Scorpa had a plan. She'd been toying with it for weeks and now it was finally time for it to come to fruition.

The sirens were all incredible, independent, powerful trolls. The yellowblood felt confident in the way they could all take care of themselves. And yet something was missing. Something was bugging her. In their rainbow of blood, they were missing a blueblood! Sure she would love to have a lowblood lower than her to kick around but Scorpa reminded herself that she was technically an exception. It would take another even bigger exception to bring along someone of orange or red status. In a way this was just Scorpa's way of trying to justify her presence and feel special.

So it was back to finding a blueblood. Good thing she knew of three who might fit the bill! So she'd sent them all letters to meet her out in the desert at a specific location if they wanted a chance to find some treasure, along with Flydra. It was guaranteed that someone would end up needing medical assistance by the end of the night. Standing outside a strange triangular rock, the yellowblood awaited her guests with an excitement in the air.

"Now that everyone's here, let's get started! This hive contains a secret treasure and I've brought you all here to help me find it!" Opening a hidden door in the side of the triangular rock, she revealed a passageway of stairs that led down into a dark entrance way. Lighting a torch, the teen passed a few out to those who accepted them and walked further inside while explaining their mission. Little did they know, her true mission was to evaluate which blueblood was kicking a** at the challenges and then introduce that one to Lorata to see what she thought!

"Only problem is, whoever the previous owner was- they were hella paranoid and booby trapped their home like crazy! So watch out!" As if on cue, Scorpa's foot clicked down on a tile and two wall panels opened to shoot arrows out where she'd been standing. Running forward to dodge, a few more panels opened until she reached the door at the end of the hall.

"Try to find a way around those tiles or- like- leap over them I guess!" The yellowblood laughed awkwardly. She'd brought along some pretty brave trolls so she figured a little danger wouldn't deter them. She hoped.

TEMPLE OF DOOM MECHANICS

Each obstacle/trap the group encounters will be handled by rolling a d10. Whoever rolls the highest number for that round gets to decide what the next obstacle we all roll on will be. It can be as safe or crazy as you like! If you roll a low number, your troll will still get through the obstacle and be with the group, you can decide if you want the lower number to reflect on your troll's performance or not if you have an interesting idea! I encourage you all to be creative and don't worry if the characters run into some serious trouble, Scorpa and Flydra will be there to help bandage you up or take a rock to the face if need be! There will be five rounds of obstacles before we reach a final boss portion that I will post at the end. Unless people want to add more rounds later, but for now I think that's a good amount to start with!

In the event of a tie for highest roll, we'll work it out in discord who will do the next obstacle description! And seriously, feel free to have fun with it!

Also Yama will post next to start the first round (out of the five).

Flydra was pleased with the crop Scorpa had found. The bluebloods all looked healthy and strong. Malice looked like she could kill with her stare while Static had a rugged toughness to him. Garand was a little weaker looking but had dressed the most sensibly for the task. She still wasn't sure why Scorpa was calling him Buffel, though. Maybe it was an inside joke.

"Don't worry if you get hurt. I'll patch you up, I'm a doctor." Flydra smiled at the crowd before following after Scorpa into the ruins. It was dusty and dirty inside from sweeps of neglect but on the plus side, there weren't any footprints indicating recent activity. So whatever treasures had been left behind were likely still inside.

The tiles were a challenge to cross but not so difficult that Flydra would give up and go home. She took a running leap over them and stumbled her landing and rolled a few feet. Not perfect but she was across.

"Oof. Watch out, the floor feels unstable."

The letter in his pocket didn't have his name on it, but Garand had been expecting it for what felt like ages now. Any chance to explore the mysteries hidden away in the desert was a good one, after all, even if those chances came attached to an odd yellowblood who didn't really seem to know who he was. Scorpa was taller than he remembered, but at least she hadn't made a grab for Pan yet, and her friend seemed nice enough offering to patch them up, although he noticed she hadn't actually given her name.

"Nice to meet you, Doctor." He settled on, nodding a polite greeting. His attention was torn then, between the secret door Scorpa had opened to usher them through and the other trolls who had arrived. "Static?" He smiled at the other blueblood, then paused at the realization that he knew the other one too. Did they both know Scorpa? Did she know they knew each other? "And Malice, right? It's good to see you both."

And then he couldn't spare anymore time for pleasantries because they were going in and he couldn't wait to see what was in there. Would there be parts he could use? Pan was decidedly not enthused about the traps, which he let everyone know with a long series of squeaks, but Garand just glanced from the tiles below to the panels that had opened to launch the arrows, hard to see when they were closed. He could make it.

He backed up a few steps with an apologetic glance back at whoever had come in behind him, let out a breath, drew in the next, and charged. Even over Pan's loud protest, he could hear the clattering of arrows hitting the wall as he passed just ahead of them, and of course that only spurred him on faster. He'd reached the other side before he knew it, but although he tried to skid to a stop, he went careening past the two teens and right into the door beyond them.

When he landed flat on his back after bouncing off of it, Pan skittered around to stand on his chest and look down at his face, to see if he was alright. Garand simply looked up past his lusus to Scorpa looming above. "My name," he said, a little dazed, "is Garand."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The letter made Static feel apprehensive, but at the same time it had fired up Raijin. Static's lusus was burning with competitiveness, and Static had kinda hunkered down away from the electric weasel while they walked, so as to not get shocked. Raijin was chattering in the what weasels do about how Static was going to take down all the other competition, how his son Static was going to challenge each and every troll they met at the gathering to a fight to prove his dominance. Static frowned, not exactly looking forward to finding out who he was probably going to get pushed into a fight with.

Static perked up as he saw Garand, but his smile turned apprehensive as he saw Malice. She was, well, quite a force to be reckoned with. The blueblood crossed his fingers, hoping his lusus would chill out. "Hey Garand. Hey Malice." Static said with forced ease. When Garand's lusus squeaked, it set Raijin on edge, and the lusus made a terrifying sound. Static managed to grab his lusus and pulled the animal away from Garand's while they all pilled in through the door. Static chuckled nervously, but tried to pay attention to whatever scorpa was talking about. Static crossed his arms. This yellowblood was erratic, thoughtless and dangerous, not to mention way too pretentious. He smiled, maybe he could find a way to take her down a peg or two through this whole thing. Assuming he could keep Raijin from breaking the group into chaos.

The blueblood frowned, impressed with Garand's work, there was no way he could show that up. The blueblood made to step carefully onto the tiles, but luck was not on his side. Tripping on something microscopic, the boy fell flat onto his face, triggering many traps all at the same time. Just barely managing to get up and scramble to the other side, the blueblood made it with several arrows sticking in his hair and through his braid.

Malice didn't really say much to the other bluebloods who greeted her. The girl merely crossed her arms and remained straightfaced with the occasional grimace. Scorpa and her medical pal must have had something strange up their sleeve. The letter was informative enough, but she wasn't convinced they were being wholly honest. As the others began to run across the tiles, Malice tried to analyze the area for the best course of action. She jumped on the tiles, but found them to be a lot more unstable than she thought.

"Sh-s**t!" As she teetered on the titles, Malice tried to regain her balance, but had somewhat of a fright as she almost fell over. Face growing blue from frustration and embarrassment, Malice finally landed on the other side, but definitely not without trouble. "This is stupid." She said defiantly.

      △ Kerras Farron

The desert was a strange place, cold, hostile, and enchanting. Kerras pulled their cloak tighter around their small frame even as the wind threatened to tear it from their shoulders. Out here it offered protection from little more than the wind and sand. Without the appropriate camouflage trolls and beasts alike could spot them from afar if they only looked. For now though, Kerras had avoided detection. Ducking behind the sand dunes and crouching under the desert brush, they tailed the bluebloods and the older yellow and tealblood, all but invisible to them. Their lusus was harder to hide, but played a convincing dead tree for the few times anyone glanced backwards.

Secrecy was by no means unusual for Kerras. Shy and somewhat aloof, they spent most time their time observing the world from a place of security. They were accustomed to the life of an unseen onlooker. Tonight however they moved especially with caution. They had followed Malice from her hive all the way to the desert on a whim (as they often did)... without permission. Though they had never asked, they suspected the blueblood might not appreciate the investigation into her nightly life. It could not be helped. Kerras had a curiosity that would not be sated, and the blueblood exuded a kind of confidence that they both admired and felt secure in. They wanted to be with her, even if only as a shadow.

Up ahead the travelling party had entered an ancient hive through what looked to be a secret entrance. When a few minutes passed and they did not emerge, Kerras followed. They slid down the side of the sand dune, occasionally stumbling before they reached the flats. The Grove Warden lumbered behind them, leaving deep, curious tracks in his wake.

When the pair arrived at the hive, Kerras hovered about the entrance, waiting for their eyes to adjust. Their intense gaze probed the darkness within. At the end of the corridor, torchlight flickered. Further inside they could hear the echoes of voices. Kerras took a step. A gnarled white hand extended before them and blocked their path.

Turning, Kerras saw the Grove Warden reach up with his other hand and pluck a soft-shelled nut from his bough. He offered it to his charge, who took it with both hands. The fruit weighed heavy in their palms. It was far denser than it looked. Curious, Kerras raised it to their lookstub, to examine the groove from where the stem used to be. To their surprise as they did the sides began to peel away.

A moment later, a fat podling hopped out of the shell and landed in the dirt. Kerras' face lit up with shock and delight. Dropping the remains of the waxy shell, they scooped up the podling and held it aloft. Above them, the Grove Warden's voice creaked in an ancient tongue. After taking a moment to appreciate their new friend, Kerras returned their gaze to their lusus. They gave a sharp nod, expression serious. Then without further ado they started down the corridor, into the hive...

Malice and the strangers had not gone far. It was easy to follow their voices and even easier to follow the torchlight. Careful to stay within the shadows, Kerras kept close behind. Once more they were invisible. None would have guessed that just outside the fire light a young troll and a podling hid in the darkness. Only the gleam of their eyes gave them away.

As the others tested the first obstacle, Kerras watched with interest. The loud clattering of arrows against the stone walls earned a flinch, but otherwise they did not make a sound. When two of the young bluebloods crossed the tiles after the teenages, Kerras' eyes widened. Then Malice made her move. The tealblood's pump biscuit raced in their chest. They looked on with fear and apprehension. But they need not have worried. The blueblood was unharmed. They let out a sigh of relief.

Even so, Kerras could not afford to relax. The group was moving on, going deeper into the belly of whatever death hole they had discovered. If Kerras wanted to continue to observe them, they would have to follow.

They waited until the group had gone further ahead and the torchlight began to recede. Then, hurrying, they scurried down the passageway after them. It was too dark to see the outline of the trap tiles, but the tealblood remembered roughly where they were. Hugging the podling tight to their chest they took a flying leap and landed in a roll further down the passage. Behind them arrows hissed through the air, but none found a target in anything but stone.

"Flydra, come check on Buffel. He hit his head so hard he's speaking gibberish!" Scorpa laughed nervously, unsure what the hell Garand was talking about. She waved the tealblood over while watching the rest of the bluebloods make their way through. The yellowblood winced at as arrows shot incredibly close to Static's skull, getting caught in his hair!

"Phew, we're all here! Let's keep moving-" Scorpa declared before pausing. What was that noise?

"Does anyone else hear that?" It was a faint dull grating sound. Like stone grinding against stone... looking around, she wondered if she was just imagining things. Everything looked normal to the left... and on the right side there-

-WAS A GIANT BALL ROLLING TOWARDS THEM!?

"EVERYONE BOOK IT!" Despite public speculation, yes Scorpa knew the word book as she yelled and began to dash down the left hallway. Her hair whipped around wildly, threatening to slap others in the face who trailed too close to her. She started to slip on it in her haste and scrambled to roll back onto her feet. How embarrassing, hopefully the others would think she'd been just showing off a cool move!

      △ Kerras Farron

As Kerras slunk behind the group in perfect silence, and more importantly undetected and unscathed, a warm feeling of pride rushed up through through them. The Grove Warden always worried to leave them by themself. If they were to be discovered by anything unpleasant, he feared they would not be able to hold their own. Yet just now they had proven themself to be more than a helpless victim. Without any help, they had escaped a dangerous trap. Better still, the podling had been there to witness them.

All of a sudden the group up ahead broke into a run. Somewhere off to Kerras' right, they heard a low rumble. Beneath their feet, the ground began to quake. A loose pebble rattled against the floor. Their pumpbiscuit skipped in their chest. Turning their head they saw an enormous boulder careening down the hallway towards them. Their body stiffened. Frozen at the sight, Kerras could not help but watch in terror. A second later, they felt a tug at their pantleg. The podling squeaked and gestured to the retreating backs of the others.

It was enough to snap the tealblood back to their senses. The snatched up the podling and took off running, stealth no longer a concern. They had only just broken into a sprint however, when their foot slipped through a crevice in the floor. “Ah!” They fell forwards, the podling flying out of their arms. They crashed face first into the floor.

Looking over her shoulder, Malice took in a sight to behold. The giant boulder posed as a real, actual threat. Sending Scorpa and Flydra a dirty look, Malice began following suit, spitting out the hair that ended up in her mouth and yelling a slew of profanities at the lowblood. She made another quick look to assess how fast the boulder rolled, and then did a double take. A small mass flopped on the ground in a frondy poncho stood out like a sore thumb.

Malice skid to a halt. "FARRON!" She shouted at the tealblood, and then growled when their was no response. When did they get here?! While they seemed preoccupied with eating dirt, the blueblood made a split second decision to sprint after them right in the giant boulder's path.

"Oh my gog, Farron, you ******** dimwit! Quick getting chummy with the wigglecrawlies!" Despite her condescending tone and outrage, a flicker of concern crossed her features. Finally reaching them, Malice hoisted Kerras up from the collar of their poncho, then hurriedly pulled them to their feet. After picking up the podling, Malice shoved it into Kerras' hands. "Take your little sap of a lusus and come on!" Grabbing their shoulder firmly, Malice pushed the tealblood into a steady run.
