Jolteon was going to die.
Every time a fowl breeze brushed along her thin fur it felt as if claws were digging into her hide. Even huddled up in a makeshift den as she was, Jolteon couldn't help but to curse. This was hell. Why she had agreed to take Velsi here was beyond her. Go with her, she begged. It's just a little nippy, she said.
Velsi had better be snugged up really nice with those frosties; getting toasty, chatting it up, making a name for herself...Something that would have made this entire escort mission worth while. Jolteon was a traveler at heart, and had been to several different regions in her life time. Deserts, swamps, the ocean; all had been better on their worst days than this frozen hell.
Jolteon coughed, and shivered. As soon as this wind died down she was going to make a break for it. She didn't care if she had to run all night, she was getting out of here. For a moment it seemed to break, but when she stuck her head out a large gust slammed into her face with enough force to cause her to shriek. Although it was a surprised sound, there was enough frustration built into it to scatter what birds had decided to settle in the area.

Rizardon heard something strange and frowned at the sounds, sitting for a long moment to try and figure out what he was hearing. Was that someone coughing? It did not sound very good, so he thought he would go and check it out.
Just in case someone was in trouble.
He nearly leaped out of his red fur when he heard the scream, looking around in wonder as all the birds nearby flittered from the trees. They had not been expecting that kind of a noise, either. Feeling tense, like someone was getting attacked or something, Rizardon charged forward through the snow.
Spotting the small (and poorly made, if he could say so) den, he moved to see if there was someone in it with less grace than he really could have used. He stuck his head right in, bumping noses with the female inside.
"Oh. Hello. Are you okay? Were you the one making that noise?"

She looked very cold. He frowned at her, tilting his head and looking her over. The smaller cat was clearly not built for the cold of the snow, like he was. He had bulk and he had thick fur. Not to mention the belief that his blood burned hotter than others, and that helped him stay warm.
Cold did not bother him.
"It is pretty cold out here. Oh, I know." The large lion wiggled his way into the den, not seeming to mind personal space. Since he was meaning her no harm, he did not see anything wrong with what he was doing. So he coiled in and settled down next to her, letting his fur and body provide her some much needed protection from the cold.
"That any better? I can just stay here for a bit if you want to warm up. I don't mind. I'm basically a walking snow shield anyway. The fire on my fur isn't just there for show, I can actually be almost as useful as a fire!" He laughed, though obviously a fire would be better.

When warm, Jolteon would have been running until exhaustion claimed her. She was a fast little bundle of warmth when moving, but being forced into submission by cold weather brought everything to a screeching halt. It made her realize just how thin her fur actually was.
Raising her brow, Jolt made a noise akin to a squawk and moved out of his way lest he crush her. She wasn't used to lions snuggling up beside of her; this was a first. Unease made her jumpy underneath shivering fur, but she wasn't going to deny herself the warmth he provided. Jolteon exhaled on a pleasant moan and rolled her eyes back. "You are amazing," she murmured, basking in the protection. The cheetah could no longer feel the chill in the wind, and couldn't help smiling.
When she opened her eyes again Jolteon looked to him. Her shivers were starting to dissipate, leaving his muscles tired but content. "I thought I was going to die I was so cold." At least she didn't have to wonder now how he was able to survive in this! He would probably burn up if he went too far south. "Almost as useful? Hell, to me, your twice as useful! Fires are warm and all, but you're much better company."

Rizardon smiled at her as he watched her get comfortable, chuckling. He did not think there was anything amazing in just letting her cuddle with him, and he imagined anyone would do the same if they saw someone in similar trouble, right? At least, he hoped that would be the case.
The world could sometimes be a bit more complicated than he liked to imagine it.
"It can be dangerous here, when it gets that cold. Especially if you're not used to it. But I'm glad I can provide both warmth and company! Most of the time, I don't think most others find me great company."
He could be a bit too dense for most conversation, and he had met plenty of lions who did not want to waste their time with him. It took a lot of effort to explain all the things he did not understand. But he much preferred the simple things in life to anything else, anyway. This, for example, was simple. They could just sit next to each other and stay warm, and talk if they wanted.
"I don't imagine you're planning on staying in the snow for good, eh?"

Jolteon curled her lip on a throaty snort. "Anyone who doesn't find you good company probably isn't very nice to be around themselves. That's how some get by with their jealousies; picking on others, that is." The little quick start thought herself to be a perfect judge of character, and this lion was a keeper in her book. If no one else could see him for a good, kind soul then he was better off without them!
Her past mates had been a little...well, a little off. The first believed he could see a different world coinciding with their own and would often space out for hours at a time. The second had the mentality of a child who had been given too much sweet fruit. It wasn't a wonder at all that she preferred little snippets of male company after that, but this lion didn't seem like he would be bad to be around. So what if he was dense? At least he didn't believe he lived in the spirit realm or some other suck nonsense.
She laughed and shook her head. "Oh Gods, no! My only goal was to see my friend settled into her new pride, and now that that's done I'm planning on going south for the rest of my days. Maybe I'll find a nice beach to settle down on? Who knows, really." Looking to him now, Jolteon thought on a question and decided to proceed with it, "Have you ever been to the south?"

Rizardon laughed at that, nodding his head. She was right! He was a great guy, after all, and he did his best to be mellow and nice to others! Why wouldn't they want to hang out with him? He might have been a little on the slow side and had to have some thing explained to him carefully, but hey.
He was useful to have around, to compensate. At least he could do all the heavy lifting and digging, and any brute work that was needed! And he did so gladly, because he found it fun.
Everyone had their parts to play, and he was comfortable in the role he had found for himself.
"A beach? I've seen a couple of those, though I mostly just stay in the snow or in the yellow savannah when I'm out in the rogue lands. I haven't been too far south, though. I only go out for a little while, most of my trips, just so I can get something new or interesting. Is it nice in the south? Is that where you want to settle? Lots of beaches?"
