User ImageName: Nictor Sabbat
Nictor - mispronunciation of Nectar
Sabbat- derived from sabbatical, meaning a period of leave for the purpose of studies or travel

Blood colour: Yellow- # b3b100

Gender: Male

Symbol: This little pseudo bug face

Personality: Nictor just might be one of the most underwhelming trolls around. The mighty race known for their strength and brutality, capable and intimidating is the legacy of the trolls. Nictor does not live up to this legacy.
If Nictor had his way with how life played out, he'd get by unnoticed and unbothered. He honestly tries his best to do so too. That is until he trips over his own two feet, crashes into a bystander, accidentally flings a rock at someone's nose, and a street brawl breaks out.

If not for his inherent clumsiness tag teaming with his own lack of attention rearing its ugly caterwauling face at the absolute worst of times, he'd probably slip on through life without a second glance from anyone like he wants. However, he's not that lucky. His lack of coordination garners him plenty of sneers and jeering, especially when he manages to monumentally goof up in public. Now, alone, that'd just be eh, he runs into his furniture a bit more often than the average troll, his hand eye coordination is kind of garbage, and when his thoughts drift, he can forget what he's doing and smack into something. When other trolls are around though, this becomes a different story. His nerves make him jittery and motions abrupt, so this puts risk of accident higher right there. What Nictor then does is tries to force himself to pay attention to his movements to try and mitigate this new factor. This is sort of a hit and miss solution though. If it's a good day, he uses his focus on his own motions as a distraction from his anxiety, and can make a trip to town without more than a small stumble into a wall because he was staring at his feet. On a bad day though, he wouldn't be able to reign his focus in and becomes even more nervous as he is more aware of all the trolls around him and his mind is paying no attention to his body anymore, the effects of his mental floundering reflect in his motions, resulting in either making a spectacle of himself face planting in the street or accidentally slapping the wrong troll while flailing his arm in a sad attempt to regain his balance.

Likely the only thing that has saved him from an early death by his peers is quick reflexes that allow him to catch himself in the nick of time to save himself from the worst of the damage from him tripping over nothing, but never quite enough to stop him falling in the first place. He's got his body trained enough to catch itself, but he's still working on being able to stop it before it starts. Nictor is optimistic that he'll figure out how to work his own limbs better as time goes on, and looks forward to the days when he can freely roam without having to mentally track his every motion. Nictor has hopes that once he gets older and starts seriously training with his bo staff, he'll also be able to learn some proper muscle memory that will help keep his swinging limbs in line so he'll rely less on his mind to fix the problem, but trust his body to be able to handle itself. Until that time comes though, he expects a few cuts and bruises each day, and shrugs them off, accustom to the sting and tenderness.

Nictor has never been particularly confident or comfortable around other trolls. He's not outspoken, more likely to keep to himself and listen than initiate conversation. His lack of social skill shows in how he'll hold his legs akimbo and shoulders drawn, and definitely isn't helped by the verbal stops and fumbles that color his speech. Nictor knows that he lives in a world of brutality and war, one that he's never been entirely cut out for. This non-confrontational whelp quails easily under the ire of others, going silent when pushed too far, barely holding on to the instincts telling him to flee from the larger predator in front of him. The issue is pretty much everyone is labelled as a larger predator, whether they're being aggressive or not. Given this, trips into town for necessary supplies like groceries or sewing thread or first aid stuff that ought to be a simple task turn into a dreaded and difficult mission to get in and out as quickly as possible. His library trips aren't treated with the same anxiety, as he doesn't have to talk to anyone on his way to or from, but just having to travel through the town tends to put him in a nervous tizzy until he reaches the library gates. Nictor will venture into town if it's to pursue his own interests, like say if there is a vendor set up with a rare cacti he'd like to purchase or new adventure logs arriving in the library. The destination is worth the trouble of getting there. Luckily enough for him, he can pull himself together pretty quickly if given a small reprieve, so after reaching his destination, he isn't miserable from the trip over, just a mite bit jumpy from the presence of others.

When faced with provocation or teasing without the threat of harm, his reaction shifts from a nervous silence to a hilarious pout, complete with puffed up cheeks and just a bit of flailing. Seeing as he often lacks the words to convey his thoughts properly, he deemed this gesticulating good enough to make his upset clear. Half his communication comes out as motions and talking with his hands to make up for when his brain takes a hike and leaves him wordless. Teasing and hassle result the same as aggression though, with Nictor skirting corners and edges to keep away, not liking the stress that comes with interaction on these fronts. Still, he's never had much interaction with others, as he tries to get out and away as quickly as possible. If another troll could pin him down and talk to him more than passing niceties, he'd likely start to relax and might even engage them a bit, though sudden movements and exclamations would put him back on edge until it really gets through to him that it's okay. If it was anyone of higher blood caste, the longer and more messy the trip to getting Nictor to a workable mental state for interaction it would be. Anyone of yellow or less would have a lot easier of a time, but would still have to work past his initial distrust and innate fear for other trolls. If his lusus gave his approval too, it'd likely do wonders for Nictor trying to open up.

While Nictor might not be dead last on the hemospectrum, he knows he's of no importance to anyone but his lusus. While some yellowbloods are gifted with helpful abilities or powers that can gain them favor by upper classes, he is not one such troll. He's at manageable levels of awkward and fumbling around the other lower classes, comfortable in the knowledge that they're under the same dangers and fears as he. The knowledge of the hemospectrum and the treatment of trolls based upon blood color instilled a healthy dose of fear for his own race in him. It's a dangerous and cruel world out there, ready to chew him up and spit him out.

The blood color based hierarchy has never sat well with the young troll, wondering over the sense in it, but never enough to openly question or fight against it. While on some level he thinks it's silly to base an entire social system on the colors of your insides, he is already firmly molded into a low class citizen. Nictor knows his place is under the heel of anyone of green blood or higher. Given his own social abilities, he'd can hardly fathom back talking any of them, but he dreads the prospect of ever getting caught and used for sport like he'd heard rumors of, knowing his likelihood of survival would be dismal at best. Nictor just hopes he's never faced with anyone of higher blood because knowing his luck, he'll trip into them accidentally yank off their pants on his way to the ground.

With shoddy social skills and no real motivation to rectify his failings to connect with other trolls, Nictor is prone to more solitary hobbies. He's always had a fascination with the world around him and enjoys just laying back and stargazing, or finding the highest points he can get to without serious risk to his person and just admiring the landscape. There's nothing quite like a breathtaking view.

A regular patron of the Chittentown's library, Nictor is also a fan of adventure and exploration, and spends a day or two a week perusing the selection of books on the subject or brushing up on his plant knowledge. Being that Nictor gets injured a lot, he's learned quite a bit on how to treat injuries and alternative methods. It was in this learning process that he came across herbalism, which he frequently studies. At home, he tries to maintain some plants, like herbs and some small cacti, though one can guess some of the situations that's resulted in.

While a sedentary lifestyle may be safer for this walking disaster, Nictor is not quite inclined to remain still or idle. While he enjoys the downtime of sightseeing and day dreaming, he takes great joy in hiking the outskirts of Chittentown and exploring the less dangerous tunnels. He likes to draw up his own maps of the areas and mark the more dangerous parts as places he should avoid, but also as places he hopes to get to explore when he's older and more capable. Whenever he does go on outings to explore, he always takes a journal with him that he can take note of the local flora and fauna with, and sometimes sketches out what he sees. He's not a great artist, but he tries. As it stands now, he gets scraped and banged up a lot from the misadventures he and his lusus get up to, resulting in him keeping a well stocked first aid kits through most of his hive and a sewing kit for patching up his clothes.

Strengths:
Fast Reflexes- If Nictor's coordination is his greatest weakness, his impeccable reaction time is his saving grace. If he's already tripping, his reflexes keep him for the worst of harm, often redirecting the fall as to protect his more vital areas, and even managing to pull himself back upright at times. If he's paying attention to his movements, he can often prevent himself from any actual accidents occurring, though his motions are often jerky and abrupt as a result of him curbing his own misstep. If nothing else, he's learned how to keep himself alive with the resources he has, one of the biggest being his reaction time.

Resilient- Having been accompanied by klutziness his whole life, Nictor gets his fair share of injuries. After every single one though, he just smiles lightly and shrugs it off as a fact of life. After all, to pick himself up and keep going after every messy scrape and tumble, he's got to be a hardy guy. Not that he's a supertroll or anything, goodness no, but his pain tolerance is tried regularly, and the bangs hardly phase him anymore. Not only that though, but his uncanny ability to bounce back after a bout of anxiety or depression is admirable. This is particularly helpful given how much of a mess he can make of himself when he has to go into town. Give him a minute to calm down and he's good as new. Eh, as good as he ever was. With his great physical and mental recovery time, it goes to show he's made of tougher stuff than he seems.

Flaws:
Uncoordinated- In his earliest of days, Nictor would be better described as a disaster in motion. Nowadays, he'd be considered more klutzy or accident prone than anything else. It would seem that when he hatched, his sense of balance was precariously off kilter, so if he takes his mind off of his motions, they tend to fly wide of their mark and result in unwanted attention and injury. Usually, he tries to pay attention to his motions and it mitigates the worst of his clumsiness. Unfortunately, this lack of coordination not only exists in his body but in his mind and his thoughts tend to wander. His thoughts flit from one place to another, unorganized and messy, making focus difficult more often than Nictor would like. His attention will derail and hone in on the most inconsequential things, distracting him from more important things.

Apprehensive- Instilled with a near unhealthy dose of fear for trolls as a whole, his general lack of aggressive impulses, and near incapability to deal with others of his own volition, it's safe to say Nictor has some social anxiety and spends a good portion of his time in unease. He gets fidgety around others, is liable to flees at the slightest signs of annoyance, and goes stiff as a board in the presence of anyone of a higher caste, his mind immediately engaging panic mode. Nictor expects the worst in every social situation, and it doesn't do his mental state any favors to worry this much. He shies away from physical contact from any toll, expecting it to be an attempt to pull his teeth out or something just as horrible. If hegets too stressed, he will resort to keens and whines, to deep in the irrational fear of his own making to get push anything else past his lips. The only truly safe figure that his nerves don't act up around is his lusus.

Weapon: Bo Staff

Appearance: Nictor's hair naturally sets itself in a fluffy bed head that's just begging to be ruffled up some more. He has some longer hair in the back that's done into a short simple braid. He has two somewhat blunted fangs that tend to stick out a bit and often rest on his lower lip. Nictor's eyebrows are thick but short, and taper quickly. He has small scars from the scrapes he's taken over time, but nothing major, and a few birthmarks here and there. His horns match on both sides, growing up then hooking back with three upward curved prongs on each. He has a slightly oversized hoodie, black on the top half, bottom grey with black pocket, with two yellow stripes on the end of each sleeve. Rudimentary yellow stitching is across the black/grey border, and his symbol is placed overtop with stitched edges. He has black shorts with yellow accents across the bottom cuffs and the pockets, with yellow stitching on the seams. His shorts have some patched places where the same yellow thread was used. He wears knee high grey converses with black laces, accented with black, white, and yellow. He's typically dusted in pollen thanks to his lusus, so there are pollen stains and spots across his skin, clothing and hair.
Ref can be seen to the right. Here's the ref without pollen on him.

Home: Nictor and his lusus, Beehemoth, have constructed their hive on the outer fringes of Chittentown. The first floor has a connected nutrition and rumpus block, connected to his respite block and ablutions block. All the things troll needs. The second floor is a very different story. From the outside the entire hive looks to have patches of wax purposefully placed and the upper story windows are covered in large hexagonal structures. Inside isn't too much better, with a large portion of the space taken up by layers of the Bee's personal hive, used for collecting pollen and making honey, which is a slow process for one buzzbeast, but Bee doesn't mind. Considering how big Bee is and subsequently how large the structures are, Nictor can come up to the second story and move about easily. Also subsequently, the entire hive is dusted in a fine layer mixtures of pollen, with more distinct smears where Beehemoth's brushed against something. There are some useful plants that can be used for medicinal purposes around the hive and even some flowering cacti, though those are kept in higher, hard to reach places and Bee has to water them on Nictor's instructions. Outside, Nictor keeps some larger desert plant life, given the whole thing a natural sort of feel. Otherwise, the hive is kept cozy on the inside, with plenty of blankets, books, and a couple of well worn couches.

Lusus: Nictor's lusus is a great hulking insectoid creature that looks to be some kinds of bee/moth hybrid. Aptly enough, he was dubbed Beehemoth, sometimes just simply called Bee.

This big guy took one look at the beaten up but still struggling kid and knew his decision was made. He scooped up his new ward and took off as fast and far as he could, intent on removing Nictor the keen eye of other dangerous naturae, and this trend never really went away.

Beehemoth himself is a bit ungainly in his own right, as he is rather large. Bee is a worrier, constantly concerned over his charge, if he's taking care of Nictor well enough, how to keep him safe, and most importantly, how to make sure his little grub has the skills to survive. Bee isn't the smartest lusus out there, and really doesn't have the best sense of what is and isn't safe for a little troll, so he tends to be overly cautious with his teachings. As such, Bee might have gone a bit overboard in teaching Nictor about trollkind. Beehemoth did his best to instill the proper amount of fear and caution into his boy, and it may have worked too well, unfortunately. Still, this overprotective dad would rather be safe than sorry.

Aside from being fiercely protective of Nictor, Beehemoth is excitable and ridiculously proud of everything Nictor does. Bee loves seeing his little grub enjoying life, and thus encourages Nictor exploring his interests and having fun. As such, Bee often allows Nictor to explore the less dangerous places near the hive or takes his ward on short flying trips.

Bee's always worried about his clumsy child though, quite often about how much damage Nictor takes from everyday life. He becomes quite flustered whenever Nictor starts bleeding, which results in the troll being immediately ushered back to the hive where he has to patch himself up with a distraught parent buzzing about above him. One of the results of Bee's concerns is Nictor has a rudimentary staff that he practices a bit with each day, his caretaker wanting him to be accustomed to the idea of defending himself and be familiar with what will be his means to do so. Bee knows he won't be able to dog his ward's footsteps forever, and needs his little grub to be safe. In the interest of planning for the future, and sharing a very important activity with Nictor, Beehemoth lets his troll hang out in his part of the hive and observe the process of making honey, as one day, Nictor will be expected to assist.

Beehemoth is also very prone to hugging and snuggling up to Nictor, which has resulted in most of Nictor's clothing having pollen stains on them. As an insect, Bee communicates through gestures, small dances, phermones, and some clicks. Nictor's developed a pretty good sense of smell over time, and often uses hums and short, clipped noises to express opinions or emotions. His habit of gesturing wildly when upset also stemmed from Beehemoth's influence, though might also be a subtle mockery. The affectionate term little grub is one Nictor pouts at, but accepts none the less.

Power: Nope.

Howdy Taki! Reading through Nictor, he’s much improved in this iteration. There’s a few things I’d like to smooth out but he’s got a really solid foundation; nice work!

In the first paragraph, you go into detail about Nictor’s lack of presence, but my concern is that your descriptions rely on others not remembering or caring to know him, rather than explain HOW he’s unimpressive. Much later you mention that he’s soft spoken and socially unconfident, but with his severe lack of motor skills I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t make an impression on someone! Even then I can’t imagine even a quiet, awkward troll would be totally unmemorable. I’m not buying this intro because of that, and especially because the way it’s written seems to be projecting a response onto the trolls that will interact with him. In short, make sure that you’re describing who he is as a character and how that makes him underwhelming and downplay the assumption of others’ opinions. I think you do a fine job of going into his character later and don't need the bulk of the intro to tell us who we might think he is.

I’d like a little bit of clarification here on Nictor’s clumsiness. I’m not typically keen on clumsiness being a stand-alone flaw so I’m always skeptical - but, it's working alright here! However, sometimes it seems like a really serious physical health issue and other times it’s revealed as being as much about his physical tics as a general lack of orderliness in his thinkpan! I'm really interested in that. In his Uncoordinated strength, for instance: “His thoughts flit from one place to another, unorganized and messy, making focus difficult more often than Nictor would like.” Is Nictor’s klutziness primarily derived from his lack of social and mental disorganization? How do these factors feed into each other, if at all? You have the pieces written out and they’re really fascinating, but they’re occasionally disconnected from each other. If they’re indeed connected, I think it’s a matter of organizing the information to tie it all together.

From a shop point of view, Nictor is going to have to get out and have some interactions with trolls though it’s frequently mentioned that he prefers solitude because of his social skills. In what situation might he go out and see others, or take part in events? (This doesn't need to be him seeking or enjoying company, just having some motivation to put himself in a social situation or event). And, is there a point where he can become comfortable with company?

At first I was iffy on Nictor’s strengths because he appears to have two physical based strengths – reflexes and his resilience (which is primarily physical). You DO mention some mental strength with his resilience, but I might suggest delving into that a bit more. It seems as though with his discomfort and flight mechanism with his skittishness is less “resilience” and more danger avoidance as well, so I am not seeing it in play as much as I would like. It’s also weakened a bit in his “apprehensive” trait where you go into his anxiety in more detail. Overall I’m definitely buying the physical portion of this strength, but you may want to revisit it or add another strength to balance out physical vs. social vs. mental etc etc.

Love Beehemoth. heart Alright, that's all I've got for now!

Sorry it's taken a couple of weeks to get around to it but here we are |D;;
Yeah, old version of Nictor was not great. I red through what his original was and I know what I was getting at, but my methods of explaining aren't very clear so that was a train wreck. I'm liking how he's shaping up here a lot better too.

Mmm, makes sense, yeah. I went ahead and pulled the opening part out, replacing it with a bit more of Nictor wishes he could get by unnoticed but that's just too damn bad now isn't it. I pulled out anything that seemed like projecting what trolls would see him as, so hopefully that's taken car of.

I see where you're coming from there. Again, that's a fault on my part of I know what I want to get at but wording it and working it in can stump me at times. I've tried to clarify and work it in as best I can, but what I'm going for is that his sense of balance isn't totally right to begin with. Now, alone, that'd just be eh, he runs into his furniture a bit more often than the average person, his hand eye coordination is kind of garbage, and when his thoughts drift, he can forget what he's doing and smack into something. When other trolls are around though, this becomes a different story. His nerves make his jittery and motions abrupt, so this puts risk of accident higher right there. What he then does is tries to force himself to pay attention to his movements to try and mitigate this new factor. This is sort of a hit and miss solution though. If it's a good day, he uses his focus on his own motions as a distraction from his anxiety, and can make a trip to town without anything about a small stumble into a wall because he was staring at his feet. On a bad day though, he wouldn't be able to reign his focus in and becomes even more nervous as he is more aware of all the trolls around him and his mind is paying no attention to his body anymore, the effects of his mental floundering reflect in his motions, causing more stumbles and crashes.
... I'm just gonna go put this up there as it is exactly what I'm getting at.

I went in and addressed him making trips and putting himself into a situation set up for social interaction, made a bit of an opening for strengthening his resilience, so plus there. Added a bit about his potentiality for dealing with others.

So reflexes is still a pure physical, resilience has been buffed to be a more even physical mental split. Uncoordinated has been smoothed out along with his clumsiness explanation in general, being both a physical and mental, the mental honestly being more severe I think. Apprehensive is mental/social weakness. Hopefully it works out a lot better now P:

Beehemoth also got some nice overhaul from v1.0, which I'm quite please with too. Glad he's working for you.

Thanks for the help! o vo
