The sun was finally setting and afternoon was rolling in. The day was overall nice, but the traveling horse could not find any enjoyment out of the weather today, and was instead felt her day was dull and lacked anything interesting. She felt like today was dragging on – she kept looking towards the sky, as if checking it would cause time to move faster. And once again, she couldn’t help herself but look up again, mentally urging the sun once more to move faster and make it night. Today had been a bit of a bore and she was eager for a new day. She would need to pass some time until then, she decided. Wings tucked against her slender body, Rajiv traversed through the plain she was in and made her way through a nearby meadow. A gentle breeze blew through the area, making the tree branches dance and the tall grass tickle her legs.
Reaching a small cluster of flowers, she lowered her head to take a whiff of their scent – sweet and pleasant as always, the flowers were at least a distraction from her boredom. Feeling a wave of comfort sweep over her, she collapsed on the ground, cooing happily as the bright flowers and grass engulfed her. Rolling onto her back, her legs kicked the open air and she buried her head further into the flowers. She was probably an odd sight for any passer-byers. Picturing herself, she laughed softly to herself. She felt her day already brightening up. At least today will be ending on a good note, she thought to herself.
Still on her back, Rajiv took this opportunity to look back to the sky, taking in the light blues and purples and oranges. It was a bit breath taking to be able to see all the beautiful colors combined together, transitioning from one to another like a painting. And to complete the picture, dotted about the sky was white puffy clouds. The mare stared at the clouds, eager to find secret imagery in the puffy objects. She mentally traced out shapes and pictures in the clouds in her mind, finding images such as a leaf in one and the silhouette of a squirrel in another. Rajiv could at least manage to find relief in this small activity, a familiar task she indulged herself in from time to time. She let out a small yawn. This was always the time of the day where Rajiv felt particularly drowsy – maybe it was time to take this opportunity to take a short nap. She rolled over, legs hitting the ground stiffly. The grass took the opportunity to reclaim her legs, hiding them between the long blades.

Rajiv had an ear pressed against the ground, and could hear something moving slowly, coming towards her general direction. By the way the steps fell, she could only assume it was something large. Another horse, perhaps? They would probably just avoid her or completely miss her, so she didn’t feel bothered enough to lift her head to see what it was until she heard a voice. The mare flinched, somewhat astonished to hear someone call out to her. Tilting her head so she could see over the grass, she could see a blue and white stallion tangled in some ribbon in the distance, moving towards her. She was surprised he wasn’t tripping all over himself with every step, for she was confident if she was in his position, she’d spend most her time tumbling all over the ground. She shuffled around a bit, rolling on to her hooves with more clumsiness than grace.
Back on her hooves, she stretched her stiff legs and smiled at the stallion. "Ho, there!" she called back out to him, her feline tail wagging a bit anxiously. She was not exactly expecting a visitor, but she wasn’t going to complain about seeing a new face. She did really like company, after all. And…the day had been extremely boring so far! Meeting a new face is exactly something she could use to put a smile on her face and excitement in her life. She shuffled between hooves, unsure if she close the distance gap between the two of them or let him keep approaching her. "W-who might you be?" she said shyly.

She jumped slightly at seeing the stallion stumble. "A-ah, are you okay?" she said worriedly, shuffling towards him, concerned. The caring, overprotective side of her wanted to check over to make sure he was not bruised anywhere - even if there would be no point since he was a healer. She figured she should refrain herself, however, because she was unsure how he would appreciate the mare inspecting himself. Instead she came to a stop as she finished closing the distance and shifted uncomfortably between her front hooves, making her appear a little anxious. "Um, my name is Rajiv," she said, smiling and nodding ever so slightly in acknowledgement. "It’s nice to meet you, Shiro." Her tail curled around one of her hind legs.
"And yes, it is a very nice day. I haven’t found a thing wrong about it so far," she replied. She turned her attention to the sky once more; the sun was dipping lower and lower on the horizon, and the sky was ready to transition into the night, with a couple of stars flickering, showcasing their first twinkles. "Or was a nice day – I suppose the day is over at this point," Rajiv mumbled, mostly to herself. Snapping her attention back to the male, she twitched an ear. "So what brings you here anyway, Shiro? I haven’t seen you around these parts before. I mean, I’m sure I haven’t seen you before," she said. I would have definitely recognized or remembered a stallion tumbling over himself, after all! she thought to herself.

"Oh, ok, I see," she answered, cocking her head to the side curiously. "I couldn’t imagine that, Shiro. It must get tiresome of something after a while!" Rajiv pictured the quirky stallion stumbling down a mountain, amused by the idea.
"Wow, from the mountains? Sounds cool," she said jokingly, amused by her own pun. She couldn’t imagine that lifestyle; she enjoyed the warm weather too much. The mare hated it when it got to be even chilly during the winter time – the cold eating at her joints, being unable to control her body from shuddering as she felt her blood chill… The thought was making her shiver a little. She was used to her quiet lifestyle in the moderate climate she made her home. It made napping and general strolling around easier. Tuning back into the conversation, she quickly quipped in, "I can understand that, though. The heat doesn’t bother me one bit, but that’s because I’ve lived here my whole life. If I was in the mountains... Well, I don’t think that’d end well for me, ha ha. But uh, if you need help gathering some food, I can help you out." She didn’t mind helping Shiro out. While clumsy, he seemed very kind-hearted, which she liked.
"Yep, I’m from here. Been here for awhile now. Something about this place is so serene," she said, pausing to reflect. She had arrived here a few months ago; the overall quietness it lent allowed her to clear her thoughts as well as get away from others - while she wasn’t opposed to meeting other horses, she saw that living in this area allowed her to meet others on occasion versus a constant influx, which she found to be draining.

Rajiv reflected on what he said; considering his clumsiness, living in a colder climate made perfect sense now. Though falling face first into snow was not pleasant in her mind either – in the one or two trips she’s made to a colder setting, she could recall that happening to her: tumbling from getting a hoof stuck behind a root, she fell face first and was met with an unpleasant coldness that was surprisingly painful in its own way. Avoiding the temptation to get lost in her own thoughts, she shook her head very slightly.
"I can understand that," she said sympathetically. "I suppose I just don’t have the guts to live like that. To each their own though." She smiled and gazed around as he described the area around. "Yes, I definitely love that. Feels refreshing to see all the green grass and braid flowers in my mane. Snow is… well, it is fun, but gets boring after a while. Besides! From over here, you can look at the mountains in the distance. They’re definitely, by far, a lot better to look at from a distance."
Her tail curled around her back legs shyly at the mention of family or herd pack. "N-no. Well, I have two children but, I haven’t seen them in a long time. I mean, the father took one of the baskets and the other one moved off the moment he was old enough to be on his own. I-I wonder how they’re doing…" she said wistfully, looking to the side. "But yeah. Um, I live alone too. It gets lonely sometimes, but you just have to deal with it, ya know? I’m not too sure if I’m meant for a um, 'permanent' type of companion. Sometimes wish I had a buddy or something to stick around with me. A friend or animal or something, just to keep me from getting lost in my own thoughts." Rajiv sighed. "Sorry, probably sounds like I’m a little crazy. Or depressed. Or a combination of both." Maybe that’s what happens when you’re not in a herd, she thought to herself, you get all stir crazy and start to look silly and embarrass yourself in front of strangers!
When he signaled out his key, her eyes jumped to it, looking at it curiously. "Key to your past or something? Or an heirloom from an old friend?" she asked inquisitively. Perhaps that’s why he wanted to know if she was part of a herd – perhaps his friend was from a herd that was located in these parts? She mulled over different possibilities. "If you’re looking for someone… I’m not sure I could help. I’m familiar with these parts, but not so much with the herds that are in these parts. I’m sorry."

"You have a strength and resilience I'll never get for myself, Shiro," she said, giggling a little. Listening to him indulge her on his life a little, Rajiv nodded. "That sounds very nice. Makes me curious about my parents. I never really got to know them, not that I mind. I guess I've always been somewhat of a free spirit." She looked wistfully in the distance, inspecting the far-off mountains and their snowy caps as she mulled over her thoughts. Absent mindedly, she asked, "Have you ever gone by one of the two-legger villges? The mountains... Reminds me of the lovely paintings they create to barter with. Have you ever seen one?"
"A familiar companion - why, the idea slipped my mind. It would be really nice to have one. Perhaps a small feline critter would do, so it would be like myself. That... would be nice. Could laze about in the sun and take naps together," she said with a soft giggle, curling her tail around one of her legs to emphasize her prominent cat-like features. "But I suppose you're right. It would be nice to see my kids again - know what they're up to and all. Maybe they have a family of their own - oh, it's frightening to think I could be a grandma and not even know it!" It definitely put the idea in her head; perhaps she could seek them out - maybe they were trying to seek her out as well?
Hearing him talk about his family and past couldn't help but make her feel sad for him; while she lost contact with her children, it seemed to pale in comparison to his life. It was one thing to not know where your kids are but know they're out there, but having lost contact with his mother and losing a sibling birthed alongside oneself seemed a lot more upsetting. "I'm sorry to hear about it. And maybe you'll meet this filly again one day and she'll help you remember," she said, her ears flicking down and brows furrowing. "Do you know her name? Maybe I know her on some off chance. Or could help direct her to you, if she and I were ever to meet, on some off chance. You don't know, maybe she ventures these parts!" She tried to amp herself up a little so she wouldn't feel bummed down by the negative talk.
Rajiv nodded. "I think there's some sort of medicinal herbs not too far from here. At least I hear they are - I'm not really a healer, but I hear gossip every now and then. I can show you the way, if you'd like? Unless you already know where you were planning to go."
