"Hey, didja see them ZOIDs in the garage earlier?"
"Yep yep, Saw 'em all alright. Heard they were custom-made by Doc Fox."

The two Imperial militants lingering outside the base hanger gossiped to one another while eyeing the Rev Raptors stationed near the back of the large room. All built by the hands of the genius, Dr. Fox and the desired ZOID of any blooming cadet. Sadly for them, only four were built and the pilots were said to be arriving that day to meet up with one another for the first time.

The clicking of boots on the tiled floor brought the two gossipers out of their stuper and they watched as a nineteen-year-old walked past. His uniform was pressed and clean-cut, made to fit his form but not enough to hamper movement; gloved hands reached up to push wayward bangs out of calm eyes as the young man stopped and stood at attention before knocking on a door just at the end of the way.

"Who is it?!" A gruff voice, muffled by the steel door, had the tone of someone who had not slept for days and lacked a decent cup of coffee at his desk.

"Private Jacob Hydman, Sir! Reporting via request sent by messanger." A sigh was heard before the shuffling of papers gave way to the door sliding open. He stepped in as the door shut and saluted the Commander leering at him from behind the desk.

"At ease, boy." He motioned towards four chairs on the floor. "Sit. Your teammates should be arriving soon."

Zyph had gotten a message earlier and had gone through her training. She was finally moving up it seemed and she was going to take it. So she walked quietly but smoothly down the hallway while sticking to the shadows and doing it unconsciously. She saw the door there walking up and knocking quietly.

"Hey did you hear that? Someone else at the door?" He looked over to the superior officer.

"Go check it out then." He pointed as he shook his head as he couldn't believe the idiots he was working with.

The soldier looked out the door to see a very beautiful but tough looking woman. "Who are you?"

"Private Zypher Olla reporting for duty, Sir." She stood and saluted the man on the inside. The door opened quickly and he escorted her in to the other pilot already inside.

"Hello there. You know what this is about yet? I was just told to report here for my new assignment. Sounds top secret and somewhat important." She had been on a couple missions like this where they didn't know what they were doing until they were already going there.

She had a talent for stealth and they were already using her for recon missions. She stretched out a little bit as she looked around waiting to be led where ever the mission was going to be.

The buzz of the four zoids caught the ear of many. Talon Beauregard was one of them. A letter in the post caught his attention. It had been a real double take of a letter.

Him? In a custom Fox ZOID? His dream was coming true...well part of the dream. He had to deal with three other people, but that was a small price to pay for the chance to serve his Emperor proudly.

Proudly he made his way to the hanger. So Talon's uniform wasn't quite perfect. It didn't need to be perfect. It was at regulation standards and not a smudge above. That would require effort and too much time away from training. He peered up at the hanger, ignoring the folks loitering around, and inhaled, a proud smile on his face. What an honor!

He moved inside, knocking twice on the officer's door before getting a growl to enter. With an eyebrow raised, he entered promptly, closing the door behind him with a silent click. His hand was already up and down in a practiced, if not slightly lazy salute. It didn't get a bark, but he would be reprimanded for sure later on. "You asked to..." His eyes darted to the young boy in the clean uniform as to the girl. They lingered on the two for several moments, an eyebrow rising in his amusement, before he returned his gaze to the commanding officer. "Have I come at a bad time, Sir?"

" No..sit down...er and you are " the Commander growled, drumming his fingers on the hardwood desk.

"Private Talon Beauregard. You requested to..."

A grunt from the officer and he was ordered to sit down before he could finish. Talon obliged and sat down, taking the time to glance at the young kids. Hum. Young. Oh well. Talent had no age limit so he would deal with it. He rested his back against the wall and waited. Closing his eyes, he dreamed of getting into the cockpit of his new ZOID.

John Kelly, 'Kelly' or 'Irongunner' to those who knew him, flipped the letter over in one hand, checking once more against his memory that he had the correct location before stuffing the well-thumbed sheaf of papers back into his gray flight suit's pocket. He spent a moment looking over the building, then walked through the door with a cursory nod and salute to the door guard. His flight suit bore clear outlines of patches removed from the left shoulder and over the front pockets, but what had been there was anyone's guess.

He looked over the hanger with an interested eye, picking out the shapes of several easily-recognizable Zoids scattered in their bays, and a few less-common models, perhaps lance commander or experimentals. As he strolled down the walkway, he picked out the line of raptor-types lined up in adjacent bays, paying special attention to the one with the black cladding, which the letter stated was assigned to him, code named "Black Knight." Hmm, that should do with a little work, he allowed to himself, already picturing how it could be refitted with a suitable package of ordinance for his roll. Dr. Fox was reputed to be one of the best, and he had certainly lived up to expectations so far.

Time beckoned, according to his wrist chronometer, and he made his way to the door at the end of the hanger, raising his hand to deliver one strong knock to the center of the door. He waited for the spoken 'enter', and strode into the room, stopping precisely two steps in front of the commander's desk and rendering a sharp, all-angles salute. "Sir, John Kelly reporting as ordered." He held the salute for a moment longer, then snapped it back down, taking two steps backwards and assuming the position of parade rest, hands crossed behind his back, feet spread to shoulder-width.

The commander stared at the various mix-match of soldiers standing and/or sitting in his crowded office before reaching down into a drawer to pull out a thick black folder with the Imperial Symbol stamped on the front.

"I trust that you rookies have some idea as to why you are here..."

"Good! then I can get you out of here quicker." Leering at the four trainees (especially the two younger ones), he held out four different packets of equal thickness. Each of them were labeled with the soldiers' name and which ZOID they were given, as well as an full expanation of what they were doing.

"All of your orders are outlined in there, so make sure to read it over!" He rolled a pencil between his fingers. "His Majesty is taking keen interest in all four of you, so I suggest that you do nothing that displeases him. ......My assistant will lead you to your new barracks." He pointed to the uniformed cadet that had greeted Private Zypher when she had walked in before waving them away. "Dismissed!"

Jacib listened with no emotion lingering on his face, stood and saluted when ordered to leave and followed the younger cadet. Stepping out into the hallway, he thumbed through the pages of his orders...

A team of four? ....Wonderful....he had always worked best by himself. Now he had to deal with those three. Adjusting the gloves on his hands, Jacob tucked the packet under his arm to be read properly when they reached their new quarters.

Zyph read over her mission, it was sort of new to get most of the details right away. She nodded as she followed the private out. She hated being looked down on but for right now it wasn't the right time to point it out.

Zyph stood about 5'7" and weighed about 120 lbs. She actually had dark purple hair with dark red streaks through it. Her hair came down about mid shoulder blade but at the moment it was up in a pony tail to keep it out of her face. She had bright green eyes with fairly fair skin but she definitely got some sun so she wasn't pale white.

She looked at everyone else in uniform and smiled to herself. She was in black spandex going down to her feet. She had brown shorts on overtop of that with a black leather shoes on that fit almost like a glove and made almost no noise as she moved. She wore a brown tshirt with a black zip up hoodie over it unzipped. She had a belt on with her shorts which had a decently large knife on her right side and a smaller one on her left side. On her left ankle there was another smaller knife just barely visible under the shoes she was wearing.

She raised her head hearing she was on a team and she only worked alone. This was going to prove to be interesting. She then looked up to see her "Red Lazer". Not bad but sadly it didn't look like it would be really easy to camouflage. It had a nice style though and nice pattern on it. Would be interesting to finally pilot her own Zoid, she would have to look into more stealth options though. She wondered if there was optical camouflage and sound dampeners.

With a grunt he took the file held out to him. It was heavy, but that was to be expected from any newly established group handing out customized machines of destruction. Talon took a couple of moments to actually observe the late comer--and for once he was grateful for not being the most experienced. He'd be able to slack off a bit, just a bit enough to throw a few pointless task at the rookies way. Not completely, but with a code name like 'Green Tyrant' he could at least let his temper flair. Maybe. Naww, that would be making mountains out of anthills.

Green Tyrant... Well, assuming the color had something to do with it, the lovely green ZOID he had seen earlier was his. Not his favorite color, but at least it would do well in the forested regions of the world, or darker areas. Huh... Talon blinked and looked up from the file. Well, probably should get up and follow them youth folks, stake a claim on a bed and get to reading the entire thing.

He was on his feet, not soon after the young girl left. A hand moved in a lax salute his heels connected in his respect for the officer. He would have said something, but what was there to be said? They were dismissed until called upon for service to the Emperor, best see if Talon would get along with anyone. A lazy about face, and the male slipped through the door. The folder was opened again. Stats, tests, and notes from the Doctor himself, all were read in the lazy walk to the barracks.

Talon looked up from the file, eying both the young folks. He had a feeling they would cause trouble. He couldn't figure out where it was coming from, but it had to be the way they acted. The girl especially. Meh... Hormones. That had to be it. Silly hormones.

"Oy... " he called to the two in front, ignoring the cadet escorting them. "What d'ya make of this, huh? Pretty big honor if y'ask me..." He blathered on. Naw, he really wasn't the talkative type, nor did he really agree with what he was saying. Might as well break the ice and see how people reacted to such understatements. "Bettcha them fancy ZOIDs 'll do a number on them Republic scum. " He couldn't keep this stupidity up for much longer. But the reactions would be good. Hopefully. Maybe, if that girl didn't stab him with those knives on her. She didn't seem like the patient type at all--that walk of hers had a 'don't tread on me' attitude.

Kelley didn't so much as raise an eyebrow, accepting the folder with an outstretched left hand, then snapping back to the position of attention and rendering a salute. He turned smartly on his heel and took three measured strides out the door, his stiff, formal posture melting the instant his body crossed the doorframe.

He casually looked at the mismatched group of pilots around him, wondering exactly how and why such a bizzare group had been pulled together. Dice or darts, probably, his mind supplied with a sarcastic snort. The upper levels of the command chain very seldom made sense at the field-level. An eye roved over the parked Zoids again, and he absently ignored the chatter from one of the other crew beside him, moderately curious though why the older fellow would be babbling on like a fresh-minted cadet...

He shrugged, not really all that concerned at the moment, the personal quirks of the squad would probably deal with themselves given time, and that was one thing they seemed to have plenty of, given the hefty sheaf of papers in his hand, and the usual recriminations of oversight and reporting. A curious eye also went to the girl walking out front, she looked like a walking cutlery drawer. What in the world did you need all those knives for? His personal weapon, a H&K MP-7A1 hung at his side in it's oiled-leather holster as it always did, an odd combination of the cutting-edge weapon, and the ancient craft of fine leatherwork. His other weapon remained in the bag that he had sent ahead, with some luck it would even have made it to their new quarters.

As they walked along, Jacob turned his head slightly and watched the three other platoon members. One, the female, looked to be able his age and had the posture of someone who knew hand-to-hand combat well (if the knives were anything to judge by); the other two were older men trailed behind them looked to be at least five is not a decade or so above...so why were they considered "rookies"?

The nineteen year-old perked up at the blathering of questions from the guy with his packet open; an honor? Yes, it was....but how could his Majesty think they could work together? Jacob was thinking that he and the Senate had drawn lots when the shakey voice of the cadet brought the teenager back to reality.

"U-um...This is your barracks." He pointed to the door, which had the words "Special Operations Unit" printed in bold, black lettering. "The key cards that will allow you in are also with the paperwork you recieved...Um...Please excuse me!" He swallowed hard and smiled nervously at the higher-ranking group before saluting and dismissing himself to dash back down towards his former post.

"It looks like we let ourselves in then...Allow me." Pulling the card out, Jacob swiped it and after a few moments, the door opened to their chambers.

Inside, it consisted on two rooms: the first one was a room filled with a table, chairs, and a simple couch as well as kitchen appliances; a two-way video screen hung on the open wall (this is used to relay orders to the group on missions). The door to the back lead to a small "bedroom" with two sets of bunkbeds while an archway lead to a two-person bathroom. Any belongings that the squad had requested are piled up against the front entryway.

Without a word to the others, Jacob walked over and grabbed both his bag and katana before making a beeline to the bedroom; one of the top bunks was his.

Zyph walked into the barracks ignoring the one guys comments and looked around. "So I have to live with you old lecherous men, huh?" She walked up to the bunk the guy her age went to and took the lower bunk. She laid down on the bunk on her back relaxing as she flipped through the pages seeing where she was skimming the orders to get the basic gist of what their mission was.

Without looking up though she pointed right at Talon, "You, I believe your name is Talon. I suggest you keep your eyes and tongue in your own head or I will be sure you will never have that problem again." She smiled sweetly and genuinely as she continued to skim the orders.

When she was on the bed she started to take off some of the knives off. Mainly the ones on her belt as it was hard to lay there with them poking her. She also took off two guns that had silencers on them already from inside her coat. She set her weapons next to her on the bed finally feeling better and finished skimming it and started reading it over to get the fine details.

The cadet seemed a bit ill at ease around them. Pitty... Kid could use at least some better folk to hang out with than stuck up folks. An eyebrow rose but it was dropped when a comment came at him. He sighed and chuckled. 'Lecherous?' "You really have a way with words. " Talon said softly as he heaved a bag over his shoulder, and grabbed another of his own heading back to stake a claim on a bed.

The top bunks never appealed to him. Never had they ever, and he wasn't too fond of having his head too close to the ceiling. the smaller bag was flung on the unoccupied lower bunk. But he would of course give it up if someone asked. It didn't matter where he slept so long as he got some sleep. Half listening, he heard his name and smirked. "And how can I not keep my eyes in my head. They're kinda attached. 'Sides, missy, you're too young for my tastes. Maybe get a little more developed and then you'll have the honor of me hounding you. "

Well, it seemed like nothing else was left than to unpack. Reading over the missions could wait a little longer. His bags were unpacked swiftly, everything was its proper place before he settled on leaving the sleeping chamber to read in semi-comfort on the couches away from the younger kids. Tossing his folder onto the coffee table, Talon sat on the sofa and began devouring the papers, pulling them out and laying them into a sort of chaotic order before him. Info on the others was piled away for later. He'd read those when he was bored of the rest of the fun and legal junk. In a rather random thought, he was suddenly craving a cup of fine coffee to go with his paper devouring mood.

The first thing Kelly looked for in the room was his rifle case, and was pleased to see that it had arrived as planned, along with a standard olive-green duffel that contained the rest of his personal gear. He snagged the hard-side aluminum case in his left hand, slinging the duffel over his right shoulder, and walked into the bunkroom. He saw that the choice of bunk was quite well simplified for him, and without comment he slung the olive-green sack up onto the top bunk.

The rifle case he kept with him, along with the folder of information as he walked back out into the common room. The unpacking could wait, he decided, setting the case on the floor and dropping crosslegged beside it. He flipped open the latches and opened the lid, lifting his hand-built M-25 out of the soft foam that protected it in the case and pulling back the charging handle to make sure the chamber was clear. It was, but safety was always a good idea. He let the bolt drop and lowered the rifle back into the case, reassured that it had come to no harm since he packed it away for transport, and made a careful check of the rest of the equipment in the case before closing and latching it again.

He looked up from his rifle to the figure across the room. "So, what's your specialty?" He figured the other senior team member to have had some experience before as well, and decided to cut straight to the point.

Lounging on his bunk, Jacob took a quick look at all the fine details of their orders before closing the packet with a sigh. While he did not mind what the Emperor required them to do, he was still hesitant...

Stuffing the packet into his bag, the boy jumped down from the bed and grabbed the red/gold sheath leaning against the wall. With quick footsteps, he made towards the common room where the senior members of the squad were talking of weaponry and what they specialized in. Yet Jacob paided them no heed as he removed the silver blade from it's wood and leather protection. Carefully raising it to eye-level, he quickly examined it and found no faults that could have arised from transport; a few quick swings (he was careful not to hit anything or anyone from where he was standing near the entryway), the boy decided his blade was as strong as it was a couple hours before.

With a faint smile of satisfaction (which disappeared just as quickly as it had appeared), Jacob returned the weapon to it's proper place and tied it to his uniform belt before taking a glance around the room....what was he to do now? Well, in times of boredom, it was best to enjoy a cup of coffee and wait for further orders. Walking past the couches again, Jacob started up the coffee maker and grabbed himself a mug as the machine made his drink. Filling it up and taking a few sips, he eyed the others in the room while he leaned against the wall.

Zyph finished reading her packet and set it in the closest drawer to her bed. She looked around and found that her pack of stuff was next to the wall where everyone's else was. Well she was glad she didn't keep a whole lot of stuff and was ready to move. She went over there and grabbed it and started unpacking. She got her clothes all put away and then started taking out more weapons.

She first pulled out a couple more knifes and then a sharpening stone. She placed them randomly around her stuff so there was a knife everywhere and within easy reach of her if something happened. She took out a couple boxes of ammo for her pistols and cleaning gear for them. She set the ammo in another drawer and grabbed the sharpening stone and cleaning gear along with the weapons on her and headed into the common room.

She went over to the couch and set out all the cleaning gear ready to clean her guns but grabbed the sharpening stone and started sharpening her knives. She sort of watched and listened to them talk but wasn't too worried about it. This was sort of boring around them, they were all so much older than her. Only Jacob was slightly older than her.

Vague were the papers on information regarding exactly why they were brought together; save for the part of being closely watched by the Emperor. That gave him little to no comfort.

A lick of the thumb, and he was off looking through papers, reorganizing them to where he could find everything easily. It was then that he heard a question directed at him. Without so much as looking up, Talon replied, "Extreme close combat... " With everything put away, save for the profiles of the other pilots, Talon could now relax somewhat and do some leisure reading. "as well as dancing around my foes until they puke. "

It wasn't long before the scent of the fresh brewed coffee caught his nose. It smelled delicious and sounded like just what he needed to finish up a day. But it could wait. "'f course, " he continued, "adaptability is everything in a battle." The coffee was really smelling good. He couldn't wait much anymore. "Say...uhh..." Now what was the kid's name again? Sheesh, he had just seen it too. "Jacob, mind setting a cup of Java aside for me? " A smile was added at the end as a 'please'.
