Even though this is not the actual TDM thread, the same rules apply here. So be sure to follow them please.

In addition to those rules, here are a few more that apply directly to our team thread:
1. Please attempt to type normally. (aka no txt talk please! Spelling errors are understandable. I make them myself all the time and I'm a college graduate. ^^;; )
2. Please don't spam or advertise in the thread (unless it is part of your post code). If you'd like your art shop, charity, etc. to become an affiliate of the team, simply pm me and I will be happy to add an affiliate section to our team thread.
3. Keep bumping to a minimum. If you're the only one around and our team thread is at the bottom, feel free to bump it up but don't obsessively do it. It will not be rewarded.
4. Please don't beg for gold. Instead enter one or several of the team or event contests. ^^ They all ask reasonably simple things of you, and you have a chance to win gold or an awesome prize plus, you won't annoy anyone.
Note: There is a chance that other rules will appear if problems occur.

Note that September is Lymphoma Awareness month. This post will be edited to contain a greater wealth of information later as presently I am a bit tired and stressed with other things. >.< So a special thanks goes to last years captain, Keynir, for letting me copy and paste his information.
What is Lymphoma?
- Lymphoma is a cancer in the lymphatic cells of the immune system. These cells often
- originate in the lymph nodes making the nodes enlarge which creates a tumor. Sometimes
- lymphoma can also spread to other organs, this is called extranodal lymphoma.
What causes it?
- - The causes are actually not very clear, mostly due lack of funds for extensive thorough research. There are, however, a few risk factors are confirmed:
- Chemical solvents, primarily benzene but also acetone, various alcohols and turpentine;
- Herbicides and pesticides in food and/or soil contaminating it;
- Hair dyes, mostly the ones manufactured before 1980;
- Links to lymphoma being genetically passed on are unsure.
What are the symptoms?
- Swollen lymph nodes;
- Chest pains;
- Sudden unexplainable weight loss;
- Recurring fevers, especially in combination with other symptoms;
- Fatigue or lackof energy, again significant in combination;
- Rashes;
- Lower back pain, could be caused by expanding lymph nodes;
- Sore lymph nodes after alcohol consumption, by putting a lot of stress on kidneys and liver.
Is it preventable?
Since the cause of lymphoma is still unknown, it is hard to state certain precautions. What is important though, is that if one even thinks one shows signs of it, one immediately has to go to consult a doctor. The earlier lymphoma is diagnosed, the better.

About Your Captain
Because I'm sure by now you are all wondering who I am, my name is Mrs_S_Snape but you can call me Mrs. S, Snape, Snapey or any other variation on my name as long as you okay it with me. This is my 4th year being actively involved with TDM and my third year being an official captain. If you have questions about anything, feel free to send me a private message or leave me a profile comment, though please first check the FAQs posted in the event thread. I'm addicted to Gaia and not in school at the moment, so I should get back to you relatively quickly. I have no immediate connection with lymphoma, I just became attach to the team this year. The real reason I've gotten really involved with TDM is because of my aunt, who passed away in 2010 from colon cancer. I also just found out that one of my best friend's mom (a second mom to me) has breast cancer.
Team Updates
Up in the first post, I will post updates and reminders throughout the month about the goings on for our team as well as the event in general. The latest updates will be at the top of the list and will probably be in a larger font & underlined so that you can tell they are recent.
Team Spirit
One of the many ways that you can participate in this event is to show some team spirit! The guild sponsors a contest in which Blaizekit decides which team has shown the most spirit the entire month and they win at least a $10 donation to a organization that supports that team's type of cancer. If Team Lymphoma wins, I'll personally match Blaizekit's donation.
With that said, one of the many ways you can show some spirit is by equipping some lime green items. Below are a few inexpensive ones that you can purchase from the shops or marketplace.
                
If you are in a sticky situation when it comes to your Gaia finances, just shoot me a private message and I'll help you out. Or you if you like to donate something to the team you can gift it to me but please say that it is a donation otherwise I will think its a present. ^^;;
Another excellent way to show some spirit is to wear a daffodil bouquet! Need an already put together bouquet? Send a trade to the Event Mule labeled Daffodil Bouquet. Also note that the daffodils don't have to be yellow. You can wear the blue and pink ones as well. ^^
Other Events
In previous years, teams have had events in towns. Since I'm not in school, I'd be happy to organize something like this in towns or zOMG or something. It would be open to the entire guild of course. So if you have an idea, let me know!

Follow this link to get to the guild sponsored contests. In addition to those, below are a few team contests we will be having throughout the month. I'd like to also mention the Event Board. There you will find a list of events (and contests too, I think) that are being sponsored by various people as well as teams.
Contest Begins: April 1st
Contest Ends: April 28th
Create a banner for Team Lymphoma. I'd like it to include our support ribbon but it doesn't have too. Entries in this contest will be judged based on how well it is put together and fits with our team. So even if you don't have a lot of experience creating banners (like me), you could still win. Private message me entries with the Subject: Team Lymphoma: Banner, and include your banner (via photobucket or some other online photo hosting site). Since I think fewer people will enter this one, I will allow team members to submit 2 different entries at this point in time.(This is subject to change if we have a lot of entries.) Winners will be chosen by me and several other team captains.
Prizes:
1st Place - Bewitching Minstrel
2nd Place - Kiwi Chocolate Creme
3rd Place - Verde Vixen

Use TekTek to create an avatar that represents Team Lymphoma. Our team color is lime green, so I would suggest using it but it is not required. Since TekTek does not have it so that you can be hold a daffodil bouquet, you can edit the avatar so that it is. But keep edits to a minimum (color changing is fine). I'd like to be able to tell most of the items you used are actually real Gaia items. Send your entry in a private message to me with the subject reading: Team Lymphoma: Avatar with your tekteked avatar in it. One entry per team member allowed. You can edit your entry a maximum of 2 times. Winners will be picked by myself and several other team captains.
Special Note: Avatars submitted to the team avatar contest can also be submitted to the guild contest. For more information follow this link.

The concept of this contest is very simple. If you are the first to post on a page ending in a '0', you'll get 1k or 1,000 gold. If you are the first to post on page ending in a '5', you'll get 500 gold. The winners will be posted down on the contest winners post.
