Lunear had been trying his hardest to master hiding his glow- both by will and by clothing. Makeup and dyes were great but they only dulled the effect of his body's natural light, and wore off after a time. In general, he was always a sitting quack beast if he didn't at least try to remain hidden. Never in his life had he ever considered making his waking hours devoted to memorizing cave and tunnel maps. He'd considered them for low bloods, criminals, thugs and freaks.

Yet now they would be his refuge, his places to seek come fights he couldn't avoid.

Tonight was one such night. A drone had seen his glow not but a few hours past and he'd been moving since, using what few tunnels and caves he knew to avoid a fight he'd not likely win. The edge of the forest, he kept looking over his shoulder, wondering if he was still being chased or followed, whip at the ready.

The forests of Alternia held many secrets but most of all they had solitude, which had become a friend of Keionx's. As her life had grown increasingly complicated, she had found it... enlightening... to be alone in the wilderness, adventuring and doing whatever great deeds she could find.

Great deeds, however, were in small demand and Keionx did not like being alone. But what else was she to do when her friends, her life, her lusus, and her very self confused her? There was no one she could go to for advice that wasn't directly related to one issue or another, and so she sought it out here in the wild, where there was only her and her crumbling delusions. She would have to go back someday, she knew, but at the very least she didn't want to do that until she knew, first off, what the heck she was. What she wanted to be. What she could be.

She rested on a tree stump, cleaning her blade and lost in thought. She would also need to find shelter for the day. It was good to find these things, she had learned, long before it was urgently needed. She was at the very edge of the woods, overlooking a series of crags and hills that would certainly afford her some shelter. But it was not them she contemplated as she tended to her weapon...

At least, not until she saw an odd glow that began to grow in front of her. She squinted at it, trying to identify it. What manner of beast or spirit was it, that could glow so? It was not the sun – that was not due for hours yet, and this was the ground, not the sky. So what was it?

She had just stood up to get a closer look at the anomaly when she saw, cresting the rock face that separated the forested area from the sheltered area, a pair of winglike horns.

The rocky edge of the paths provided two advantages. One was that they could help trap and corner your enemy, the other that they when properly navigated helped hide you. The growth of the forest's edge and the rocky paths helped hide but not the best, and he twitched as a few twittering beasts quieted. Something was nearby, or rather, someone.

His whip pulled free of his belt he spun to face whoever and whatever was nearby. Lusus or troll it'd not matter- he wasn't supposed to be seen or caught, and with drones having been after him, he was not taking any chances.

Keionx yelped and dodged as the whip came for her, barely managing to evade its air-popping crack. She scrambled for her shield – wooden and lying near her stump – and hurriedly put it on.

Thus protected, she accepted the strange teenage troll's challenge, such as it was. She attacked, and only then did she see that the odd light was coming from him.

What the... she thought again, her eyes widening in realization, Rainbow Drinker

Keionx felt the bottom drop out of her stomach. She was facing a supernatural beast that had erupted from the hills and attacked her. She had come for an adventure to find herself, but this was not what she had expected to find in the woods.

A nightmare

Slightly panicked, she struck at the monster, and only then did she realize that there was something vaguely familiar about them...
