The days had been sweltering, mixed with the mugginess of heavy clouds that would loom ominously above the lands. Storms would brew and clash from time to time, bringing forth rain and and nourishment to those below. But it was not a settling rain, no, these storms could bring forth greater damage that would render some to be troubled. Luckily, the days of late had been relatively calm, with thick clouds clustering in the sky and drifting about lazily. A thick breeze swooped about from time to time, giving no sense of comfort or refreshment to those who were under the suns unyielding rays.
Nyreen kept to her usual path, her usual ritual. Traveling was a necessity, but she would not dare stray too far from familiarity. Having found some solace in the area she'd chosen to reside in, the mare wasn't going to leave it. Stability was something she needed... but something that always seemed far out of her grasp. There were always those encounters with others that made her feel uneasy and the need to run gripped at her stomach and throat. But thankfully... no one ever came back. She was grateful, but deep down, internally... the mare was so terribly lonely.
Under the shade of the dense forest, Nyreen grazed peacefully upon some lush greens on the carpeted woods, munching on them leisurely. She'd already checked the area before entering from the meadow, on her way to find the usual stream tucked further in. But with all the vegetation around her, Nyreen felt safer, and was able to eat in a more calmer nature than usual.

The weather was taunting the land. One moment it seemed as if the clouds would finally explode, and rain would drizzle here and there, but it would stop as quickly as it started. The clouds would gather once more just before the sun light exploded across the land. Still, the air remained thick with the scent of rain and heat, which caused the kalona to feel drowsy. He felt as if rocks were tied to his legs and eyelids, but he continued to press forward through the maze of trees. It was times like this he cursed his wings and nocturnal nature.
Food has become somewhat scarce within his group’s territory, so he, along with another, was forced out in search of potential prey. His stomach was growing empty while his mind started to grow foggy. A lone rabbit hung from his mouth as he tiredly crunched away at it. The meager meal wasn’t something he was happy about. It was no deer or fox. It wasn’t even a real meal. However, it would have to do until he found the energy to hunt once more, and until his leg could heal.
Tired, the kalona carefully set himself down by one of the many trees along the unknown mazes. Grunting to himself, his eyes settled upon the bleeding wound on his right knee. His hunger got the best of him, and he was foolish enough to let his guard down while attempting to take down a buck. He paid the price and ended up with a wound and a snack that won’t even hold his hunger for an hour. How pathetic.

The grass was more lush and plump from all the rain water it'd been fed this start of summer, That meant it grew faster and lasted longer than any other time of the year! berries were in season too, as well as some other fruiting plants that the mare would find and take note of on her way to and fro the usual route she traveled. This also meant that there were herbs and other plants that would be useful should she get injured or sick. Being alone all her life, and having to learn how to survive on her own, the mare had picked up on some knowledge of the plants from both already known knowledge, and experience. This too meant she knew what to avoid as well, as most creatures knew instinctually.
With her stomach growing full slowly but surely, she felt the desire to try and seek out those delicious plump fruits. With the feeling that she was the only horse in the forest, Nyreen didn't have too much stress on running into someone else. Typically... no one else did go this far out. It was a rather annoying part to venture into, hard for those with wings, and those who were large to maneuver around in. And especially with how tall and how close the trees were, anyone could get lost should they be new to the area. Stepping away from where she'd been grazing, her painted pelt could be seen shifting through the tree trunks, moving onwards to seek out those yummy treats. However... her pleasantries were stopped short. A breeze trickled through the heavy canopy's above, and brought forth aroma's. Scents.... one's she knew, and a particular one that was completely foreign to her. But not entirely... it was one she'd never encountered before, but she did know that it was another horses. Instantly her ears pinned back, and her steps stopped right in their tracks. Blue eyes scanned her surroundings nervously, head lowering some too to hide it behind some brush. It was too hard to tell the exact location it was from, or if it were even in the forest itself! but she could follow the direction of the wind to see for herself.
And that's what she did. Slowly, she crept, hooves placing carefully, trying to be as silent and quiet as possible. But then there... just past the tree's ahead of her, was a massive dark figure. Her eyes widen and her breath caught in her throat as she registered what she was looking at. Another soquili... and as she looked at him more, she noticed his traits.. those wings.... that tail... those... horns... a kalona... slightly petrified, it took that splash of red to snap her attention back into action. Blood... was.. he bleeding..?
