"Oh, come on Cydi..." Amaranth sighed from deep within the hollow of the great oak tree. It felt like she had been stuck there for days, although she knew in her little calm part of her mind that it couldn't have been more than a few hours at most. She looked over her shoulder for the 100th time at her crumpled wing. It had been a rather foolish mistake that lead her to this point, trying to fly too fast in a storm. She'd allowed something to shake her, frighten her into fleeing through the dark night until the winds and the bare autumn branches had ripped at her wings. The left one took it much harder than the right one, and she wondered how long it would take to heal. She didn't even know if it would be safe to return to her full size with her wing in this shape and cringed thinking about the wing straightening and stretching out as she grew. For now she had taken shelter in this great, old tree. It seemed sturdy enough and would protect her, she knew. But she was getting hungry and thirsty. Clever Cydi had found her soon after her injury, somehow that mouse seemed to always know where she was when she needed her, but now she was still waiting for Cydi to return and she could still hear the storm outside. She could only hope the little mouse was alright.

Vyrikyr cringed as another bolt of lightning slashed through the sky. She had grounded herself earlier in the evening as the winds had began to pick up and the sky grew dark. She was just now starting to miss the cozy cave her family shared, especially as the rain began to pour down harder. "I really should considering settling down somewhere myself," she muttered trying to blow that long strand of her bangs, soaked and matted down with water, out of her eyes. "At least finding a nice place to get out of the weather, especially when the weather is like this..." she jumped as another lightning bolt lashed through the dark sky. "Oh maybe I should just haul tail home whenever inclement weather hits, but mom and dad are smart, they'll probably figure that out."

As she was meditating on her options she heard a frantic noise echoing through the darkened woods. Small, high pitched, but insistent - the squeaking seemed to be growing closer and closer until she looked down and saw a small cream colored wet mass crawl beneath her. "Well hello there," she said eying the little mouse carefully, positioning her hooves as not to step on the little creature. "What's wrong?" she asked with concern. "You look upset, little one? What's bothering you?"

Amaranth curled in on herself, trying to remain warm despite her soaked through coat that chilled her to the bone. She stayed there a while like that until she thought she felt the very tree begin to shake just a bit. "Cydi?" she called out. "Cydi, is that you?" she called again, her voice wavering with uncertainty. She heaved a sigh of relief when Cydi's psale nose poked its way back into the hollow. "Oh, thank goodness, Cydi, it is you!" she sighed, but then gasped to find the tree shake again.

"Is this it?" Vyrikyr asked trying to steady herself on a wide branch without much luck. On a normal day it would have been difficult to make that landing, however at night, in the dark, with the rain this was nearly impossible. Which is why she wanted to hurry up and get whatever it was that this little mouse wanted her to see or do or whatever before the weather got any worse. "Not that it can get much worse," she muttered to herself as she peeked into the hollow of the old oak tree. "What do you see?" she asked again and gasped as a small pair of eyes, much smaller than the mouse's. "Oh my!"

Amaranth gasped and stumbled back a little from the wide golden eyes looking down upon her. "Cydi," she said shakily. "Is-is this one of your friends?" she certainly hoped so. At least the stranger had a kind look to her, and right now - with a damaged wing on a stormy night - she really needed a friendly face an a bit of help. "C-" thunder roared and lightning flashed across the sky. "Please, can you help me?" she implored.

"Oh my gosh," Vyrikyr gasped and looked back at the little insistent mouse who had dragged her up there. "Well, it's pretty clear you can't stay in here," she jumped a little bit at the roaring of the thunder. "This tree could come down at any moment either with the lightning or the wind or anything..." She flapped her wings again to stabilize herself, never really able to get a firm purchase on the branch of the old wood. "Alright! Then how do we do this? I don't want to hurt her any more getting her out! Any ideas there little mouse?"

Amaranth looked from Cydi to the mare. "Cydi, can you help me?" she asked softly. In her diminutive form she was a little bigger than her companion. She trusted Cydi implicitly. She only hoped her friend could and would be willing to help her this time.

She would quickly find that she never should have doubted her dear friend. Without hesitation the mouse approached the mare and carefully helped her onto her back. Once there Cydi gingerly began padding her way towards the hollow's entrance. Amaranth tried to hold back the whimpers of pain and hold onto the mouse's back as they made their way up towards the golden eyed mare. She was certain there was a lesson to be learned here about maybe being just a little less adventurous, at least in bad weather.

Vyrikyr was feeling the strain on her wings in the strong winds but did her best to hold her course and stay steady. She stretched out her snout as the mouse and flutter came closer to her. "Take it easy there," she coaxed as the pair drew near. "Almost there..." Vyrikyr's best plan for the moment was to get them into her snout and then *Gently* tuck them onto her back. At least there her wings could help provide a little more support or maybe even protection once they reached the ground. But this was a slow, tedious process and the bad weather was not helping the matter in the least.

"Cydi, are you sure about this?" Amaranth asked as the mouse made her way onto the golden eyed one's nose. She felt a pang of guilt as she saw the wind mare wince, Cydi's little claws must have been digging into her nose to keep them steady in the high winds. As the larger mare turned her head slowly, measuredly to deposit the pair on her back, Amaranth wondered how she could ever repay such an act of kindness. In her present state she wondered if she would be able to do such a thing.

The phrase no good deed goes unpunished flashed through Vyrikyr's mind as she wrinkled her now smarting nose. But she had managed to load her fragile cargo, now she just had to make it somewhere safe with them. The winged mare first made her way carefully to the ground, fearing that attempting to fly in this weather would not only be dangerous for her, but also for her little passengers. Once on the ground she started off looking for a safe place to take sanctuary. Maybe then she could help the poor flutter with her wing.

Amaranth was clinging to the back of the winged mare fiercely, grateful that Cydi was right there with her trying to shelter her small form from the storm. If she made it out of this she would have to tell that little mouse just how grateful she was for her presence in her life. If she made it thought this she might just be grateful enough to allow the mouse to attempt to make a match for her (letting the little darling make a match didn't necessarily mean that she'd have to stick with the stallion forever, now did it?) She cringed again as the wind battered her carrier as they moved through the woods. You would think that the woods would do something to protect them from the wind, but in reality it only managed to funnel the wind and channel it together to make the gusts stronger.

"Alright," Vyrikyr said between the gusting winds and the driving rains. She had seen a grouping of trees, very close together with some branches boarded up between the lengths of the trunks. It looked as if some children of the nearby village had used it as a play fort or hut during the times of better weather. For now though it would have to do for their temporary shelter from the storm. "Almost there!" she called over her shoulder to her little passengers on her back. Now all she had to do was get there without anything falling and crushing her or her cargo or falling over and crushing her little riders herself...

Amaranth buried her head in the mare's back as they made the last few treacherous steps into the shelter she had found for them. The little fluttered only breathed a sigh of relief once they were safely within the confines of its walls. Although she was using the term "walls" loosely in this case. The winds still ripped and gusted through the area and the rain still leaked through in places, but there was a little bit of quietness here as compared to the tempest raging on the outside and she was grateful for the peace.

As the mare who had become their protector slowly stretched out her wings, Amaranth and Cydi began trying to make a better assessment of her wing and what could be done to help it.

"Ok, take it easy you little guys," Vyrikyr said craning her neck around to check on them. "Now that things are a little bit stiller, what can we do to make you more comfortable for now?" She sniffed at the pair hesitantly. "I don't think we should do too much right now," she said as the lightning flashed briefly and then the world faded back to darkness. "I'd hate to see you get hurt anymore. There's not a whole lot that we can do in pitch blackness to patch you up. Are you comfortable now?" she asked with concern. "Would you be able to sleep like that?"
