Hjortur did, in fact, know enough to follow her. After all, he had come with the sole intention of providing little miss Pippin with a proper and delicious meal, and as much as he'd never admit it aloud, the Lady Aeroniel did receive some amazing benefits within the palace as the queen's head lady-in-waiting. It was nice that she was helping them out.
She always seemed to help him out when he was in trouble. The was a part of him that hoped that one day he might be able to return the favor, even if all he could do was make her smile for one instant.
He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen the Lady truly smile.
Glancing to Pippin, he made sure she had decided to follow along and never fell too far behind. The palace was large, and confusing, and a lot for someone so young to take in at once. The last thing that he wanted was for her to become lost.
When they came to the kitchen, he urged the young girl forward towards the foods. Oh... The chefs always outdid themselves here, that they did. How he missed living with all of this absolute luxury!
Actually, he came back often enough under the premise of visiting his parents to still partake in it most of the time.
Shhh...!
If anynaiad minded, surely they would have explicitly told him to stop by now.
"How do you like the food, Miss Pippin?"

How did she not know what a right hand was?
Oh. Right. Kid. Sigh.
"A right hand is like a really important assistant," explained Aeroniel, trying her best to keep it simple. "The idea is that a right hand, there's things your hand does for you, right? It reaches out, it holds things, it can command -- being a right hand means I help The Queen with those things!" And more, considering her extrasensory abilities, but she had likely already been too complicated...
"Anyway!" Aeroniel scooped up her own food, leaving the rest for Pippin and Hjortur. "I'm sure the cooks will guide you it when you're ready. I'm going to my suite."
The cook groused at her as she hurriedly swam away. A small hit from her tail before she slipped out the door promptly shut him up.

As Aeroniel made her departure, Hjortur gave her a respectful (and grateful) bow to it. Who knows what the naiad would have done if he'd gotten to this point, or perhaps to the point that was inevitable to come, without at least some attempt at planning, and some sort of closure of what was to come.
Oh well, best worry about that later. He was of a like mind with the girl before him, and frankly he was ready for some food!
Giving the cook one of his best smiles, and notably making no change at the rolled eyes in response, he grabbed a plate for himself and set himself down across from the girl. "How do you like your food?" he asked as he motioned to cut his own in the proper way. She wasn't as ill-prepared for such a meal as she might have been, and it would have been hoping for a lot for her to immediately know table-manners. They could work on that later.
