Name: Karabi Raju

Nicknames: Her father calls her 'Bi Bi', but otherwise none. Her alias, however...

Age: 16

Sex: Female

August 27

Zodiac Sign: Virgo

Gemstone: Peridot

Origin: Karabi is from Mumbai, India, and is currently living in Celeste for a student exchange program... Well, that's the excuse she tells everyone...

Blood type: A+

Height: 5'6''

Body type: Karabi has a slightly athletic build from all the dancing she's done throughout her career, with curves in a few key areas. She isn't especially busty, but her hips are legendary in the industry.

Hair: Karabi has long, dark chocolate waves of curls spilling down her back. She usually wears her hair down with a few clips or barettes for decoration.

Eyes: Karabi has large, deeply expressive, hazel eyes. Her eyes are framed with long, dark lashes, and she never leaves her house without full eye makeup applied.

Fashion: Most of the time you'll find Karabi wearing casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirts, and sundresses, and often in bright, girly colours such as light pink, yellow, and baby blue. When the occasion calls for it, however, Karabi certainly knows how to make herself into the 'belle of the ball', so to speak.

Acting: Karabi lives for the stage. Ever since she was a small child, she'd been bitten by the acting bug. Nothing pleases Karabi more than delving into the psyche of each role she's playing to truly understand and represent each character properly. Some would call her a method actor, though she disagrees. She is just extremely passionate about her work.

Dancing: When Karabi isn't rehearsing for a role, you'll usually find her dancing the night away. There hasn't been a style of dance she's tried that she hasn't loved, and she's always wanting to learn more. Karabi practices dance both professionally and recreationally, and loves both equally. Her primary dance styles are Odissi, a classical dance style from India, Belly dancing, and Contemporary dance.

Reading: Back home in Mumbai, Karabi rarely would have a moment to herself. On the odd occasion she's have some free time, Karabi loved to just curl up with a good book. Always a daydreamer, Karabi enjoys invisioning herself in the fantasy worlds she reads about. In Celeste she has been finding herself with even less spare time, so she isn't reading as much as she would like to.

Family: Karabi lives with her father, Krish Raju, in an expensive three-bedroom flat. People are often surprized to learn that Karabi has never known a mother; Krish elected to become a single father and adopted Karabi when she was a baby.

School: Celeste High School

11th Grade

Favorite Subject: Drama, obviously. She also enjoys English class for the opportunity to improve her english skills.

Least Favorite Subject:
Math. Working with numbers just isn't Karabi's strong suit.

Favorite Food: Karabi's usual diet back home is loaded with fruits and vegetables, and her personal favourite foods reflect this. Malai Kofta is a dish best described as vegetarian meatballs in a thick sauce, and Karabi can't resist it served with a side of fresh naan bread. For dessert, Karabi's favourite is Shahi Tukra, a rich bread pudding flavoured with cardamon and served with dried fruit.

Least Favorite Food:
Adapting to american life has been difficult for Karabi, and she particularily has had a hard time adjusting to heavy, greasy american cuisine. She absolutely cannot stand fast food, and the thought of fried chicken makes her nauseous.

Job: Karabi doesn't have a job in Celeste, but back in Mumbai...

[+] Passionate: When Karabi discovers the love of something, whether it be acting or dancing, she really loves it. Her entire heart goes into every theatrical performance; pieces of her soul are left behind in every dance step. She leaves behind no amount of energy to pursue what she loves. Karabi's passion can be felt in her presence; strong, intense, inspiring.

[+] Kind-hearted: Karabi's smile instantly gives off the impression of a sweet and innocent girl, and this impression isn't far from the truth. Compassionate towards those around her, Karabi is always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. She recognises that not everyone is blessed with the privileged life she has led, and does her best to give back to poorer communities when able.

[+] Charming
One can't make it as a celebrity for very long if they're lacking in charm, and Karabi certainly doesn't lack in this department. With the bat of her eyelashes alone, she can melt the coldest of hearts. It's always been very, very easy for Karabi to get what she wants. Being a movie star doesn't hurt, either. Of course, one's charm won't always work in sticky situations, and in Celeste, where she can't bank on her fame, Karabi has had some trouble taking her foot out of her mouth.

[+] Determined
Once Karabi sets her mind to something, she will do it, no matter how difficult. When a director told her she'd never be able to complete the 'dive from the pirate ship into the lagoon' scene in Sailor of Love without the assistance of a stunt double? Hah! Five weeks of diving training later, Karabi blew his mind by completing the difficult stunt herself. And now she can add 'deep sea diving' to her long list of talents.

[-] Out-of-touch
Growing up in the bubble of Bollywood has had its effect on Karabi, and she finds it diffcult to relate to the 'average folks' she meets in Celeste. Because she has grown up a wealthy celebrity her whole life, Karabi will sometimes make ignorant and offensive comments to those less wealthy than herself, without intending to. To make matters worse, american culture is much different than indian culture, which Karabi is desperately trying to adapt to.

[-] Naive
Karabi is fortunate to have her father around to navigate her through the often muddy waters of stardom, for she is often too trusting of a person. She cannot comprehend the ill-intentions of those around her who would take advantage of her, and cannot fathom anyone deceiving her. The world can't always be puppies and rainbows, though, and one day Karabi is sure to pay for her naivity.

[-] Perfectionist
Passion and perfectionism can easily be confused for one-another, and Karabi often walks on the fine line between the two. She is so passionate about her work that she'll insist on refilming scene after scene after scene if she's the slightest dissatisfied with her performance. This desire for perfectionism stems to her co-stars' performances as well, and Karabi has gotten a reputation for being difficult to work with. This mentality does not solely apply to acting, either. If Karabi is to do something, no matter what it is, she is to do it right.

To most citizens of Celeste, Karabi is an average transfer student: quiet, cheerful, and studious. Only those with a deep passion and knowledge of film would ever suspect that Karabi Raju is in fact Reva Rai, Bollywood teen actress extraordinaire!

Early Life
As a small child, Karabi was introduced to acting by her father, a well-known director. She would accompany her father to all of his film shoots, and eventually this led to Karabi getting cast in small film roles and television commercials. For a short while, Karabi was also the mascot for Naanabi, a popular brand of children's clothing.

Early Career
Karabi's first 'big break' happened when she was only 9 years old. Her father decided to take a chance and cast his young daughter as Sana, the title character in a film entitled Sana's Sunshine Quest (roughly translated). Karabi played a Shirley Temple-like character in a family-friendly musical that became an instant classic. Audiences were instantly charmed by Karabi, and shortly thereafter Karabi became Bollywood's #1 go-to child star. From age 9 to age 11, Karabi appeared in over 10 feature films. At age 12, Karabi and her father decided it would be best for her to take a break from acting so she could focus on school.

Comeback and Commercial Success
It is difficult for many actors to break out of the stigma of being a 'child star', but at age 14, Karabi returned to the big screen with a vengeance. She was cast as Aashi Autumn in Sailor of Love, a film about about a girl who falls in love with a devious pirate, who must sail across the seven seas to win his love and change his pirating ways. The film was a huge commercial success, and Karabi's status as a teen idol was set. She received a Stardust Award for Best Breakthrough Female Performance of the Year, and was even nominated for a prestigous Filmfare Award, Bollywood's equivalent of the Oscars.

After receiving her Stardust Award, directors were approaching Karabi from every direction to appear in their next feature films. By the time she was 15 years old, Karabi had another three leading roles added to her resume, as well as another Stardust Award for her role in Big Beast, Big City, a modern adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Present Career
Now 16 years old, Karabi has recently finished filming Sparkle, Sparkle, My Vampire Lover, Bollywood's adaptation of Twilight. The film is set to release next year, and while it goes through post-production, Karabi and her father decided to vanish from the Bollywood scene for a while, causing confusion and conspiracies throughout the industry. The truth of the matter is that Karabi wanted the opportunity to learn about american culture to help her break-out as an international star, and her father was more than happy to accept a teaching position at the local arts college as a break from the demands of Bollywood.

Krish Raju - father - age 47

Better known as Ravi Raj, Krish Raju is a well-respected, multiple award-winning director in his native Mumbai. Those in Bollywood though he had it all; a respectable career, a considerable fortune, and a true talent for film-making. However, upon entering his thirties, suddenly having everything just wasn't enough. Krish was lonely.

He had dated many, many, women, some famous, some not, but none would ever stick around for very long. Most women only dated Krish for his money, or to be given a shot at their 15 minutes of fame. Always a romantic, Krish would try again and again to find love, no mater how many times he was burned.

At the age of 31, he made the biggest decision of his life: Krish adopted a beautiful baby girl from Bordi, a small beach village near Mumbai.

Now, 16 years later, Krish is still a single father, but no longer lonely. Karabi is the light of his life, and he would trade away all of his fortune if it would make her happy. Admittedly, Krish does spoil Karabi whenever he can, but he tries his best to give her a 'normal' upbringing. By Bollywood standards, the Raju family lives in a modest household, and does all of the cooking and cleaning themselves. Despite his daughter being famous, Krish still pushes on her the value of education, and pays careful attention to her grades in school.

Contrary to popular belief, Krish never forced acting upon his daughter. After spending countless hours and days on-set with her father as a young child, Karabi became determined to become an actress. Krish secretly hopes his daughter will one day settle down, get married, and raise a family, but he knows in his heart that will probably never happen. Like father, like daughter.

Karabi believes in reincarnation, do you?
PostPosted: Fri Dec 24, 2010 1:06 pm

What's in a name?

'Karabi' means 'flower', and as Krish would say, "Karabi is like a beautiful flower, hand-picked from the garden over all of the rest."

The family name Raju means 'king'. Krish elected to direct under the stage name of Raj, which is a derivative of Raju. Likewise, Karabi selcted the family name of Rai as her stage name, in honor of her father, which is another derivative of Raju.
