I mean whats the point of a parlor if one doesn't use it for propositions?

She had a meeting with someone, someone who was supposed to arrive in just a few minutes or so. The blueblood pored herself a glass of something clear, and threw in a few ice cubes. She sure had been drinking a lot as of late... Eh, if she went too far, well that was what Zindel was for, right?

The blueblood flipped through the large stack of papers that were on her desk. It was full of various documents, contracts, and other important official papers. She hated it, that pile of papers. Well, she loved it, it was the papers with signatures and blood drops that gave her leverage, but they were also a pain in the a** to keep track of. Filing, sorting, not what she wanted. But some of the papers had... delicate information on them. She couldn't let just anyone deal with them. On the other side of her desk was a shorter pile of papers, one that made her happy. There all the information regarding her fortune was kept, and she liked to flip through it now and then, remind herself how wealthy she really was.

      ∞ Ephias Sagine

Standing outside the door to the hive and turning over a blue printed card in his hand, Ephias wondered just what the hell he thought he was doing. The blueblood from before—Chiara Moteku—was undoubtedly dangerous, slightly unstable, and manipulative. Then again, so was he. The only difference was that no one ever assumed anything of a sheep, but a sheep could smell a wolf from a mile away.

Ephias tore his eyes from the card and tilted his head back to regard the building. Though not especially grand, it had all the subtle signs of wealth that the upper class possessed: security, maintenance, quality. His sniffnode wrinkled. Every one of his instincts urged him to forget the whole thing and retreat back to his hive for the evening. But that would not do.

Were it a trap, he had already gone past the point of no return. They knew his face, his alias, and his hive, possibly more. He could not escape. However, if it were not a trap... well, then he had nothing to lose but a few hours of his evening. Grudgingly, Ephias folded his hand into a fist, and knocked on the door. He could only hope the wild entrepreneur had forgotten the meeting and left home for the evening.

The toy made a squeek that sounded very much like a duying animal. It made Chiara grin faintly. The blueblood generally liked something simple to do with her hands while she thought things out. There was a lot going on. The blueblood might have over extended herself some. She now had at least three preformers, with two other potentials itching to get that spotlight. Not to mention the fact that Chiara just had to go and stick her hand farther in the snake hole that was rebel/royal relations. She did not regret it at all. Her plot with Vos would be profitable, and more importantly, it would bring power. None the less, it was all a bit much for her own plate.

The blueblood threw the ball in the air again. Really, she had so much work to do, she didn't have time to play around. The girl caought the ball and looked it in it's painted on porqupine eyes, enjoying the pained squeeak it gave. The blueblood didn't break eye contact with the toy when she heard a knock on her door. A meek redblood maid walked in, informing the blueblood of a visitor. "Yeah, bring him um here Korata." The blueblood finally gave the maid a glance, scrunching her brow. "And how about we dont babble like an open clam while that happens, okay?"

Chiara threw the ball in the air one more time, her hand lunging out to grab it, her nails diffing little cuts into its soft plush material. She waited for the redblood to get back, with her other redblood guest. Only when Ephias finally made it through the door did Chiara throw the toy to the side, a better toy in her line of sight. "What a pleasure it is to see you." Chiara grinned, sitting up straight. "Glad to see your a smart troll with good decision making skills."

      ∞ Ephias Sagine

Ephias' mouth twisted when a redblood answered the door and humbly offered to show him inside. A servant. His blood boiled at such presumption but he kept his tongue in check behind clenched teeth. He did not attempt any conversation, not trusting himself to speak, but scrutinised the hive as the redblood guided him through its winding halls. His mind was busy at work forming an escape route in case he needed it.

After several minutes of silence, the servant at last guided him to a set of double doors leading to a study. She held one open and moved aside for him to pass. Ephias walked past her without a word. Inside, the blueblood waited, a predatory grin on her face. As she greeted him, Ephias seated himself in the chair in front of her desk. Behind him, he heard the door shut.

“I try not to make a habit of missing appointments,” he responded. His eyes swept the office, taking in the expensive furniture, and the various novelties decorating the shelves and walls. He returned his gaze to Chiara. He got right to the point. “You said you had a position available?”

Tho it was refreshing to get right on point now and then. The blueblood pulled out a stack of folders, placing them on the desk in front of her. "I did indeed." The blueblood replied, flipping open the first three folders. Inside were pictures of three seperate trolls, all redbloods as chance would have it. "Ive gotten myself a lot more buisness than i had antisipated going in, and i need a... manager of sorts." Chiara watched the other closly, curious if he would recognize any of them. She would start him out on the legal stuff. Best not to throw all her dirty secrets at him. He didnt strike her as a royalist, but who knew.

The blueblood continued. "These three trolls are what ide call "full time" preformers. Each one has a... guard, hired to fallow and report their movements, hence the thickness of each folder." Zindel's was especially thick, maybe due to the fact that she had been with him longest, or maybe that she trusted him diffrently. "I need someone to look through those reports for sensative information, and then report it back to me." She put a bit of emphasis on the "her" part. She did not intend to have any of that sensative information go where it did not need to go. Chiara grinned at the redblood. She was asking him to do something a goody-two-shoes might call "immoral".

      ∞ Ephias Sagine

Ephias clasped his hands across his lap, as Chiara launched into her explanation for their meeting. He eyed the folders she placed on the desk between them with his usual indifference. While his face might have read as cold however, he reeled internally. Not one, but two trolls he recognised. His gaze lingered for a moment on Zindel before shifting to Akkira. He had known that the blind redblood had left the swamp—he had no idea that she had left to pursue a life such as this however.

“So you're spying on them,” Ephias reiterated. He leaned back in his seat and looked back at Chiara. His brows furrowed. “When you say 'sensitive information', you mean...?” He trailed off, regarding her expectantly.

Said the blueblood, slightly irritated. As a lowblood she did not really think he knew the dangers of publicly supporting and advertising other trolls. "So if they have, say, suspicious connections, or maybe they go somewhere a troll like them really shouldn't go, well, i need to know." Chiara gave Zindel's picture a glare and pointed to it. "I ******** stuck my neck out for this guy, against the queen of all people. To be honest, im not so sure it was worth it. But i did, and now i don't exactly have kind eyes on me." It was true, some of the insane royalists did not exactly think highly of her. Weather it was because of Zindel or not, well, who knew. Chiara coughed polity. Tho she did not exactly practice or support the practice, she did have a few of the holy words in a place close to her bloodpumper. "So it would be nice to know if anyone i am publicly showing my support for says something stupid. "

      ∞ Ephias Sagine

Contemplative, Ephias studied the blueblood. She surprised him. Her words could have very well been a ruse to get him to lower his guard, but supposing they were not... He would not have expected that of her. With a growing understanding of the situation, Ephias began to relax. He might not have known what the blueblood's allegiances were, but at least he had some grasp on her position. Ephias considered pressing Zindel for more information since he was obviously involved, but there was a possibility he was cahoots with Chiara. For now, Ephias could trust neither of them.

“I see,” Ephias said. As he mulled over the proposal, he tried to consider it from all angles. On one hand, he would have access to information he could use on behalf on the rebels. On the other, if what Chiara said was true, then he would allying himself with a person who had made an enemy of the empress. He could not afford to be outlawed twice... or could he? Unless he abandoned the Phoenix Initiative sooner or later, he would no doubt be found out again. It was just a matter of when and what he managed to achieve before then. A quiet life did not suit him.

Still, before he could take action he needed to pin down the blueblood's true motivation.

“And what makes you think I'm trustworthy?” he asked. Though he remained still, a picture of ease, sweat beaded on the back of his neck. His hands felt clammy.

You are a troll who is not exactly racing to kiss the empress's footsteps. Like me, you dont want to piss off the dam water breather, but at the same time, your not exactly what one would call a "good little redblood"."

Chiara opened a drawer, and pulled out another stressball. "Your obviously not normal and i dont see any other powerful troll, highblooded troll, trying to back you up. So you got plans." Chiara inspected the stress-ball's attempt at painting "fur" and its two round curly "horns" that sat on the creature's head. She quirked and eyebrow at the redblood, for once no smile on her face. "So what, my dear friend, would a redblood be doing working on high level science projects like space travel." Chiara threw the sheep themed ball up into the air, her eyes watching its trajectory. "Dont get me wrong, i believe in education and its charming to see someone who educates themselves. But lets face it; a redblood will never get credit for being the brains." The blueblood let the ball bounce onto the table, not even trying to catch it. "So that means, there is something else, someone else? that would be important enough for a lowblood to go out of their way for." Chiara watched the ball roll away, watched the sheep fall off the edge of the desk.

So, she suspected him of something, but had nothing to back up her suspicions. Ephias could live with that. The blueblood was dangerous, but manageably so. With a flicker of amusement, Ephias watched as the blueblood batted the woolbeast shaped stressball between her hands. For the first time his mouth cracked into the beginnings of a smile.

“I'm not looking for credit f-for anything,” he retorted. He leaned down to pick up the woolbeast and return it to the blueblood's desk. It let out a gentle squeak. “Space travel is beneficial for everyone. The sooner we reach the stars the better.” The blueblood had been patient with him so far. The least he could do was throw her a bone to keep her interest.

“So,” Ephias leaned towards the blueblood. “When do I start?”
