Sorry if there's already something for this and I just missed it, but I know of some phrases that make no sense if translated directly. For example: Principe Azul (Blue Prince) actually means Prince Charming. I was wondering if there was anything for that, and also--what is chiste verde? Green joke doesn't make much sense in English.

There isn't really a way to be able to work those out, it's just something you have to learn as you go.

Spanish has differences in culture, so that's why some things sound strange in English.

Like the saying, "In a closed mouth, flies don't enter," would make someone who speaks English think, "Wait, what?" When in Spanish you would think, "Oh, keep your mouth shut, (don't gossip or something) and there won't be problems."

Well, we have things like that in English too, right? Things that don't really make much sense unless you hear them when you are a kid and understand what they mean.

I recently discovered that we say principe azul because those who were rich used to be referred to as "blue bloods".

I suppose being a rich prince outweighs being charming, huh?
