Things were a lot different now.. He didn't only have himself and his mother to worry for. No, now things were a touch more complicated. He couldn't help but feel a bit anxious, he hoped he knew what he was doing. But he supposed he had to learn on the job, since it had been such a surprise. He had not known that Liraz had been pregnant, but he smiled when he thought of her face. These babies reminded him of her, and he knew he loved them the second his eyes had landed on them.

His mother had been incredibly wary, but once she was sure he was telling the truth and not teasing her, she had jumped for joy. She had always wanted to be a grandmother. Okay, well maybe not since it was like saying she was old. But he knew his mother would be an amazing grandmother to his children.

He looked at the babies, a smile on his face. They each had something different about them. Each had a certain flair about them, that made them interesting.

"So, what did you mother call you? Or did she give you names?" He asked, as he settled down onto the sand to watch them.

The little female smiled when her daddy spoke, pawing at him and gnawing on his paw. She was so much smaller compared to him, and she used the cuteness to her advantage. She was a sweet girl, someone who loved being around her father, even if he was new to her. She remembered little to nothing of mother, but father had said she was a beautiful companion. Someone she should be proud to say gave birth to her. So Odette knew that was true. She must have been amazing, for her to have snagged daddy's heart.

Flounder was nervous. She remembered her mother, though mostly for her warmth and her food. She'd only just been weaned and still longed for the taste of sweet milk and the familiar scent of warmth and safety, yet they had been taken away. It had been a long, cold, terrifying journey, at least for the runty cub, and she had been afraid. They had been taken to a strange place and left with a strange male, their blood father, and though he was different and Flounder was often afraid of different, she was warming up to him quickly and could easily be found tangled about his legs in a loving and playful manner.

At this particular moment, as Catfish settled down in the sands, the tan, orange, and white cub took the opportunity to scramble over his back, her tiny, needle like claws gently snagging his fur as she sought to keep hold of him. She overshot the strength she needed, however, and tumbled over, plopping into the sand. She sputtered, spitting the gritty substance as she righted herself. Sand was nasty!

"Dunno~" She rumbled in a purr as she launched herself at his back again, aiming to be queen of the mountain, so to speak.

He chuckled, though he had to grimace once Flounder got her claws into his pelt. He had been calling her Flounder, because he had no idea what she had really been called. Orla had not filled him in on that, and the little cub just could not seem to tell him what she had been called before. He supposed it had been a long, dangerous journey.. It was easy to forget things that you weren't aware were very important to begin with.

"Is that so, youngling? Well. Then I shall just stick to calling you Flounder. How's that?" He asked with a smile.

Odette perked at the sight of her sister, and when she toppled over into the sand, Odette was on the case. She leapt up from her position by daddy's paws, and leapt at the younger sister. She had a great warmth in her heart for all her family, and she had accepted daddy just as easily as she had accepted all her family.

"Momma called me Odette.. or that's what Aunty Orla tol' me. Is that my name?" She asked, innocently looking at her father. He chuckled and nodded.

"If that is what you would like to be named, my little Swan." He purred.

For the beginning of the conversation, as his sisters talked to his father, Afshang merely watched with a toothy little smile. He watched the large male--his blood father--pointedly. It was clearly his father that the little cub got his looks from, and for a while he merely watched the lion with awe(though doing his very best not to show it).

As one of his sisters went tumbling, his brows raised. His expression gave way to a minute, worried frown. When it became apparent that Odette had the situation handled, his mouth twitched back upwards into the sly smile. At that, he decided it was his turn to speak and he stretched, sticking his tail high into the air and rubbing his cheek into the ground, looking up to his father. "Afshang." He said briefly, stretching his paws out as far as they could go before him before flopping onto his side. Through the entire movement, he kept his eyes on Catfish. Father as he may be, this lion was still practically a stranger and didn't quiet have his trust, yet. "They called my Afshang."

Catfish had noted that the little black cub was more reserved than the others. In truth, the cub reminded him so much of himself, in looks and personality. Catfish had always been a wary, reserved guy. He found it rather amusing, that his girls had Liraz's temperment, and then here was this little boy, who reminded him so much of himself.

His blue eyes glittered as he looked at his boy. He felt proud, though everytime he looked at his cubs he found himself growing a pang of sadness deep in his heart. How he wished that Liraz could have been more in their lives. But he had made it his mission, to talk about their mother as much as they liked. As if she was there, helping to raise the babies he knew full well she loved.

"That's a strong name. Your mother must have been very proud of you." He said with a soft smile. He didn't want to push too much on the boy, afraid of scaring him away. He wanted his cubs to grow comfortable with him.. and he had every intention of making that happen.

The cub opened his mouth to speak in response. At the mention of his mother, though, his eyes dropped to the ground. Her loss still held onto him tightly, and thinking of her still hurt a little. "I..." He stumbled over his words a bit, then. He didn't know what to say. "I... Yeah. I suppose she was." Afshang fell quiet again. Even being young, he tried to hold his composure the best he could. Stoic, strong, and charming. Not showing fault, that's how he could keep his family safe. That's how he could watch over them.

He just wished it would have worked for his mother.

"So," he started again, a smile washing away his worried look as his blue eyes went back to his father, "What's the deal with this place?"

Brandt had been hiding, or trying his best to hide. He still wasn't sure he liked this big male, even if auntie had told them this was their father. Where had he been then, when momma went away? He'd only come after. He didn't trust him, even though he knew he should. So he waited for his siblings to make the first move, and they seemed to think he was alright. A little reluctantly he stepped forward from behind a rock, "I'm Brandt, I guess." That was what they had called him at least, though he wasn't sure he liked it too much. He'd come up with something else in time, if he was going to stay here. He'd seen some of the crews working together, they called each other all sorts of names. Some of them were funny, but others sounded strong and scary. "Yeah, Brandt is okay."

Catfish realized after he saw the cubs eyes fall, that he had mentioned something that had hurt them rather deeply. He had mentioned their mother. He didn't want them to forget her though, and though he knew that the pain of losing her would always remain in their hearts.. He knew that they would heal, and he knew that he would help him as much as he could.. He wanted to be there for them.
"Well, you are my little pirate-ling, my son. A strong, brave future crew member. You will find, that this is one of the most laid back places you could ever be. You will like it here." He told his son, that was called Ashfang. He was proud of the boy and his brave smile, and he showed it by allowing his own smile, before taking his paw and roughing up the young ones mane fluff.

Thats when the other little cub spoke, and he smiled at him too.
"Brandt, eh? Well it's a pleasure to meet you Brandt." He said, with a nod of his head. He tried to be respectful, adn though he wanted to hug them all.. He knew they needed their time.

Odette wasn't as cautious as the rest of her siblings. She probably had inherited the kindness and acceptance from her mother. She wasn't fearful of much, but it wasn't a naive thing, she was just a brave little girl. After her and her siblings had braved the travel to get here, she knew and felt that she could do anything.

"I like this place already. This.. weird dirt is funny!" Odette said, as she stepped into the sand and watched her paw sink. She giggled, before pulling it back, and then doing it all, all over again.

Mother... She missed mother, quite a lot actually. She had tried not to think about what had transpired, but there it was. He, her father, had brought her mother up. It would be hard not to, really, and it would be silly to pretend like she hadn't existed, but her life and death was a tender spot for she and many of her siblings. Still, she perched atop her father and poked her little nose in the thickness of his dark mane and snorted, giving a small chuckle at the movement of his dense fur under her small breath. She was going to try her damnedest to make the most out of this and she was pretty taken with her father, already.

"It was long, what she called me." She finally voiced, after doing her best to remember. "It was something about fish, so Flounder is okay, I guess. Uhm, Vidogo... Vidogo'samaki. But Sam is ok, or-or-or Flounder is fine!" As if to prove just how fitting his nickname for her was, she lost her grip and tumbled forward, landing on her rump with an oomph.

Catfish smiled warmly at his little girl. She was sweet, and he couldn't help but like her. He liked all his cubs. He had this feeling like he had known them forever.. Like he had never been apart from them. Though he knew the feeling likely wasn't entirely mutual. They were nervous, and adjusting, and he had to learn to adjust to them too.

"Somethin' about fish, eh?" He asked, and when she rolled off of him, he leaned over, picking her up in his jaws by the scruff, and righting her back on her paws.

"You are a wild one too, aren't you Flounder?" He teased, and watched as Odette darted to her sister, pouncing on her just to knock her back down.

"She don't need to stand! She needs to play!" Odette chirped, pulling at her sisters ear playfully.

"Somethin' about fish!" She chirped back, dangling from his jaws by her scruff. She wasn't really sure why fish. Maybe she reminded her mother of the sea or the lakes? She didn't look like a fish, did she? The cub really didn't know, but it didn't bother her. Her mother gave her the name and she would do her best to remember it, even if she didn't go by it. She dearly missed her mother, but she did her best not to dwell on sorrow in general. That included her mother's death. Her little paws reached towards the ground until he sat her down and she laughed at him calling her wild. She was the wildest. A broad grin plastered across her maw and a rounded ear pricked at the sound of oncoming paws. Though she turned, there was no avoiding Odette's attack and she found herself flattened on her back, trying to push Odette off of her with her stubby paws.

"I'll play wi'you awright!" She let out a mock growl as her teeth sought out her sister's nape and her body wriggled in an effort to get out from under her sister.

(Once everyone gets 500words, I'll be posting this for certing. If your cub hasn't got 500 words yet, please try to get that done!)

Odette grinned at her sister. She was close to all her siblings, or she liked to think she was. She was going to like it in this new place. It was so pretty here. The only thing she missed was mother, and Aunt Orla. But Aunt Orla had said they'd be safe here. That was what was important. And this.. daddy.. he was a good daddy, she could tell.

Flounder wiggled under her, and she tried to keep her weight balanced so she wouldn't tumble. But that was in vain as she flipped over and rolled onto her back. Her little legs kicked in the air, and she shrieked with joy. She then flipped over quickly, and began running towards father.

"You can't catch me!" She called.

_____________

Catfish grinned, and shook his head. He was going t ohave his paws full, but he was okay with that. They were good, sweet creatures, and he knew they had just as much of him as they had of Liraz. He would tell them of her every day if they wanted. He would not keep her memory a secret, only his to hold.

He stood, missing Odette's attack on him as he did so. He chuckled at her, leaning down to grab her by her scruff. She squealed, and he motioned for his other cubs to follow.

"Come along, children." He said, around the cub in his mouth. "Let's go get something to eat." And he turned, walking towards the center of the pride.

Afshang watched with a little smile. He was doing his best to absorb it all. To take in everything that was changing around him. To be honest, it was a bit much to handle all at once. He wasn't in his mother's pride for long, but the air of his new home was considerably different. It would take, to say the least, a bit of getting used to. He wasn't particularly eager to go through it all, but he certainly wasn't against it.

The cub nodded and stood as his father spoke once more, not saying anything as he stood and bumbled behind him, eyes darting around to take the sights of the pride in.

Mkay apparently 5 posts are needed to finish this per character. So DeD, we just need two more from you, Dulcea we need 4 posts from you, and Aurrie you are good! OuOb.

Once we have this done I'll post your cubbins for certing!

He stood, stretching out his body as he did so. He had been sitting here for quite a bit now, and he was starting to feel stiff. He wondered if the cubs would like to meet the corsairs. They'd be spending good portions of their day with them, so it was probably best for htem to get acquainted.

"Afshang, how would you like to go meet some other Pirates?" He asked, looking at the boy. He felt bad that Afshang felt so out of place, but he supposed time would fix that. Eventually Afshang would feel as if he had been born in these lands. Catfish would make sure he liked his home.

"Brandt, the rest of you, would you like that?" He asked.

Odette began bouncing in place, squealing as she lunged at her father's leg. She nodded, and giggled once she finally latched on to the male's leg. Looking up with her bright eyes, she smiled again.

"Yes daddy! I wanna go!" She said, her voice excited. She was so loving, so trusting, just like her mother had been. She didn't care that Catfish was like a stranger. She had been told he was daddy, and that was good enough for her.

Brandt perked his ears at the mention of others. Pirates he called them, he'd heard that word a lot but he wasn't entirely sure yet what it meant. It always seemed to be said in a nice way, so maybe it meant strong. He'd be cautious until he could figure everything out. That would be the safe thing to do, the smart thing. "Alright, if they're nice," he said softly as he got to his feet to follow. It wasn't that had anything in particular against this place, he just wasn't sure what to make of it. Maybe if he met some others he'd find someone he could relate to. Someone a little well, different. He wasn't even sure what he wanted.
