The Canjawa'Yashi

Pride BG (by Seaki)
Pride Symbol

Within even the most twisting of sands, you can find life. Rivers running through the warm grains, green things growing along the banks, remnants of civilization. From these sands, Sekhemket is said to have arisen, ready to lead a new dynasty of lions forged in the warmth, tempered by the sun, willing to recognize the world for what it is. Run by the Gods, and a Lion who claims to have descended from the Gods themselves, the Canjawa'Yashi has begun to make its name known. May the Sun guide them through the trials to come.

History
The Tomes of the Gods

It started in the desert. Amidst the shifting sands, along the banks of a river, a cub was raised by his mother and mother alone. She told him fanciful tales of gods and lions, of how his father had graced her with his presence, and created the cub's very being. That cub was taught from a young age that he was destined for something more. It was with this destiny in mind that Djoser-tety went on a quest through the burning desert to find his truth. Across the line he walked, along the curve of the river, until finally he came across great stone ruins. It was in these ruins that he found what he will claim was the Gods. It was here that he was told what he could become, if he fought to create.

He was destined to be a Pharaoh.

Given the name Sekhemkhet by this phantasm, the lion took off along the sands, picking up rogue lions as he went, drawing them in to begin the creation of the Canjawa'Yashi. He spoke of the festivals, brought life to a rag-tag band, and from there, created a Pride. They all stand together, he says, despite their class. Though there are some that are not looked upon favorably, set in the lowest class as those that serve the noble lot, all are treated well. Under Sekhemkhet's paw, the pride has flourished, but will there be the same peace on the horizon...?

Culture and Holidays
The Ways of the Land

Rites
Death
The dead are celebrated, their lives remembered by those that are left behind. Within the ruins that Sekhemkhet has found, the bodies are each given individual spots, covered in scraps of cloth and buried with their possessions. It is believed that they go on to another life, to stay with the god of the Underworld. However, you had best pray your spirit weighs well on the Scales...

Birth
The birth of new members is highly regarded. No matter what rank they're from, they're seen as the future of the Pride. Generally, a birth of higher ranking members is overlooked by a Priest/ess and a Healer to ensure no complications with the birth, though with the lower classes, it is usually only a Healer. Any still-borns are sent to the same burial site as those who died in battle or old age, and treated with just as much reverence.

Elders
As a lion dwindles in strength in the older years of their life, it is expected that their children and grandchildren will look after them, see to it that they are well taken-care of in their old age. It is a disgrace on the lion if they refuse this service, seen as an insult.

The Book of Life
The names of each child born is recorded on large leaves, usually by pawprints, each differed by special additions to the print. This book allows the Pride to keep knowledge of their history, and the Scribes are expected to keep close track on this.

Joinings and Breedings
The truth of the matter is that while Rogue breeding is allowed, the Pharaoh and his consort frown upon the idea of hybrid breeding. The other species are not seen as creatures smiled upon by the Gods. While the joining of two lions outside of the Pride is heralded as lucky, as it brings in new blood, there is a special significance placed on the breedings of the royal blood and those of noble descent.

These breedings and joining of lives are placed on a pedestal. They are seen as Holy, and often celebrated with large, lavish feasts, and offerings made both to the Gods, and the Bride's father.

Leopards, Cheetahs, Wild Dogs, Hyenas
While leopards and Cheetahs are often allowed in the lower ranks of the Pride, though never in one that celebrates the gods, they are still seen as lesser than the Lion species of the Pride. They are capable of being Hunters, Crafters, or other such things, but never Priests, Musicians, or Dancers. Wild Dogs and Hyenas, however, are put in positions of servitude, often acting as servants to the upper class. This position is much more commonly offered to Cheetahs or Leopards, however.

Celebrations:
Wep-renpet
New Year's Day
Rejuvenation and Rebirth of the world. This day is heralded with great joy, a gathering of the Pride where each member gathers together to enjoy music, crafting, dancing, everything they could hope for.

Bikin Mutuwa
Day of the Dead
Celebrated privately, a day to honor the dead of the family. This day is set aside, and many will find themselves left alone to practice the tradition.

Sarkin Rayuwa
Celebrate the God-King
Held to show the link between the Pharaoh and the Gods. An effigy is carried to a shrine by the Priests, and then the vessel is brought to a ruin, escorted inside by the head of the pride. Dancers and crafters are important during this, as drums must be made and played while dancers interact to the songs of the Priests.

Bayan Rayuwar
Celebration of the Underworld.
A day of feasting in which all pay homage to their percieved god of the Underworld. It is spent together, offering small tributes to the effigy that the Crafters make.

Festival of M'Asashe
May Fertility Bless our Lands
No matter what a lion does, there is a need for the fertile land that surrounds them. That land feeds their prey, and in turn feeds them. It gives the crafters all they need to create. The Dancers and Musicians need the life for inspiration. It is seen as a week's festival in order to make sure that the Gods of Fertility will smile upon the river, and still keep them from flood.

Ranks and Titles
Those who Live Within

Royalty
Pharaoh - (1/1)
The head of the Pride. He leads with a fair paw, under the guidance of the Gods. It is believed that his bloodline descends from the gods themselves.

Queen - (1/1)
The female whose life is joined with the Pharaoh's own. These two are a lifemated pair. She is seen as a Goddess incarnate in her own right.

Heir (0/??)
The children of the Pharaoh and the Queen. No matter what rank they take through their life, they will always be seen as children of the Royal Blood, and be brought to be considered for the throne once the Pharaoh steps down.

Noble Ranks
Noble (2/??)
Usually the consorts of the Pharaoh and Queen, or simply born of better blood, these lions are the highest of the high, beneath only the royals and the Priests.

Priest/ess (0/20)
With ten of each gender, these are those in contact with the gods. Always Lions, they are seen as those who are capable of bringing the Pharaoh the visions he needs to keep the Pride safe. [Not necessary for them to be Seers]

Scribe (1/??)
These lions keep record of the Pride, and are seen as necessary in more ways than one can possibly believe. They take everything into account and are thought to have the most incredible memories. They know all there is to know about the Pride and its history.

Musician/Dancer - (1/??)
During festivals, it is they who lift the Pride's spirits. Gifted with song and skill, they are blessed indeed. No matter how they dance or sing, these are always beloved by the high and low ranks alike.

Royal Guard - (3/8 )
These guards were promoted from common rank, either by the Queen or Pharaoh, or perhaps a noble. They are the Guards who, when the Pharaoh and his mate venture for the purpose of peace, attend them, and stand at the head of the rest of the guard.

Common Ranks
Guard - (1/??)
The Guards are simple. They are the lions and lioness who patrol the pridal borders and keep their people safe.

Healer - (1/??)
While necessary for the Pride, these can be any feline species, generally well trained by those before them. They are versed in plants and how to use the water to keep their pride safe.

Elder - (0/??)
Those who can no longer bear cubs or Fight. They are revered for their wisdom, and are cared for by younger members of their families.

Craftsman - (1/??)
The craftsmen are gifted in their talents, but as their gift is not necessarily always used for holy purpose, it is a rank open to any feline.

Hunter/Huntress - (0/??)
This rank feeds the Pride, offering both meat and other option to those who desire them. These are almost always Lions and Lionesses, but occasionally open to the other two feline species.

Apprentice - (0/??)
The Adolescents of the Pride, generally training for their next rank.

Child - (0/??)
Cub-Juve ranks default to this, until their adolescent year when they begin their training

Lower Rank
Servant - (0/??)
Treated well, but nonetheless the lowest of the low ranks, this is often inhabited by any non-leonine species. They are trusted members of the household, and yet have the greatest amount of suspicion upon them.
