The Joker held her gun now, and she'd already turned the safety off. They stood on top of the elevator, and there was only a gaping hole leading into the floor above the one the elevator was on, so the Joker cautiously stepped through the doorway and glanced around before pressing herself against the wall. She motion for them to follow her and made her way down the hall quickly, her custom-made boots--which had heels to them, unlike the standard boots--making no sound.
She suddenly stopped and raised the gun, skin prickling. She motioned for them to stop and she got ready to shoot into the darkness, sensing something that had so far not revealed it's presence. She felt sweat trickle down the side of her face, and then something hit the floor. It sounded like water, but she knew better... the sound was too heavy. She aimed and fired twice, quickly going into a crouch and shooting twice more as something ahead of them cried out in pain. It was half human, half animal, but the cry was strangled enough so that it didn't give up too much sound. The Joker waited for any more sounds after she heard the thump of a body, but all she heard was gurgling, so she pulled up from her crouch and approached slowly, turning on her flashlight.
What she saw made her catch her breath. It was... a girl. Yet she had lost all humanity, turned into a hideous, deformed beast. There was a gun hole in the spot where the girl's skinny neck should be, replaced with a thick layer of fat that supported the deformed face that vaguely resembled a human. The body, for the most part, was still skinny underneath the heavy torso needed to support the head, giving it a hunchback. There was one normal arm with a clawed hand and an elongated arm that went nearly to the floor with stubby fingers. The knees bent the wrong way, bending forward instead of back, and they were swollen and looked ready to pop. In fact, one had, and was pouring disgusting green pus.
"Serum 2705," whispered the Joker, wide-eyed. She recognized this creature, in a way. The tell-tale signs were all there, the deformed limbs and heavier portions of the body and the green liquid that seeped from various points of the body, especially the bullet holes. "This is a rejected serum that they used in the early, early days, long before they'd created the first card," reported the Joker quietly. "I don't know how they got their hands on this, but I doubt they still have it, since they're probably dead... We have two options. We can leave and let these creatures die off on their own time, we can hunt them down and try to retake the base--though that might be impossible, what with our lack of knowledge of their numbers--, or we can leave and bomb this base entirely."

When the Joker flashed her flashlight on the once human girl but now beast thing, Axel was a little disturbed. How could they do such a thing to a girl, who looked maybe no older than 13 or 14. It was cruel. Axel couldn't help but pity her but at the same time worry. It was too late for her, she was gone, they couldn't help her, and if there was more, this would become a dangerous situation fast, and right now the safety of his still alive team came first. "I agree with Chariclo we have to-" Axel froze when his premonitions played in his mind. He saw his team, worn and slightly battered, they were making an escape... but from what? What happened to them, then he saw his group from outside his own body, standing in the dark by this inhumane girl and in the next few seconds as they turn away, they were... "It's an ambush..." Axel said at first softly. "It's an ambush! We're being surrounded!" Axel warned everyone.

Chariclo locked up when Axel warned them of their situation. He couldn't hear anyone but themselves, and his echolocation resulted in the same thing- he couldn't detect anyone but his team.
"A-are you sure?" He whispered, his eyes desperately searching the room for something, anything but themselves. Confusion was practically written all over him. "Wait...They're hiding, pretty well too. I'm guessing they're wearing silencers, and are using thermal blankets or wet suits, the neoprene ones." He mumbled, looking at his team.
Still, something should have came back from the echolocation, the sound would have bounced off of whoever, or whatever, was here and then given him an idea of where everything was. What could block that?... "Be on your top guard."

The Joker shook her head, speaking quietly and quickly, "No, there are no normal people left here. The Serum doesn't work immediately; it takes time, like the medicine we use today. If anything happened to those who were applying the serum--something as simple as a small spill of the serum getting into a papercut--then they're long gone. Besides, these creatures... They're cannibals. Like certain animals, they will eat anything they find alive unless driven to starvation; anything dead, however, they will leave alone. And those dead will become one of them. Occasionally in desperate times they'll eat themselves. My fa--I mean, my great-great-grandfather had plenty of time to study the creatures while he hid with the others of the team from these monsters..." The Joker quietly cursed her slip up before she checked her gun. Definitely not enough ammunition; she calculated how much they had between the four of them.
"They can't swim, not for long distances, so we can leave them on this island and come back to retake them in maybe, oh, a hundred years or so, once all of the gases that build up have dissipated." She was inching down the hall, "By the way, they can't understand our speech. It confuses them, hearing it, and it messes with their senses. So just keep talking. Don't get too loud, though; that might send them into a rampage." So this entire time she'd been trying to get them out of there while explaining things and they didn't even realize it... "Oh, and don't shoot. That sends them into a frenzy as well." She slowly made her way down the hall. "Though it mutates the body, it also mutates them in the way that we are mutated... They cannot use powers such as ours, with a few rare exceptions, but they can block them or reflect them." She slipped right by one of the monsters, who was shaking his head and looking this way and that; it was an ugly brute with a hunchback much like the girl with bloated muscles. It's features were more like a monkey than a human, and it had large fangs protruding from it's lower jaw.. So the monsters couldn't see, or at least couldn't see well. The Joker continued to speak softly, "We'll have to find some stairs, and judging from the layout, I think I know where to find them. It will be a problem if they've made it to the stairs, but I doubt it, since none of them were above. Then again, they do hate sunlight..."
