» mission #001

After she had successfully gotten away from the Ysali dragon that so easily overtook her, Kavanna took out a little leather bound note pad, which she considered a journal, as well as a writing utensil and sat down on the grassy bank of a miniature hill and began to write.

Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

I finally found a dragon today, but I lost terribly. Those Ysali are really very powerful. I think I may have just figured out which clan I'll choose when that time comes. Ysali also heal themselves. Maybe that is what I need, a healing clan to help me when battles get tough. And being able to witness the true power of a Ysali dragon first hand has made my decision even more solid. I just need to get cleaned up, these cuts really hurt!

» surprise!!! mission #002

Upon waking from the previous days events, Kavanna's wounds were still very sore and leading into infection. Her body was bruised from the beatings and cut from the many razor-sharp leaves that were thrown at her during her first dragon encounter. Last night, however, she realized that dragons could communicate with people, something that she hadn't heard before. She decided to document this discovery to be sure to ask Marcus when she returned from her adventure. Taking out her pad and quill, she wrote:

Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

Yesterday was an extremely disheartening day. Two failed attempts at dragon battling, even though the second was more of a surprise and a warning than anything. I couldn't move, I was in too much shock. The Ysali dragon spoke to me, telling me to leave and never come back. It wasn't communicating by any means physical. It must have sent me mental messages or something. Well, I need to get back to the fortress before people begin to worry.

» a special meeting

The trek to the edge of the ocean on Serenia was a brutal one. She had to catch a ferry or take some sort of boat to the Celestial Vortex so she could get home. She needed to discuss her discovery of dragon speech with Marcus Ysaride, the leader of the Dovaa.

Kav had finally found the dock in which she had come to Serenia, but of course, the portal was no longer there. She knew it wouldn't be, but she did need a boat of some sort to get back to the Celestial Plane. She looked around, and found many boats tied to the docks, of course, none of which were hers or owned by anyone she knew.

Suddenly, an old Orderite woman began to make her way down the hill from the city. Her hair was white as snow, her skin as pale as the moon. Her eyes were orbs full of the crystal water of Amafel. "Oh look here, aren't you a pretty little Dovaa girl. Oh! You're hurt! Your arms and legs! They're all cut up! You must come with me and let me heal you." she said, walking right up to Kavanna and pulling her arms away from her body as to inspect her.

Kavanna's eyes bulged out of their sockets when the woman began to grab at her arms. She hadn't ever heard of such a kind Orderite. Normally, Dovaa weren't welcomed on Orderite or Oblivionite sands. But obviously there were some people who didn't seem to mind their presence, this woman definitely seemed as though she was alright, even to the point of wanting to help this complete stranger. "Thanks, but what I really need right now is just to get back to the fortress." she said, the stinging pain from her cuts still lingering.

"No, I insist you come with me! If you do, I'll definitely send you on your way in my late husband's boat." she said with a smile.

Kavanna was in shock. She didn't know what to say. All of her instincts and teachings from her professors told her not to trust an Orderite or Oblivionite, that they wouldn't ever have your best interest at heart, that none of them could be trusted. But this old woman seemed like she had a genuine care for Kavanna anyway. "Th-thank you. I really do appreciate it." she said as the woman threw her shawl over the little Dovaa and escorted her to her abode.

It wasn't more than a mile long walk before they were nestled safely on the beach at this woman's home. It was a small cottage right on the beach outside of Ashen City. "It was me, my husband, and my kids that lived here, we've been here for over ninety years. We watched as Ashen City grew into a fortress unlike any other. A beautiful city, really, but my husband and I couldn't leave our home like that. It used to be just Ashen Village, but suddenly Aevah decided to build the fortress up and make it a stronghold of sorts within the past hundred years or so. Though I still love my little home here on the outskirts. My husband used to love it to." she said, a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. It was quite obvious that she loved her husband and that he had probably died in recent years, but Kavanna didn't want to bring any saddening thoughts up if she didn't need to. After all, this woman was being more kind than most of the Dovaa community, and they had just met moments ago.

The woman opened the door for Kav and inside she stepped. The creaking of this old cottage made Kav's nerves twinge. Though it seemed safe enough, just like any elderly couple's cottage. Professionally painted family portraits hung over the fireplace. Life seemed to stand still in that little place, time didn't seem to escape. It seemed as though this couple had a couple daughters and a son at first glance. So she had a family? That must be why she seemed so willing to help a youngster. Her kids almost seemed to be the same age as Kav in the picture. Maybe she had grandchildren?

The woman smiled. "See, my children have all gone and grown. You do remind me of my youngest daughter though, she had a spunk and a dragon hunter's soul, that much is for sure. I guess that's why I took so kindly to you. She's actually on an adventure as we speak, killing as many as she can. She's a soul hoarder. After her time in the academy, she decided to use her bow and arrows for dragon hunting instead of taking after her mother and using a staff for healing." the woman said.

"I never properly introduced myself. My name is Naomi. I am a healer. I hope you don't feel like I pushed too much to get you here. I just want to see you feel better. I guess I really should ask who people are before inviting them into my home. Hehehe. Oh dear silly old me." she said.

"I can assure you, I won't cause you trouble. You've been nothing but kind to me since you saw me almost pass out back there. Thank you so much for your kindness. I'm Kavanna, a Dovaa, obviously. I haven't chosen my clan yet, but I think I know what I want to be now." she said, opening up a bit more than she would to most other strangers.

Kavanna had now had it set into her mind what she wanted to do with her life. Oh how she wished that she could be a Ysali Dovaa. That would make her parents proud. She would definitely need to be a healer, that way she could take care of herself in any dire case. That's just what she needed however, a nice healing touch.

A smile grew on Kavanna's face. Suddenly, the woman smirked and grabbed Kavanna's hands. "You're going to be a healer, a Ysali or Peisio, aren't you? Oh how I do wish you would say yes." the woman squealed.

"Actually, yes that is exactly what I wanted to do." Kavanna replied.

A squeal of excitement bellowed through the cottage. This Naomi woman was pleased to see Kavanna using her hopeful spirit to put forth healthy, good vibes. The woman was more willing to help Kavanna now than ever it seemed.

"The dragon's who you battled in these past days will fear you once you have an increased confidence in yourself. You can't let yourself give up, Kavanna. You must keep pushing forward! You mustn't give up! Keep your chin up and try, try again. If you fall down, get back up. My youngest daughter hunts and that is a lesson she had to learn the hard way." the woman said. "Now lets get you cleaned up!" she concluded before quickly leaving to another room and brought out a mortar and pestle along with a few different colorful herbs. She sat Kavanna down at the table and then went to the seat next to her, sitting and beginning to work what herbs she did have into a salve of sorts. The aroma was beautiful. Kavanna hadn't known what the woman was doing. Once she was done, she spoke, "Alright, show me some of your cuts. This will probably sting a little bit at first, but it will soothe the pain very soon."

Kav did as the woman asked, showing her some of the larger cuts on her arms and legs. The woman began to rub in the salve that she created with the herbs, which did sting a little, but within moments soothed most of her aches. Wow, what a concept. Healing with herbs wasn't something that people did nowadays. Obviously some did, but they weren't as trusted as a regular healer or anything. Though healers could sometimes be expensive visits if they were really good.

Within about a half hour, the woman was fully done crushing her herbs and putting the result onto Kavanna's cuts and scrapes. The wounds all felt quite nice now. They didn't sting or hurt nearly as bad as they did before the salve was placed upon them. "Wow, this feels better already! Where did you learn to do this?" Kavanna asked.

"Well, when I was young, my mother wanted me to grow up to be a healer just like her. She taught me one of the more valuable lessons to healing. You don't need magic to heal, all you need is the herbs around you. That was almost like her motto. So I kept with it. I eventually went to academy and became a healer anyway, but herb healing in addition to magical healing was really all very necessary. Magical healing is great, but it wears a person down. If you have a readily accessible vault of herbs, and you know their properties, you can do just about anything. I have really relied heavily on my knowledge of alchemy in the past. It's just a hobby but it has helped me with my son's cuts and my daughter's wounds. It's just handy knowledge to know. How would you like to learn a bit? Naomi said.

Kavanna took all what the woman said in and smiled, nodding. It would be nice to know. "You know what, I would love to learn. Thank you." she responded with a smile.

'Great! You'll stay with me for a bit before returning to the Celestial Plane than? I would adore the company." she asked.

Kavanna hadn't yet realized that she would need to stay with Naomi in order for this training to occur, but that was totally fine, she had healed her and given her a lot to think about. Being a healer was definitely what Kavanna wanted to do now. "Oh...umm...of course I will! Thank you for offering to teach me!" Kavanna said with a smile.

The two agreed upon Kavanna staying about a week, then returning to the fortress. In that time, she learned the ways of herbal healing through alchemy. Of course, she didn't know too much, but that would change as she would definitely return to her now, dear friend's abode.

This was definitely going to be the blooming of an extraordinary friendship.

» mission #003

After a successful dragon hunt, Kavanna made her way back to the living place of her new found friend, Naomi. She had her dragon orb in hand, ready to go back to the place she found solace at. What a day it had been. On her walk back to the cabin, she decided to pull out her notepad and scribble some of her feelings down quickly.

xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

Excited. Happy. Content. Confident. Powerful. Deadly.

Those are the exact emotions I feel at this very moment. My power seems to be strengthening by the day and I can just feel myself being overcome with a strange confidence I didn't have before. I'm extremely happy I killed my first dragon. I couldn't have done it without the help of Naomi, however. She gave me the confidence boost I needed. Now it's time to get back to the Celestial Fortress and speak with Marcus about my adventure.

» marcus ysaride

It had been a week since Kavanna was last seen in the fortress. She was planning on going to tell Marcus Ysaride about her discovery of dragon communication. Kav was quite proud of herself that she had defeated that dragon in the morning. Everything seemed to go her way at this point.

When she got back to Naomi's cottage, the two said their goodbyes and parted ways. Kav was given control over Naomi's boat for her trek back to the fortress through the Celestial Vortex. Of course Kav was sad that she had to leave, but she knew it was what needed to occur. Her time spent with Naomi was magical to say the least. The two shared some good times picking herbs within that past week, and Kavanna had learned a lot more than she had ever expected to.

Hours went by and finally, the colorful waves of the vortex were visible. It was only a matter of time before she would be sucked into the middle and teleported back to the Celestial Plane. She was excited to see Marcus and show him her discovery.

As expected, the allotted time had passed and her boat was beginning to be sucked towards the middle of the vortex. A flurry of color spun around her as she suddenly saw a bright light, and then a dim shadow. The next thing she knew, she opened her eyes and there she stood, alone, in the middle of the summoning circle in the center of the Celestial Fortress.

Kav ran as fast as she could towards Marcus' room. "Master Ysaride! Master Ysaride! I need to talk to you!" Kav cried out, pounding on the door to his personal bedroom.

"What is it child!? I'm a very busy man!" the Dovaa scoffed, swinging the door open quickly, a glare in his eye.

"Master Ysaride! Thank the gods you are here. I have some fascinating news to tell you! I want to be a Ysali Dovaa! Oh! And did you know that dragons can actually communicate to us mentally? And that the-" was all she could say before she was interrupted.

"That is what you had to tell me? Of course dragons communicate that way. Telepathy between Dovaa and Dragons isn't uncommon at all. Their blood runs through our veins. Dragons communicate easily with themselves through this process and sometimes Dovaa can listen to them talk as well. You just have to be listening. Now please, get on your way. I have to get back to my studies." he said, very uninterested and almost disgusted with her frantic actions.

Kavanna rose a brow. "I came all the way here to be talked to like that? Marcus Ysaride, just because you are in charge does not give you the right to treat everyone like their cares don't matter!" she said aloud, almost half regretting it the moment she realized what she had just done.

Marcus was a bit infuriated with the girl. "How dare you talk to the leader of the Dovaa in such a disrespecting way! Get out of my sight you little twit I have much more important matters to attend to." Marcus shouted at the girl before slamming the door in her face.

Kavanna was blood red in the face, not because of anger, but because of embarrassment. She couldn't believe what she had just done. Yelled at Marcus Ysaride? He could kill her in an instant and be done with it. She was just standing in amazement outside Marcus' door for about three or more minutes before deciding to go back to her own room. What had she done!?

It wasn't long before she had made her way back to her little dorm room. Well, her meeting with Marcus wasn't all that she expected it to be. How could it after all? She hadn't expected herself to get so angry and throw a fit in front of someone like that. Especially that someone being Marcus Ysaride!

That night, all she could do is stare at her ceiling in awe of what had just occurred. She was still furious, but she knew she wouldn't be able to beat Marcus for anything. Though, she realized how the leader of the Dovaa really acted. He seemed almost like a heartless b*****d. That wasn't someone that Kavanna wanted to spend time with. Luckily, she only needed to prove herself as a Year One by giving him a couple dragon orbs. But that meant another Dragon Hunt was in order soon enough. Hopefully after that, he would forgive her outrageous outburst and the two could be at peace.

» to be ysali or not

Her mind was made up. Life was going to get so much better from here on out. Kavanna had finally decided which path she would take. Her first dragon battles led her to the strong Ysali dragons. Those of which were easily overcome after after she gathered the confidence. She then decided to take on the life of a Ysali Dovaa. That was her plan anyway. Now it was just time to make it public.

In the Dovaa community, when a child had finally made up their mind as to which clan they would take, the child would tell Marcus Ysaride, who in turn would send an announcement to the rest of the school as a congratulatory sign. But today of all days was a special one in their classes. Reason being because Kavanna's name would be in the announcements this morning. She made a point to be at school all day today just so she could hear her name being called. That night she would meet with Marcus for the second time after her embarrassing encounter the first a few days prior to her final decision.

All day she waited for the Dovaa Clan Announcements as they were called to arrive to her classroom where her professor would tell the class of any students who had finally made their decision.

Finally, during her history session mid afternoon, a little Dovaa girl came running into the class with a piece of light brown parchment which she handed over to the teacher. A quick bow and she then skipped out of the room going onto the next.

Kavanna's history professor looked over the paper with his large glasses and smiled. "Students! We have the Dovaa Clan Announcements in hand! Hmmm it seems we have a few students in our class today who have chosen their clan! A congratulations are in order for the following people: Larry - Peisio, Adrianna - Firani, Sally - Gaili, Arnold - Firani, Damian - Ysali, Corinna - Aiskala, Elda - Firani, and last but not least, Kalvin - Kiandri. Congra-" was all he could say before Kavanna shot up out of her seat.

"Wait! What about me?! I chose my clan yesterday!" Kavanna exclaimed.

"Oh, I'm sorry Ms. Kaalia, it doesn't seem like your name is on this list." the professor said.

Kavanna shot the man a look of utter annoyance. How could that be? Her name not on the list? She had just said she wanted to be a Ysali Dovaa to her administration the day before. Tonight was supposed to be the ceremony of her receiving her clan by the head Ysali professor! What was going to happen now? Her name was not on the list!? That was so infuriating. How could they leave her name out like that? This was something she would definitely need to talk to the administration about as soon as possible!

It was then that she stormed out of the classroom, obviously upset and thus her teacher allowed her to leave without asking any questions.

The girl stormed through the halls of the old fortress towards the administration office. She was not happy, and she wanted her name to be on the list. Bursting through the door, she went right up to the lady at the front. "Excuse me...I'm Kavanna Kaalia, and I want to know exactly why you guys didn't put my name in the DCA today!"

The woman's eyes blinked, unaware of who this little Dovaa really was. She nodded without saying a word and got up from her seat, leaving towards an office door in the back.

Kavanna felt empowered at that moment. That b***h better be getting to the bottom of it, that's for sure. When Kavanna was angry, there wasn't anything stopping her. When people were nice, it kind of seemed to lift Kavanna's spirits, but when they were dumb enough to leave her name out of the DCA, there was going to be some bloodshed. Her short fuse made it hard to get along with people, but when they were abundantly nice to her, like Naomi was, she couldn't help but feel an attraction towards those kinds of people. Naomi was never annoying or angry, she was just loving and caring constantly. Those were the kinds of people Kavanna vowed she would keep by her side.

Within a few minutes, the woman returned with a strange look on her face. "Well, it seems Marcus Ysaride knew you would be coming to the office and asking about this and if you had, this is the letter he wanted us to give to you." she said, holding out the letter addressed to "Kavanna Kaalia" on the front.

Kav's eyes widened drastically. Oh great! He wanted to see her to ream her about her actions the other night. It wasn't going to be pretty either. So many images of what was to come flooded Kav's mind. Was he going to beat her? Kill her? Talk it out with her? Oh dear, who knew honestly. The anxiety of not knowing what may or may not happen was killing her inside already. She took the letter and stuck it in her pocket. Sweating from anxiety, she quickly bowed to the woman in respect and left the office, walking down the empty hallway back towards her class, she fretted opening the letter at all. She left it in her pocket the entire walk there.

When she found herself outside her classroom door, she took a few deep breaths before taking out the letter from her pocket and turning it over to open it. Beads of sweat were just dripping down her face. What did the letter say? What kind of crazy thing did she have to do to redeem herself from that hellish night of showing him such disrespect?

Tearing the letter's envelope and taking out the brown-colored parchment, Kavanna unfolded it with such despair that she felt sick. It read:

Marcus Ysaride's Letter
Kavanna Kaalia,

Come to my abode and speak with me as soon as you receive this letter. I need to talk to you about your actions a few nights ago.

Sincerely,
Marcus Ysaride

It was then that Kavanna knew her death sentence was near. More sweat dropped from her brow. As soon as she received the letter? That's when he wanted to see her? Well, if that was the case, than she would have to go right now. She stuffed the letter into her pocket, not caring if it was torn or bent in the process, and ran down the hallway towards the stairs, where she then ran up the few flights that it was before reaching the top floor. This floor, was where Marcus Ysaride abides.

Kavanna slowly walked up to the door and knocked softly. After a few moments, nothing happened. So her shaky hand crept closer to the door yet again and this time a harder knock ensued. This time, the tall man with blue hair and fierce blue eyes swung the door open.

"You made it. Welcome to my abode, Kavanna. Please, come sit." he said calmly. What was he doing? Was this a ploy to attract her in and then kill her while everyone else has no idea what's going on? She entered, looking around and walking over to the large couch.

"Th-thank you s-so much for inviting me, Master Ysaride." Kavanna said with a bow before she sat on the couch.

Marcus nodded with a smile. "You see, the reason I requested you come here yourself was because I knew you had a special way about you. I've never seen such a devoted dragon hunter. You even scared the dragon enough for it to communicate with you. I'm sorry for the way I acted the other night, so uncaring and unfeeling. I was just terribly busy with everything I had to do. Now, I want to welcome you into the Dovaa community firsthand. You wanted to be a Ysali Dovaa, yes?" he said.

Kavanna couldn't believe what she had just heard. Was he apologizing to her!? That was absurd. He had no reason to apologize! It was totally her fault for even coming up to bother him in the first place! She should be the one apologizing. "Oh no! It was totally my fault! I should have known you were busy, and I shouldn't have forced you to speak with me on such short notice, sir. I'm really very sorry for how I disrespected you. But thank you so much for your apology, sir. It means a lot to me. I've always looked up to you, being the leader of the Dovaa and all. Ple-" she began, but was interrupted by Marcus' laughter.

"Don't be sorry. You were just curious and excited, it's really nothing to get too worked up about." he said with a kind smile. Maybe Marcus wasn't so bad after all. Of course, her first impression wasn't the best, but he had always seemed nice to the other students, that's kind of what surprised Kavanna so much the other night.

"Thank you...and yes, I did decide that I wanted to be a Ysali Dovaa." she replied.

A quiet chuckle emerged from the leader's mouth. "Ahh yes, a Ysali Dovaa it is. I'll be right back." he said with a smile, leaving the room for just a moment only to return with a large green orb.

"See, unlike the other races of this world, we Dovaa use the souls we acquire from our youth to create these large powerful orbs which are used when Year One Dovaa are choosing their clan. The other races use them as a sign of power, a badge of honor. We use them to train our Dovaa in these ways. Since you've decided on being a Ysali Dovaa, you can partake in the crushing of this orb. It's filled with immense power, so don't be afraid if you feel a bit overwhelmed just moments after breaking it. Here take it and enjoy." he said, handing her the large bowling ball sized orb.

Kavanna was overjoyed. What was this for? Why didn't he just let her go ahead and do the ceremony like everyone else? Who knew, but she was happy, that much was for sure. "Thank you so very much Master Ysaride! Thank you! Thank you!" she said, setting the orb down and throwing her arms around Marcus for an embrace of gratitude.

"Please, there is no need to thank me. Just take that orb outside on the grounds somewhere, and go practice. Please, take care. And allow the orb to move you to the path which you wish to take." Marcus said smiling.

Kavanna did as she was told. She took the orb, looking into it's beautiful glare and glow the entire way down to the outside.

When she finally made her way to an open area on the field, she closed her eyes and set the orb on the ground, stomping on and shattering the glass-like prism and allowing the green souls to completely surround her and overtake her body. The power she felt then was amazing. Her eyes transformed to a beautiful shade of bright green, her hair even tinted to a slight green as well. Her body felt so strong with the power of a Ysali Dragon. It was definitely overwhelming.

It was done. The transformation was complete. Now she just needed to practice and use all of these new found powers within her. That was going to be her next goal. Mastery of these foreign powers.

» the ways of a ysali dovaa

It had been only a day since her transformation to a Ysali Dovaa. Such power was bestowed upon her by Marcus, she needed an escape. Now it was time for her to truly experience some of her potential powers. She went out deeper into the fields so it was just her, some trees, and the grass.

"Now what can I do?" she said aloud to herself. She knew some of her spells already, since they were imbued into every Ysali Dovaa. Summon Vine > Grasp, Healing Touch, and Life Tap. She knew that once she was stronger she would be able to obtain a stronger spell, the Vine Transport, but that wasn't going to be for a while anyway.

She picked up some leaves on the ground and tossed them as she thought. Maybe, if she could...yes! She had an idea. She took a few leaves from the ground again and held them tightly between her palms. She imbued them with power, sharpening the edges, ahhh, how that was nice. It was a crisp sharp edge. The more jagged the leaf, the more dangerous it could potentially become.

Then, she did some target practice. The leaves were hard and sharp, like little shards of glass. She then threw them as fast as she could towards the tree on the opposite side of that field. After she threw them, she inspected the damage she had caused. Yes! It worked! The tree was cut into by the sharp leaves. Perfect. That was exactly what she wanted.

Next, it was time to see if she could do something else. She summoned her vines, like all Ysali could, and used them to grasp a large rock. The vines picked it up and she forced them to take the rock higher, then she decided to use a slamming motion to make the rock slam down onto the ground, which actually caused it to shatter into a few pieces. Awesome.

There was one more thing that she wanted to learn. Using her vines, instead of grasping an opponent, she wanted to use them as a whip. So she summoned her vines and then with the motion of her arms made the vines start whipping the tree, slapping it over and over. That was also rather nifty. Maybe in the future she could do those other cool tricks that she watched other Ysali Dovaa do.

She just laid on the grass, watching the clouds roll by as she thought about the future attacks she could learn. That cool absorbing skill, the different poisonous strikes she could cause. All it took was her getting up another year or two. Then she would be able to have all the attacks in her arsenal. Hopefully she would be able to control such an immense power someday.

Now she had a few things she knew what to do. Her powers were really working for her. Now she had learned Razor Leaf, Vine Slam (Combined with Summon Vine > Grasp), and Vine Whip. With these additional powers added to her spells, she knew she was more unstoppable now than ever.

xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

I had yet another encounter with a Ysali. They're so alert! He caught me before I had a chance to make my move. But I did overcome him and prevailed. I have his soul now and now I have two souls to give to Marcus to show how powerful I am! I have to do that tomorrow. For now, I've got to find a way back to the Celestial Vortex. I feel as though I'm on top of the world right about now. I can do anything. These new Ysali powers are perfect and exactly what I needed!

» the giving of the orbs

With two orbs in hand, Kavanna knew what time it was. She knew that she needed to get herself to Marcus to hand over her prizes. Two Ysali dragon Orbs were in her pouch and both of those were going to be used to prove that she was a dragon hunter. All she needed to do was get to Marcus.

She had packed up her pouch with the necessities, some fine herbs, her two orbs, as well as her journal and quill. Then she began the trek from the Dwelling Place to the Celestial Fortress. It was always about a three or more hour walk if you take the paths. Any other way and you could very well get lost in it all.

The journey had begun. Obviously there were some Dovaa who were walking passed her on their way to the Dwelling Place while others were walking with her on their way to the fortress as well. It just depended when your classes were and what you needed to study. Not many were probably going to turn in their dragon hunting spoils. That was something reserved for when you were almost ready to graduate. It wasn't long and she knew she was ever so close to being a Year 2. It wouldn't be long now. She had already chosen and obtained her title as a Ysali Clan member as well as been in a few dragon hunts already. She just needed to get a little more experience from dragon hunting or battling other people before her teachers and Marcus would deem her ready to move forward.

It was almost her time, however. Soon, she wouldn't be new to the fortress at all, she would be a step up and able to do more travelling with groups. She did need more friends. Kav wasn't the most friendly Dovaa in school, thus friendships didn't really come easily to her. All of these different things flooded her mind on her walk to the fortress.

Within the few hours time, she had finally made it to her destination. The fortress was just ahead and she knew that once she handed over the orbs, Marcus would be able to put her into Year 2 school quite soon. It was only a matter of time.

Kavanna made her way up to the top of the Fortress, where Marcus was surely in his home. A soft knock could be heard on Marcus' door. Suddenly a tall Dovaa opened the door with a smile. "Ah, Kavanna, come in come in. How are your Ysali powers? Have you had the chance to test them out?" he asked.

"Yes, I have. They're wonderful, thank you so much for the opportunity to become a Ysali Dovaa. Now, I have something for you." she said, slowing making her way through her pouch to find the orbs stashed away in there somewhere.

Marcus had a soft, kind smile on his face now. He knew what she was doing. He was happy that she had taken the time to gather the orbs in the first place.

"Aha! Here we are! See, two orbs. Now I'm even closer to being able to graduate." she said with a smile, handing the orbs with outstretched hands towards Marcus.

"Perfect. Now I can take these and add them to the collection. Thank you for the donation. I can see that you are getting very strong. Keep at it, and I'm sure you'll be able to continue on into your future with great strength." he said with a smile. He did know that Kavanna had been trying extremely hard lately to do her best with her dragon hunts.

Kavanna bowed before her leader. "Thank you so much! I cannot wait to make you proud Master Ysaride!" she said with a huge smile on her face. She then quickly bowed and left the man to do his work.

On her way home, she realized how close she truly was to becoming a year two Dovaa. Day after day her dream was becoming just bit by bit more realized.

» to serenia again

After finally making it back to the Celestial Fortress, Kavanna pulled out of her pouch, that same journal that she had been using since her first day on the campus. She also took out a quill and began to write.

Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

I was able to meet some of Naomi's children today. Her daughters. Alora and Anna. They were definitely a couple of characters. Alora is so kind and caring, just like Naomi. But Anna is a definite b***h. I don't know where she gets off telling me I'm puny and weak. I killed a Ysali Dragon before she did, and she's way older than I am. I don't understand. She's just a lost cause I guess. I don't see how I remind Naomi of her. We have absolutely nothing in common. She's a b***h, I don't view myself as one. Whatever, I still love Naomi, even if she does have a rotten daughter.

» where the dragons dwell
xxxxxKavanna vs Elleth

Arriving home from her trip to Soudul, Kavanna decided to take out her quill and notepad and write.

Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

Oh, how Oblivionites really bother me. I cannot stand them. They're so infuriating. I came across one today while I was travelling around Soudul. I just told her to stay out of my way and she didn't, so I was forced to beat her. Can't say I was disappointed about that though. She deserved it, there is no doubt about that. Now I can at least know how weak that race is. I think I actually disliked that girl more than I disliked Anna on our first meeting. I don't know how that can be possible, but it most definitely is.

» dovaa showdown!
xxxxxKavanna vs Samril

It wasn't long after she had left the field that she had gotten back to her dorm room in the Dwelling Place for the Dovaa. Kav was quite proud of herself for beating Samril in that duel. It was rather nice to have that win under her belt. She knew her brother's would be proud. And her father, oh how she missed them, but that wasn't exactly what was on her mind. She needed to record the day's events before they were lost in the sea of her memories.

Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,

Samril, another Dovaa in one of my classes, caught me after class and asked to spar. I didn't really know who he was, but took him up on the offer. We went to the field and began. It was tough, but I prevailed. So now I can say I'm stronger than him at least. But I rather liked him. He was kind about everything, he wasn't anything like that stupid Oblivionite I fought the other day. At least this was just for fun. Well, I sure do hope I am able to meet up with him again someday. Maybe spar once more.

» a call from home

Kavanna went home after a long day of classes to her empty dorm room in the Dwelling Place. Everything was as it should be. The hour of her graduation into the next year was inevitable. She just had to prove that she was ready to move forward by gathering more experience.

When she arrived home, she went inside and on her floor was a golden brown envelope with her name on the front and her family's seal on the back side. "Oh great. A family gathering." she said with a heavy sigh before opening the letter. Inside was a brown piece of parchment. Of course upon inspection it did say that she needed to come home for their annual get together.

Kavanna threw the parchment on the bedside table and flopped upon her bed, looking at the ceiling. "I do not want to go. Not one bit. It's not like they are going to care if I go or not anyway. Well it's only for a few days. Can't be that bad, right?" she said aloud to herself, almost as if to talk herself into or out of going. She hated going home, she loved the independence she got from this place and the fact that she didn't get along with a specific family member made things a bit harder when returning home. They needed to arrive within the days time.

That night she packed her things and was ready to go. After a good nights rest, she awoke and grabbed what few things she had decided to grab and made her way towards Astral City, where her family lived. She had a knot in her stomach the entire walk there.

The family lived on a little deserted piece of land only a mile outside of town on the northern side. It was desolate out there, but her father and mother loved it. Kavanna liked being out in the more public of places.

As she was making her way down the beaten path towards her family's abode, she noticed her little brothers both playing outside before she was spotted by one of the twins. "Kav! It's you! Karak, Kav's home!" cried out one of the brothers.

"Whoa! Kav it's really you! It's been so long!" the other exclaimed. Both brothers ran as fast as they could toward Kavanna as she smiled brightly, happy to see them both.

"Karst, Karak, it's great to see you both! It has been quite some time but I'm glad to be home." she said hugging both of her brothers at once. Sincerity only slightly coming through with a more nervous tone than anything. The only reason she said such a thing was because she didn't want to give her younger brothers any worries.

"Duuuuude! Look at her eyes! They're green now! She's chosen her clan!" Karak said, jumping up and down quickly.

"Wow! Kav you chose Ysali! Oooooh, you're going to be in trouble though. Mom and dad won't be happy to see you've made a decision without consulting with them first." Karst said with a worried expression.

A quick nod was followed by the other brother with an expression similar to his twin.

Kavanna sighed, not relieved much to hear that. She knew that she would definitely hear it from both of her parents. She wasn't looking forward to that. Then a brighter thought occurred in her mind. "Is Kaylen home yet?" she asked the twins.

Both of them nodded together in unison, pointing to the front door. "He's inside talking with mom. Dad will be home a little later. He went to go buy some food for dinner. We're having mom's famous broiled dragon scales tonight. Mmmm! So deliciously good!" he said with a huge smile.

The other brother laughed. "Naaah! Dad's roasted dragon tongues are waaaaaay better!" he said with a small chuckle, his arm crossing his whole body in the air at the 'way'.

"Well, I'm just glad we're having both tonight haha!" Karst said. "Come on Kav! Lets go inside!" he concluded.

Kav felt a lump in her throat at that very moment. Ugh, here goes the meeting she was dreading. Slowly she picked up her belongings off of the ground that she had thrown there to embrace her brothers. Then she made her way after her skipping and running brothers towards the house.

The door burst open with the twins running inside extremely excited. "Guess what mom! Kav's home! Haha!" Karst said with a grand smile. The two brothers ran straight through the kitchen to go play games in the living area.

Kav walked inside slowly, closing the door as she entered and setting her things on the table. "Hello mother." she said quietly, a look of annoyance upon her countenance.

Her mother was washing dishes, not even acknowledging the fact that her only daughter had arrived home. When she was finished with her current dish, she began to dry her hands off on a towel, which at that point she turned around to see Kav still waiting for a response.

"I see you got my letter. Take your things upstairs, I don't want them left on the table. Can't have you leaving your things around my house as soon as you arrive for a visit, can we?" she said as she quickly turned back around to finish drying another dish she had left in the sink.

Kavanna rolled her eyes. "Yes mother. It's very nice to see you too." She said with a sigh. She grabbed her pouch angrily and left the kitchen at that moment. Walking upstairs, she saw all of the pictures her mother had hung on the wall. It was mostly of her little twin brothers, but every now and again you would see one of her and her older brother, Kaylen.

As she arrived in the room she would be staying at for the next few days, she plopped on the bed, leaving her belongings on the bedside table. She just closed her eyes until she heard a knock at the door, which made her shoot straight up.

"No hello for your older brother? How rude! Hahah." he said with a smile, leaning up against the door frame, standing up straight as he said that.

"Kaylen! Oh I'm really happy to see you!" she said, jumping up off the bed and wrapping her arms around her older brother in a loving embrace. "How have you been!? I don't see you around the fortress much at all lately!" she asked with a bright smile.

"I'm really good! I know we've been really bus-whoooa! Your eyes! You didn't tell me you had chosen your clan! Oh mom and dad are going to be pissed! She didn't notice yet, did she? I would have heard her screaming at you all the way up in my room if that were the case." he said, surprised and thankful to see his sister.

"Not yet. I'm glad she didn't either. The b***h doesn't need to know anything about my life. The only reason she's in it is because of you guys. I don't care what happens to her either way." Kavanna hissed. She hated her mother with a passion. She was only civil for the twin's sake.

"Kav, you shouldn't talk like that. She's still our mother after all. I know she doesn't treat you right but you should be the bigger Dovaa and just let what she does slide right passed. I'm sure-" he began, but was cut off mid sentence.

"Slide right passed!? Kaylen you've seen how she treats me! I don't do anything to her and I'm her little punching bag! I don't deserve that and you know it! Please, don't try to defend her to me. She won't change, she never has and never will. So I just have to live with that, deal with her my own way and move on." Kavanna spouted angrily.

Kaylen sighed and gave a crooked smile. "Kav, all that matters is that we're all here. Lets try to make the best of it, okay? I love you." he said, wrapping his arms around his sister again for yet another hug.

"You're right. I love you too, thanks." she replied.

Suddenly, a large booming voice bellowed from downstairs. "I'm home! Come give your old man a hug kids!"

A smile grew on both of the Dovaa's faces. Then a pat on the back and they were both heading down to see the large hulky man stand before them.

"Daddy!" Kavanna said with a huge smile, running into her father's arms.

"Ohhh my dear Kavanna! How I've missed you! And son! How are you two do-WHAT!? KAVANNA!?! YOUR EYES!!! THEY'RE GREEN!" his tone, surprised.

The pattering of little feet came up behind their father both brothers standing on either side, both with nervous faces. Their mother came running in as well when she heard the yelling. "Kavanna!? Oh dear gods! What is the meaning of this nonsense! You didn't even consult us first! You just went ahead and chose a life of a Ysali!? The weakest race among the dragons!? How could you be such a disappointment to us all! I cannot believe your stupidity! You are such a stupid-" her mother began, but was interrupted by her father's booming voice. "Kathreen! Calm yourself down." her father said. The entire family was in shock.

Kathreen glared at the girl, tears welling up in her eyes as she turned around and left the room quickly back to the kitchen. Soft sobs could be heard from that direction as the rest of the family just looked at their father's disappointed facial expression. "I'm sorry Kavanna. Your mother didn't mean what she said. But you really should have considered talking with us first before making such a life changing decision." her father said.

"I know dad, I really should have. But obviously you can see how it turned out. Mom is disappointed, you're disappointed. But this is really what I wanted to do. I really wanted to be a Ysali Dovaa, and that is exactly what I made happen. It was my decision and I'm stuck with it. Please try to understand." she said, tears slowly falling down her face as well. Her younger brothers had slowly made their way back into the living room while her older brother stood behind her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Dad, she's right. If that is truly what she wanted, she would have done it either way. No use getting upset about it now. I'll go talk to mom." he said, giving a little side hug to his sister before leaving the room after his mother.

"Your brother is right. I'm sorry for acting so surprised. I'm very happy you've made a decision. Haha and now we have a healer in the house! Congratulations sweet heart. I'm proud of you." her father said, taking her in another warm embrace. Her tears faded slowly as she had received her father's approval. She knew what he had said about her mother not meaning any of it was complete bullshit. Her mother meant every word. But she would respect her mother, or try to to the best of her ability while she stayed under their roof.

"Thanks daddy. I knew you would understand." she said with a smile when the hug was completed.

Kav could hear the murmurs of her mother and brother's conversation from the kitchen in the silence of the sitting room. "Come on, lets go get this food started, shall we?" her father said as he walked into the kitchen. She didn't want to follow only because her mother was sobbing at the kitchen table, of course, everything had to be about her. She could hear her father's voice as she watched him crouch over her. With a whispered tone, he apologized to her for yelling and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Kav was disgusted with how her father patronized her so. She deserved to be yelled at. Kav knew she wasn't going to be getting an apology out of her mother for the nasty words she spewed at her. It was a hopeless case. Her brother was also in there trying to console her, that made her even more sick. Everything had to be about Kathreen.

Kavanna scoffed a bit before going into the living room to find her brothers both playing some sort of game they had made up on the floor. She sat down in one of the chairs and slowly began to feel herself slipping into unconsciousness.

What seemed to be a few moments later, she was startled awake. "Kav! Wake up! Dinner's ready!" Karst called with a smile from above her. As her eyes shot open and a glare was instantly replaced by her peaceful sleeping eyes. She rubbed her face a bit before standing up in a stretch.

Kav made her way slowly to the kitchen after her bouncing little brother. The whole family was already seated and ready to eat. The look her mother shot her while she walked in was cold enough to kill. All Kav could do was roll her eyes before she sat.

"Mmm! Great broiled dragon scales mommy!" Karst said with enthusiasm.

"Yeah! And these roasted dragon tongues too dad! Mmmm...the best in all of Magesc!" Karak continued.

"I do have to say I agree. Your guys cooking is always so great!" Kaylen added.

"Haha, we do seem to make a great team, don't we dear." Kavva said, bending over towards Kathreen and giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"Of course we do dear. I have always thought that." she responded with the same action. The two giggled ever so softly as the entire table was quietly eating their meal.

Kavanna stayed quiet the entire time.

"Oh! Kaylen, how do you like being out on your own? Enjoying the fortress and all of its splendor?" their mother asked very inquisitively and happily.

"I love it. I miss being here with you guys, but at the same time, I'm learning so much. Ayrala Dovaa are very strong, and once I master these powers, I am sure I'll be able to do even more." Kaylen said with a chuckle.

"That's great honey! We're so proud of you! Keep up the good work!"

"How about you Kav? You live there too now, what is your favorite part?" Kaylen passed the same question over to his sister, who was quietly picking at her food, not touching much of it at all.

Before responding, Kavanna looked at her mother, who rolled her eyes when the question was passed forward. "Well I do enjoy-" Kav began quietly before she was rudely interrupted.

"Ohhh! I almost forgot! I have a surprise for everyone for dessert. Nana Leeann's Hommingberry Cake!" she said, getting up out of her seat and walking over to the refrigerator.

"Oh how delicious!" the twins exclaimed at the same time.

Kavanna just sent a glare towards her mother that then was transferred to her older brother. Kaylen shook his head and mouthed 'I'm sorry' crossing his arms in the process.

Kathreen brought back to the table a large rectangular pan filled to the brim with dark red cake, coated with what seemed to be some black frosting. Kavanna had to admit it was delicious, but the fact that her mother interrupted her just as she was trying to say something was the rudest thing.

The twins instantly began to dig into the dessert. It was their favorite. Kavanna just stood from the table, saying, "I'll be in my room." before getting up and leaving upstairs.

As she was leaving, she could hear her mother's voice, "Well if I ever...that girl needs to learn some manners." which just caused Kavanna to roll her eyes and clench her fists, stopping on the stair she was on. She wanted to punch that woman in the face for all of her stupid comments. She then continued on her way up to her room.

"I'll be right back." Kaylen said, also getting up from his seat and following after Kav.

"Kaylen no! You can't leave. Please, sit back dow-" Kathreen began before she was interrupted by Kavva. "Honey, just let him go. He will be right back." he said, patting her arm and going back to eating his food. A sigh from his mother was the last thing he heard before leaving the room.

Kaylen followed Kavanna upstairs, who was sitting on her bed almost in tears. As he entered, she shot up, rolled her eyes and laid back down. "Why does she treat me like that? What in the gods names did I do to her?" she asked her older brother.

He sat on the bed next to her and shook his head. "Honestly, I don't have the slightest clue. That's just her, though. You'll have to accept her how she is." he said.

"Oh, so I have to accept her but she doesn't have to accept me? How is that fair?"

"It's not, but she'll realize one day what kind of relationship she's missing out on with you. It'll just take time."

"Yeah, but that's something I don't even care about. I just wish she would leave me alone to live my life the way I want to."

"I understand, and I'm sorry she treats you that way. You're right, it's not right for her to expect things of you and to treat you the way she does."

"At least you get it. Now I just need dad to understand."

"I think he does, he's just not ready to admit that his wife hates his daughter and vice versa. He wants to keep this family as strong as possible. That's his main goal, I'm sure of it. And he doesn't know how to do that with you two bickering at each other every time you come for a visit."

"That isn't my fault though, that's her fault for pushing me away like she does. Ugh! She's just such a b***h. Whatever, I am through with her. As long as I have you, dad, and the twins on my side, I don't care what happens." she concluded.

Kaylen pat his sister on the shoulder, gave her a crooked smile. "Well, you always have me. That's for damn sure." he said, wrapping his hands around his sister. "I'm going to go back down for a bit, want to come?" he asked, standing up, making his way towards her door.

"No, thanks, I'll just stay up here for the night." she responded.

"Suit yourself." he said, leaving the room, waving his arm at her as he did.

The rest of the night was silent as everyone did their own things. Kavanna slowly fell asleep as the night fell upon the household.

~~~THE NEXT DAY~~~
Kathreen came into Kavanna's room early the next morning and threw a towel on her face, waking her up instantly. "Get up and get ready. We're going into town. Your father would be disappointed if you weren't there. So hurry up." she said before leaving the room without a response from the frustrated daughter.
Kavanna sat up and threw the towel to the floor. She needed to get ready for the day, but the way her mother acted towards her, so cold, so cruel, it was as though she didn't matter whatsoever. With a roll of her eyes she stood and made her way towards the upstairs bathroom.
Splashing water in her face to wake up, she figured it would be best to just take her mother's advice and get ready. She didn't want to disappoint her father after all. And being there would get on her mother's nerves. It was as though she was killing two birds with one stone so to say.
Taking a rather quick shower and getting ready quicker than most other girls, she ran speedily down the stairs to the kitchen, where the twins were eating breakfast.
"G'morning sis! How'd ya sleep!?" came the excited voice of her youngest brother.
"Yeah! Tell us! I want to hear!" said the other.
"It was alright, what about you two? I heard Karak snoring through the wall as usual, hehe." she giggled, picking fun at her younger brother.
"Hey! It's not my fault I snore! I can't help that!" he cried.
"Haha! Yeah he did! Like a train!" his twin jeered.
Karak became frustrated and looked with anger towards his siblings as they laughed.
"Oh Karak, you know we're just teasing you. I love you." Kavanna said as she made her way passed her younger brothers, ruffling the hair of the one they were making fun of.
"Yeah, bro, we still love you!" Karst said with a large grin and a chuckle.
Kavanna made her way through the cupboards looking for something to eat. Suddenly, she heard the footsteps of her father coming into the room.
"Oh, good morning daddy! How are you doing today?" Kav said as she ran over to her father's side to give him a hug.
"Doing quite well, sweet heart. How're you? You sleep alright in your old bed?" he asked curiously. After hugging his daughter, he made his way to his two sons who he patted on head, keeping his eye on the one he called sweet heart.
"It was alright, until mother came in this morning and threw a towel at my face to wake me. I cannot believe her." her voice sounding annoyed.
"I'm sure your mother means well. She is just really frustrated with things here at home." he replied.
"Yeah, by things you mean me. Dad, I really don't understand what I did to make her hate me so much." she said, implying some sadness.
"She doesn't hate you at all. She loves you very much, Kavanna. She just gets frustrated at the household chores and things she has to do." he said.
"Why do you always take her side!? Do you not see how she treats me!? Whatever. I'm so out of here. Good bye father. Have a good rest of your weekend." she said, making her way angrily to her bedroom to pack up the rest of her stuff.
Within moments, her older brother, Kaylen arrived. "What was that all about? I heard you yelling at father, and now you're in here packing up your things? Are you seriously leaving?" he asked inquisitively
"Yes, Kaylen, I'm leaving and there isn't anything you or anyone else can say to stop me. I can't stand it here. He doesn't understand how it makes me feel, and she gets her way with him every time. I'm tired of it and I just want to go home, so let me go home." she said, tears streaming down her face.
"Kav, you are home." was all he could say before she threw her voice in the mix.
"No! This is not my home! My home is at the Dwelling Place. If you want to come by my place and visit, be my guest, but I won't be coming back here anytime soon." she said, finishing the last of her packing and moving passed her brother out the door, storming down the stairs.
All Kaylen could do was sigh as she left.
As she passed her brothers, she gave each of them a hug, saying, "If you want to come visit me, I'll be at my dorm room, have Kaylen bring you sometime, okay? I love you. I'll see you guys later."
"Bye Kav, I'll miss you. Love you too." Karst said, a few tears welling up in his eyes after she left him with her hug.
"Yeah, I love you too, sis. Come back soon. I don't want you to go though. You just got here." her other younger brother said, patting his twin on the shoulder as the two watched her leave the house. Kavanna then made her way out the door she had first entered into.
Outside, her mother was about to come in. "And where do you think you're going, young lady!?" her mother exclaimed.
"Anywhere to get away from you, b***h." she said, not regretting a word. She hadn't ever used that kind of language in front of her mother before, but she had had it. Her anger level was over the roof.
"Kavanna Kaalia! You don't say something that vulgar to me and get away with it!" she said, electricity spouting from her fingertips towards the ground. Kathreen then threw her hand in Kav's direction with a heavy grunt, electricity blasting off towards her.
Kavanna heard the shock being delivered, but as she turned around, her father was in the way, taking the blow. "Kathreen! Stop that this instant! Let her go. She needs time to cool off. Come inside." he said, wiping away the dead skin.
Kavanna rolled her eyes and continued on her way towards the Dwelling Place. That was her home now, not this hell hole. She wouldn't be back for a while, that was for sure.
"Goodbye family. Maybe one day we can get together and mother won't be around to ruin our fun. Maybe one day..." she said with a heavy sigh, still walking straight towards Astral City.
Kavanna had made it home late in the night, but wanted to catalog everything that had happened during her fight with the Ysali.
Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,
Another fight with a dragon today and another orb collected. I'm already on the verge of getting stronger. I think I'm finally ready to take on another type of dragon...the Ayrala is next. I'm going to travel to the continent of Ayr in the next week. That'll be my next mission. To kill an Ayrala dragon for its orb.
» to ayr
Finally getting home from Ayr, Kavanna took out her journal like she always did after a dragon hunt to write down her results.
Journal Entry
xxxxx∂εαя נѳυяиαℓ,
I can't believe I defeated an Ayrala dragon today! It was crazy. I didn't think I was going to be able to do it, but I did! I'm so proud of myself. All I need is more experience, but I think that I'm getting closer and closer to being able to graduate! That's for sure. How awesome! I am so excited. My dad will be even more proud of me than he already is. I promise you that, journal. I promise you that.
