaded voluminous hair swaying in the breezes, wings, horns...you name it. It had been an enjoyable pass time, pondering the strengths of many different breeds; trying to calculate their weakness. (And you know, tails surely didn't hurt to be looking at) Yet time was enough. He'd make the slow trip back home even if he really didn't need to be there. His dear grandmother was pregnant, it was very early and already the crazy but loveable mare was so overjoyed. It warmed his heart really, and had been the first to take 'watch' per say; even though the purpose was to keep her company so she didn't go crazy. Yet his mother was there today; and he was due back tomorrow morning...so the rush really wasn't there.

"Perhaps a snack..." Archer hummed to himself, passing by a small stream that he paused for but a few minutes to take long drawn gulps from. His own hair pooling down around his face to cover his mask and horns nearly from view. Surely he'd have plenty of time to find something around here.

The day had been warm, but not unpleasantly so. Still, the mare was thankful for the cooler air the waning day brought with it. She'd been travelling a while now. Her whole life, really. From the day she left the security of her basket she had been on the move. First with her mother, who looked upon her only with scorn. She eventually abandoned Roni and she had to keep moving to survive, staying just ahead of any predators that might otherwise discover her. She conjured up an image of her mother in her mind - the dark, imposing kalona purist whose eyes bored into her soul it seemed. It had been years since she'd thought about her mother. She didn't know why she did now. Maybe it was just the time of day that encouraged reflection. She shook her head to clear it and continued down the well-worn path.

She kept well behind any of the other travelers on the path, though few remained out at this time of day. She'd lost sight of the last soquili she'd spotted a while ago and let her mind just drift as she made her way casually along the path. Her violet eyes turned upwards and watched the golden and crimson clouds make their lazy way across the sky. Sometimes she felt rather like those clouds, wandering aimlessly at the mercy of whatever breeze takes hold. She sometimes felt so insubstantial that she might dissipate on the wind one day as well.

She turned her gaze back down to watch her footing in the failing light. As she did she noticed some movement off to the side and slowed her pace a bit. She wasn't sure what she was seeing through the bushes, it was just flashes of white and movement. She could hear the gurgling of a stream that she couldn't quite see, but there was moisture in the air to signify its proximity.

She moved closer with curiosity, picking her way carefully down towards the stream so as not to be heard. She folded her wings close to her side and moved slowly, a skilled huntress stalking her prey. She of course had no intention of harming whatever lay beyond unless they proved hostile themselves. She did intend to figure that out before engaging if at all possible.

She broke through the cover of the lush greens and finally got a good look at what she had been tracking - a stallion. His face was hidden, but she bore the tell-tale tail of a kalona, albeit a spiked one. She cocked her head curiously at him, watching him root around for something. She made the decision to engage, despite not knowing if he was potentially dangerous. He didn't have wings, so if it came to it she could flee by air.

"What are you looking for?"

It was at the last seconds his ears perked, was that the sounds of bushes rustling? He didn't have time to think about it as a definitive voice rang up through the small clearing, and he lifted his head in a hurried but still rather graceful manner; turning to gaze upon whom had decided to engage him.

Oh, hello.

Taking her all in before him as his dark eyes peered out from behind the mask, he couldn't help the slight grin on his face from forming. She was a kalona, easily detected by her horns, wings and tail...but it was not all. The third horn threw him a little as he was quick to ponder if she held any relation to that spawn of the devil. Yet...she was quick to attack, usually didn't bother with any kind of deceit. So it was highly unlikely she had anything to do with that uni kalona. Thank goodness, even though he would welcome an encounter with her to try and end her; there had been talk of her pregnancy; so there could be others with her. Numbers was something he was considerably weak against in comparison to his one on one skills.

Turning around fully he swayed his tail behind him and dipped his head regally, not enough to remove his mask though. "Hello there, Miss." He replied, flashing steely blue eyes back at her. "Simply taking a drink, but I was about to search for a snack though. Perhaps some sweet treats...." He just didn't think one would actually find him...

"Just passing through you see, on my back to my family's homelands." He felt it needed to be say, in case there was the off chance he'd wandered into someone else's lands. Although he'd spent most of the day here he could have missed a patrol of something, despite his appearance though he had a charming air around him and could talk himself out of a lot of sticky situations. "I could ask the same about you...too." He turned the tables to get the focus off of him for the time being. "This usually isn't the place for pretty mares to be all alone...can't you smell the blood in the air?" Sure, she was probably capable of fending for herself, but oh, Archer would hate to see such a pretty purple pelt like that marred by some savage beast. While he had yet to come across a body or any blood yet; he knew it was out there.

Which meant something which caused it was out here, too.

She was momentarily distracted by his eyes, so similar to her own yet different somehow. There was something piercing there, something intelligent and cavalier. She traced the edges of his mask with her eyes then rested on the horns on his head. How fascinating. She cocked a head at him as he bowed to her regally, his hair tumbling around his head and neck gracefully. She wasn't sure why he was behaving the way he was; she was used to being treated with suspicion and mistrust, not respect and concern. She certainly had never been called pretty and the word gave her pause. She'd never considered herself in such light and she wasn't sure what to think of that. She decided instead to address her presence in the area.

"I was just passing through as well." She had no family homelands to go to, and in fact if she ever came across her mother she would either run away - or murder her. She still wasn't sure which. "I'm not afraid of whatever might be out there," she added. This wasn't entirely true, but she did have confidence in her abilities. Still, with dark falling it might make sense to stick around the male for a bit. She wouldn't admit that the flutter she felt in her stomach had anything to do with the idea.

"My name is Roni."

"Seems quite the time for traveling hmm?" He mused, mostly to himself. It seemed everyone was on some kind of adventure - himself included. Even if the means to his traveling was far less jovial and carefree. He noted her own three horns, so starkly different than his own but held the same meaning behind them. Unpure. If it wouldn't make him look like a creep he'd have scoffed at his own mental train of thought, but it would so he didn't. How many times had he'd heard in the stories told by his aunt and mother about their family being scorned on all fronts thanks to their unique traits. Not Kalona, not angeni, not normal. They were mutants, and it was something they could not change. Archer wouldn't change. He embraced and ran with the skin he was born in, and like hell he'd want to be some boring normal stallion.

It made sense after winter's thaw that the time for movement would be now, to enjoy the freedoms of spring, summer and fall before the onset of snow and chill grasped the land one more. It was the perfect time to begin to construct his master plan.

"Roni hmm?" He spoke with low tones, taking a few steps towards her now that he was more comfortable with the fact she was no descendant of Raven. "Is that short for something?" Even if it wasn't, it held a charm to it. "My name is Archae'il...but please, call me Archer." Besides, his family called him Archae'il, and he felt it was a right meant for them alone. He did prefer his nickname, but would never venture as far to try and get his family to call him anything but what they so kindly named him. A mere step away from Roni, he tilted his head slightly so his hair fell from his eyes to get a closer look.

Freckles, how cute.

"I imagine you wouldn't be. Not many would like to approach mutants just on whimsy." He added, subconsiously flicking his spiked kalona tail. "Perhaps you'd be so kind to accompany me as we seem to be heading in the same direction; even if till the morning?" While he did not doubt her abilities, as such Kalona genes blessed one with strength, he also had his own concerns of what may be lurking nearby.

Afterall, he just wouldn't allow himself to fail his plans before it even began; and safety in numbers were a proven tactic.
