User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Survey Mission 4A
Location: Prypiat
Images:: x, x, x.
General debriefing: Commonly known amongst most Hunters as one of the largest Halloween-Human portal hotspots, a strange influx of Fear and Insanity has grabbed a hold of the location, especially underground. The area is now covered in a thick fog, and what few tourists make it through are rarely seen back. The entire area has been covered off by local authorities, though the fog radius and Insanity seems to be spreading...
* B class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be a Full Hunter. This is considered a DANGEROUS mission. )

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission AA. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll an INSANITY ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.
1- 20: You can't see through the thick layer of fog. At some points you hear someone call you, whether or teammate or another voice entirely. At other points you see a shadow of someone, as you reach towards them they disappear entirely. You trip over something - a body rotting, thick dark blood still blossoming on the ground in crystal-like fragments. They are smiling with eyes wide open at you.
21 - 40: As you walk deeper, you hit an old, rusted ferris wheel. There are people hanging inside each pod, some half-draped out, others nestled in. Their bodies seem to be showing light signs of decay, unmoving. All of them are smiling, widely, perfect teeth showing.
41 - 60: You manage to navigate through the fog into a segment of thick concrete. The area is extremely dangerous and radiates high levels of Fear and Insanity. You hear a voice mocking you, and laughing at the same time, words nonsensical. For a second you feel as if someone is watching you from behind you, tugging at you. As you walk past the pavement you realize all the cracks on the sidewalk are shaped in a large, wrinkled grin.
61 - 80: You see something from the corner of your eyes, a greyed out version of yourself. They wave at you and smile, grin splitting their face....
81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Today, it seemed, he was intended to be the momma duck: there early, looking put together with a pack slung over one shoulder just in case they got stuck there overnight. Today he was prepared, with the case file in hand and something maybe a touch nervous about his demeanor.

The last time he'd gone on a mission it had been for the better part of six months, and he'd ended up with a broken wrist to thank for it. The cast was gone, now, but still Ever moved his thumb carefully, thoughtlessly, like he was searching for the ache that wouldn't be there.

He looked up as the first of his two baby ducks, relatively fresh-faced newbies, approached the portal, and pointedly straightened where he stood, a hand raised in greeting. Ever might not have looked like much, but the fade on his coat, a muted green down toward the hem, would at least mark him as a full hunter, ready to support them on a difficult mission.

He was suppose to be going on a mission, some place in Russia or something he wasn’t entirely sure and Sid was pretty sure it was probably something along the lines of busy work for the newbies. Still he put a few things he thought he would need in a small bag, a few smokes, some candy from Tweet, and a change of clothes to get by for a night. Anything else he was pretty confident he could get by in handling on his own, he usually did when things got a little tough.

Slinging the bag over his shoulder he made his way over to the portal where he was suppose to meet the full hunter, guide, babysitter, whatever it was they considered themselves. It wasn’t someone Sid recognized but considering he didn’t know a whole lot on the island it wasn’t really a surprised.

“Bon jour… so you are our fearless leader I take it? I’m Sid.” He held out his hand not entirely sure he was suppose to really shake it or just stand there wordless.

Each of his steps was lazy, a yawn rolling off his tongue as he forced himself forward to head towards the designated meeting spot. The idea of a mission wasn't exactly appealing but it wasn't like he could say no, that was the whole point of him becoming a hunter.

He arrived just moments after Sid, green eyes taking a moment to skim over Ever and his fancy coat. Full hunter. Neat.

Two fingers raised to his forehead and he offered both men a salute. "Zane, reporting for duty." A lazy grin stretched across his face and his arm fell back to his side. Rolling both shoulders back he tried to mentally prepare himself for whatever the place was gonna throw at them.

"Ouais! Sid, ça va?" Ever eased into French as if it was completely natural, with a sudden smile flashing across his face -- but his accent was, in fact, atrocious. It wasn't the atrocious of an American who couldn't quite go native, it wasn't the diphthongs and open vowels that were so common in the states and Canada. Instead it was a bit spitting, a bit downturned. Marseilles through and through. Joyfully so.

He shook Sid's hand, still grinning as he looked up to the other one, all good natured and friendly, even if Zane's attitude was so so. "I'm Ever, I'll try to make sure no one gets killed. Shall we?"

The french earned a cracked smile on Sid’s lips as he gave him a quick enthusiastic shake before letting his hand drop to his side. “En espérant ne pas être tué, c'est le but que je vis.” The full hunter’s accent may have been atrocious but just finding a few people who can speak french or somewhat french was far better than being entirely alone on the island.

Turning to the other hunter Sid waved and offered a friendly enough grin to welcome him to the party. “Bon jour Zane, we are ready whenever you are fearless leader.”

Outside of the Bon jour Zane understood nothing that the two men were saying. Being bilingual was not on his resume and he pressed his tongue against his cheek when he slid his hands into his pockets and just sorta...stood there.

"Yeah, yeah. Ready as ever." Out slipped a hand to wave about.

If either of them were expecting him to start skipping about joyfully they would be disappointed. But once adrenaline kicked in as they got into the thick of things, he'd seem more lively certainly.

Right now he was sort of wishing he could go take a nap.

"You say that now, but once you step through the portal..." Even hesitated a little, holding out a hand to Zane to shake, first, and offered a slightly crooked smile. Better not to freak them out, probably. "Just stick close."

Then he turned to slide through the portal and to face what was on the other side.

You can't see through the thick layer of fog.

Of course, one foot hit the ground in Pripyat, and Ever already lost track of his two trainees. A thick fog swirled around him, and by the second step he'd taken he was lost -- couldn't even see the portal anymore. Blinking a bit, he searched the fog for a hint, caught a glimpse of a shadow and the echo of a voice.

But when he took one step in that direction, he stumbled, didn't quite lose his balance, and found himself staring down at a rotting corpse.

He grimaced a bit, shaking his head.

"Trainees? If you're nearby --"

Sid shook Zane’s hand after Ever, it was with a little more gusto than necessary as if he was use to greeting particular people that way or maybe just nerves for the upcoming mission. Giving a nod to Ever he watched the older hunter slip through the portal disappearing from their sight completely.

“Well… here goes nothing.” Following after, Sid held his breath as if expecting something in particular to happen when the crossed over. Nothing. No zaps, no weird tingling sensations, not even a little bit of a funny taste in his mouth. Sort of impressive he thought as he took a few steps forward.

Where the hell was ********, Sid cursed under his breath it had barely even been a minute and already he had lost their leader in the fog not that anything in particular looked dangerous. Just creepy.

“Hey où êtes-vous? Ever?” Waiting a moment Sid caught something in the corner of his eye for a split second he thought it was Ever. Except it wasn’t. Instead it was a reflection of himself, or so Sid thought before it began to wave and grin slowly until it split his face face entirely in half with teeth showing wildly. “Putain de merde!”

He lost the others almost immediately.

Faintly he thought he could hear the muttering of french somewhere in the distance and he did his best to follow the sound of what he thought was a companion's voice. It did him no good, ultimately and he found himself walking deeper and deeper until something large and metallic crawled out of the fog and up into the sky before him.

A rusted ferris wheel, okay, he could handle that--

Wait. What the hell was in the ride?

Green eyes squinted as peered at the unmoving bodies and the smiles that sent a chill down his spine.

Yeah no, he was backing the hell up.

"Sid? Ever?" He called.

A sound off to the east drew Ever's attention -- what sounded like a voice. With his weapon still drawn, he headed off in search of it, expression serious and determined. Around him, the fog loosened some, letting him get a good look at the concrete and his surroundings. His Spectre watch whirred madly, warned him of the danger of this place -- which, really, was useless, wasn't it? He could see it was dangerous.

He could hear voices. Someone a couple steps behind him. A hand on his coat. And as he passed over a particularly long crack on the sidewalk he grimaced down at its gaping, grinning mouth.
