The power company just called to say that the New Orleans area may be without power for 3 to 5 days. All the schools are closed, airline flights are canceled. Everyone is being urged to stay indoors. The store shelves are emptied of canned goods, milk, bread. People are talking of evacuating. Last ditch efforts are being made to defend a few key bridges.

What is the cause of this dire situation? The possibility of a full inch of snow.

seriously the town here finally just started shutting down because of temperatures that feel like -30F, and we still have power and everything, there are still people out driving, some still working, etc.

So far we have gotten enough snow to make a few snowballs from the snow on vehicles. No real accumulation on the ground.
