This particular herd is no exception, and some of their most valued kalona are known for their healing abilities. . .

This Kalona Mares Name Ursula Phara
Temper Blunt
Personality: Ursula is very blunt in how she tells others things. Instead of wasting time beating around the bush she would rather tell them outright how bad things are. Patience is a thing which comes and goes with her as she would rather go about her business without having to go about with the small talk which would only take up her time. And time is ever of the essence with her. Determined to do the best of her abilities she doesn't take any injury lightly. Fiercely loyal to her herd she doesn't bat an eye when she is called upon to go take someone away from the fray of battle so she can attend to their wounds. Death is no stranger to her as she has come to accept that there are some wounds which will cause the death of another even though she has tried her best.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? Ursula at first was like any other Kalona in the herd. Thirsty for the sight of blood, looking for a fight so she can watch as another's lifeforce drained from their body. She has always had a fascination with blood. When she was old enough to fight with the rest she was ecstatic! Finally her chance to fight. To be the cause of such bloodshed. Yet when she stood over the pummeled and bloody body of her first kill all she felt was horror at what she done. Her eyes watched the blood flow from the body pooling around. The earth drank at the red substance hungrily taking it deep inside as if to go into the very core of the ground.

She didn't like the feeling which came over her. It was in that moment that she realized that she didn't want to kill others to quench her thirst for blood. Yet she felt conflicted about whether she could be a healer at first. When the battle was over and after more lives were lost by her hooves her decision became clear. To appease her thirst for the sight of blood she will become a healer. She didn't ever want to feel the horror and hatred she felt towards herself for killing another again.

Her feet took her back towards her first kill. Over the dead stallion's body did she vow to do her best to become a skilled healer and to try her best to never feel these two emotions again. Lowering her head she moves to walk to where the others are gathered and towards a new chapter of her life.

When enough time has passed where the carrion have eaten the meat off the enemies bones Ursula makes her way back to where the stallion fell. Bones are everywhere, bleached by the sun's rays. Stopping in the spot which she stood before she looks at the stallions skull.lifting her front leg she smashes her hoof down to disconnect the lower jaw from the skull. She nudges the top part of the skull towards a nearby tree and maneuvers her head till the stallion's skull lies upon her head. Her eyes look through the sockets where his eyes would have been. The weight is something which she isn't used to but she is determined to get used to it. For now until the day she dies will she wear the stallions skull. A reminder of that day many moon rotations ago. Of everything she has gone through and how she felt. And a constant reminder to fulfill her vow.

This Kalona Mares Name Aza
Temper Patient
Personality: Aza is a strong-willed mare. She will take a stand in what she believes in, but also take the time to listen to one's opinions. Just because she is a kalona does not mean that she's into bloodshed since she was recently apprenticed into the healing field under the guidance of a fellow unicorn. She is determined, striving to never give up, and is pretty content with life. She believes that beauty is found within every creature as long as they just believe. Aza is loyal to her herd and to any acquaintance that she has befriended.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?
When she was a foal, Aza hated her appearance of milky-white skin, a sooty black mane, and blood red lips. She was adopted into a kalona family of browns and tans, clearly different from the rest. Every day she would try to obtain a darker coating, and one day she did, meeting a fellow Kawani who promised her beauty. Instead of the beautiful browns and tans that she desired, she was granted a horrid coal, causing her to believe that she was meant to be ugly for the rest of her life. She knew something was wrong with her, and so she left the herd for a while, on a journey to find out who she was destined to be.

While she was gone, she met a fellow unicorn whom she befriended, and with the guidance of the unicorn, Aza's thirst for blood began to die off as she cried for saving lives. So for the next few moons, the two bonded with one another, learning of each other's ways. Though she did not possess an alicorn, Aza learned the power of herbs and belief. In return, Aza assisted the unicorn with battle training, for the unicorn spoke about a great battle coming one day, wanting to be prepared.

Once the two "excelled" in their newly found talents, Aza headed home, back to the herd and parted ways with the unicorn, hoping that they will someday meet once again. From that journey, she learned that beauty existed in everything, where you'd just have to believe. She believed that she could give up her ways of bloodshed, and entered the passion for healing, so why shouldn't she believe that she was now beautiful?

This Kalona Mares Name Dakara
Temper Creative
Personality: When Dakara heals, she doesn't heal in the conventional sense. No, no no no, Dakara is an artist. She enjoys toying and testing her skills on others, weaving bone and flesh into patterns and shapes for her own personal amusement. She's calm about it too, finding it to be art when a victim of her 'tender care' is able to live...

Of course she can heal conventionally, but why should she? Why deny her art for the plainness of daily work? Dakara knows not. However she can heal... Normally. She isn't the kindest Kalona, by fa; she isn't psychotic when she isn't healing/performing art either. She simply is a calm, go with the flow sort easily swept into groups or herds and she can't fully care. Kalona, lessers, they're all unique. All different.

Of course, if they would like to look more attractive...
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? Dakara is... Drawn by blood, bone, and tissue. She enjoys seeing the way creatures work and finding out how to make them work better. Look more... Attractive. Of course, there is failure-- but perhaps she was drawn in by the Carrion she found as a foal. Perhaps watching the sick and dying-- at least, those are the thwories.

No, Dakara's insanity is far shallower than that. Dakara seeks to heal because it's fun. Except healing normally, of course, but who's to say she can't play with other Soquili on the side...

This Kalona Mares Name Vejovis
Temper Selfless
Personality: Vejovis lives and breathes for the sake of helping her kind. She is constantly seeking other Kalona who need her aid, even those being from other herds. She knows how important it is to keep her kind strong and abundant in the land. She is constantly exploring and learning new healing techniques to keep her mind sharp. What keeps her pushing forward in life is her next specimen to aid, and when successful she knows she is in her just path of life. Even in times when illness or injury are so damaging that she can not heal, she sacrifices as much of herself to save what she can. She does not keep herself as healthy as she demands of others, only because her devotion exceeds her own commitment to her body. She knows this path did not happen just as a skill. She has accepted her destiny and is serious in keeping her path only for the sake of other Kalona's survival.

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? She was lucky to be raised in a herd with an Elder known for their amazing healing abilities. Vejovis used to think the great Elder was using magic when Kalona who looked dead to her resumed their life shortly after. At first it was her own youthful obsession that had her watch the Elder every single day. The Elder seemed to enjoy her company, and would show her critical body spots and how to resolve certain diseases. There was one day when the Elder was brought too many Kalona after a brutal attack, and the Elder asked Vejovis to lend her her strength. It was then it all came so naturally, and everything she had watched her Elder do, she was doing in instinct. They saved many lives together that day, and Vejovis knew this was her calling. For the lives they did not save, she felt a heartbreak she had never felt before. Her Elder guided her to overcome those emotions for good reason, and learn not to feel that way for the sake of their duty. Vejovis learned it would only weaken her when others needed her. She lived and trained with her Elder until one fateful day when the Elder grew very ill. Vejovis did everything she had been taught, but could not heal her at all. Vejovis knew it was her time, but was having a hard time accepting fate. The Elder on the other hand, knew her destiny had come, and her skills had been passed. Her great Elder used their final words of advice to share with Vejovis, 'live and breath only for the beat of another's heart to continue flowing, nothing else'. As hard as it was to still accept and watch her mentor pass so boldly, Vejovis knew it was now her time to sacrifice everything she was for the sake of her healing powers, and stay committed to the well-being of her kind. Her Elder is the last she knew she could truly feel attached to in that regard, but she is proud knowing that, and her path grew stronger living and healing that way just as the Elder had taught her.

This Kalona Mares Name
Aosoth
Dark female force in the pantheon of the Order of the Nine Angles. Works of passion and death. The name should be vibrated.
Temper
Antagonistic
Personality:
Aosoth has a rough bedside manner. She knows her potions, herbs, and medical skills and won’t allow for time to be wasted. Nor will she harbor whiners, complainers, and attitude from her patients. She’s very much a quick, get to the root of the problem and get it fixed as quickly as possible. That said, she does go softer on the younger ones, somewhat. She doesn’t like showing her softer side during these times and while she does care, she’s not afraid to tell them to suck it up buttercup and get back out there. Her role as a healer is taken very seriously, and doesn’t like getting interrupted when she’s in the process of healing one of her patients. Unless it’s some sort of emergency that requires her complete and utter immediate attention. She’s not the one to differentiate between superiors and subordinates. A patient is a patient regardless of status, and she’ll be damned if someone gets in her way of healing a more injured patient due to status within the herd. If anyone dare says otherwise be prepared for a quick verbal beatdown.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?
Aosoth is a bit older than the rest of her herd. She’s been around awhile. Traveled to many places, and learned the tricks and the trade of multiple medical practices. Growing up, her family didn’t harbor any intrinsic value to hating lesser soquili. They were food for certain, but they weren’t hated. Both her mother and father were traditional healers, and in fact spent some time in the company of a pure unicorn healer herd. To that end, Aosoth was sent to live with them for a time as well.

There she learned the ways of being a healer herself, at first, taking value in the herb portion of healing (as the unicorns lived in a hollow meadow within a dead volcano.) When she was a young teenage mare she met one of the oldest unicorns, and that unicorn taught her the art of neutrality. That life and death are a complex combination to which one cannot exist without the other. Following her parent’s footsteps, and even taking it further, she made a vow within the volcanic temple of healers upon reaching maturity to not allow blood to dictate who she heals. She stayed within the temple walls for three days meditating on this decision before returning, taking the mask of death and the feathers of life from the alter of fire.

After returning to her family for a fortnight she left in search of those who would need her services. Lesser soquili never came near her, and really, she didn’t mind, given her pureblood kalona status. And when she came to the Great Kalona leader she was met with cautious acceptance. Knowing that they needed healers, and seeing that the current healers within the herd could use some help, Aosoth made the decision to stay and teach. For the motto of life and death co-existing with one another overcomes any personal ideals she may have about situations. She was there to heal, not to deal with politics.

This Kalona Mares Name Kaleema
Temper Resilient
Personality: She is strong, but not in the traditional sense... which makes her a bit of an anomaly amongst the great kalona herd. But where she might otherwise be considered a liability of not outright useless and better off dead, she has skills which are needed and well utilized by the herd.

not bloodthirsty, or even one who enjoys battle and bloodlust she has what might be termed, in her own kalona way, compassion. She does her best to patch up the wounded, and when they are beyond her skill and there is no other option, grants them the mercy of a quick clean death.

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? It was not a conscious decision. Rather it was become a healer or death. Not much of a choice really...

She was born small and weak. The herd elders told her parents to leave her out for some predator to kill. It would be better for the herd, and kinder to the foal. So her parents left her.

But against all odds, she survived and found her way back to the herd. Earning through this show of courage and strength that she at least deserved a chance. And it was one she took happily. Throwing herself into training and trying to prove her worth. But she wasn't a warrior, that much was obvious.

So, being smaller it was thought that perhaps she might make a good scout, or spy. And truly in this arena she excelled. Until one mission that went wrong. It was supposed to be a simple straightforward slip into the territory, get the information and get out. But one screw up lead to another, and her eye was injured. Her partner returned to the herd, and she was grounded. The eye injury got infected and by the time she managed to locate a lesser (and swallow her pride enough to ask for help) the only way she could survive was to lose the eye.

And so she fell into the role of healer, which she found suited her even better than that of scout. She had found her place. And she fought like hell to stay there. And the great kalona herd became better, stronger for her choice.

This Kalona Mares Name
Chernaya ◇ “Black” in Russian

Temper
Silent

Personality:
Chernaya is a quiet healer. She is solely focused upon her work and bettering her healing abilities. The only times she will speak to others is when she snaps at anyone that interrupts her during her studies or when she's caring for a patient.

When she's not healing, Naya tends to keep to herself and not allow others to become close to her. She knows how fragile life is, as she holds it within her hooves almost every day. Getting close to someone means most likely losing them, and after her mate passed, she is not keen on feeling that way again.

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?
Chernaya started out as a warrior within the herd, but she was not very good at it. More fragile than her herdmates, she often relied on her mate for protection - until a battle stole him from her. After failing to save her former love during the battle, she was driven to the healing path, and traded fighting others to the death, for fighting death for others.

This Kalona Mares Name Vera (Aloe Vera)
Temper Studious
Personality:

Vera is a bright one, always spending her days testing out new healing solutions. Due to her heavy research on the herbs she tends to fall back when it comes to fighting since she’d rather use her knowledge of healing for her herd. That does not make her soft though she is willing to kill. When it comes to social events she usually keeps things at a professional level. Vera soon would like to start teaching those who’d like to know the arts of healing

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?

Vera during her younger years watched helplessly as her sister slowly dying from a fatal wound. After losing both her parents she really did not want to lose her sister as well. She was the only family she had left since the rest of her family broke apart years before she was born. Vera sought out guidance from an old healer in the herd. The old healer gave advice on a certain herb that grew deep in the woods that could possibly slow down the infection which could prolong her sister’s life.

Since the old healer could not leave the herd to get the necessary ingredient Vera ventured out to retrieve it. She walked two days straight never stopping for a break for she knew she had little time to save her sister. When she came across the herb she had to fight for it because something of more dangerous nature then her-self lurked in the woods. Those nasty skinwalkers, always acting murderous and top of the food chain! She was lucky to sneak through to retrieve the herb and make her way back to the old healer.

Finally, the remedy was prepared but she was too late. Her sister was past the point of saving and her withering pained expression engraved in her mind. She stayed by her sisters side until she past it was the longest cold night she’d ever deal with in her life. If only she had known about the remedy she could had saved her….

So Vera vowed after her sister’s death that she would gain all the knowledge of healing in order to help her fellow race.

This Kalona Mares Name Moncerrath (Cerra for short)
Temper Systematic
Personality: Moncerrath is methodical and practical. She believes in rules and systems. She is often very focused and quiet, and can be taken as moody because she rarely speaks except to grunt to indicate a certain herb she needs. But she knows what she's doing and she does it well. She prefers to work alone in her healing but can work with others during more drastic times such as the current invasion.

When she isn't working she prefers solitude among her herbs and medications, time to make sure everything is in order and time to relax. She dislikes her solitude being interrupted for anything but someone in extreme need, and she can lash out when she is bothered for simple things. In times like these she must heal her own victims, and that's only when she is feeling merciful. But it gives her time to practice and practice makes perfect, which she strives for.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?

Straight stitches, a perfectly cleaned wound, well applied herbs. It didn't matter if they felt better, because she did.

There was too much chaos in this world, too much talking and killing, not enough thinking. Too many imbeciles running around with fangs in their mouths and bloodlust on their minds. No one else wanted to stop to do things the right way. It was her job to guide them, her job to patch up the wounds.

But sometimes she made the wounds herself. Sometimes she was the idiot with the fangs, and that pissed her off. So she had to fix it. Most of the time she had to or she would come apart at the seams. Those she had let go hung on her conscience, so she took new customers to repay those debts. Those were the rules. Her rules. The balance could not be upset, and she often risked offsetting it with her temper. She had to fix it to achieve perfection. Her work was perfection and through it she would thrive.

Her first healing experience was messy, disgusting. She hated to think of it now. But often in her solitude it surfaced in her mind. She was young, a few months out of the basket and already beginning to experiment with different plants and flowers. One of the prideful Kalona colts had taken it upon himself to be a little nasty and disturb her organization with a dirty hoof. This could not be tolerated. Dirty herbs were against the rules. Someone had to be punished. With a snap of her jaws his leg was broken. The bones were soft as he too was fresh out of the basket. Reality came flooding back to her as blood came pouring out of his leg along with screams from his mouth. She had punished the wrong person. She should have been more careful with her herbs. She quickly sopped up the bleeding with fresh plants, and made a crude splint out of tree branches and long grass. And then the snotty thing was on his way and the balance was reset. But now that she knew what she was capable of, she had to teach herself to correct for it. So she gave herself more rules, and she taught herself to be a healer.

A dose of medicine, perfectly constructed splints, bones put back into line. It didn't matter if they felt better, because she did.

This Kalona Mares Name Akhlys Moirai "Sunnayi Edani"
Temper Obscure
Personality:
She is quite volatile; her personality fluctuates from amiable to murderous. It is unknown as to what causes these severe changes in her mood, but those who come to her for healing remedies know that they should approach at their own risk, for she may promise a cure when it is really a poison she is trading. Since birth she had been trained to “hear” or “see” the signs of the spirits or gods by messages given to her by nature, be it the wing of a butterfly in front of her den, or moss growing the wrong direction upon a rock’s surface, she interprets these signs and speaks for the gods. Many are afraid of her ability to observe the minute changes of the world and fear that she will predict their death(s). They have heard rumors that if they come to her, they must not give their true name, for names have power and to give that to her would potentially make them vulnerable to her will.

She is known by many names: Bruja, Kalona Ayeliski, Sunnayi Edahi, Destroyer, Healer, and many more. She prefers to be known as Sunnayi Edani or the Night Goer; her true name is only given to a select few who have earned her trust.

In the beginning when she first started to poison those who the signs pointed against, she would feel deep guilt and remorse. After years of listening to the signs, she finally broke and became an emotionally unstable mare. She is bright and understands everything that happens around her, but becomes distant at unexpected times.

Many had believed her to be a myth, a legend, a fairy tale and she was starting to believe it as well until word came to her about the battles her comrades were fighting. She left her sequestered home in the mountains to heal the wounded and aid the superior Kalona race. Usually she does not particularly care who she treats as long as the soquili brings tribute to her, but the battles brought out her racist values and she became determined to poison all of those who stood in the way of success. Perhaps her reputation was known, for none that come to her for healing suffered death by her hooves.

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?
It was a great honor to participate in the arduous tasks that would determine if one was worthy to be the voice of the gods and to interpret their will. The Moirai family had been the Spirit Speakers for generations, the prodigious title passing on to son or daughter once they showed the skill and dedication necessary to become the clan’s healer. Out of her five siblings, she was chosen, she alone had the blessings of the spirits and the skills necessary to interpret the signs they gave.

Being chosen meant she would live in isolation for a year as she learned about the world around her; the only company she received was her mother and that was to test the extent of the knowledge gained during her seclusion. Akhlys became fascinated with the properties of the plants; simple herbs when combined with each other could cure an illness or could stop the bleeding of a wound.

Although she had promised to be a healer, the darker side of the art fascinated her more than it should have, and soon she began to learn how to create poisons. It was how she became the best, she understood the dark and light side of her craft and only poisoned those the “spirits” told her to kill by a sign of nature. In the beginning the deaths would weigh heavily on her soul, but she continued to follow the path shown to her by the signs of nature, for she was a Spirit Speaker and that is what she did, interpret the will of the gods and do as they bade.

Never give your name, for a name holds power and with power comes control.

This Kalona Mares Name Phaedra
Temper Implacable
Personality: Fairly aloof, Phaedra treats others with the bare minimum of courtesy expected from someone of her station. She sees no ethical problem in going over her patients' heads when it comes to fixing them up, and is often convinced of her own infallibility in that area. More than that, the mare has a bit of a god complex going, in that she can select who lives and who dies when they are given over to her care. While she respects the warrior class of her herd, she often views them as a little mindless, perhaps even stupid for throwing themselves at danger without any regard for themselves as individuals. Self-interest is, after all, a decent motivator, and her abilities as a healer are not given freely, particularly outside the boundaries of her herd. This makes her a bit of an outlier, somewhat unpredictable, but too useful to dispense with entirely. Aware of her status, she makes a point not to mingle except during times of significant conflict, or when her services are in demand.

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? Small-boned and disinterested in competition, Phaedra was never going to amount to much in a herd that celebrated bloodshed to the point of infamy. She was often criticized for her attitude, both by familial and outside acquaintances. As a result, she was often left to her own devices while her fellow foals were trained via the Kalona lifestyle. While she never would have admitted to loneliness, Phaedra found it difficult to befriend those who were so isolated from her own mentality. It was during one solitary excursion that she ended up crossing paths with a half-Kirin in the process of preparing a draught for his very ill familiar. Warily, he explained the situation, and unknowingly planted a seed in the young filly's mind. After personally witnessing the familiar's recovery, Phaedra knew that she was onto something significant. Pulling a creature back from the brink of death, making it better without some haughty unicorn’s intercession, inspired her. Even if she did not fit into the traditional parameters of her herd, she could nonetheless make herself invaluable to them. To be needed, even celebrated for her talents, seemed like a better alternative than her current path. It took some effort, and a great deal of stubbornness on her part, but Phaedra convinced the Kirin to accept her as an apprentice of sorts, if only in secret. Once she had learned the basics of treatment, she began to conduct research on her own time, sometimes purposefully maiming small creatures so that she could put them back together again. Naturally, her mentor was appalled by such behavior, and swore off teaching her any further. While the rejection was nonsensical to her, Phaedra continued to practice and learn, eventually becoming knowledgeable enough to work on her own kind. As an adult, her reputation and her sense of self-worth are now inexorable linked.

This Kalona Mares Name Ta-Bitjet
Temper Tolerant
Personality: She's seen the damage and hell that Kalona can bring, especially having taken care of many of the injured. It's made her incredibly judging towards her own kind, but willing to tolerate not only them but the other horrors the world offers in order to help. In her mind, healing and caring for others comes first. It allows her to look past most of the bloodshed that continues to go on around her.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path? Ta was raised amongst a war and blood-driven herd. When she was young, her parents were very involved with aggressive raids on others and protecting the herd. At the time, she thought this was wonderful! She lusted for violence and eagerly awaited the day she could join her family and the other warriors on the front line.
It was only after she lost both parents and found herself helpless, watching as the rest of the herd refused to offer any assistance in saving them. After that day, she couldn't stomach the idea of watching another in their herd die when they could have easily been saved.

She sought out the knowledge of elder healers from the many warring herds. Ta learned of many herbs and the concoctions she could make from them. She continued to grow up, remaining with her herd and learning more and more with each day. She remained tolerant of their warring ways, as it kept her protected and fed; she in turn was able to provide them with continued strength and life.

Upon her arrival to the Kawani lands, Ta learned there were others not of Kalona blood. Others who shared the same thoughts that she did. She plans to continue to provide support to her herd, waiting to see what happens in this new world.

This Kalona Mares Name Mildryth
Temper Gentle
Personality: Mildryth is a strong Kalona, who has been trained to be very tough in battle. So while she is in the middle of what she considers a noble fight, she will show no outward emotion, unless it is sadness for the death of members of her herd. She is very adapt at healing, knowing every healing technique in the book and plant that can be used for healing. Many look up to her as a head healer, her knowledge so expanse. When not dealing with war, she is very gentle and soft-spoken, wanting to resolve things peacefully. She may have been raised as a warrior, but she thinks some of what her people have been doing is pointless and senseless blood shed. She loves foals and is always keeping an eye out for them, hoping they never have to suffer the death of a loved one.
Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?

Mildryth was a young foal who wanted to be like her parents and the rest of her family, a strong warrior. She would follow her parents everywhere, watching as they battled others and then she would practice with any foals she could. She would even convince her parents to train her, so that she could grow up to be the strongest Kalona she could.

One day, Mildryth had followed her parents, like normal, when they went to deal with some lessers to the east..so they could acquire more land for themselves. She watched from the safety of some bushes, even if every fiber of her being wanted to fight alongside her parents. She knew she was still just a foal, so she wouldn't be able to do so yet, but one day she would get that honor. So she stood there in hiding, watching with bated breath as her father gutted his opponent with his horns. She watched the blood oozing out of the wound and she wanted to cheer. In her mind, her herd was doing what they had to, so this was all what needed to be done.

Everything seemed to be going so well, when she heard a sickening sound of some Uni/Wind hybrid ramming their horn into the side of her mother's flank. She watched her mother try to fight back, before the older mare was on her side, bleeding profusely. She heard a distant cry to retreat from somewhere, but she was only partially conscious of it as she ran to her mother's side. The stream of tears were cascading down her cheeks, nuzzling her mother's side.

"No, you can't die...please Mama,"she begged. She could tell her mother's breathing was labored and she didn't have much time. She noticed movement out of the corner of her eye, it was another mare.

"Give me some room, child, I need to get to work. If you want me to save her, I suggest you do what I tell you,"the older mare commanded. The young foal didn't want to leave her mother's side, but did as she was told. Then she watched anxiously as the mare popped some leaves in her mother's mouth, then got to work on rubbing something on the wound. She was amazed at how confident the elder mare was in her work and how skilled she seemed to be.

About ten minutes later, Mildryth's mother opened her eyes and looked over at her daughter with a smile. The foal gave a whinny of hope, her mother might make it out of this after all. She looked to the healer, asking with her eyes if she could approach again. The elder mare nodded her head, before the foal trotted over and her mother nuzzled her.

A few weeks later, Mildryth's mother was doing a lot better and the foal was grateful to the mare who had saved the life of one of those most precious to her. She wanted to say thank you to the healer and as fate would have it, she got her chance when the healer came to visit. That day, the healer who called herself Dormina offered to take the foal under her wing and trainer her to be a healer, to be her protege. Mildryth gladly accepted with the blessings of her parents, the whole family knowing it was the foal's destiny. It was that day that changed Mildryth's views on this war and how she wanted to be a noble warrior that fought for the right reasons and a healer who can help others.

This Kalona Mares Name Lokapele
Temper hidden
Personality: What's she like? Lokapele has a kind streak the one aspect of her old self that she diligently clings to which helps keep tight control of her desire for blood. She has a strong sense of family honor and keeping up appearance within herd. Intelligent, fierce and determined would all be attributes to describe her personality. Lokapele feels very proud to be a healer but her job keeps her in constant torment as she battles with her own bloodlust and her grip on reality. She wears a mask to hide her facial expression so that no herd member will ever see the look of joy on her face when fresh blood is spilled..

Why is she a healer? What drew her towards this path?

Past History
Lokapele was born into a small subdivision of the kalona tribe. Healers were not at all common within the warring blood crazed kalona tribe. Those who practiced the healing arts were well protected and considered to be treasures of the herd. Several small families who shared the bloodline of the original tribe healer vied for the honor to have their offspring train under the present tribe healer. However potential healers were always watched carefully –healers could not be bound by the usual kalona mentality. They had to remain calm and practically free of blood lust. Lokapele as a foal showed intellect, a willing spirit to learn and most importantly a lack of bloodlust. Over several other young foals she was picked to learn the healing arts by the tribe healer. It was expected that after the death or dismissal of the current healer Lokapele would take control of the tribe healer position. However as she matured physically Lokapele changed mentally as well. The scent of blood and pain now attracted her and she had moments of disembodiment as if her lucidity was slowly slipping away. After the battlefield death of tribe healer Lokapele filled the position as no other kalona in the tribe were trained as healers and she kept tried to keep her desires hidden from the herd.

Lokapele stood her hooves resting on the remains of flowers splashed with the red blood of her herd and their enemies intermingled. She had a pensive look on her face and her eyes gazed from side to side looking for herd members with wounds to tend. The herd had won this last skirmish against the neighboring herd and their pet mercenaries but the cost had been deep and the lifeblood of several herd members had spilled to the ground. The dead ones spirits were now of a different plan of existence and Lokapele needed only pay attention to those still alive. With her healing knowledge she could give comfort to the wounded herd members who families would be glad to have their loved ones still alive.

The herd would grieve for those lost but ultimately the herd deaths were not in vain as the winning territory was rich land indeed. However it would be days before the land was free from the taint of the bloody battle. The air was saturated with the smell of blood and Lokapele breathing picked up. She felt the chains of her sanity began to slip away as her body warmed at the scent of blood and her ears twitched at the whimpers of pain the nearby wounded soq emitted. She had kept the secret of her bloodlust from her herd- after all a healer even a kalona healer was expected to successfully tend to the well being of their herd. Lokapele battled with her inner darkness but even when she slipped she would bounce back with no one the wiser. She had enough knowledge to take care of her herd and enough control not to hurt them.
With a single mindedness Lokapele dispensed herbs to those wounded and relaxed into the pattern of giving relief to those herd members who needed a reprieve from pain. Their eyes often would drift in her direction and they would express their gratitude. She smiled as she knew her talents helped save her herd members from infection and disease. The herd needed her and they were the reason she continued to heal. It would be some time before she taught an apprentice her craft for it was not everyday a young foal was born into the herd who had a warm heart and an astute intellect.
Lokapele would not make the mistake her predecessor made by hurriedly choosing her replacement. The next healer to come after her would be a true healer who was unburden by the cursed blood that made their kind so cruel.

Lokapele sighed in relief as the sky stated to darken with the arrival of the night hours. The wounded had been taken from the battlefield and were now looked after by their families. She would keep her eyes peeled on them throughout the night but the danger of for those wounded was minimal. Lokapele had some time to herself before others would question her disappearance. No herd members were in sight and she hummed in pleasure because she knew where an injured enemy lay close to death forgotten by it’s mercenary comrades in haste of their retreat. Lokapele scented the air and followed the sweet metallic aroma that led to the injured enemy she had spotted earlier while tending to her herd. The stallion lay heavily bleeding, feebly neighed in alarm at the sight of her and weakly thrashed from side to side. Her scarlet eyes narrowed at the weak pulse point on his neck and she stepped forward and nuzzled his neck savoring the smell of his fear. She pressed her lips against his neck before sadistically striking her incisors agaisn’t his pulse points and delicately lapping his still warm blood. His eyes glazed and he stopped moving before his heart finally gave up. Lokapele glanced at the moon and sighed she had been so good lately but this temptation had proven too strong.
