Sometimes... fatherhood was a nightmare.
Twice now, Jowy had been caught trying to sneak out with his accomplice, Riou. The two cubs were nearly inseparable, never found without the other and always right in the middle of whatever trouble was to be had. Jowy had figured out a way to slip by Gremio one afternoon and it had sent the old veteran into one of his fits. An hour later- he found both Jowy and Riou covered in mud laughing off their victory.
It had taken hours to groom them.
That afternoon, he was resting. Gremio had been given baby sitting duty and had roped Flik into the mess as well. Two sets of eyes might not be enough, Taban mused. Along with Jowy and Riou- Huali was charging flocks of birds, Belcoot was always on the run trying to rope his siblings down, and Ailia was off with her newfound companion.
At least Leknaat, his blind daughter, was sensible enough to stay in one place. She favored sitting quietly beside Teyd, sharing the secrets of her visions with the older leopard while collecting pebbles- one for each member of the troupe. She knew them by touch, by size, by texture. It was quite fascinating.
Still... Taban wouldn't have it any other way. With the spring came not one but two litters of cubs. As if that weren't enough, there were orphans that had made the troupe their home and had entered into their training as eager as ever.
Neglecting his training for the day, the cheetah laid out on his back, his paws curled contently up against his broad breastbone as he soaked up the sunlight. Sparring against Feng had left him both sore and bruised- aches that the elder cheetah assured him would save his life one day. He didn't doubt it- but he didn't appreciate the aches none the less.
A roar broke over the silence. Quick as lightning, the cheetah rolled to his belly and stood himself up, his body ready and alert. It wasn't a warning call...thank the stars. Nyack was calling. Smiling, the cheetah broke into a brisk lope, leaping off the small hill he'd reserved for himself and over the short, dry grass.
Tancho: "Cheetahs are funny." She said in a matter-of-fact tone. Tancho was quickly becoming the mouth of the family. Always eager to gather attention, always ready with a quick comment or a tall tale to keep the eyes of her siblings on her. Today- the topic was the scrawny spotty-cats. Wind-chasers the troupe called them- and with good reason. Apparently one of them had managed to catch the wind- a lot of nonsense in her opinion but it made a good story.
"They can't roar, daddy. They sound like... like... "ARK! ARK!"."

The whole world was but a spec when it came to her children. She never thought she'd ever have, and beside a male no less. A smile creased, though she looked still roughed up it was a bit easier to handle with someone taking care of the children like Nyack did, so she could rest and gain up her strength for today. An important day for them all as the children were being presented to Taban. Finally, she accepted becoming a family with a pride and all the sudden- now bringing in new blood- HER blood. Her heart extended out as she was proud to stand beside Nyack, lifting her chin as she looked over her cubs. They all knew that mother had high standards. By the time she was already a cub- training started and they would follow in the strict training schedule that she would have them in but for now. While they were still young she taught them manners overall before the moment came. Slowly she walked with a proudness up to the lands and didn't stir not once when the roar came. The lioness was very used to it.
Nyack's roar erupted and she sucked in breath in a gasp. What would happen.. the whole pride would know what today was. Looking over the cubs to make sure they were not doing anything foolish, which was VERY hard- especially for the twins.
Kohaku was the tender older brother that every cub wanted. He was kind, gentle and never left you behind but would knock some sense in to you if you were doing something wrong and that was exactly what he was up to. Knowing how important today was, ease dropping on mom and dad- it was something important and wanted to make sure everyone was their best. "Silly Tancho, that's why daddy roared to him~" He smiled gently and humble. Trotting over to his brother Kumo, licking a part that father left unattented. Making sure the fur was right before moving on to the next cub until he realized something..
"Where is Utsuki?"
He looked around quickly and realized that he was left way way behind. A smile creased over the cub's maw. He was the oldest, biggest cub of the litter. A fine Nyack built clone to say the least. Running past the others to snatch the smaller cub in his maw and bring him back to mother's side.
Far behind the rest, he wasn't built as big as mother nor father. He was scrony and a lot smaller than the rest. The youngest of the litter and by far the most quiet of the bunch. When his father roared- he nearly jumped out of his skin! The roar was so strong, they were all strong and he only hoped he could make them proud! He struggled to get in to pace and fell behind his darkest sister than way further than that. His ears pulled back as his brother hurled him in to his mouth mid step and carried all the way back to mother. He knew how important it was- and he hurried as quick as he could but that wasn't quick enough! A chirp came out of him before promptly getting put down. He looked up as his mother, with big bubbled eyes of forgiveness. She couldn't help but to look in a sigh. Was she disappointed? He lowered his head as he tucked behind her leg while Kohaku stood tall beside his father, looking and acting his best!
