A contest for the first high class offspring of the Mwezi'Johari king, Shangyue.

Starts: Now!
Closes: 23:59 PST, January 31st.

.:: Family Information ::.

About the Parents

Kamia (Ecavi) - A huntress in the lower-middle class, Kamia is a seer and one of the two leaders in the internal rebellion that is beginning to build up in the Mwezi'Johari. She is typically bright and cheerful, though she can be rather lazy if given the opportunity. She will be a good mother, if strict and cautious, and will do her best to keep the cubs safe from Shangyue. Though the cubs are the result of a vile and somewhat violent abuse of power by the king, Kamia is handling it well and loves her children dearly. She will only answer any questions the cubs may have about this when they are older.

Extended Family - Kamia's mother, Sarhna (Meepfur), had cubs by the god Icarus. Since the pride does not acknowledge any other gods, this fact has long been kept secret and is not something Kamia will disclose to her cubs. As far as anybody outside her immediate family knows (or cares), her father is Bayana (Meepfur). This places her in two of the largest families in the Mwezi'Johari, the Mwezi'mtoto/Malkia and Unyezi lines. Socially, she is considered a second cousin of the King (though in reality they share no blood) but that did not matter to Shangyue.

Shangyue (Ecavi) - The murderous King of the Mwezi'Johari, Shangyue's ascension to the throne was not a pretty one. He murdered his parents and grandparents to avoid waiting for the two generations above him to fail and finally give him his chance to rule. For some time afterward, he was cautious and paranoid, but he has become quite comfortable as king and has begun making some changes and being more present and involved in the pride. His involvement with the cubs will be minimal so long as they and their mother cause no trouble, he will be satisfied with having his would-be heir in his control.

Extended Family - Shangyue has a tense relationship with his entire extended family. Though he insists he can and does treat them fairly while they are not a threat to his position, his actions keep them at a distance. His closest relationship would be with his brother, Shuiyue (Safaia), but even Shangyue's trust in him is starting to fail. With his distrust of the general population of the pride now outweighed by his need for a proper, legitimate heir, he will be taking a queen shortly (and she will not improve life for any of these cubs).

About the Siblings

Umepatwa (Ecavi) - Named after the last King to die of natural causes (a historical NPC and the great great grandfather of both Shangyue and Kamia), Umepatwa is the eldest son in his little family and a dark colored doppelganger of his father. He is a cheerful, trusting little fellow in general-- but an excellent, if somewhat stern and obsessive secret keeper.

Iloziya (Greenie EA), Chunyue (Puhterodactyl), Mari (Ecavi), Dwyllodrus (mouselet) - Half-siblings by Shangyue, borne by the upper-middle class guard, Tyfu (mouselet). Though they are not formally acknowledged by the King as his offspring, their lineage would be hard to deny after more than a passing glance at them. Being raised by one of Shangyue's most violent and vicious supporters, they are generally not a pleasant bunch and neither mother would encourage her litter to interact with the other. That is not to say they would never learn about or be interested in each other on their own.

The Illegitimate Heir & Shaman`s Apprentice.

Shangyue's Illegitimate Heirs

King Shangyue has purposefully avoided giving himself an heir, refusing to take a queen and produce any legitimate offspring. However, he has not been so careful as to sire no children. To a point, he was lucky and was not immediately faced with children born under the attentive gaze of the Great Lion.. until he decided to pursue Kamia.

Though born on the borders of the Mwezi'Johari in the rebel camp led by Meshach (magnadearel), Kamia's litter was properly witnessed by the midwife Caritas (mouselet) and all four (twin girls, two boys) are confirmed members of the High Class and each a potential heir to the throne. The first born of this litter especially, a purple girl with blue eyes, was quickly recognized by the rebels as Shangyue's first heir-- one who would reasonably have every right to make a claim to the throne until the king could produce a legitimate heir, and some would still argue that her claim came first.

The rebel's plan was to keep the cubs a secret- to keep them safe from the king and to have some control over what would certainly be a crucial piece of a puzzle when the time came to overthrow the king. Traditionalists would, of course, demand some deference to proper succession.

Of course, it would not be so simple.

Discovery

In the Mwezi'Johari, it's getting hard to tell who you can trust. Ultimately, that is what gets the little family and their rebel hosts found out.

Ota & Kamia (Ecavi) are the unofficial leaders of the internal rebellion in the Mwezi'Johari. When Kamia is attacked by Shangyue, she is taken to the external rebels to keep her and the cubs she'll bear safe-- though both of them, being seers, already know they'll end up being high class cubs with some claim to the throne. While Kamia is on the borders, Ota will remain within the pride and continue working to get things moving on the inside of the pride. Her trust will be placed in Vesper (Ecavi), and he will be one of the first to learn what Shangyue has done and that he has some illegitimate offspring on the borders-- and that his would-be heir is even a girl.

Vesper, unfortunately, will mistakenly trust his sister, Rusha'maua (Talencia), with this information and the news will reach the king rather quickly. Rather than denying it, Shangyue will decide to deal with it- and his plan will be to take control of his heir himself, so his uncle and the rebels can't have her. With some of his Royal Guards, he will personally come to the borders and claim her for himself.

Unfortunately, he's going to be given the heir's green-eyed twin.

Split Up

When Shangyue takes the cub he believes to be his heir, he will do the only thing he can think of that will keep her both busy and out of the running for the throne- he will deliver her to Lailah K'chol (mouselet) and declare that she is the first of the shaman's new apprentices. She will be trained as a potential future shaman, though with the unspoken implication that she should never actually succeed Lailah.

Since Shangyue supposedly has what he wants, Kamia will see no reason not to return to the pride-- with one exception. To sell the illusion that Shangyue has gotten the heir and they have nothing else to hide, she will take the two boys and go home.. and leave the illegitimate heir in the care of Meshach and his rebels, who are no longer a secret but seem to be in no immediate danger for it yet.

As the twins grow, Kamia will make a point to visit with each but ultimately won't be able to be as close as any of them would like. The apprentice will be expected to act as the stolen heir, keeping her sister's existence a secret for as long as she is able. The hidden heir will be taught by rebels as much as they are able to teach and, should she be discovered wandering near the pride by any unfamiliar pride members, to give her sister's name as her own.

OOC

TL;DR - Shangyue's illegitimate heir has a twin sister that is mistakenly claimed by the king and put to work as the shaman's apprentice so that he can keep an eye on her and, hopefully, keep her out of the running for the throne. The fact that the heir has a twin and is safely beyond the king's grasp will be a secret from all but the external rebels she lives with and the most trusted internal rebels. Outside of the rebel camp, the heir assumes the identity of her sister and hopes nobody realizes the difference. Both will be relatively cut off from their mother, with the apprentice living with Shangyue (though not comfortably or as properly acknowledged family) and the heir living with the rebels and in the care of their uncle Meshach (magnadearel) and aunt Runa (Painted Moose).

Both girls will be put onto the Notable Members list. The heir under 'external rebels' and the apprentice under 'monarchy,' at least until they are old enough to decide their own labels. Their brothers will be (tentatively) listed under internal rebels.

CONTEST

Since the twins will need to cooperate ICly, I figure it'll be more fun if you get to pick your own partners! No RP prompts, simply some questions about how they feel about their situation.

Heir's Name & Meaning:

Q1. How do the twins feel about keeping all these secrets and sharing a public identity? Does one mind more than the other? Which one?

Q2. How do each of the twins feel about their living arrangements? What do they think of Shangyue? Of Kamia?

Q3. What do they each think about their place in the line of succession? Do they even want the throne?

Q4. Rebels or loyalists (or one of each)? When old enough to decide, based on current information, are they more likely to side with or against Shangyue?

Disclaimer: Neither twin will ultimately succeed Shangyue and become the next monarch of the Mwezi'Johari. That is, unfortunately, a position I intend to keep. However! That OOC fact does not change that all four of these cubs ICly have a genuine claim should they want to make it (and/or fight for it) in the future. It can and should affect what you do with these characters.

None of them will be put on any official version of the line of succession but keep in mind that, ICly, Shangyue controls that ;3

Heir's Name & Meaning: Nketa (Igbo for Heir)
Heir's Owner: mouselet
Heir's Personality: Nketa hates her life. Because she's the eldest, she has to live apart from her family, minus infrequent visits from her mother. She spends most of her time with Meshach and his family who are her family too, yeah, but not her immediate family. It's her fault that she's separated from her siblings, but it's also her father's fault for fathering them. Who cares about a throne when it costs you your family?

Apprentice's Name & Meaning: Antara (Second Note)
Apprentice's Owner: nessiaing
Apprentice's Personality: Antara is bitter. She is not overly a fan of well anything! Well not everything Antara has a soft spot for Lailah. She wishes most days that she could confide in the lioness training her and make it all come to a crashing end. She will strive to do well in her work, and learn lots. She doesn't truly want to hold any sort of prominent position in the pride she would frankly be happier as nothing more than a hunter.

Q1. How do the twins feel about keeping all these secrets and sharing a public identity? Does one mind more than the other? Which one?

Antara hates the lies, the secrets and not being able to be herself. She wants it all to end but bites her tongue because she is more afraid of the secrets coming out than she is annoyed by keeping them.

When the plan was first explained to the twins, Nketa thought it sounded fun. After all, what's the point of being a twin if you can't fool people into thinking you're your sibling instead? But the longer this goes on, the more she's come to hate it. Sometimes she just wants to go up to her father, tell him who she is, and have done with it. It's probably a good thing that she doesn't actually live in the pride and it's not so easy to go up to him.

Q2. How do each of the twins feel about their living arrangements? What do they think of Shangyue? Of Kamia?

Antara is jealous of all of her siblings, she wishes she were the one left out in the rogue lands able to run and play with her distant cousins or even better yet be one of her brothers and not have to live a pretend life at all. She isn't really a big fan of either Shangyue or Kamia, after all it is all their fault that she is in this situation. If Shangyue wasn't such a terrible lion her mother wouldn't feel a need to hide the true heir. As for Kamia she feels like Kamia values her life less than she does her sisters, the true heir, after all she did just hand Antara right over to Shangyue.

This is absolutely all Shangyue's fault for having kids. Not that Kamia's exempt from blame either. Nketa knows that the adults have some kind of plan for her, but keeping her twin and brothers away is just awful and she hates being all alone. Meshach and Runa's family doesn't count.

Q3. What do they each think about their place in the line of succession? Do they even want the throne?

Really Antara could really care less, she has no desire to ever be on the throne or close to anyone who is on it. She much rather just live her own life.

That's a tricky question for Nketa. Considering that she is the heir, illegitimate or not (whatever that means), she should have an opinion. If she was on the throne, would she get to have her family back, or would she be just as isolated, this time because of power? If giving up the throne meant she could have her family back and just...be normal...she'd do it in a heartbeat.

Q4. Rebels or loyalists (or one of each)? When old enough to decide, based on current information, are they more likely to side with or against Shangyue?

She is a rebel but only by default. She doesn't want Shangyue to be king, but only because she doesn't want to be the daughter to the king, heir or not she wants as far from the throne as she can get.

Growing up amongst rebels does mean Nketa shares their views...but so much of what they say is wrong happened before she was even born. That being said, no one tells her much of anything. She only has other people's words to go off of. She doesn't even know if her father is that bad! And when she's feeling lonely and isolated, she can't help wondering if Shangyue would understand better than Meshach, Runa, and Kamia...

Heir's Name & Meaning: Ruqia 'Rise, Ascend'
Heir's Owner: khit khat
Heir's Personality: Ruqia is a strong-willed and very determined young cub with a solid heart and head. Even though her father is Shangyue she feels she has neither learned nor taken any traits from his personality. Her strength however and strong will comes from the powerful female presence that is her mom. At times Ruqia can be quite defiant and it takes someone with a good heart to keep her on the right track, but in the end she always makes the right choice. She is confident in the part she plays and what she has to do to make things right. Her sister is putting on a brave face and she will not let her efforts go unmatched. She just needs to remind herself, it's all for the better.

Apprentice's Name & Meaning: Pratima 'image, likeness, reflection'
Apprentice's Owner: CaliWolfe
Apprentice's Personality: Manipulative, she's willing to put on a good face for the king, the shaman and all of the pride. All she wants is for the pride to be good, happy, at peace. She believes the rebels can accomplish this and secretly will do whatever she can to support her sister. As she ages her faith in the rebels may waver but ultimately she will still side with them in the end. Little things that the king does will reassure herself that siding with the rebels is the right choice.

Q1. How do the twins feel about keeping all these secrets and sharing a public identity? Does one mind more than the other? Which one?

Together they are a force not to reckon with they are not weak and do not let their situation drag them down. They know what they must do and why it must be done. They do not look at themselves as individuals but rather the same souls just residing in two bodies. To work together is better then to work against, besides two is better then one.The secrets they harbor are not those of a burden but rather of a strength and empowerment they know they bestow in their lineage.

Q2. How do each of the twins feel about their living arrangements? What do they think of Shangyue? Of Kamia?

Ruqia feels comfort at home with the rebels knowing she is away from her fathers ruling but this comes with the burden of knowing her sister is not be her side and with their horrible father. Any love Ruqia had for her father died when she grew to see the damage he has done and pain he has caused to others. As for their mother Kamia they adore her feminine strength for being strong with her ordeal with the king and appreciate what she has done for her cubs and the rebels.

Pratima has mixed emotions towards Shangyue, wanting to believe he's doing what is right for the pride but at the same time is proven wrong by the way things work under his rule. These "little faults" of his will be what makes her side with the rebels, in addition to the fact that her sister is one of them. She does not hate or dislike Kamia but feels detached, almost a strained relationship between the two of them. Praima also does not mind her living arrangements, and is almost proud to be the best inside source the rebels can get.

Q3. What do they each think about their place in the line of succession? Do they even want the throne?

Ruqia doesn't want the throne, she just wants the world to be right. She feels as though she has a big weight on her shoulders but with that weight she can make a difference. However as true heir she would take the throne if needed.

Pratima feels similar. She doesn't want to rule, but if that would mean the pride would be made a better place she wouldn't resist taking the throne.

Q4. Rebels or loyalists (or one of each)? When old enough to decide, based on current information, are they more likely to side with or against Shangyue?

Both siblings will at the end side with the rebels.
