The sight of the morning light filtering over the tall mountains were always a sight Eyther looked forward to every day when she awoke. This morning felt even more spectacular as, this time, she was already up and on the move long before the bright rays even bothered to awake on the horizon. Something that wasn't exactly the norm for the Angeni. Today was the day she would set out from her wood-lands. She felt a calling to the north, and her heart didn't seem to want to rest until she was on the move. Yet at the moment, she allowed herself to rest and ignore the call beside the teepee of a nameless shaman who camped in her wood. She'd come to seek aid of the woman, and while she listened to her busy about in the structure she watched the sun-rise slowly. Smile touching her face softly, she remained for an unknown amount of time, motionless, in the grass. It was only the harsh clearing of a throat that tore her gaze away from the light of day, and onto the old form of the shaman, who, at the sudden movement, raised her hands up in apology before speaking in her slow, kind way. Tucking her relaxing wings softly at her side, Eyther gracefully motioned with her chin once to beacon the woman closer. In her arms she held an assortment of items, some Eyther very easily recognized, and others. Not so much. Ears raised in her curiosity as the old one came on closer to her side, mumbling words she didn't entirely comprehend, (After all, she didn't spend a lot of time in the company of humans. Her understanding on the language was limited.) gently patting at her shoulder, and running her hand along her side under her wings, and offering the mare a withered but warm smile. It was a smile that got her wondering just how long the woman would remain in their world. Flicking her long tail idly, she sent a blessing for her mentally to the heavens.

"Past the mountains, huh? Don't know what you seek in the desert, but these should help along the way," Each phrase was accented with a gesture, first to the mountains, and then to her basket, and finally a pet to Eyther herself.

Right ear twitching softly as she focused on her words, Eyther nodded. Help, yes. That is what she needed. Help over the mountains. She'd never been there, but she'd heard enough stories of the heat, and knew she wasn't prepared. It took them almost an hour of futzing about before Eyther stood before the woman, who looked on proud of their work. The Shaman had thought long on what was needed, and in the end, the mare was gifted two bags that sat snugly against the side of her body, resting where her side tucked into her thigh. Each held a small assortment of food she could eat, should she not find any, and some water in the other. There was also a small wrap of cloth with some strange mixture on it to be place on a small wound. As well, her long hanging, fiery mane was tied up around her head in soft loops and some braiding. It sat heavily on her neck, but even now she could feel some relief of the cool breeze as it swept through and tickled her back and sides. Shaking her head lightly to test out the weight, she smiled. It was comfortable enough, offering a nicker of thanks, she leaned into give her wiry grey hair a nuzzle and huff before stepping back, bowing low with sweeping wings. "Thank you, wise shaman. Great Mother's eyes shine kindly upon you." Even knowing the lady couldn't understand her, Eyther felt compelled to offer up a blessing before flicking her long tail and turning towards the mountains. Farewells were done, plus. She'd be sure to visit the kind shaman upon her return. And with that she spread her large wings and broke into a gallop, waiting to pick up some speed before three solid beats of all four of her wings in unison pulled her hooves from the ground and up into the sky. Each harsh flap of them dragging her higher and higher above the tree-line before she was able to comfortably catch the wind and soar through the skies. Ahead the tall mountains broke the sky, and a bright smile crossed her lips. She'd be there soon enough.

Her path was an easy one, the warm air flowing down and over the mountains that separated the lush world she knew from the heated, barren lands of the north, easily giving her lift into the air. and providing her with the ease of gliding over the drafts, the only thing that cut her glide was her wide wings flapping in unison every once in awhile. Already her face was alight with a bright smile as her curious and eager gaze took in the stark, almost nothingness that laid out before her. It was so ugly in it's appearance, yet she felt herself instantly captivated by the sweeping dunes and speckles of warm colors that dotted her horizon. Yet even in it's strangely beckoning land, she already felt the heat begin to dance at her hooves and wings. She thanked the Great Mother that she'd stopped at the shamans teepee before setting out, she couldn't imagine going this trip with the heaviness of her mane resting fully on her. Feeling an inner joy build her chest, she flew in sweet, lazy sweeps, her hooves kicking at the air as her eyes took in any details, any landmark they could soak in. She'd planned enough time to travel in this land for at least a few weeks, and Eyther swore to herself she would take in all the lessons this land had. It was an easy enough decision, yet nothing always went as planned. It was something Eyther quickly realized when her bright gaze landed on the form of another doubled over in the middle of the sand, and the dotted line of red that followed behind them. Drawing in a breath, she tucked her wings in to begin a decent to the ground without a thought to offer aid.

A harsh groan cut through the hot, still air of the desert as Avicus stumbles through the sand. Each step sinking deep, as he struggled to keep moving forward. What an idiotic idea that was. He growled inwardly, his wing cradling his side where he could feel the harsh burning of the wound that bubbled there. Yet as stupid as it was, he would do it all again if he was back in his hoof-marks. Gods was he starving. Lips pulling back in a snarl, he felt his tail lash out behind him as he silently screamed at his misfortune. One second he was hunting down prey in the dunes, his steps silent as he prowled closer to his unsuspecting target when all along he was the one being hunted. The whole thing was a damn trap! Tripping when his hoof scrapped a hidden rock in the sand, Avicus quickly spread his wings to catch his balance, only to let out a pained shout as the motion pulled at the torn skin that lined his sides and flank, and caused him to fall to his knees in the burning sand. "Ahh, ******** that stings." He groaned again, his mind wanting to quickly get to his hooves, yet his body wouldn't respond. He was so damn tired. Breath coming on heavy, shallow gasps, he felt his head hit the sand and moaned his pain as his eyes closed tight. Was this really to be his end? Surviving that damned walker only to fall so far out?

"No." The Kalona growled, his head rising as he tried to stand, only to slip back to the ground when his deep wounds pulled. "Is this some kind of joke, dying here in the middle of the ******** sand? Couldn't even be in the shade of a tree or something?!" He screamed to the sky, his body shaking from the strain he'd put on it during his escape and the blood-loss that fatigued him. He couldn't let it end this way, he was too strong, too proud. He was a Kalona dammit! Yet when his head fell to the sand once more, he couldn't help the shuddering breath that escaped him as his eyes began to swim. This wasn't how he was supposed to go, dying with no one bearing witness or even knowing his name, his greatness. But when he felt his eyes begin to get too heavy to keep open, he sighed and slowly succumbed to the black.

It was only moment later when the heavy beat of wings stirred up the air around him easily announcing the arrival of the Angeni, each beat causing his fiery mane to dance around his head but it all went unnoticed by the stallion. At least until the gentle nudge to his head caused his eyes to open a sliver and stare up at her. In the half awake state, he could swear it was that walker coming back to claim him as it's prize. He wasn't planning on letting it happen. When he saw it's lips part in a smile, he let out a deep, rumbling warning growl in it's direction, his lips parting to bare his fanged teeth. Feeling a sense of pride stir in his chest as he watched it step back in surprise, he snorted, stirring up the sand in front of him.

"Stop that at once, I only want to help you."

The voice was sweet, and fluid, yet lined with the stark scolding tone that didn't sit well with him. Demonic gaze focusing in briefly, he was taken back a step by what exactly stood before him, and his threatening snarl continued to sound from deep in his chest. "Angeni, just my luck." Tail lashing, he tried to pull himself together only to feel her hoof place heavily on his shoulder pushing him down. The motion alone caused his pride to rear up, did this mare really think she could tell him what to do. "Get off of me." Eyes narrowing, he pushed forward causing her to stumble a step and circle away, his heated glare following her every move.

Come now, would you rather just sit here and die. Stop being so stubborn."

He could tell she was putting an effort into sounding angry and stern this time, and if he was in a better mood he would have laughed at the poor attempt of anger she'd summoned. (WIP)
