The later was cool and refreshing as it slid over Jora'mana's tongue, splashing his maw and dripping from his chin as he raised himself from the drink to peer around. The pride was relaxing in small groups (though some were rather large, replete with cubs) around the edge of the water, enjoying the day. Jora'mana, however, was not. His siblings had recently left the pride to begin their hunts for their first banu. When he'd been younger, he had felt proud that he would not need to. That he'd been a pad technically since his cubhood, thanks to an ill-fated rockslide that landed a leopardess right in his lap. But now he felt differently. He'd never had to prove himself. Never really, earned his title.

And he only had one banu. A leopard at that. Not likely to give him fertile children. An end to his line. The thought soured his mood noticeably.

But then, several families with yet unpromised daughters grown to matching age were about. Why not look around? He sat back on his haunches, taking discrete measure of the various females that were subtly (and in some cases, blatantly) on display. He was fully grown now. Wasn't it time to add to his harem? Yes...yes he thought he would do just that. But which family seemed to have the most promising daughters? He ignored the flashy ones directly. He already had a banu, and would prefer someone less...spirited than his lady leopardess. To the quiet ones he looked then. those content to sit peacefully while their older or more anxious sisters tried to catch passing males' eyes.

Forouza had settled herself not far from the waters edge. She came from a large and prominent family, and many of her cousins and siblings were out and about this day. It was almost difficult finding members in the pride who weren't related to her in some way, and of those that were available, they either had chosen some of her siblings . . . . or just weren't interested.

The dark coated lioness did her best not to get down. She had no complaints, really, outside of a anxiety that she was getting older and had yet to be granted a Pad. She couldn't stay her father's daughter forever, and yet sometimes it felt as if that were to be her lot. There had been the stranger on the border, the one she had found herself intrigued with, but . . . . it turned out not to be. She had been foolish to have even considered an outsider, but that had been years ago. She had been young, foolish . . . perhaps that's why she was still without a proper Pad.

Forouzen didn't her best not to allow such negativity to get to her. Things would happen in due time. She wasn't anxious, and she was't desperate, even if the banu wondered what it was that kept her so . . . available. She was quiet, demure, didn't speak unless spoken to, and deferred easily to all Pad's within the pride. A small part of her wondered if perhaps the males wnated someone with more fuss and fight, a challenge, but . . . it was never, and would never, be her.

C'est la vie.

The dark coated lioness rested upon a small, flat rock. Her crimson gaze looked up shyly every now and then, though she was quick to dip her head respectfully when other Pads drew near or passed. She didn't speak or gossip with the other banu, she kept to herself. That was also another trait of the coy female; she had enver been a busy body, had never been fond of supremely large groups. Even now ,she kept herself slightly apart from the others of her family and pride. The large numbers were intimidating (even if their numbers weren't particularly large) and she much preferred smaller, more intimate groups and settings. Unfortunately, in the Ukuucha'wafalme, scuh small groups were rare to find.

Jora was becoming increasingly unhappy the further he looked. There were plenty and to spare females, but none felt just right. Perhaps he was fated to remain a single-banu pad. How disgraceful. He'd assumed he had a glowing future ahead when he managed to claim his rank as a mere child. Now it seemed that would encompass all of his fifteen minutes of fame. A sad trade off indeed.

He had nearly given up and set to head for home, away from the irritatingly cheerful families, when someone finally caught his eye. She sat as if distanced from her family...a fetching enough lioness. Dark, with white and such a pale purple racing over her. She was his own age, and being unclaimed, most would wonder what was wrong with her temperament.

He spent a long moment observing her. She seemed fairly content, and in no way disobedient. A left-over then, from her father scattering her sisters, had she any. Poor female. she was taking it very well. Perhaps she would be glad just to have a pad? Her still acceptance of the unenjoyable sensation that must be being a grown female still under her father's paw impressed him. And, he reasoned, her father must be glad to find her a pad soon. Lest it reflect poor upon his own family. Right?

Encouraged, he made his way over. But he didn't rush to do it. After all, he wanted to make a good first impression.
