Ew.

Shula hated mud. Despised it with every fiber of her being. The summer months had brought with them storms and with the storms came nothing but rain. With rain, the ground softened it most of the pride areas safe for the main area which she could walk in with no fear of sinking knee-deep into mud and gunk.

But, today Shula was bored. Very, incredibly, so horribly bored that she decided to brave the muddy ground and go on an adventure! That idea lasted a whole five minutes before she realized how stupid it was.

Now, the bright colored lioness was stuck on the only not-muddy spot she had found since her trek began a few short minutes earlier. Cleaning her paws was one thing. Cleaning them when they were muddy? That was another.

"Gross!" She spat out another pile of the yucky mud onto the ground. Note to self = adventures suck.

Shula wasn't the only one who was frustrated with the state of the ground.

Kweli had enjoyed the storms and the rain, and though she wasn't thoroughly disgusted with mud, she wasn't overjoyed either. It was more the frustration of constantly losing her footing in the muck and slipping and sliding. It was even worse when she appeared to sink into it and had to pull herself out with an almighty squelch.

Her bi-coloured eyes spotted a familiar figure in the distance and she giggled as she knew exactly what was happening. Her sister appeared to have found more solid ground. The red lioness braced herself as she tried to make her way across the mud quickly, squelching all the way. "Ugh." She wriggled her body this way and that, and moved her paws quickly, jumping up to greet her sister.

"It's a pain, isn't it?!"

]"It's horrible!" Shula wasn't hesitant to share her opinion on the matter. "I don't know how anyone can walk through it!" She shook her head with distaste. Mud was horrible, rain was alright but the mud rain made. Ugh. It was so gross!

"Were you bored too?" Shula asked her sister, attempting to divert from the subject of disgusting mud. "I was looking for something to do." She sighed with self disappointment and frustration. "The mud just gets in the way. Can't go anywhere, can't do anything!" Except for being stuck. Like poor Kweli looked to be before getting to Shula's dry patch.

"Ugly weather." She decided to name it.

It is ugly weather! She exclaimed. It seemed more rainy than usual, she had to admit, though being an adolescent, she hadn't much experienced the storms and changing seasons of the pridal lands. Kweli pressed in a little closer to the dry land.

"There's a little bit more dry land closer to the heart of the pride..." She offered. Eyeing up the mud around them though, she did not fancy making the trek through the thick piles of muck to get to it.

"But that involves a lot of squelching." She pulled a face.

"Yeah, I was a little bored, and decided I'd try to find one of you." By "you" she meant her sisters.

"What are we going to do now?" She stared out blankly at the mud.

Shula nodded at Kweli when she had stuck out to go and search for the other sisters they shared. That probably would have been more fun now that the young lioness thought of it. But now she was just in the middle of gross mud and... Ugh. She stared at the brownish pits for a few moments, hesitant in her decision.

"Let's go back." She finally decided. By back she meant to the driest part of the pride where she wouldn't have to deal with mud anymore. However that involved crossing existing mud and Shula wasn't certain she was really up for that after having just licked some of the guck off her pretty fur. But reality sucked and with it came the ultimate conclusion that they would eventually have to go back anyways. Why not just get a head start?

"We'll just have to find the most dry spots." She pointed out with an disappointed tone. Few were the patches of no mud around here. "Unless you have a better idea?" She prayed silently that Kweli did.

"Nope." Kweli looked disdainfully at her sister. There was really no genius was of getting themselves out of this mess and successfully on to dry land - Shula's idea was the best they had.

They couldn't stand there all day, Kweli wondered why they'd actually ended up there in the first place, come to think of it. Probably just trying to look for adventure.

"Right, well..." The female paused. She might as well try and make it fun. "I tell you what then, I'll race you." She grinned at her sister.

Shula grinned back.

"You're on!" She called and began to plow through the mud.

Ew! Ew! She had much distaste for the grimy substance, but Kweli had challenged her and in all honesty Shula wasn't about to back down from such a thing. Challenges after all, were adventures all on their own.

Finding her footing on a dry patch Shula stopped for a moment and looked with disgust at her fur. "Ew. Ew. EW." She began to voice her previously silent opinion of the ground and all it's filthy glory.
