I know there's a Ask a Wiccan thread in debate and discuss already. But there is a difference between a pagan and a Wiccan. Yes all Wiccans are pagan however not all pagans are Wiccan. Wicca is a distinct religion that has it's own practices and it takes years to become of the Wicca.

Pagan is a catch all term like Christian, that describes anyone who isn't a Christian, Muslim or a Jew. Or worship the Abrahamic God.

So ask me anything about Paganism, like general questions, rituals, misconceptions, rumors, and fluffy bunnydom. :3

If this becomes a full blown debate, mods you can move this. :3

Rules: There is no rules besides the basic one, Love thy neighbor. Remember to be courteous and respectful. I don't appreciate rude people.

Purpose: The main purpose of this thread is to shine light on the truth surrounding what paganism is. This not supposed to be "Well Paganism is better than Christianity" or even a debate. I kindly ask for you to remove any and all biases that you may have concerning Christianity and leave them in a jar at the door.

Here's my questions: Do you believe in (a) god, and if so, who or what is this god that you believe in?
What do you think happens when you die (is there life after death)?
How do you determine what is "right" and what is "wrong?" (is there a "right" and a "wrong?")

Wow 3 questions...

okay..

1) Currently I'm doing research on different pantheons and the different Gods to gain understanding and knowledge on them before I do any worship so I don't upset them. (Yeah they have feelings too) or that I'm not worshipping a fluffy version of them or what is known as a thoughtform.

2). I don't know what happens after death to be exact. I believe that we do get reincarnated not neccessarily into an animal. However we do this to correct any wrongs or mistakes we made in our past lives before moving onto an actual plane of the afterlife. That and our souls are in a sense immaterial, so in a sense they seem to never die exactly. The saying: If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

3). Right and wrong are subjective terms and have always been subjective terms. They vary from person to person, culture to culture, religion to religion, etc. One person may see something like gay marriage to be wrong, however the other person may see it as right. How we determine what is right or wrong varies with the person in question. How I determine what is right is by doing research on the subject at hand.

In your second answer you stated that the point of Reincarnation was to correct "mistakes" you have made, yet in your third answer you took a very neutral stance to say there is no "right or wrong" and that it was based on personal perception and interpretation.

So do your God's view there so be set Moral guidelines of Right and wrong so that you may weigh your process along Reincarnation/admittance to the afterlife(because if there is no Right or Wrong only perception there can be no mistakes" or indeed do you still hold that there are no absolute morality's and "Do as thou wilt" is a more apt way to live your life?

I don't believe in a God per say yet. As I stated I'm still doing research. Many people think what they do in their life is wrong according to their decisions. Either they shut out many people in their life, cheated on too many people, hurt many people emotionally, physically, mentally, etc. There are pagans who believe in the Summerlands which is a place inbetween this life and the next life where you look over your life and see if you made any mistakes and if you wish to correct them. When I said it's based on perception I meant it's based on your own personal perception. If during your life you don't think what you did was wrong, that perception can change once you die and enter the Summerlands.

The only time morality is absoulute is when there are cultural universals, which is basically morals that are viewed universally by every culture. Like viewing murder is wrong for example would be a cultural universal.

Heathen actually refers to the Germanic practioners if I'm not mistaken. In other words those who are Asatrurs. And many of them are proud to call themselves Heathen.

I'm more or less an eclectic Neo-Pagan or that's the direction I want to go in. Words like Heathen and Heretic don't really affect me. -shrugs-

Are there any rituals that you follow? If so, what are they, and when and why do you follow / perform these rituals?

Currently I'm still studying and learning. I haven't done any rituals because I don't want to mess up and make a mistake. Worse comes to worse I would piss off a deity and bad things would happen. smilies/icon_sweatdrop.gif So by studying, I'm trying to eliminate any bad juju.

Are there lots of people who are pagans? What do pagans do when they get together? Do they act for a cause? Cause a ruckus? Nothing at all? Ok, you can just ignore the last three "questions," those are just bantering.

A pagan is anyone who isn't a Christian, Muslim or Jew. If you add up the adherants of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sataniam along with Neo-Paganism and the many reconstructionist religions you'll get a high number lol.

Pagans, when they get together can do rituals. Some of us would rather perfer to do rituals by ourselves, others would like to be in a group or coven.

I love these discussions... I firmly believe there will never be peace between people if we don't share ideas and faiths. But now, I have a question... And I am not some bible shoving religious Christians ethier.

Have you ever thought of appecting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? I understand you guys feel as if your pleasing some Deity... But has this "Deity" died for your sins? Toke the strikes upon his back so your body could be healed? A crown of throwns upon his head so your mind could be cleansed? Nails in his hands so whatever you may touch be made hole? Nails in his feet so where you may walk become holy?

I encourage you brother, research your Pagan Religion. But, you'll be worshipping false Gods. In the end, you'll be calling on the Devil for Magick. In the end, your false deities won't be there. There's one true God and one true way to heaven and thats Jesus Christ. Research it.

I have however he's not the person for me. I feel that he is more of a spiritual teacher along the lines of Sidharta Guatama, or Buddha or even Mathama Ghandi or the Dali Lama however he is not the Mosiach or you call a savior. The Jews understand. As do the Muslims. Also there is a such thing as a Triune Witch or a Witch who believes in the Christian Trinity. Witcraft is not a religion nor is it religious it is a craft, and it is not outlawed in Bible. (Poisoning is however you don't have to be a witch to know how to create poisons with herbs or to poison the wells ~__^)
Quote:

For some it's one deity. For others it's many.
Quote:
But has this "Deity" died for your sins?
Many pagans believe that if we have made any transgressions that we fix them ourselves and are accountable for our actions. We do not need a deity to die for us to know how we messed up.
Quote:
Toke the strikes upon his back so your body could be healed?
We heal ourselves or ask the Gods for help. But we mainly heal ourselves. Or I do.
Quote:
A crown of throwns upon his head so your mind could be cleansed?
That's what meditation is for. ~__^
Quote:
Nails in his hands so whatever you may touch be made hole?
The word you're looking for is whole. A hole is a giant circle that's a few centimeters to a huge meter that can be somewhat deep or very very deep. I don't need a deity to show me how to be whole. I do it on my own with the help of very loving friends whom are my family. I do not burden the Gods with such trifle non-sense.
Quote:
Nails in his feet so where you may walk become holy?
I like walking on the ground especially if it's dirty. It clears my mind and makes me remember where I came from and it helps me remember the past so I can fix the present and have a pleasant future.

I encourage you brother,
smilies/icon_stressed.gif Excuse me?! How dare you?! I can assure you that I am 100% female. The term Lady is used as title of respect of those in high authority, monarchy or otherwise. And it's also obvious that I'm wearing a dress and pumps. I would watch yourself if I were you. The next person you mistake for a male could very well smack you.
Quote:
research your Pagan Religion.
Common mistake. Paganism is not one religion. Like Christianity, it is an umbrella term that encompasses many different religions that have many different practices. What makes them pagan is that they are not Muslim, Jewish or Christian.
Quote:
But, you'll be worshipping false Gods.
Perception may be reality however perception varies from person to person. One person may view Jesus as a false God and declare Odhinn to be the true deity.
Quote:
In the end, you'll be calling on the Devil
Ha-Satan is apart of Christian and Jewish canon/mythos. He does not appear in any of the lores I have studied. Unless you count Pan or Cerunnos to name a few horned deities. However they are different than Ha-Satan.
Quote:
for Magick.
Another misconception. Magick is ceremonial magic that is used in Thelema. Thelema is a religion created by occultist Aleister Crowley. I am not a Thelemite therefore I do not use Magick. The term you're looking for is magic.
Quote:

Actually Jesus isn't the true God. Why is it that so many of you Christians mistake Yeshua, the creation via Mary's womb, with YHVH the Supreme One?

From what I've seen, you're not very well learned in Paganism. You've listed many misconceptions that other bible shoving religious Christians have. I'm going to assume you barely did research on the subject at hand and just listened to your pastor? All I can say is...bad move. If you want to understand your subject, it's best to do independent research. And to also leave any biases you have aside. The point of this thread was to be educational. Next time ask with an open, and clear mind, and leave all biases you have at the door. (And study the model for Gaia's avis. There is a big difference from a male avi and a female avi. I'll give you a clue, look at the hands. ~__^)

Also, stay far far far away from Silver Ravenwolf. She is what gives Pagans a bad name and a bad rep.

Take the time and do the research. Don't look at articles slanted towards your religion because it can easily pervert the research.

My job here is to teach and to educate. Not to argue.

It seems as though we are straying from the topic at hand, and are edging on turning this thread into a debate. Whether or not Jesus is the Son of God is our own decision. So is believing whether or not truth is relative. These things may be argued elsewhere in debate forums. Back to the topic!
Here's 2 questions for Lady:
How do you believe the world started? (big bang? Evolution? Creation etc)
What brings you here to Let The Fire Fall Christian Guild?

Evolution doesn't explain how the world was created but how human life came to be. I only took a few basic science classes in middle school, so the Big Bang theory does seem pausible. Then again so does one planet smacking into this one.

And there are many different creation myths that I do enjoy reading. My favorite being the story of Izanagi and Izanami, the Shinto Creator Deities.

I've been on the edge of atheism and theism before. This guild seemed like the best place to start to be honest. I only stick around because there are many intelligent people I do enjoy having conversations with like ShideKnight, divineseraph, lordstar, and you, Orizon. :3

I would also like to say that I commend you, for all your help. This is exactly how I want things to go. :3
