"Yeah. They'll get eaten real fast." No one needed to know he planned to eat cake for dinner, breakfast and lunch till they were gone. His business. He rubbed his neck, managing eye contact long enough to give Chance a nod.

"I gotta go." He repeated again, setting off back towards Deus. He was getting too comfortable. He'd end up back where he started at this rate.

He gave a little wiggle of his fingers in goodbye and watched as Otto made his way back, Chance's eyes following him until he had disappeared. Then he leaned until he was back on the ground, eyes staring skyward until they fluttered shut, and he laid an arm across his face, over his eyes.

A small, helpless laugh escaped him.
