Story:
Sirens blared in the distant as they tried making their way to the inner city to back up the other police officers who were there to fend off the mob that had taken over down town L.A. It was no use though, as the mob got bigger and more complex. People started turning on other people and soon all of down town L.A. was in complete chaos and that chaos soon spread to the outskirts of the city and into the suburbs. Within hours all of California was in anarchy as people turned into ravenous monsters and attacked others, turning them into the same monsters as well if they weren't eaten and torn apart.

Everything was gone within a day... Everything we knew was turned up side down as people fought for their lives from these monsters that now plagued the state. There was no stopping it. It spread like a fast moving plague and soon even the military couldn't stop it. It didn't matter who it was, whether they were young, old, sick and dieing, or healthy. Everyone that came into contact with someone infected turned into one of those monsters. What happened was worse than a war, and the people who were left had to survive in this hell...

Plot:
We are the survivors of this zombie apocalypse. We are the few who are left over from the chaos, the lucky ones to still be alive... or the damned... which ever you choose to look at it. It's been a week since the first incident occurred, and all communication has stopped. Everything as we once knew it is in shambles and we are left to pick up the pieces. Can we survive this harsh world, or will we fall victim to the monster's wrath? What caused this to happen?? and is there anything we can do to fix or reverse it??? There are many questions we have to answer, while we stand here and fight to survive. For now We're Alive.

Location: Los Angeles, California and the surrounding area in the year 2012.

Zombies:
How People Turn:
- They are bitten by an infected person.
- Transmission is still unclear however based on given clues, infection appears to be through fluid exchange via spit or blood contact into the blood stream

How the Zombies Can Tell Where People Are:
- Certain zombies have an acute sense of hearing, however some are deaf but have a good sense of smell.
- Attracted to the smell of pheromones and human blood.
- Their sense of smell can be thrown off by chemicals with a strong scent, ie perfume, alcohol.
- Alcohol seems to repel zombies.

Notable Facts:
- Zombies rest and/or sleep.
- The zombies are cannibals.
- Animals cannot turn.
- Zombies can build a tolerance to homemade chloroform.
- Some zombies take more than one bullet to bring down.
- Carries their dead and deceased victims back the the Arena where they are either eaten or burned or both.
- Not all zombies use the the hive as a home base. Some prefer to live on an island, etc.
- Clear distinction between zombies that lead and zombies that follow.
- The smarter you were in life, the smarter you are as a zombie.
- Zombies have some sort of deformity or super human strength or ability.
- Uncertain whether zombies are actually dead. Necessity of food and sleep points otherwise.

Big Ones:
Behemoths are some of the most intimidating zombies in the We're Alive universe. Strong and similar to battering rams, once they get moving not much stands in their way. With their tough leather like skin, bullets and other projectiles have problems penetrating their skin. Like every other zombie, they are vulnerable to head shots, however a direct shot from an arrow cannot kill them.

Jumpers:
A very rare breed, these zombies can jump three to five story buildings in a single leap. Like other zombies, they are vulnerable to head shots.

Little Ones:
Seem to be natural hunters and know when they are at a disadvantage and prefer to attack from above. They leave behind a unknown slime. They have uncommonly long and sharpened fingernails. While most zombies were most definitely human at one point, it seems to be unknown if the Little Ones were ever human in the first place.

Regulars:
The majority of the zombies encountered in the story are this variety. While not possessing some of the special traits of other zombies, they are still capable of running and protecting themselves from harm. Their strength comes in pack hunting, overwhelming their prey by sheer volume. Regulars seem to be able to ignore physical pain inflicted on them. They have been seen walking on broken legs, and can survive multiple gunshots to their body without being killed. They are susceptible to head shots, as well as large traumatic injuries from explosions. While they are capable of seemingly ignoring pain, they do seek to avoid it. There have been instances of zombies avoiding and hiding from gunfire to protect themselves.Regulars also possess the ability to adapt to certain things.

Regular zombies have seemingly changed their hunting tactics since the beginning of the series. Originally sound was the major factor in attracting the zombies, but smell has since become the primary hunting tool and the larger concern of the survivors. Sound is still used and has to be checked by all survivors though as gunshots still attract large amounts of zombies on occasion.

Runners:
When they are encountered they are a severe threat to the survivors. Capable of running down a speeding car, Runners are not to be taken lightly especially since they are frequently in the company of Smart Ones or even The One With the Markings.

Smart Ones:

Smart ones are capable of setting traps, recognizing when they are in danger, and are not ruled by their instincts to consume all their victims as they catch them. Smart Ones actually stockpile food. They also separated the piles of bodies they have between humans they used for food, and dead compatriots they left outside.

Smart Ones potentially retain the ability to speak and understand language. It is definitely a skill for The One With the Markings, and there is evidence it applies to other Smart Ones it cannot be confirmed at this time. While their understanding of spoken language is debated, there is no debate that Smart Ones communicate. Using a series of growls, and howls they can communicate with Regulars and other Smart Ones.

The One with Markings:

The baddest of the bad, The One With The Markings is not a zombie to be trifled with. It has been said you only see him once, and then you're dead. While this is a slight exaggeration it's not that far off. By using ingenious traps, superior speed, skills and the survivors own assumptions that the zombies can not do things they are indeed capable of The One With The Markings has launched numerous successful attacks against survivors. The One With The Markings typically does not get his hands dirty, preferring to command Runners, Regulars and other Smart Ones to do his dirty work. Nothing is known of The One With The Markings origins.

Today was like any other day recently. The screams from those things echoed in the distant as they found the last few survivors that were not killed or turned. Charlie stayed hidden in a abandoned building some floors up with the door locked and the gun sitting on her lap. It was early morning, and she was surprised how clear it was. She could feel the heat of the summer approaching quickly as the morning was warmer than a few months ago. She sighed as she looked down at her last MRE she and her brother had grabbed that day from the army surplus store. After today she would have to go looking for whatever food there was available. It had only been a couple of days since the attacks started and already the city of San Fransisco was barren except for whatever animals roam the streets, the few scared survivors that take cover as quick as possible and well... those things.

Why she came to the city she didn't know... maybe to find friends, and family that lived there? she guessed to herself, but knew already it was pointless. By this time they would either have been turned or killed by those... things. Charlie decided at that point instead to not call them things, but call them what they truly were. Zombies. Flesh eating zombies. She played with her food, grimacing the idea of it and shuddered over the images that flooded her memory. The last few days had been the worse and she hoped and prayed that it would either die down, or someone or something would stop it. Setting her food down she pulled her knees close to her and hid her face. She didn't get much sleep last night as there were to much howling from down below for her to really be safe. Those things could smell blood and sweat. Almost as though they were honed in on the fear that they caused.

Charlie wanted to cry, she missed the safety of her older brothers, she missed her mom's smile, and the garden she kept. Everything was torn away from her just a few days ago and now?... now she was alone with no body. She refused up to this point to go with others; mainly because they were to stupid to know what to do. She had seen one group fall victim to the zombies already... the same group she was about to join. She watched from a near by building the massacre that unfolded before her. A group of about thirty zombies ambushed their compound and they were out numbered. There was nothing she could do to help them...

She opened her eyes and pushed back her hair from her face. She sighed once more and frowned at the door and the place around her. Picking up her MRE she began eating.

It was getting on Iria's nerves, all the moaning and screeching going on outside. It was ungodly and made her want to scream, which could be a way that they found prey. She wondered if anyone ever went insane from the screaming and just tried to silence it. That, of course, would be suicide. But recently, Iria wondered if the dead weren't luckier than the survivors. This was the worst way to live, as scared animals, running for their lives. But she knew that her father and mother had always worked as hard as they could to give her the best, and she wouldn't be one of the many to throw it all away. She was still hopeful that there would be a way out. A cure, the military, or maybe the zombies would just drop dead. Or she could be stuck out here alone, listening to the moaning and screeching alone for years. Iria was very careful about not hiding in the same place very often. Smart Ones would find ways to ambush you if you did. Instead, she spent her days walking, gathering, and playing with Buffy. At night, she found a safe place to rest and eat. Then the next day started and the process repeated. It was kind of monotonous, well however monotonous anything can be when you're running for your life, and it was making her want to do something different. Routines were so dull. But they kept her alive, so she quit whining and just kept rolling. She was walking through backyards, trying to find anything edible. She tried to avoid kitchens or going inside houses in general, because they just felt too ominous, and she didn't doubt there would be zombies inside. Buffy was the perfect dog, because she didn't seem to like barking and was well behaved. Iria figured that she had probably been trained very well before the whole... incident.
"Score!" She muttered, finding some mint and oregano. People tended to grow them because they were easy and mint smelled so good. Iria picked all of it and packed the herbs in some bags that she hung off her pack, to avoid crushing them. She had been living mostly as a vegetarian, since it was so rare to find any edible meat when refrigeration wasn't working, but she would find packs of jerky every once in a while that she could snag. She was partial to the peppered and original, but beggars couldn't be choosers when their survival depended on eating to keep your strength up. Buffy growled at the glass door that led inside the house and Iria finished her packing. "Come on, Buffy." She walked away as quickly as she could without making much noise, but nearly screamed when one of the more normal ones slammed against the door. Its face was gruesome, and Iria turned tail and ran, Buffy right next to her. All those years of running and jumping had really paid off, just not the way she had ever expected it to.

It wasn't long before she would have to move on from her safe room. If anything she needed to find a safer area, or get to a place where there were others. The need to be around other people drove her out of her hiding place, and down the hall as silently as she could. She had already checked this apartment complex, there was no one else alive or to be seen in any of the rooms. She knew this place as to big for her to keep safe, but knew that a high rise would be safer than nothing. She have grabbed her things and traveled down to the lobby and out onto the street. She checked both ways and found nothing but the sound of birds in the distant. She sighed in relief and moved cautiously around the area.

It was warm, the summer heat made her sweat under her vest and jacket, but she knew she had to keep them on, especially if she had any confrontations with those things. She wore a bandana around her nose and face, and a pair of sun glasses to keep the blood from her eyes. She took as many precautions as possible. A few hours went by and all she saw were some stragglers that tried running towards her. She popped off a few rounds and went into hiding, listening for the call of the smart ones but nothing came.

Moving again she looked up at the sky and frowned under her bandana... It was going to be night time soon and she would have to find a safe area once more. Moving quickly she found one and settled in. Making sure to block the opening with as much stuff as she could and traveling up a few floors so she had a good view of the ground. As night fell, her senses were heightened... She hated being alone in this world... she wanted her family, but most of all she wanted her brothers...
