(2) How and why the Incubator and the Infirmary work
The Incubator thread in the Dragon’s Lair Guild was started as a means to help bring our eggs safely to adulthood when the Gaia image glitch started in April 2008. For the most part, although we lose a few eggs now and then, the thread has been successful. And, because of its continuing success and growth, the thread became The Dragons Keep guild while maintaining the operations of the original Incubator.
The intent of the guild’s Incubator is for all of us to pull together and help each other get adult dragons. The best way to do this is to visit the Incubator and click the eggs and hatchlings there. Even if you just visit the Incubator that gives views to the dragons there.
The Infirmary is used to identify and help endangered eggs and hatchlings (under 3 days and 23 hours). We encourage members to help “walk” these babies around Gaia (*see the Walking info*). Take note of the “disclaimers” which appear above and below these needy dragons. The disclaimers identify these being dragons in need of help as well as permission being granted to walk the dragons by the owners. By posting your scroll in the Incubator, you are giving your consent to the guild to raise and walk your dragons as necessary.
Dragon walkers are volunteers who are willing to help the Infirmary dragons. Walkers can copy and paste the Infirmary group (the disclaimers along with the needy dragons) and walk when available. However, it is important for ALL MEMBERS to realize that YOUR DRAGONS are ultimately YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
The Dragons Keep will do what it can to offer additional help to grow your dragons to adulthood. One of the resources used to help dragons with only 1 day and 14 hours or less left is the DragCave Guild where several of us are also members. This guild has a Sanctuary thread which is set up similar to our Incubator but has MANY more eggs and hatchlings. Also available is a clicking post and an emergency egg post. We only utilize these resources as a last resort.
According to the Aesop fable, "The gods help them who help themselves." If you're willing to go through the trouble of stealing eggs, saving abandoned ones, and breeding new ones, then you also need to post those eggs in other threads, such in the Forums, Chatterbox, other guilds, etc. This will greatly increase your chances of getting those eggs hatched. You can either post your babies in the text of the messages you write or in your signature. If you do post them in your sig, be sure to check them periodically as this can lead to soft shells or sick hatchlings. Change your eggs and hatchlings in and out of your sig to prevent these problems.
On a personal note, I don't try to get any eggs if I know of a planned vacation or event that is going to keep me away from my computer for a couple of days or longer. I judge the amount of time to get my eggs to adulthood. And I know unexpected problems also occur. If you have any problems that will take you away from minding your dragons, let us know but leaving a post in the Incubator thread. We want your dragons receive the attention they need during their absence.
If anyone else has any more ideas, please post them here in this thread. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

(3) Other helpful ideas for your dragons
a) "Walk" your dragons around Gaia. Place your dragon eggs or babies in your signature and then post around. Chatterbox has many, many bumping threads (*see the post for suggested threads*). You could also place your dragons within your post. Many folks here have very decorative message posts which include their dragons. Some simply copy them in at the end of their messages.
BENEFITS - This helps you get some clicks and views, especially those elusive "Unique Views" needed to help your dragon grow and stay well.
b. In the Infirmary post, there is now a "Dragon Walking" section. These includes all the eggs and babies which are under the 3 day and 23 hour countdown or are sick. The Infirmary is updated each day (look for the day and time at the top of the post).
There are several guild members who copy and paste the "Dragon Walking"/ Infirmary group and who travel or walk them through Chatterbox. These helpful folks in the Incubator as dragon walkers beside their scrolls. If you want to help walk the babies, please feel free to do so. And if I haven't recognized your efforts, please PM me!
BENEFITS - This helps you get some clicks, views, and unique views. This also helps other guild members. Remember, we're all in this together!
c. Using the Random Sig Generator is another way to show off your eggs and babies in your signature. Click the link and make an account. Then put in the codes for your eggs and babies (not sure if it takes both the Tiny URL or the BBC codes).
Using the Random Sig Generator, you can get all your dragons in your sig without having to worry about Gaia's URL limit. However, you do lose the "click" ability on your dragons because you have to use the second URL in the code. Also, you will not get an equal amount number of views on all your dragons, but it does work.
BENEFITS - This helps you get some views and unique views.

e. "Trading" Dragons
Eulysa Vilae so here's a rookie question: how do you "give" someone an egg? is it just breeding one and letting them know the instant you abandon it, or is there something a little more reliable?
pd2care I'm having trouble trading with my daughter since the server issues. What link do I need now, to give to her, so she can grab it as soon as I abandon it? We've lost 3 metals due to unsuccessful trades. HELP!
TaraR16 I've traded after the new server was installed and my trades went through pretty smoothly. The only code you need is: http://dragcave.net/abandoned/DRAGONCODEHERE ( the four digits/letters of the BBCode) But there are probably alot of people haunting the abandons' right now, especially since there weren't any Easters to tide them over with. Try to find a time when there aren't that many people on. Hope that helps! ~Tara xd heart
xXX_ichigo_xXx09 well its a little easier when you set up a specific time, but yes, its pretty much breeding one and letting them know when you abandon it.
Willa-Wisp A pre-determined time for the trade is highly advisable. That way the person you are "sending" the egg to is on at the time of the release. In addition that person should also have the egg's code (not tiny url code but the four-digit/letter BBCode). Then before the release occurs, that person should log onto the Cave site and frequently refresh this address listed in Tara's quote ...
It's not fail safe but it does work! Good luck! biggrin

i. Click/View Sites for Your Babies
This is another great site for clicks, views and unique views. You post in your scroll name, and your eggs & hatchlings are in rotation for 3.5 days, so make sure you re-enter your scroll name every 3 days for full effect for your eggs and hatchlings. It auto cleans, so you don't have to take your adults or dead eggs/hatchlings out of rotation. You can even get a nifty sig link to your scroll with stats on it, like mine:
JusticarsChampagne Found another cool site for getting more clicks and unique views ^^ Daily Dragon Fix - at this site, you register and log in your scroll name as well (log in name and scroll name do not have to match). After logging in, you put in your eggs'/hathclings' BBC codes (the 4 alphanumeric code at the end of the URL) - up to 9 at a time, but you have to remove your adults or dead - and click on only 20 eggs & hatchlings (make sure the right side window loads for the clicks to count!) by end of each day (3 am EST). Put in the codes daily, and click, and your dragons will grow great!!
Here are some more sites which MiniBoBini discovered ...
~Mini's Findings~
Forum for eggs and hatchlings - http://dragonparadise.ipbfree.com/
A website forum type thing for emergency eggs, but I think you have to PM the mods to get your eggs added? It doesn't look too reliable... http://egghospital.wetpaint.com/
Another forum, mostly for views I guess. http://dragonwish.conforums.com/index.cgi
If you have UniPets, there's a forum page for dragons there. ]http://unifaction.com/thread.php?id=534&page=1235#page=1235
And this comes from TaraR16 ...
Eggs Around The World (a new site that takes your scroll and gives you the codes of others' scrolls to post around, instead of just clicking/viewing their eggs)
Thanks for all the great info, Champagne, Mini, and Tara! heart biggrin
