Hyperion-Class Battle Carrier

Vehicle Type:
Large Sized Battle Carrier

Crew:
Operations
Ship Crew - 400

Combat/Support
Combat/Support - 1040
Officers - 68/Enlisted - 972

Gross Dimensions:
Height 504 meters
Length 1510 meters
Width 483 meters
Weight 7,770,000 metric tons Standard Operating
6,250,000 metric tons Empty
2,500,000 metric tons Gunship

Power Systems:
Main Power - OTEC/General Galaxy CA615 Reflex furnace cluster. The power plant of a New Macross class vessel can nominally deliver up to 33.82 Petawatts of power, and can operate for 75 minutes at maximum power before overheat initiates auto-shutdown.

Maneuvering Reaction Thrusters (10) - Shinnakasu Agar FPR10 Fusion-plasma reaction thrusters mounted two mounted forward and aft of each lower launch deck hull, two mounted in the rear of each side sponson, two mounted in the front of the large lower stabilization fin.

Reaction Mass Thrusters (2) - Shinnakasu Agar FPR121 fusion-plasma reaction thrusters with energizer, These engines are mounted in a single block in each leg/rear block.
There are no secondary thrusters; breaking maneuvers are made with the maneuvering thrusters using exhaust deflectors opening in the dorsal and ventral engine sections.

Anti-Gravity System - OTEC A60 Anti-Gravity System.

Space Fold - OTEC/General Galaxy/Shinnakasu CD129 Fold System.

Weapons Systems:
OTEC Model 4 Heavy Converging Beam Cannon (1); This heaviest of ship-borne weapons has an effective range of 600,000 km; at full power it has the effective yield of a 130 MT fusion weapon. Unlike the Zentraedi Monitor and Flagship, or the battle fortresses and their derivatives, this weapon, based upon the most up-to-date technologies, does not require a split-boom. The weapon is located in a detachable gunship style vessel that mounts between the two catamaran style hulls.

Mk. 8 Medium Converging Beam Cannon (30); Turrets with effectively two Zentraedi standard particle beam cannons each. There is fifteen turrets mounted in the sides of each hull just below the lower lip of the flight deck, they are mounted in a recessed well protecting them when not in use. Each barrel can fire 4,000 MJ of particle energy every 5 seconds, or less powerful discharges at a higher rate of fire.
The effective range is 300,000 km.
This was an improvement on the standard Zentraedi particle turret system, which suffered from no armor protection, as well as from unwanted hit dispersal on a target. The new design featured essentially three of the older cannons into one, heavily armored turret. This increased resilience and decreased hit dispersal greatly.

Oerlikon Model 486 Paladin Anti-Air/Mecha Defensive single-barrel light converging beam turrets (134); These weapons fire a 500 mJ burst every three seconds. These turrets are scattered over the hull of the vessel behind recessed panels.

Bofors Mk.8 Ballistic missile launcher box (4); there is the Mk.8 missile launcher is a huge dual-quintuple shot box missile launcher for the large obelisk missiles that has an on mount radar system, after firing all it's missiles it is retracted into the hull and manipulator arms reload the launchers, this takes approximately five minutes. One is mounted on either side of the bridge tower, and one is mounted on either side of the main flight deck. The ready magazine holds 100 reload missiles. These fire the large Obelisk missiles.

Bofors Mk.9 Ballistic missile launch tubes (40); recessed in the hulls of the vessel are forty single shot missile tubes that are reloaded by a large conveyor system and can be reloading in twenty seconds. The tubes are arranged in four dual rows of five, two deca's are mounted behind the bridge and there is a single deca mounted in each side of the main hull. Since this launch system uses a conveyor instead of manipulators to reload the system the ready magazines for each deca have 250 missiles stored. These fire the large Obelisk missiles.

PINPOINT BARRIER DEFENSE SYSTEM- Originally developed by researchers onboard the SDF-01 Macross during Space War One, the Pinpoint Barrier System is a standard defense system on board all UN Spacy starships, including the Algenicus Class Cruisers. The system generates four small disc-shaped force fields that can be positioned anywhere along the ship to deflect missiles, energy beams or projectiles. Each pinpoint barrier is about 200 ft (61 m) in length and can absorb up to 5,000 mJ in damage, which then regenerates within four seconds. The barriers can also be layered on top of each other to generate a field which provides 20,000 mJ and can even deflect heavy particle beams (usually).
The four barriers are controlled by operators in the command tower of the carrier. These operators are instructed to defend (1) the command tower, bridge, and sensor array, (2) main engines, (3) hangar bay, and (4) weapon systems, in that order. The operators primarily concentrate on defending the ship against larger spacecraft and leave defense against mecha attacking the carrier to the VF pilots.

Electronic/Sensor Systems:
ANTIGRAVITY PROPULSION SYSTEM- The ship is equipped with an anti-gravity propulsion system used for planetary landings and liftoffs. The system is good for vertical ascent/descent only and can lift the ship at speeds of up to 1,320 feet (400 m) per minute. The system will function so long as the main energy system (in the rear 1/3 of the ship) can supply energy to it.

HYPERSPACE COMMUNICATIONS- The ship is equipped with a hyperspace communications relay allowing faster-than-light communication between the ships.

LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS- The ship has sufficient life support to provide breathable air and comfortable temperatures for people for up to 20 years (air was recycled). In an emergency the life support system could support up to several times the normal amount of people at one time. The ship contained enough food and water onboard to support the crew for up to 5 years (with recycling).

LONG-RANGE TRACKING SENSORS- The ships command tower was equipped with a complex sensor system that could track and identify up to 1,500 craft simultaneously. The system had a 2,000 mile/3,200 km range.
SPACE FOLD SYSTEM- For FTL propulsion, the Algenicus was equipped with an fold system capable of propelling the ship through hyperspace at speeds up to 3.28x10^10 mps (5.25x10^10 kmps), or 1 light year per 6 minutes. The range of the fold drive is theoretically unlimited except by the life expectancy of the spacecraft (which is unknown).
SUBLIGHT ENGINES- As a backup to the Fold System, the ship was equipped with impulse engines that could propel the craft at speeds up to 0.24 speed of light (38,400 miles per second) in space. Note that these engines were mainly intended for rapid movement inside a planetary system and are not suited for long voyages between star systems. In a planetary atmosphere the ship is limited to speeds of Mach 2.0 maximum due to hull stress.

SUBSPACE MASS SENSORS- As part of the ship's sensor systems, the fortress was equipped with subspace sensors that could essentially instantly detect mass readings and movement of objects up to 1 AU (93 million miles) distant from the carrier. Readings taken with the subspace sensors are not very detailed (-25% penalty when trying to identify a detected object) and cannot detect objects of less than 60,000 kg.

Operations
Ship Crew - 2800
Officers - 182/Enlisted - 2618
Combat/Support
Combat/Support - 2200
Officers - 143/Enlisted - 1057

Gross Dimensions:
Height 34.0 meters
Length 250 meters
Width 44.0 meters
Weight 128,000 metric tons empty
184,000+ metric tons fully loaded

Power Systems:
Main Power - Rolls-Royce PWR-8 or General Electric D19W nuclear fission reactors (1); with a rated power of 184 MW.
Main Engines - Westinghouse CE-1 MHD engines (2); mounted in pair at the lower stern of the ship, with the exhausts surrounded by a heavy shroud for impact protection and infra-red signature reduction.
The total effective propulsive power is 185 MW (250,000 SHP).

Weapons Systems:
Bofors RLT1 single barreled laser turret (1); A fast-firing close-in weapon system. The turret can fire a 15 MJ pulse of laser energy every 3.75 seconds (in anti-ship mode), or 300 kJ pulses at 800 rounds/minute (anti- missile defense mode). There is no on-mount crew. And it is mounted on the starboard side of the hull.

Mk15 Phalanx Close In Weapons Systems (CIWS) Six Barrel Rapid Fire 20mm Gatling Cannon (5); Phalanx is a point-defense, total-weapon system consisting of five 20mm gun mounts that provide a terminal defense against incoming air targets. CIWS, without assistance from other shipboard systems, will automatically engage incoming anti-ship missiles and high-speed, low-level aircraft that have penetrated the ship primary defense envelope. As a unitized system, CIWS automatically performs search, detecting, tracking, threat evaluation, firing, and kill assessments of targets while providing for manual override. Each gun mount houses a fire control assembly and a gun subsystem. The fire control assembly is composed of a search radar for surveillance and detection of hostile targets and a track radar for aiming the gun while tracking a target. The unique closed-loop fire control system that tracks both the incoming target and the stream of outgoing projectiles gives CIWS the capability to correct its aim to hit fast-moving targets, including ASMs.

The gun subsystem employs a Gatling gun consisting of a rotating cluster of six barrels. The Gatling gun fires a 20mm sub caliber sabot projectile using a heavy-metal (either tungsten or depleted uranium) 15mm penetrator surrounded by a plastic sabot and a light-weight metal pusher. The Gatling gun fires 20mm ammunition at either 3,000 or 4,500 rounds-per-minute with a burst length of continuous, 60, or 100 rounds. On mount magazine holds 1550 rounds. There is one mounted forward port, starboard, aft port, starboard and amidships starboard.

Mk41 Vertical Launch System (1); The Vertical Launching System (VLS) Mk 41 is a canister launching system which provides a rapid-fire launch capability against hostile threats. The missile launcher consists of a single eight-cell missile module, capable of launching SEA SPARROW missiles used against hostile aircraft, missiles and surface units. Primary units of the VLS are two Launch Control Units, one 8-Cell Module, one 8-Cell System Module, a Remote Launch Enable Panel and a Status Panel. It is also armed with the standard and Tomahawk missiles, any number of missiles can be carried in the launchers and depending on mission profile can be any number of mixes. The launcher is mounted amidships starboard.

Electronic/Sensor Systems:
MAIN BRIDGE AND FLYING BRIDGE - This is the heart of the ship. These two areas control and monitor external and internal communications, sensory data, and weapon systems. Computer generated graphics, plotting arms, and superimposed holograms, can display a complete visual image with accompanying data regarding an enemy target. Voice activated displays are tied into the command area and spring to life at the Captains behest. The Main Bridge usually controls the ship, while the Flying Bridge directs Fighter and Destroid activity (launching and flight control). Both Bridges are fully capable of directing the activities of the other in case of emergency.

RADAR/RADIO JAMMING - Coordinated through the Bridge, the ship can jam an enemy's Radar and Radio system. Range is a 5 mile area up to 1,000 miles away.

LONG-RANGE TRACKING SENSORS - The Daedalus Bridge was equipped with a complex sensor system that could track and identify up to 800 craft simultaneously. The system had a 100-mile/160 km range.

INTERNAL SENSORS - Coordinated through the Command Center, sensors monitor temperature, radiation, motion, and chemical make up of the life support systems. The system can detect Human size contacts, smaller units do not usually set off the sensors.

LONG-RANGE LASER/SATELLITE RELAY COMMUNICATIONS - The impressive communications array of the cruiser can communicate with up to 500 craft simultaneously at ranges of up to 500 miles (1,440 km). This range can be boosted indefinitely by using satellites or other spacecraft as to relay communications.

MEDICAL FACILITIES - The Medical bay is a fully manned, very advanced facility. There are always several MDs and Nurses on duty at any given time.

LABORATORY - The laboratory is able to give data on a wide variety of areas including chemical, biological, spectrographic radiation, sound analysis, and is capable of specimen storage and audio/visual data recording.

LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS - The Daedalus had sufficient life support to provide breathable air and comfortable temperatures for up to 3000 people for up to 1 year (air was recycled). In an emergency the life support system could support up to 4,000 people at one time. The ship contains enough food and water onboard to support the crew for up to 1 year (with recycling).
