Bousvor was pleased to get away from the pride for a bit. His thrall was not in the least bit happy about having to be left behind; though he was positive she would have complained even if she'd been allowed to come alone. She had managed to throw quite a fit outside his den the night before. Only much soothing, and a thinly veiled hint that she'd get something if she was good, had allowed him to get any sleep.

The tawny male glanced at his companions this time around. One was an experienced reaver like himself. The other two were total novices. Still freeborn until they completed this. Hopefully they wouldn't be total klutzes. The green one, he had noticed carried himself with a bit of an attitude.

It was finally here! Calder could barely contain his excitement that morning. He was going on his first viking! The adol could barely sleep last night and he wanted to leave at first light. Unfortunately older heads prevailed. There was another freeborn, like him, in the group and two experienced reavers. Calder held his head high and puffed out his chest. If he wasn't strutting as they walked along, he wasn't far from it. He was going to be the best on this trip and prove himself.

Oh he had very lofty ideas of what he was going to bring home, and what they were going to bring home. He almost snickered every time the white haired lion glanced at him. Despite the lion's appearance, he learned his name was Bousvor, he could see the muscles play beneath the supple pelt. That's the kind of reaver he wanted to be. Strong. Assure. Awesome.

Diya was excited to be back in the rogue lands - not that he had enjoyed being a rogue, but coming back as a Reaver - a member of a pride - was actually quite exciting. The rogue lands represented the potential for fame and glory, depending on what they stumbled upon in their viking. What they brought back could be an amazing find that would set them apart in the pride.

Diya wasn't entirely sure what he hoped that they would find on the viking, but hopefully it would be amazing.

"Do we have a location we want to head towards?" He asked, unable to keep the eagerness from his voice. He enjoyed these days.

There was only one problem. Liran. Diya's head still hurt from their last encounter and he had not be happy to hear that the male was coming along on this trip.

Maybe they could lose him.

User Image

Liran, unlike Diya and Bousvor who were serious, and Calder who was a bit cocky, he was...joyful. He bounded along with all of the eagerness of his youth. He was older than Calder, but still youthful at heart. He grinned to himself, knowing his slightly skinnier build left him at risk of attack but hey, he was going to prove himself as amazing and he was going to impress Vittorio and find himself a damsel.

"I am gonna be the best! Man, I am gonna be awesome! I am'a'viking!" He bellowed out his song, rather out of the blue and with as much vigor as he could manage. He strutted along, almost in a dance.

"We are vikings! Vikings! Yeah!"

If Diya hadn't been planning to lose him earlier, the song was very quickly cementing the idea.

XDDDD Calder has his ego to maintain! He's going to hunt the whole rp for that thrall! It can be an npc if you'd druther.

First Dice- Bousvor (8-feathers)
Second Dice- Calder (6- thrall)

Bousvor felt the group size worked out nicely. They were all young and fit. For awhile, he'd focused on solely putting distance between them and the pride. Maybe find a place that hadn't been swept in awhile. His green eyes swept the group as Diya spoke up. Slowly he gave a nod. "Out away from everyone else." Maybe that really wasn't a destination, but a goal. Oh well. "Suggest a place if you want." Bousvor intended to check as many places as the group could reach. They had several days for this outing and he was going to use them all.

The other new member was just as excited as Calder was smug. This should be an interesting set of personalities to deal with. Bousvor smiled silently at the cub-like attitude to the whole adventure. He'd learn to pace himself sooner or later. He didn't intend to slow down to baby them. If they couldn't keep up, they could go home. He rolled his eyes in amusement at the sudden song. "Prove it. You just scared everything withing miles into hiding." He fixed a stern green eye on the purple lion. Whilst staring at the youngster he caught sight of a flutter. Bousvor detoured quickly to pick up the paw-ful of feathers that lay fluttering on the ground. Stashing them he returned quickly to the group.

It didn't bother him that he was the youngest of the lot. What mattered was that he was going on this viking. He perked his ears hoping to find out where they were going. Lo it didn't seem they had a true destination in mind. Wandering was ok he guessed. Though he did like the idea of getting away from all the other groups. Then the other freeborn burst out with a song. He looked scornfully at the purple male. "Great job bozo," he muttered under his breath though it really wasn't quite. Calder could do without the caterwauling! The green male looked smug as Bousvor put Liran into his place. Really. He looked so... so stupid. Calder eyed the purple pelt with disfavor and a wrinkled nose.

Bousvor's tawny pelt with elegant markings, or Diya's dark blue pelt were 100 times better, Heck even his green pelt looked more manly than purple. And Liran was suppose to be older. Calder was distracted as Bousvor suddenly veered off and picked up some feathers. Feathers? He tried to get a closer look, but they were quickly put away. Uh. So you could find stuff just like that? Now he started looking around in earnest. He wanted to find something! Was that a paw print? That twig looked like it had been stepped upon too. A trail! "I'll find something better than you do," he taunted Liran in a low voice, hoping the reavers wouldn't hear.

(Omg, worst luck guys. XD
5- Rotten Pelt (Diya)
10- Angry hippo mother (Liran)

Diya smirked as Bousvor put Liran in his place, but was quickly distracted by a fluff of fur hanging from a nearby bush. He grinned. He was sure it must have been a soon-to-be-thrall lounging in the distance and moved swiftly towards it. He pounced on it quickly, a noise of achievement escaping him moments before he realised that the fur, while certainly fur, was not attached to anything. Except for some less than fresh meat.
He shuddered and quickly let go of the rotten pelt, the leftovers of someone’s dinner no doubt. He crinkled his nose. Disgusting. Didn’t anyone clean the pelts?
He left the rotten pelt where it laid on the ground and tried to shrug off his foolish error.
Hopefully no one saw that.
I suggest we go this way,” Diya announced, motioning in a direction. “There is a large populated watering hole. Surely we will find something of worth there.”

Looking sheepish at the scold, Liran’s ears dropped. “Woops, sorry,” Liran mumbled at Bousvor in little more than a whisper. He didn’t want to scare things off! As Calder taunted him, Liran was reignited. “Nuh-uh! I’m going to find something way better!” He retorted, being less subtle and less quiet than Calder had been.

He was going to find the best prize of the viking! He was going to impress everyone!

At Diya’s suggestion of the direction, he tensed his muscles. “What are we waiting for then?” he called out cheerfully and raced towards the watering hole. It certainly wasn't far to the watering hole, and Liran reached it rather quickly. However, he did not stay there long, quickly retracing his steps with a yelp.

ANGRY HIPPO! ANGRY HIPPO!” He shrieked as he raced back to his companions. Apparently, when baby hippos were having a swim, mothers did not appreciate lions running towards them. That was something to remember!

What the heck Calder?! Omg poor Liran! XDDD

First Dice- Bousvor (11- shiny metal)
Second Dice- Calder (6- thrall)

Bousvor perked his hears when he noticed Diya had spotted something of interest. Following the male's movements he finally caught sight of the fur. It looked like someone was laying there. He stopped, ready to provide support in case Diya needed any backup to subdue whoever it was. It was almost too easy, he thought. The pile didn't move or make a sound as Diya moved in and pounced. Bousvor wrinkled his nose as he found out why. It was already dead.

"Tough luck," the tawny male commented sympathetically as he moved away from the stench. Bousvor nodded in quick agreement at the change in direction if only to get away from the smell. He trotted along until his foot hit something hard in the dirt. The male stopped and started to dig curiously. Quickly he uncovered a fair bit of shiny metal. With a pleased smile he tucked it in with the feathers. That might sooth his thrall if he had it made into an earring or something.

He heard the boys and stiffed a sigh. Competition was good right? They'd be amazingly lucky to find anything living at the rate these two were going. He trotted in the direction of the watering hole as the purple male took off. However, it wasn't long before the male came running back. Bousvor cast an amused glanced at Diya.

Calder tried to hid his snicker as the other lion 'caught' nothing but an old rotted hide. He wouldn't be fooled so easily as that! Eagerly he moved away from the carcass and in the direction Diya wanted to go. He was sorely tempted to go racing after Liran and beat him to the watering hole. But he was torn with staying near the experienced reavers in case they saw something interesting. He compromised by quickening his pace. So he was in the lead as Liran came racing back. Calder perked his ears to hear what he was yelling about.

He gaffed at Liran. "Oh yeah great find. I hope that isn't the best you can do." Calder bravely went toward the watering hole, but far enough not to annoy the hippos. As he walked around he thought he saw several lion footprints smudged into the mud. Had someone come through here recently? They did look sort of fresh. He studied the tracks a moment then looked back at his group. "I think we should go that way." He pointed a paw in the direction he thought the tracks went.

(~ Diya: (Angry Hippo Mother) LOL - you guys are not having a good run.
~ Liran (Small Skull) )

Realising that his folly hadn’t gone unnoticed, Diya winced a little but was grateful that Bousvor, while eager to help, had not made too much fuss over the mistake. However, Calder’s snicker rubbed Diya the wrong way, and the older male shot him a dark, warning look. He would not be mocked by the youth, especially on the boy’s first viking. He wouldn’t stand for it.

He rolled his eyes as Liran came charging back, hollering about a hippo. “Calm down,” he said, sharing the amused glance with Bousvor. “It’s just a hippo. Are you a reaver, or are you a coward?” He scoffed, and strode towards the watering hole.

In an effort to side-step Calder and not get too close to the arrogant adolescent, Diya had unknowingly stepped a little too close the mother Hippo’s territory. The same female who had charged Liran before gave a fake charge towards Diya, just a warning. The male startled slightly, having not noticed the mother hippo, but retreated a few paces, to a distance that the hippo seemed more content with.

Sure, he had mocked Liran but he wasn’t about to get killed just to mock the youth.

He glanced at Calder as he made his assertion and raised a brow. “Why do you say that?

Liran hid behind Bousvor and Diya on the way back to the watering hole, sticking close to Bousvor as Diya went trampsing into the hippo’s territory. He snicked a bit as the male got charged.

See! It’s not that I’m a coward, that mama is NOT happy,” he tried to defend himself, shooting Calder a sulky look as the male taunted him. “Oh yeah? Well what have you found? Nothing? Yeah, that’s right. I at least found the watering hole first!” That was an achievement, and he didn’t care what Calder thought about it. He was awesome and there wasn’t nothing the adolescent could say to convince him otherwise.

He moved out from behind Bousvor, purposefully going in the opposite direction to where Calder had suggested. The skull was sticking partially out of the ground, buried in the muddy dirt around the water. Ha! He nosed his way into the sand, flicking the dirt out of the way and revealing a rather nice looking vulture skull. He grinned, wiggling until it sat atop his head – looking disproportionately small against the lion’s own skull.

Look! I’m a bird!” He grinned.

Calder you may not roll another 6. Angry Hippos and Hungry Crocs Oh My! This group is hilarious. I apologize for all the quotes! XD

First Dice- Bousvor (4- hungry croc)
Second Dice- Calder (8- feathers)

He knew mistakes happen and wasn't going to comment on it. Bousvor watched the surrounding area and determined the best path. That mother was not to trifle with. As both Liran and Diya discovered. A mother was a mother no matter the specie. The four of them could probably take her down if they tried; he wasn't going to leave her young helpless though. With a nod, Bousvor indicated they should move way from the hippo and leave her in peace.

"To have iron in one's blood doesn't mean to die." He said softly. It was better to move away then stand and become hurt. Hopefully it would sooth both Diya and Liran. After checking the section of river for more hippos and finding it empty, he moved to the edge to get a drink. Just as he finished he looked up to see an odd shape in the water. Bousvor stared at it a moment. Then the large lion leaped to his feet and scampered back up the bank. A large and hungry croc had lunged out of the water and thankfully snapped its jaws on empty air.

"Perhaps it is wise to move on," Bousvor said sheepishly. This part of the river did not seem good for them. Diya drew his attention to Calder. It was clear the youngster was standing by something.

Calder smirked back at the older lion for his glare. Not in the least bit repentant. He turned his superior look to the purple male. "Actually, Diya knew of it before you did. So you didn't really find anything." The green male watched as Liran went in another direction and came up with a puny bird skull. "Bird brained more like!" He taunted with a laugh. Bousvor's sudden leap startled him. It was an awesome move for the big lion. His eyes went wide at the sight of the croc. Oh.

Now he puffed out his chest as Diya inquired to his suggestion. "I saw a sign awhile back, and there's footprints here in the mud. They go that way." His smirk fully back on his face as he looked at Liran again. "A thrall would be much better than your puny skull." Determined to follow the tracks he started walking. Even if he had to do it by himself he was gonna capture that thrall! A bird went fluttering overhead. Calder saw his chance and leaped up. The bird got away squawking madly, but alive as Calder held up a paw-ful of feathers.

Diya 2 - Large Skull
Liran 7 - Small Skull
Creepy roll.

Diya had decided he didn’t like Liran or Calder. Both of them were irritating beyond belief. Bousvor was not bad. He could live. However Diya was honestly contemplating shoving one of the two youths into the water with the crocs and angry hippos. They were slowly driving him crazy.

Ohyeah?” Diya scoffed. “It’s your first viking, I doubt you’ll even be able to find a thrall, let alone capture one!” There was no way that Calder would find and capture a thrall. No way. There was not even the smallest chance. As such, Diya didn’t follow Calder as he began to walk away, instead he rolled his eyes and moved around the watering hole, stumbling upon a skull buried in the dirt. It was larger, perhaps an antelope or some form of hooved creature, and he smirked, digging it out quickly.

It wasn’t a thrall, but at least it was real, unlike Calder’s fake signals.

Liran took Bousvor’s words to heart and nodded, moving away from the water’s edge. “I didn’t realise water was so dangerous,” Liran mused to himself more than anyone as he stared at the shapes moving in the water. Crocodiles that would feast on them, or Hippos who would chase them down. Both terrifying.

He moved to follow Calder though, bouncing on his paws. “Yeah! Let’s go find a thrall!” he cheered, but tripped over something in the sand. He landed with an oomph, only to glance back at what had tripped him. Not only had he tripped, but he tripped over what appeared to be a bird skull peeking from behind a rock. Wow, he had been felled by a dead bird. How embarrassing.

He flushed. He was not doing well this viking. It’s a good thing his brother wasn’t here to see it…He collected the small skull though, perhaps he could trade it with some of the Vikings for something better.

Well when you're undead then we can conti lol.

It was a good thing he was unware of Diya's inclinations toward the youngsters. Bousvor flicked his ear at the other reaver's scoff. He felt the other was dismissing the boys before even giving them a chance. This was after all their time to prove themselves as reavers. "All youths are taught to track. Lets see if Calder has learned his lessons well or poorly." If there was a chance they could capture a thrall it would look good on all of them, but mostly Calder for finding the initial signs.

When Diya started walking in another direction, Bousvor sighed to himself. Someone, adult, needed to keep an eye on the youngster. Though he debated joining Diya when Liran also followed Calder. He thought Liran must have been very sheltered not to know about common water path dangers. Oh well he was learning now. Bousvor wondered if they'd be able to capture anything alive at this rate, as he saw Liran trip.

Calder was pleased the tawny lion joined his group, although he was less pleased that Liran did too. "Shut up!" He hissed and lashed his tail at the purple male. "Remember this is my thrall! You're just helping." Calder tossed his head to throw his braid over his shoulder to show his importance. The young male rolled his eyes. At least Liran found something when he fell.

Alert now, he crept forward eyes scanning. Where was the lion that had left the tracks? He followed the trail of partial prints, a scuff here, some broken grass stems there. Whoever it was they weren't trying to hide. It seemed to take forever, but probably wasn't more than half an hour. "There they are!" Calder let out a war cry as he charged the unsuspecting lion.

User ImageJini was lying on the bank of the river, just out of sight of the viking group, and had been the entire time. He was stretched leisurely, unconcerned by the noise coming from those talking nearby. He had heard their discussions but wasn’t concerned. No one would do him any harm, after all he was harmless. And delightful.

User ImageSitting a little further down, just out of earshot from the group and so she hadn’t really become concerned either, Nuru had already dismissed Jini as a non-threat. The blue and white male was very cheerful and had attempted to hit on her when she had first arrived at the watering hole, but she had shut him down rather quickly. A raised brow and a firm but sweet ‘not in a million years’ was enough to shoot him down, with a quick, ‘but any girl would be lucky to have you’ followed to as not destroy his ego. He seemed comforted by the words, but Nuru had simply rolled her eyes as he walked back to his spot.

People were simple sometimes, she mused.

Her thoughts were quickly shattered by the arrival of Calder however.

Jini squeaked at the war cry, and dropped to the ground, wide eyes.

“DON’T EAT ME!” he called out, a weird flashback to being an orphan cub left alone. He had only recently left his ‘father’s side to explore on his own, and the instincts of panic were still strong. He dind’t even take into consideration that he was bigger than the adolescent who was currently threatening him.

Liran had followed behind Calder, releasing his own war cry but stumbling as he did so, looking very unthreatening and just generally awkward. He tried to shrug it off though, and watched wide-eyed as Calder actually charged at a rogue. Woah, he was actually going to capture a thrall on his first viking? Liran was jealous but he cheered him on.

“Yeah! Go Calder!”

Diya had followed Calder, but with less enthusiasm than Liran, rolling his eyes at the males cheerfulness. Ugh, they were annoying…but his attention was soon captured by the fact that Liran called out ‘go Calder’ – there’s no way…he couldn’t possibly have found…not a thrall…

"This is no way he gets a thrall first go," Diya snarled and stalked after him, staring as Calder approached a cowering rogue.

Bousvor trailed back and watched. Liran was useless, he noted, and Calder was doing all the tracking. Well at least Liran was showing moral support. He tried not to laugh. The exuberance of youth. He was surprised by the green lion's sudden charge onto the bank of the river. Bousvor hurried a few steps and found himself chuckling as he saw the scene. Calder's tracking skills were definitely something. The young lion had missed the signs he himself had missed. He moved around to the other side to prevent any attempt at running away; although by his reaction Bousvor doubted that was going to be a problem. He had a silent chuckle at Diya's denial.

He was pleased with the lion's immediate capitulation to his dominance. Calder puffed out his chest and gave an intimidating growl at the lion to be sure his was cowed. "Don't you dare move! I here by claim you as my Thrall!" The young lion flexed his claws into the ground in his eagerness. He glanced around at the other members of his band and gave a big toothy grin. "I found the signs, I tracked him, so he's mine!"

Jini was nothing if not obedient when he was terrified. He stared, wide eyed up at the adolescent, feeling very much like a cub on his own once again. Oooh, he should have stayed with Papa Buziba! He groaned to himself but wisely didn't move.

There were more than one stranger as well. Three other males appeared, and Jini knew he would never be able to take them all on. He was a 'thrall' or whatever it was that the adolescent had said. Oh what had he done...

Nuru had slunk back at the noise approaching from the males, stepping back out of view to watch. The pale male with blue markings was, as she had expected, not very good at standing up for himself. She watched the group, eyeing the power dynamics. Ah, so it was a struggle for power.

The adolescent was proving himself. The purple lion was obviously useless. The dark blue and the brown lion seemed more confident. Interesting.

Well, if he wanted a trophy, the adolescent surely wouldn't be too picky.

She straightened her posture, firming her resolve, she moved forward. She strode to meet them, her pose non-threatening but bold.

"Excuse me, brave sir," she said softly, her words carefully chosen. Nuru wasn't an idiot, she was just foolish when it came to others. "I beg you, take me instead. This male is clearly not worthy of your time."

The male had better appreciate her sacrifice, Nuru sulked to herself. Her parents had told her she had too soft a heart once, but was there such a thing? She only wanted to help others.

Liran watched the drama unfold like it was a soap opera, his eyes wide and delighted. Oh wow, was Calder going to get a female thrall instead? Lucky! He would always have a girl willing to talk to him then. Liran sulked. Oh, he wanted to impress Vittorio and get a thrall but it looked like Calder would.

Still, "great job, Calder!" He encouraged, as he was nothing if not encouraging.

Diya scowled at the scene before them, before smirking and stepping forward. He addressed Calder. "You know, if you don't want one, I'll take one of your paws," he murmured with a smirk. "I mean, I can't imagine an adolescent would be particularly good at handing two thralls. Give it a while - once your mane actually grows in."

Fin!

Bousvor was startled when a lioness stepped out of hiding. He had kept his eye on the male, but relaxed as the male didn't fight and obeyed Calder. The female could easily have escaped under the radar and kept her freedom. He wondered why she chose to reveal herself.

When Diya started talking, Bousvor almost stepped in and said something. Instead he shook his head and let it play out. Either way they had a thrall if Calder did choose to let the male go. It wasn't meant to be however.

While the emergance of the female was surprising, he managed to keep face by not letting his jaw drop. Instead he puffed out his chest when she called him a brave sir. That's right! He was totally better than the other lions here. Unfortunately for her, he saw a better solution than what she suggested. Diya's dig at his pride only fueled it further.

"Ppffffft! I got more iron in my blood than that Diya! Just you watch! I claim them both as my thralls!" He glared around to make sure Bousvor and Liran didn't object. He'd show them! "C'mon you two! We're going home." Calder circled around and herded Nuru toward Jini.
