The fight had finally come to the close, and with the death of Aaron, Avery would rise with one of the Nidhogg. With the severe lack of defense against these foes with these powers, Avery had wound up having to recede from the battle and attack with his creatures. Stepping down from the head of the Nidhogg, onto the battlefield for the recent combat scene, Avery would walk next to the corpse of the Nidhogg which had grasped onto Aaron. It hadn't simply incinerated, but it's internals had been baked like a potato, which resulted in it's death.
Placing his own head against what could be considered the Nidhogg's head, before pulling back and gently placing his hand against it's body. With a slight blue hue around his hand and arm, he 'pulled' what could be conceived as the creature's soul out and into his own body.
Winning the battle was good, sure, but it took how many to do it? How many wounds? How much power? Just to kill one of these peoples' enemies. Avery would stand up, letting his hands fall to his sides in silence before turning to look at Light.
This fight was beyond Avery's current comprehension - he had fought battles before, and even in Hell he had to fight with Kain to defeat enemies, but this battle was to whole new realms as far as he was concerned. However, what truly made him curious was how Aaron died. Sure, he didn't see it happen, but even Avery felt somethin' was wrong. Something didn't feel right, and Light was the only one around a black pool of energy.
As Light had asked for the ring, Avery would break his stare from Light and begin to look at the cavern where Wyndom, Kain, Avery and Negi had come from earlier before the battle. Kain had been dragged off by one of the creatures they came across and ran from, but this entire time Kain had yet to show up. However, he had to have still been alive - afterall, he was still here.
The earth would begin to shudder as two obvious trails gave away the fact that two Nidhogg were being sent off to find Kain. Avery himself would have to stick with the group, though - to see this mission through. He would also have to learn how to adapt to these new foes - to use himself to the best of his abilities to compete with these new found powers. Optimization was the name of the game.
With a slow and quiet stride, Avery would move in closer to the group, and would take turns looking at each of his fellow comrades. They had to keep moving, otherwise it was possible that reinforcements would show up for the enemy.

The katana sunk smoothly into Aaron's skin with a sickening squelch, the electricity unleashing its deadly force against the Seraph. This would prove to be the undoing of their adversary, but he didn't fail to serve one final rebuttal in his demise. A brutal heat wave launched out from Aaron's wings, searing into Wyndom's unguarded front and sending him flailing away backwards, Tenbatsu tearing out of his grasp. His landing was somewhat stopped by his half-formed wings which crumpled in a painfully twisting heap beneath the Ritter. It would have been better to land on his back, since the protruding feathers had yet to be fully expanded, which left them overly sensitive. Wyndom writhed about on the stone floor as he was assaulted from all around by his senses. He was unaccustomed to his body changing, and so he still resisted it making it more painful for himself as well as dragging it out longer. He was severely burned, his eye had been slashed, and his wings felt like they were crushed and broken, yet Wyndom found the strength to roll onto his side and alleviate the pressure on his wings and see through his left eye to witness Lucas dominate the Seraph.
"NO!"
Corruption.
Fear seized Wyndom's heart as he watched his friend give into his inner demons. How were they any better? All of this was for whatever form of good that they clung to, and yet they embraced the darkness to conquer the darkness. Perhaps that was their calling as Vanguard's of Heaven. Perhaps they needed to douse themselves in blood and iniquity so that others might live in peace and harmony. Where others shrunk away from duty, they would step up and lose part of themselves for the greater good. Was there ever a point that was too far? Was there a line drawn that they wouldn't cross for the "greater good"? When would the good become more wicked than the evil?
Wyndom watched the Corruption spread out and devour Aaron with no hint of mercy. It made his gut churn, but he didn't look away. Lucas asked for the ring - he knew he had caved and that he needed help to return to his former self. Wyndom stared at him as the burning sensation of his skin was slowly calmed, at least for the moment. He would need to be treated soon, though. He rose to his feet shakily and made his way over to the unconscious form of Cynthia, the virtue, only stopping long enough to pick up and return Tenbatsu to its sheath. He pulled the ring off hey finger quickly before returning to his King's side, offering it to him with an outstretched palm, the circlet glowing dimly in the light of the dying fires. Indeed the ring possessed a strange power, causing people to react very differently. Wyndom hoped Lucas knew what he was doing...
"Great hope has no real footing unless one is willing to face into the doom that may also be on the way."

[Location: Underground Lake] [ <--- Music.] Thump, thump, thump.
The sound of the humanoid's head bouncing along the uneven ground echoed faintly in the cavern. Clucking noises filled the gaps of silence as the sulking Scorpion Queen dragged her prey deeper into the heart of the extensive caves. This was her territory and the pesky humans invaded it - unacceptable. She would teach them manners soon, but the Surreptitious Seraph was not one to trifle with.
Scuffle scuffle
Her legs flew nimbly across the rocks as the Scorpion of Steel approached her Sanctuary of Solitude. Inside its depths, the body of Kain was finally allowed to lay limp as trickles of blood flowed onto the uneven slabs of stone which served as a makeshift table...just like the rest of her cave. A few bones lay idle around the monstrous opening, but for the most part she had eaten everything. Her deceptively small mouth was able to snatch a person and rip them apart with her mouth's pincers before cramming whatever flesh and bones they snagged down her throat. More startling however was the pile of bodies hidden away in the far corner. They were easily located by the revolting stench that wafted through the entire room, as it would seem the Scorpion would sting her victims to poison them before dousing them with her saliva. This softened up their bodies to a more acceptable texture for dinner, because believe it or not, the Scorpion Queen didn't enjoy eating her meals so "raw" and hard. The Queen wasn't as young and impetuous as she once was, and so she preferred to let them soak for quite some time before feasting.
Drip...drip..
Saliva ran down the Queen's maw as she shifted herself around to look at the unconscious form of her dinner. The liquid coming forth from her mouth would help to break down even the toughest of flesh and metal given enough time. Time was all the Scorpion had though hiding down in these dark places, surprising unsuspecting guards and even keeping some prisoner rescue attempts from succeeding, although this last time hadn't proved so lucky overall. She had bagged one, and the chances of being located were slim.
Rustle, rustle.
She dropped Kain's feet on the ground and re-positioned herself to strike him with her tail. He wouldn't be killed instantly, and the shock of the pain would certainly rouse him from his unconscious state, and so she was prepared to pounce on his small body and crush it underneath of her massive girth. Then she would place him with the other bodies and cover him in her gooey liquid to initiate the decomposing process. He wasn't the biggest fellow, but he would certainly make a good snack someday this week.
Rumble RUMBLE!
The Scorpion had just enough time to lift her head before a massive Nidhogg exploded out of the side of one of her rock walls. With a hiss she plunged her tail forward, aiming to hit Kain still, but the creature was already blocking the path! The tail would surely puncture the creatures skin and poison it, killing it off in a minute or two, but for now the Scorpion slunk into the darkness to avoid detection, beady eyes angrily watching what happened to her new found snack.

[Location: St. Anne]
Shining through to Lucas' throne room, the portal opened up by the Imperfect One would split the air and illuminate the golden hued quarters. Although there was no welcoming party, the streaking shadows would dance joyously before Lucas as he stepped out from the gateway. Although his light was brilliant, the Imperfect One would find that he was incapable of chasing away the darkness. Surely his own people would take notice of his arrival?
Then again, the Celestials weren't exactly his people.
Anyone stepping through the portal from Yaabashael would join Lucas in his throne room before he took several steps forward. He'd comment that his Vanguards and his other party members could go back to their business if they wished. He supposed that taking a break from the excitement would be healthy. In fact he was somewhat pleased that no one was round to greet him here. He'd quickly remove the ring on his finger and stash it into his pocket for safekeeping and more importantly secrecy.
There was a snake in the garden. Lucas knew that Heaven wouldn't take lightly to that.
"Sir!" Moments had passed before a guardsman had passed through the large, overbearing doors to the throne room. The fully armored soldier would bow once and deliver a message that seemed to escape the mans lips with urgency, "You're needed at our prison, sir! While you were away we have captured a powerful Demon. I was sent to retrieve you and mention that the Council wished for you to deal with the situation."
"Situation?" "Sir." Bowing once again, the guardsman would pivot, turning himself 90 degrees and with a stern composure. Certainly, if Lucas were a cat he would be dead. His curiosity would command his steps to carry himself towards the exit of his throne room. Although as he passed by the guard, Lucas started to feel less than enthused.
"....." The name drop of the Council was unsettling. More so that they called it a "situation". Lucas just got out of a "situation". Hell, he just dealt with several bad ones. The Imperfect Celestial only hoped that the bad news didn't come in threes. First he had freed and lost Inferno, slain a iconic Seraph and now he was heading to a dungeon. His hands would slip casually into his pockets to toy with the golden coin he kept on him. This coin was rumored to attract "bad luck". He'd have to give the coin a five star review later. Until then he'd sigh and show himself to the prison with haste... --
"All right, I'm here. What, or who was so important that the Council needed to send me? I've got very important things to do." He did, yet he was currently neglecting all of them. Granted rest was important, Lucas didn't seem to be getting any of that any time soon. His frustration would drip thick from his tongue as he paused before the doors to the cells.
"Hold on..." Could this be? "No...This can't be serious?" It was! Lucas would pass through the gates and find himself face to face with a man he had thought would never show his face. He was skeptical of Arc being dead but...to think he'd now be in Heaven.
".......Arc" Bad situation number three, right on time.
