Personality

Self-entitled, tough, demanding, but also intelligent, he wants what he wants, and doesn't care how he gets it. Caius is tough and cruel just like the desert he lives in and embodies. He expects his followers to be the same way, and cannot abide weakness. If you are not either tough or savvy in some way, you are asking to be taken advantage of. Others outside of his domain would likely consider him nothing more than a petty desert raider and tyrant, but he believes life should be compared to the desert -- wild and vast, and lethal if you are not prepared to traverse it.

That said, he can be very civil and polite at times unless given reason not to be. He will likely be this way with new followers, and when meeting other gods at first, willing to give them the benefit of the doubt of earning his approval (and he is of course smart enough not to want to piss off gods that have been around longer than he has, of course XD).

Ruling his domain:

While he would not want outside harm to come to his followers, and would of course protect them and his domain against major threats that may be out of their league, he expects them to be able to protect themselves against most personal threats instead of relying on him for everything. Looking to him for inspiration is great, wanting him to fix all of their petty squabbles is not. His domain might seem kind of lawless a lot of times because of this. He doesn't necessarily condone crime, but in his opinion, if a thief was smarter than the merchant who got robbed, they each got what they deserved.

But...on the flip side...if you are going to turn to a life of crime, don't get caught, or it's bad news for you. While Caius himself may not typically interfere with most minor crimes directly, his guards are allowed to be....creative in their methods of punishment, and Caius does so enjoy good entertainment. Major crimes (mostly those directly against Caius or his property) could land perpetrators in the arena as a permanent fighter, or as a palace servant or harem member whether they like it or not. XD Feel free to use these examples for more character ideas! <33

Caius' desert domain is not just one singular type of desert biome. It's southern reaches are indeed more closely related to the Arabian and Saharan deserts we are familiar with. Vast dunescapes are the norm, though a few flat and rocky areas can be found, and one should be wary of pockets of quicksand if they venture through. Sandstorms are all too common as well, which can appear out of nowhere. Oases are rare, so it is wise to travel with caravans along well-known routes, and be prepared with supplies, for not many can survive it alone.

While you might sometimes see nomads who make the southern desert their home, rather than Caius' city, it is also rumored that there are dangerous creatures here, under the God's command. Some have even mentioned seeing sharks in the dunes, though many attribute such claims as nonsense and simply the result of a heat-addled mind.

------------

The northern parts of the domain, however, are more similar to the rocky deserts of the American southwest. The terrain is mostly hilly and rocky and cacti dot much of the landscape. There are ravines and even a large canyon and while some areas do have bridges spanning them, not all are entirely safe. The wildlife is much more diverse here than in the southern desert, including a number of wild animals. While a cave may be good shelter from the sun and heat, it could also be in use by something or someone else, so being on your guard is of paramount importance.

People have also been seen living in the northern desert, outside of the city, but it's quite likely the majority of them are not the most honest... if traveling through here, one should keep a wary eye out for more than just the coyotes and rattlesnakes. It is also quite likely there are small settlements and towns out here somewhere, as well, from native tribes to ranches and 'wild west' towns, but of course Caius will still expect any such communities to be under his reign since they are in his domain...offerings and such to him might ensure that they aren't wiped off the map by a "natural disaster". XD

------------

Most importantly of the domain, separating the northern and southern deserts, is the large mountain range known simply as "The Divide" to most inhabitants. It is home to several caves, passes and creatures of its own, and rumors are that an underwater river and lake system that passes underneath it (although few have ever seen it) is the source of the well water available around Caius' city, which is nestled in middle of the range, also marking the center of his desert domain. No matter how you approach his city, you will need to traverse one of these deserts, and you will need to be tough enough to survive it. Sure, you could possibly acquire a guide or join a caravan, but it will probably cost you, unless you are smarter than the desert's own denizens...

(maps coming soon)

Nestled in the mountains is the center of Caius' domain, a large, walled city, the crossroads of the desert. Two main gates lead to the northern and southern deserts and beyond. The city is mostly circular, and its layout is simple - three districts circling the centerpiece -- The Arena.

His city is open to any visitors, whether they are followers of him or not -- if you can survive the trek there, the market goods and entertainment can be highly worth it. Just keep on your guard, or you may get pickpocketed at the very least. The exception of course being Cursed. Any cursed caught near his city will be attacked on site, no questions asked.

Points of interest

The Bazaar/Marketplace District (South - Southwest) -- One of the livelier places of the city, this is where pretty much all business happens, legal or otherwise. If you need to procure something, this is where you do it. Some owners have their shops inside buildings, but most are simply cloth-covered stalls and even moving carts, for merchants on the go. Taverns, and other establishments for entertainment outside of the arena can be found here as well.

The Residential District (West - Northwest)-- As its name implies, this is where most of the city's inhabitants reside - as well as several inns for travelers or whoever may need them. Not everyone lives here; some merchants who have buildings may live above their shops, and most guards reside in barracks near the palace and gates.

The Palatial District (Northeast - East - Southeast)-- Caius' palace and main shrine (smaller ones may be found around the city for convenience) take up most of this district. Bordering it on either side, near each gate, are barracks for guards. His harem also resides in his palace, as well as those who work there, of course.

The Arena The centerpiece of the city, and source of most entertainment for Caius and his people. From races to battles (and the occasional punishment), rarely does a day go by where something isn't scheduled. While many events happen towards the end of the day when the sun is going down, he is not averse to planning battles in the heat of the day, especially if it's a test for guards attempting to rise in the ranks, or punishment for some criminal unfortunate to have been caught.

Set in the heart of Caius' palace, is the Oasis Shrine. As you enter, the stone path leads you straight ahead to the altar at the head of the room. There is enough space for plenty of worshipers at any time, and for any offerings that may be left for the Desert god. Along the sides of the altar and prayer space are rectangular pools of water, surrounded by decorative tiles of gold and turquoise. The water itself is pure, and those visiting are allowed a drink to quench their thirst upon their arrival. The rest of the room is surrounded in sand, and in the corners of the room, in a more natural scene of decoration, are sweeping palm trees, towering into the tall-ceiling room. There is an opening in the ceiling, allowing the sun to shine in during the day, and the moon and stars to shine in at night.

Following Caius

So, have you had a good look around? Do you have what it takes to follow Caius and survive the desert? There are some things to consider before saying yes...

* Caius is an evil god. Anyone who is inherently good shouldn't be joining his realm -- they likely won't last very long! There's no telling what he might do if someone changes their mind and forsakes him later...
* He respects strength and intelligence, and survival skills in general above all else. If you can't stand the heat....well, you know the rest.
* Pockettu joining don't have to be desert themed, as long as they feel they fit somewhere in Caius' domain. But if so, remember that his realm is meant to be a mix of desert locales and cultures of a sort; not everyone needs to be the next Aladdin. XD
* If you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask me smile

Once your Pockettu has been accepted as a follower, they may apply to join either the city guard or his harem, if they wish. Make sure to read the next two posts for more information before applying -- so they know what will be expected of them!

The Harem
Because evil gods need to unwind sometimes...

Interested in joining Caius' harem? Do you adore your god and want to hang out in the palace all the time, ready to help him relax and unwind whenever he needs? Well then, read on...

Things to know:
(Please don't be discouraged by my wordiness, most of these notes are mostly for those who want more information for RP purposes! <33)

Important stuff:

* Caius prefers females. However, pretty or feminine males have been known to catch his eye at times too, so feel free to have either apply. He may not accept everyone, but to be honest it will probably be rare for him to turn anyone down, unless they just really don't match what he likes. So don't be hesitant to try!

* Those that join his harem will get to have kids with him later, though he will fluctuate between favorites and may express an certain order to who gets to be 'blessed' with children from him first. He enjoys attentions from anyone, but is also interested in creating a strong family line, too.

* Caius may allow dalliances on the side, more likely if it's another harem member or maybe a guard (it wouldn't be often they'd see others outside of the harem, anyway, except maybe shopping trips to town 8D), however he comes first, when it comes to children. After all, you joined the harem for him, remember? wink Once you have kids with him at least once, he may allow you to have kids with someone else, but it's best to ask permission. If he feels especially possessive of you (it could mean he especially appreciates what traits you have) he may not want to let someone else have you.

* Pockettu may NOT join both the harem and the city guard, simply due to the conflict in job responsibilities. However, if he becomes attracted to someone (and the feeling is mutual) who isn't in his harem and they are unable to officially move in due to their job or livelihood, he may make them an honorary member instead. Honorary members may not get to spend as much time with him as the harem or live in the palace itself, but they're welcome to come by whenever they want, and of course get the honor of having kids with him if they want.

Extra RP info:

* The harem will need to be able to run itself when he's not around. Remember, he expects his followers to be tough in some way, so just because he likes pretty things in his harem, doesn't mean they need to be pushovers. They'll likely be vying for his attentions! The harem is guarded at all times, but really, the guards have no control over how the harem is run, nor can they order members around. If anything, the other way around is more true wink

*Outside of the main 'job' of attending to Caius' needs, in their downtime they will be responsible for keeping his personal quarters as well as their own clean and presentable. Also, they will be the main ones expected to keep the main shrine and altar area clear, collecting offerings left for Caius throughout the day. Once he has kids, there will probably be babysitting duties too! XD

* In some circumstances, Pockettu might find themselves as a palace servant or harem member due to having committed a crime -- While Caius might usually send criminals and thieves to the arena or dungeons, if one catches his eye, they could end up serving him instead to pay for their transgressions. Yes, this is a darker side of him, but he is evil, so no one's surprised, right? XD Feel free to use this as an character design/RP idea if you like~

(Remember, they must be accepted as followers first, before attempting to join the harem.)

The City Guard
For those who want to protect and serve....or at least get paid for being a badass.

"So, want to join my city guard, do you?" Caius looks down at you with what could be described as amusement and perhaps a slight dangerous glint. "Be warned, it is not for the faint of heart. While it can be rewarding in the sense of protecting my city and being able to show your prowess, you will be tested in many ways, and if you want to rise through the ranks, you will need to prove yourself to me..."

----------

While the deserts and the walls and mountains around his city are a great front line to help protect his city and its occupants from dangers, no self-respecting city would go without some sort of mobile forces, in Caius' opinion. Those who join his city guard will have their work cut out for them, but proving themselves to him and the citizens might earn themselves plenty of rewards.

The guard is responsible for several things around the city. Those who sign up will at first find themselves doing everything from simple guard duty at the gates and walls, patrolling the city and helping citizens with their every-day troubles, but with some hard work, and some (usually difficult) tests, Caius may bestow promotions, and more important tasks for them in the future. More obviously, if the city comes under attack, or Caius decides to join a future war effort, they will be the ones most expected (IC'ly, anyway, you aren't expected to join wars if you don't want XD) to fight and protect.

---------

How can you rise in the ranks? Simple. Caius' favorite spot in the city (aside from where the harem resides, anyway...) is the arena. He loves to hold battles, races, and all sorts of things there to excite and amuse he and his citizens, and it's the perfect venue to test his guards and their abilities on occasion. Most commonly, if more than one guard is interested in proving themselves, he will have one on one battles (these will need to be done in the Battle Royale forum, of course) between them, or, if he's feeling particularly mischievous that day, Caius may have them battle something else....

He may also choose to send them out on quests in the desert, whether to deal with problems or maybe even to spend the night on their own. Lastly, if war comes to the desert or its people, those wins will count as well! With enough victories/successful quests (to be determined), your Pockettu may be promoted. That means they get a nice bonus to their paycheck AND the opportunity to boss others around! ;D

The Ranks:
(subject to change - under construction)

Recruit - Freshly signed up, you basically get assigned wherever Caius or your superiors tell you to go. You can only go up from here~
Corporal - Once you've passed your first promotion test, you can reach this rank. You get to tell the recruits what to do, but still have to report to those above you.
Lieutenant - Doing well at your job and passing the second test gets you here. Caius will expect you to be able to organize and work well with the newbies and others below you, while reporting to and working with those above you.
Captain - Well, you've certainly impressed Caius to get this far. As Captain of the guard you've proved yourself to handle yourself in many situations. He trusts you to run the rest of the guard like a well-oiled machine, and the only ones above you are Generals and Demi-gods!

(if necessary, either a commander or major rank may be added later)

**Dervishes - Dervishes don't really hold a rank, and truly they're more under Caius' command than anyone else's, but they will work with the guard to protect the city when necessary.

General - Reserved for those on the blessed general lines. They are technically ranked above most others, but some may choose to give moral support rather than military. Whatever they choose, Caius knows they will help protect his city and followers if the need arises.
Demi-Gods - Self explanatory~ while not all Demi-gods may choose paths or domains pertaining to the city guard, those that do will automatically be the highest rank, so long as they prove themselves to be good leaders.

(promotion tests coming soon)

--------

Ready to join the ranks? Don't worry, even if you don't join the guard, your Pockettu is still welcome to help out in future wars or aid sent to other gods, should the need arise, if they wish. smile

The form (keep in mind, they must be accepted as a follower before applying to be in the guard!):

Lord Caius, I wish to prove myself to you!
Name of pockettu:
Preferred post: (While technically Caius would be the one assigning posts, this is a good opportunity to have you guys choose OOC'ly what they do for some diversity, e.g. Wall/Gate guard, city patrol, palace guard. If you have some interesting ideas, I'd like to hear them! If you have no preference, or just want them to be able to do it all, so to speak, that's fine too, it's mostly for fun and to encourage RP :))
