Predestined Victim

"There's a lot of things I want, Pey." Maybe Rep had been right, maybe Horace was nothing more than a walking, breathing embodiment of death wish. He could feel it slithering around inside of him, maybe, mostly ignored. But sometimes, he thought it would be worth it to die if he felt alive just before. Not even the thought of Jan waiting for him could make him feel guilty over it. Despite everything his friends, Jan, the people who hated him, the island was still somehow washed out - it only sprang into brilliant color in those brief flashes of pain, brief reminders that he wasn't asleep, wasn't dreaming or dead.

He doubled forward before he knew exactly what was happening, his body curving in just the way she'd expected. Horace's teeth clicked, and nausea rose in the back of his throat. Peyton was a dangerous tornado of color and pain and she drew people in. Magnetic. He could easily imagine people orbiting her, round and round and round, focused on the whirling dervish of her intensity. His hand caught against a dummy and slowly, he remembered to breathe. Glittering eyes met hers and his grin still stretched widely over his face. "You could teach me, but you'd have to charge?" Horace was a gentleman and did not make a joke about her lack of size in the bosom department.

Instead, he pushed off of the dummy, the extra momentum meaning he almost swung around Pey. Horace's hand caught her arm in a punishing grip - he knew by now he didn't have to be anything resembling gentle to her. Peyton could take and take and take and not break. And was the beauty in their spars. His fist swung into the small of her back, tekkos stabbing towards the sensitive flesh there. She likely wouldn't bleed - she was too strong, but Jannisari whispered in his mind for her blood to decorate her shining runes. She pulsed with the want of it. Letting go of her arm, his other fist punched into her hipbone. If he would fade fast in this spar, he'd go out with a bang and maybe try to give her a few interesting bruises.

The tone was familiar, that reckless pursuit. She could relate to the crazing, Peyton felt it herself, that addictive rush, the adrenaline, the need to feel alive. It was a dangerous game to play, bt it could be so rewarding. She wouldn't say no. It was a terrible idea with the differences in their strength, but she couldn't say no.

Brows rose at his comment, and the flicker of a smile graced full lips before she was shaking her head. "I don't have any milkshake." Curvy would never be a word to describe the girl, but she'd finally come to grips with that. What she lacked in feminine contours she hoped she made up for in attitude. Hoped. Though lately even that was lacking.

Horace was tenacious. He was up and moving, swing at her, and as she moved to doge his long fingers curled in a bruising grip around her arm, yanking her around. It made her stumble, but it was the bite of sharp spikes into the small of her back that made her cry out, damn near dropping to her knees as the shock of it lanced through her tiny body. It hurt, but her shield absorbed the worst of it, leaving a dull ache and the likely hood of a bruise come morning.

She hissed, jerking at the grip on her arm, and brought the other hand up to slash at his hand.

He pulled his hand back with a grunt - she was a fierce little thing, all bite and swagger. Warily, Horace moved back, watching her as though she were a snake. And well she might have been; when she struck, it was typically quick, fluid, and brutal.

"Milkshake, eh? Good thing too, 'cause I'm taken." He winked nevertheless. Horace reached out, trying to snag her hair or her top, but she slid lithely away. Ah, he thought, she'd learned to expect that, maybe.

"Are you implying that my lack of milkshake could bring you to the yard if you were single?" Brows arched, and features fell to skepticism. It was a joke, but she couldn't deny the curiosity. Right about then, knowing someone found her desirable would have been a nice ego stroke.

She danced just out of reach as he made a grab for her, too quick, and by now she didn't rule out that sort of under handed tactic from the trainee. It was likely he'd piss someone off doing something like that, but not Peyton. It just their spars all the more interesting. More real some how.

Bouncing on her toes, she snapped back in to invade the hell out of his personal space, firing a duo of sharp jabs at his mid section with the blunted rings of her daggers.

The breath whooshed out of him as Warrick connects with his side. Ah, that would bruise. "Milkshake or not - I'm surprised your yard's not full of boys, halfpint." Horace's eyes were too full of Jan to entertain anyone else, but he still gave her an appreciative glance that bordering on leering, just for her. Alright, it was an exaggerated leer, just for her. He did hope she'd find a nice guy after she healed from Noah. Horace liked his friends happily tucked away with loved ones.

Jannisari's runes pulsed with each ragged breath he took. A spark formed from them, flying high then crashing down on him. It burned through his muscles like lightning, illuminating Horace in a painful halo. It felt as though the Doctor were burning through his shield to rebuild it anew. It hurt, and it felt good. The light faded and he exhaled slowly, waiting for Peyton's next move.

She snorted, and there wasn't much amusement in it. People kept telling her that Noah was a fool, that she was pretty, that someone would be lucky to have her attention, but this s**t kept happening. It was hard not to letting it weigh on her self esteem. "If you say so."

The spark made her stop, and she gave him a long look as it engulfed him, sizzling along his body to repair his shield. "I hate that." It was a great charge to have on your side, but against? Not so much. It grew with the bond, that particular skill was going to be a real pain in the a** later in spars.

"But, since we're using charges." Two could play at this game. Warrick gave an excited rumble through her mind as she reached for all the Fear he'd gathered for her, and he gave it up eagerly. Red runes flared, growing brighter as the daggers came up, and that sweet little grin returned as she darted forward in a blur of blonde and pink. He'd felt it before, the whirl of heavy blows and sharp cuts. It should be familiar to him at this point.

Over and over she struck, darting around him, and she'd finish with a powerful upward slash across his torso as the Fear faded.

He pointed rather dramatically at her, skin flushing from the residue of his charge. "Well, I did say so, halfpint, and I have good taste, ok." Then she was upon him and he welcomed it in a way. There was, of course, no way to evade, but their was the kind of brutal beauty he looked for in spars. An unrelenting rush of pain, blindingly bright and breath-stealing.

"Ah, you're so harsh, darlin'," he murmured, a little breathless, a lot dizzy. He stumbled forward, hands catching round her shoulders, grin still planted on his face (though it wavered just a tad as he almost fell). The spikes of his tekkos dug into her arms just a bit, but not enough to do any real damage. When Horace spoke, his voice was (as always) surprisingly taunting for a guy with barely a shred of shield left.

"So, what's next?"

Her brows went up at the comment, and she bit her tongue on a response. Horace's current tastes were a little debatable, but she was sure as ******** not going to get into that particular discussion.

Besides, there were better things to worry over. The trainee stumbled as she hopped away from him, dropping heavy hands onto her shoulders as a grin stretched along his lips. Always a fun reaction to having his a** handed to him, eager and grateful. It made the spar worth while, if the challenge was a little lacking.

Hhe never seemed able to quit, either. dizzy, off balance, he was still taunting her, baiting, and she grinned at him. "Now you lay the ******** down," and she pushed at his chest, shoving him hard to throw him off balance and knock his tenacious a** to the ground.

As she pushed him, his hands shot out, grabbing, pulling at any bit of Peyton he could reach. Horace even tried to hook his foot around her ankle. She was tiny and although he was weak and dizzy, it was worth a try to take her down too. The end result, however, was the same regardless.

His shield broke. Horace sucked in a breath, eyes closing as pain washed over him. All of his muscles tensed. This was a pain he chose, that he wanted, and his fingers dug into the ground beneath him. After a moment, his eyes fluttered back open, blue meeting violet. That grin spread back across his face and he chuckled breathlessly.

"Always, always so harsh, sugarspun. But it's alright - I like it, after all. Good fight."

She should have been expecting that, honestly she should. Large hands closed around her arms, jerking on her, and it didn't matter that she was stronger than him in the moment, her balance was gone.

With a girlish squeal she fell, landing on top of the trainee, and scrambled up so she was sitting on his stomach instead of just laying on him in a heap. There was a brief flash of color along her cheeks, more because she was startled than for any other reason, but it faded quickly as features shut down and eyes narrowed. "Masochist," she accused him, voice soft, though her lips did tug up minutely on one side.

Getting back to her feet, she'd offer a hand down to him to help him back up.

He hadn't expected it to work, although he was pleasantly surprised when it did. Sort of pleasantly surprised. Her extra weight, slight through it was, pressed into the aches caused by her during their spar. He groaned as she stood and grabbed her hand, although he was careful not to rely on her to pull up his entire weight. After all, Horace was about as big as two PEytons at least.

He almost let the comment about masochism slide, almost. Horace would neither confirm nor deny. Instead he winced and pressed a hand to his aching side. "Does that make you a sadist, then?"

"Among other things." Denying it at this point seemed absolutely petty. They'd sparred enough at this point that Horace new just how rough she could be, and just how much she enjoyed it. It wasn't a side she showed everybody, it wasn't even something that could be enjoyable with just anybody. It took the right opponent, and Horace fit the bill.

Her hands free, they came to rest on her hips, gaze skittering off across the training field before lifting back to the trainee. s**t was still messed up, she was still angry and hurt, but right that moment she didn't feel all that bad. It'd rush back later, but for now...

"Thanks Horace."
