Irit dragged the body of the otter toward the den where the girls were hidden away. Hidden from everything and everyone. Hopefully. Irit prayed to Hasan to check up on the girls, but she never saw him leave her side. He always traveled with her, somewhere in the area. She couldn't hunt for the girls and guard them at the same time. They were her last living connections to Hasan. If she didn't have them here with her ...

She prayed they were safe, and that they'd be there when she finally arrived with the meat she'd managed to catch. It wasn't a big otter, but it should feed the girls well enough for the night.

"Girls!"

xxxxxAt the call of her mother, Kayitz's eyes quickly flashed open and she sprung to her paws. She tumbled a bit, her head unyielding to the quick change from asleep to jumping-up-awake. After steadying herself, Kayitz directed her paws toward the mouth of the den. As soon as she saw Irit, she yelled "Momma!" and tumbled off toward her mother. Her paws were still unsure and clumsy, and the young cub stumbled a few times on the way to her mother. Only once there did Kayitz notice the otter lying by Irit's side. Her pink eyes glittered excitedly, a smile dancing upon her face. The piece of prey wasn't large, but it was much more than the family had seen recently. Prey was scarce when the weather was so poor, the ground so sodden, and the amount of lions nearby so plenty. So although the prey wasn't that much in the grand scheme of things, it excited Kayitz monumentally.

Before running off to grab the rest of her siblings, Kayitz nudged her mom's leg as a small "thank you"/"I love you" gesture. She smiled up at her mom hopefully, wishing she would smile back for once, before prancing off to grab the others. "Guys guys guys you'll never guess what mom has!" Her grin was wide as she loped around the inside of the den, trying to corral her siblings. Kayitz knew she couldn't eat until everyone was ready, and boy was she impatient for a full tummy.

She had her mother's eyes, and she had her father's accent. Everything about Mal was perfect, and she knew how to flaunt it in the most modest way possible. Her whole essence, was an act- a decoy and though her hardships from losing her father- this act was just a way to shield herself from the pains. Yes, even if she couldn't quite remember him, she missed him. She was daddy's little girl afterall.. and what happened to her father she definitely didn't want to happen to her! So her acts became her, she was the most hungry, the most tired, the most beautiful.. it all sunk in to her head... This was who she was now.

Malkia wasn't a fan of waiting. Her want for food and sleep was the only important things to her, unlike Kayitz, she wouldn't wait for the others.. But again she knew exactly how to get what she wanted.. when mother came home. Her eyes lifted with exhaustion attached to them, the 'baggy eye' effect was close to near perfect now. "Food~ does... does she have it~" She said with a yearning.. and close to near perfect performance.. Lapping her tongue dryly around her lips.. "I can hardly get up.." A whine escaped her.. Which she hadn't tried yet, but when she did, she found the energy way too quickly for her act. So she stumbled forward a bit then quickly tried to regain the loss of balance...

"Kay..." She called out with a light whimper.. Her ears fanned back with a another dry lap of her lips.. Eyes slitted and her body hunched over.

She actually paid no attention to her sister's tumbling. She was used to Malkia just acting the way she did. Ahava was the eldest, and an oddball one at that. She always was made fun of for her heterochromia eye, but she had the best memory of their father. And he once told her that the eye makes her special, different maybe. Out of her sister she was the only one who had their father's half-moon shape over their eye. She was born a few hours before all of her sisters and she always felt like she came from another 'litter'.
She always is worrying and feels the need to express it or sometimes she just shoulders the worry and keeps it inside so their mother doesn't go off grieving about how her daughters were in this situation because of the lack of prey.

Ahava looked up and heard Kayitz, her eyes glimmering a little at the thought of her mother catching something. She moved outside and looked at the otter, she made sure she got out before Malkia decided to claim it all for herself in the name of beauty. Though she did worry about her sisters' claims of exhaustion. She moved to the otter and sat beside her mother and grinned. "Lovely kill ma." She glanced up at her mother. Even though the second one out of the den. Ahava would worry about the others eating before her; she would want them too. She could go off and hunt down a field mouse for her small Juve-self if that's what she needed to do. She also worried about her mother's empty stomach. She would vouch to be the last one to eat for their sakes.

There was little no nothing in that den that Karnia cared about at that moment. She was far to hungry to give a darn about anything unless there was food involved. She joined her tummy in a low growl as she sulked in the corner, her face to the wall, and her eyes narrowed in upset. Sitting there in her quiet corner, she was able to reflect upon her anger, help herself to decide whether the things she found so upsetting were actually worth the upset. In most cases, yes, she was right to fuss - at least in her opinion. No one else's opinion really mattered. But she did have her moments of realization, where she could see that perhaps her sister hadn't really meant to bump into her, or eat a little too loudly.

Little Karnia's ear perked to attention as she herd her Mother's voice, followed by the excitable voice of her sister Kayitz. "It had better be food." She snapped as her sister tumbled by her. "I'm tired of being hungry...

So, so tired.."

Pushing up to her paws, Karnai wadded over to her Mother's side, her expression softer, and wide with semi excitement at the sight of the kill. It wasn't all that big, but what did she care? It was food, and you only needed a little to survive.

Her girls were emerging from the den she'd told them to stay hidden in. A brief relief whispered through Irit at the sight of all her daughters. None of them were missing. Nothing had happened. Their luck, though not great, still held. Irit begged Hasan with her eyes and in her mind to allow it to hold or get better. Their family unit couldn't take any more bad luck.

Kayitz, with her father's eyes, was the first one out. She romped around excitedly, happily and smiled up at Irit.

Irit rtied, really she did. She wanted to smile for her daughters. Laugh for them, but she was barely managing to stay alive, to keep herself fed. And that smile with those eyes tore the pieces of Irit's heart into smaller sharper shards. She felt water wanting to fill and spill, but she wouldn't let it. If that dam ever broke, she'd drown in the tears and sadness. She'd die.

Irit divided the otter into four sections and kept the heart for her own meal. The heart had been Hasan's favorite organ to eat.

She knew she needed to eat, that Ahava would wait til she knew everyone was eating before enjoying her meal. If Ahava didn't eat, one of the other girls would start taking bites out of her meal. She knew they were hungry and didn't blame them, but she needed to make sure they all got some of this food. She didn't know when she'd be able to catch something as bountiful as this, despite it's small size.

Irit doled out the meal as the girls came out, setting them around her as she settled down into a comfortable position to watch them. Each had a equal portion, and no one would fight over the heart.

"Eat slowly girls. You don't want to get sick and lose your stomach."

xxxxxKayitz huffed slightly, frowning at her sisters' bad moods. Although they were all generally good-natured, she just couldn't see why all of them were so grumpy! Kayitz, too, was deprived of food, but she was surviving just fine! It seemed preposterous to her that her sisters were letting such a small thing get to them in such a big way. Shrugging it off, Kayitz pranced back over to her mother's side, placing herself in front of a portion of the otter. Already she could feel herself drooling a bit, and licked her maw with a giggle. "Yeah, Mom, it looks great!" Kayitz grinned up at her mom, nuzzling into her side, before turning her attention back to her food.

The otter looked delicious. Not the greatest of kill, but a really good one considering the circumstances recently. Kayitz was hesitant in eating it, afraid it would disappear too quickly and leave her dissatisfied and needing more. Even if it did, she knew that her mother really wanted for all of her cubs to be okay and well-fed; if it didn't fill her up, Kayitz certainly intended to pretend it did. Glancing around at her siblings, she decided to be the first one to dig in. Shoving her nose down into the meat, she gingerly sunk her teeth into the meat and ripped off a small bite, letting out a low groan. Never had a kill tasted so sweet.

Her pale green eyes just didn't seem satisfied as she looked over the kill. It slightly intoxicated her with rage for the 'pride' that was taking their food, but she said nothing. "Momma~ are you sure this is enough? I'm not gunna die right?" She really was hungry! Already going on her extra fat reserves from when they did eat bountifully. Shaking her head in dismay as she looked down at her food.. The morning was long, and right when that piece hit the front of her paws... She dived in without a second thought. Likely this wasn't enough, and with two bites, it was gone.

It was an otter! Two bites wouldn't fill her... and she only heard her mother's words as she swallowed hard on the second and last bite. Her pale ears hid behind her black hair so stealthly. "I-I-I'm sor-sorry momma..." Her mouth was warmer from the meat but would subside here soon and she couldn't help but pat her tummy.. The growl of it erupted again, first low then heavily as the two bites were JUST not enough for this girl. She would surely be the first to die!

She whispered to herself under her breath..
"Daddy ..find us more food..like you used to." Not knowing the pain it would bring the others and her mother.

Karnia scowled at her siblings as she plopped down before her portion of dinner. Otter eh? While not the most filling or desirable meat in the world, she knew better than to argue. That would hurt her Mother more than her grouchy attitude. Leaning closer to her meat to take in the scent she heard Malkia's response, and rose slowly to stare at her. "No! You aren't going to die Malkia..." She grumbled rolling her eyes and turning back to her food. "You're just going to have to live with being hungry like everyone else."

Leaning over her meal once more, female took her share of meat and attempted to slice it into even smaller portions. Her claws weren't all that sharp, so it wasn't her most successful attempt, but she managed. A brief smile crossed her face as she looked down at her meal, more pieces. Though still the same amount of meat she had learned one thing. Chewing smaller portions for long periods of time helped her belly to fill for a bit longer. She wasn't exactly sure why, but it was much better than whining and crying all the time. Shrugging it off, she bent over her Mother's kill and tore into her first bit of flesh. The taste was unlike any otter she'd had before, and she savored the flavor as best she could, counting her chews as she went along.

xxxxxPinning her ears, Kayitz frowned to herself at her sisters' foul attitude. At least they were getting dinner! Some cubs may actually be starving right now, and they were complaining that all they got was an otter! Preposterous. Following Karnia's lead, Kayitz attempted to use her claws to slice off bits of the small portion of meat she still had left. Freeing a piece, she placed it in her paw and threw it up in the air, eyes crossing as she tried to center her head to catch it in her jaws. Predictably, the slice of meat succeeded in only landing on her shiny black nose. Huffing, Kayitz dropped the piece of meat back onto the cave floor and gingerly took it into her mouth, savoring the flavor of the otter with everything she had.

Finally, Kayitz came up with a comment directed towards her sisters' rudeness. "Starvation's the least of our worries! What about those super scary winged squirrels that are back there? Now those might cause us some trouble!" Her tail flicked toward the back of the cave, referencing a certain creature that Kayitz herself was very fearful of. She honestly couldn't find a reason for them to be there; the monsters, not her family. They flapped their wings a lot and screeched and the only good they did was scaring the cubs senseless. And never was it any kind of fun-scared! It was always a scary, heart-pounding, 'why is this happening to me?'-kind-of-scared. Kayitz definitely saw the monsters as a more worthy topic of worry.

At Malkai's whispered plea, Hasan's phantom seemed to become solid, at least in Irit's mind and heart. She started at him as he stared at her. He was waiting. Patience wasn't really his strong suit. He was going to start pacing soon. Maybe even growl before sulking in the corner like he use to do before the accident. Before he left her. But he hadn't really left her. There he was.

Irit was so absorbed in Hasan's ghost, who indeed did start pacing when he saw she wasn't going to stand and go to him, when she continued to remain froze in her position before the girls, that she didn't hear Karnia's reply or her anger. She just saw Hasan. Heard his ghostly growls and pleas in her mind.

And then the mention of squirrels brought her back to the girls and her duty to them. They needed more food.

"Winged Squirrels?"There wasn't much meat on a flying squirrel, but if Malkia and the others were still hungry, Irit was more than willing to try an catch them. "How many were there, girls?" Irit looked around the barren lands looking for twigs. She could weave a net of some sort. That might work. Anything to make sure the girls were fed and healthy. That was what was important. Not her own weakness or hunger, but that the girls grew strong and healthy.

Ahava watched her sisters eat and she glanced down. Worry pitching a fit in her gut. She was taking food from their stomachs. Her ears drooped a little and she looked up at her mother. Without even thinking twice she sighed. "I'm not hungry." She suggested and looked up at her mother just as she snapped from her Hasan-daze.

When she asked about the winged squirrels she hummed a little. "A lot. There's a good pride of them." She tried to sound smart, calling the bats a pride.

Karnia growled as she rolled her eyes to herself. Her sisters were so whiny, and sometimes it became a little annoying. Though for the most part she had grown used to their constant yammering about hunger and their fears of whatever was on their minds. Completely unaware that her Mother's intention was to catch the odd new creatures that were stowed away in their makeshift den; Karnia blurted out the first thing that came to her mind.

"They're not going to eat us Kayitz. They're just looking for a place to escape..." She paused a moment, noting her Mother's searching glance, but taking no real notice of her intentions yet again. "Just like us. She squinted her eyes to the back of the cave, and grinned at the creepy little eyes that shone back. She kinda liked living here, it was spooky, and a little edgy. She wasn't exactly sure why, but she liked it!

"Though, they are a little creepy I guess..." She shrugged in Kayitz' direction, trying to console her sister if only slightly.

xxxxxNot noticing Irit's preoccupation, Kayitz quickly became absorbed on the subject of the flying squirrels. She nodded vigorously at Ahava's comment, impressed that she knew that the winged squirrels also grouped up in prides. A pride of winged squirrels. It didn't really flow much, but she supposed it was right because Ahava said it was so. Laughter tinkled out of her maw when Karnia made her comment. "I know that! I just don't like them. They screech! And they always manage to surprise me and they're just plain scary." Kayitz widened her eyes for dramatic effect, using her paws like wings to act like she was one of the scary squirrels. She soon dissolved in laughter, enjoying her own jokes much more than anyone else ever did. It always seemed that way - a joke always sounded better and more funny to its teller than to any being entertained (or not) by it.

Soon enough Kayitz's tummy growled audibly, bringing her attention back to the small hunk of meet still lying, partially cut-up, at her paws. She licked her maw once more before lowering her head and nibbling at it. The juices flowed into her mouth, making her moan once more, enjoying the taste of the otter with everything she had. Unable to stand it any longer, she picked the chunk of meat up in her mouth and upturned her muzzle, allowing the otter to drop fully into her mouth to allow her to eat the entire thing in one bite. Not giving herself time to savor it, Kayitz quickly swallowed it, satisfying her tummy's grumble. Her mother had gotten them food just in time, it seemed.

A pride of squirrels? Screeching? What were the girls talking about? Flying squirrels were normally solo animals, maybe a few would group together like a family. Kind of like them ... Well, maybe that was it. The girls were comparing the size of the flying squirrels to their small family pride. That would make more sense than not.

"Do you girls ever see where they nest?"Irit looked toward Ahava and noticing she wasn't eating. Did they not have enough? Maybe Ahava didn't like it? Was she sick. Maybe they just needed more food. Fly squirrels. Squirrel meat wasn't bad. It was something anyway.

"Ahava, please nibble on something. I don't want you getting sick. Mommy can't deal with having to find the right herbs to help heal sickness." Irit just couldn't deal with losing any of her daughters along with Hussan.
