Aumia paced the border of the Pridelands, trying to decide if she had enough coruage to leave. She felt like life here was so boring, and nothing interesting ever happened. Where was the excitement, the adventure, the danger? Not here.

She sighed, staring out at the rogue lands before her. She knew that there were other prides out there, far away. Would they give her the fulfillment she needed?

"Yes....no? Augh!" She growling, clawing at the ground with continued indecision. Perhaps she should sleep on it again. Then maybe she could finally decide where to go, instead of 'anywhere but home.' Anywhere never sounded good, and she was sure her siblings would laugh at her for her thirst for something more.

"Maybe I'll never decide," she mumbled.

After the fall of the Ukuucha'Wafalme - and good riddance to any pride that thought lionesses were chattel to be owned, abused, and traded at will - Aibu had wandered again. She did, on reflection, feel somewhat bad for the cubs that she'd helped kidnap, but they were young. They'd get over it. After all, she had.

The thought brought a sardonic smile to Aibu's face, a twist of the lips that could hardly be called happy.

The expression faded instantly as the black lioness heard words on the wind. Not loud enough for her to understand, but enough to know she was no longer alone. The lioness didn't bother to conceal herself as she headed towards the source of the sounds - a rusty and black lioness clawing furrows into the ground. Aibu raised an eyebrow at the sight. This sleek and well-fed female didn't seem to be in want, so why the clear evidence of frustration?

"I doubt the ground's done anything to hurt you," she observed dryly.

Aumia was a bit startled to see someone else, but she was a huntress, not a scout; she never bothered to train her senses to worry about someone approaching her. She seemed...different. Did she come from out there, in the wild lands that rogues wandered through?

"It holds me back," she replied, a slight growl in her voice. It wasn't the ground that did so, but it was an easy place to lay the blame. Blood, mild loyalty, family...and a twinge of fear held her back.

"You aren't from around here....are you?" Her phrase almost started as a challenge, but morphed into a question at the end. She didn't think this stranger was from here, but the Pridelands were so massive (and boring) that it was impossible to know everyone.

"The ground holds you back." Aibu repeated the sentence with a slight note of disbelief in her voice, and didn't bother hiding the disdain in her red eyes. She could take such a statement at face value if they were in the mountains. Or a swamp. Any place where the actual terrain was a potential threat. In these softly rolling plains...the other lioness' statement was a blatant excuse.

"No, I am not," the black lioness answered with a glint in her eye. If the other female thought to challenge her, she had another thing coming. Aibu had no qualms about rending the other to bloody sthreds.

Aumia sighed. "Its what this ground means to me, whether I believe it or not." She grumbled, clearly having issues in believing what she was saying...and yet she hadn't been able to leave it. "Its...stupid. And complicated."

Would this lioness even understand her? Probably not. Irritation filled Aumia, with no outlet for it.

"You're lucky." Aumia's reply to the lioness confirming her lack of attachment for a pride was curt. "Is it really an easier way to live?" Ugh! Look at her! Aumia couldn't believe she was whining like this!

"No, nevermind. It has to be." She shook her head, trying to decide if she should try to get a bit more of something out of the lioness or just turn tail and run home.

Aumia had no idea that it could be much tougher out there. She'd never gone a day hungry, or without shelter, or protection.

What the ground meant to her, whether she believed it or not. Now that was a very strange way to describe it. It seemed to Aibu that the other lioness had invisible shackles of tradition, birth, and duty tying her to this place. It had to be a pride, as few rogues were as particular about a location as a pride tended to be. Which was good to know.

"If I am lucky," the dark lioness said at last, "it is because I am free of all the ties that once bound me." She hadn't decided yet if the other female was really worth her time, but anyone who could recognize the bonds denying their freedom for what they were deserved a chance to break them. If the rusty lioness actually had it in her to leave, well and good. If not, then she could scratch at the dirt until her claws went dull for all Aibu cared.

"Free...." That sounded nice. Besides....she didn't have to completely sever these ties, did she?

Aumia was surprised that this stranger was really making her see this dream of her's in a different light. She...appreciated it. Somehow it felt impossible to talk to anyone in her family about how she felt, for fear that they would decide she was trying to abandon them. No...but it did stir up a bit of bitterness, having that thought cross her mind.

"Do you have any regrets, wandering where you're free to go?" It seemed like a dumb question, but Aumia didn't know anyone that just wandered as the wished.

It seemed she'd struck a chord. Good. It couldn't be certain whether the seeds she planted today would sprout and grow or wither and die, but they had been planted regardless. Not that Aibu really cared what happened to this lioness.

"Regrets?" she repeated aloud, musing. On some days she would say that she had none. On others she'd call her whole life one big regret. Today the black lioness felt...violent.

"Only that I never bothered to eviscerate those who made it a living hell," Aibu replied nastily, a bloodthirsty gleam in her red eyes.

Aumia felt a chill run down her spine, a mixture of fear and...thrill? It was fascinating to see her shift to such a vicious tone so quickly.

"Wow," she replied, though there wasn't much fear in her voice. More...fascination. She wouldn't ask for a story, never, but it definitely was an eye opener to exchange words with someone who held such a level of anger. The Pridelands was far too complacent for her to ever run into that here.

"Thank you," she replied, meaning it. "I think...I may try to sever these bonds this land holds me to. It can't be that hard to just try it." Regrets could be something she would worry about later, if she ever thought to reflect on them.

Well, this was promising indeed. There was something worthwhile in the other lioness if she could take such a statement so calmly. Perhaps she was now considering applying such a solution to her own case. That would be nice, though Aibu didn't hold out that much hope for her.

"You're welcome," the black female replied pleasantly enough. "Just don't leave it too long, or you'll forget there's a world outside." She'd seen that before too, in that gods-be-damned harem pride where far too many lionesses were too beat down to even consider that they could one day be free.

With that, Aibu turned and went on her way. Now that she knew there was a pride in the area, she'd avoid it wholeheartedly. She wasn't some crusader, bent on freeing captives from their traps, but she was only one lioness and not stupid enough to take on a pride of idiots willing to defend their status quo.

Aumia watched the dark lioness leave, feeling a mixture of emotions. She would think of what she heard this day, and she knew that at some point, she'd leave these lands. She would. Really!

She decided that a good hunt would help her fluctuating emotions even out, and so she trotted off to go join a hunting party. Maybe one of her siblings would actually hear her out later.

Hopefully.
