“Sure!” said Vona. She could fly up the Kargoth, or climb, but it would be so much easier to have a hand. Once firmly ensconced in the saddle – and with Raemos secured – she gave Betty a rub, just behind the ears. “Id not load her up too much.” she said, thoughtfully. Betty seemed fine, but the bandages around her foot were still fresh, and she didn't want the cut to get any worse than it was. Kargoth were hardy beasts, but it only took one accident in the wrong place to bring her down. To bring anybody down. Like her brother.
She looked down at Raemos as he lay there, prone and exhausted on Bettys furred back, the straps keeping him from sliding around: her back would move, undulating with every step, moreso if she started to favor that foot...
“She was injured before.” Vona explained, “I need her to get us home, and she's got a lot to carry already.” She looked at Raemos again. “He'll be okay, right?” she asked. He looked so vulnerable, despite his combat equipment. His empty eyes were half-lidded now, and she could barely see him breathing. “He just overextended, right?”
She hoped so. She hoped that the fight hadn't somehow put him over the edge. He'd been doing so much these past few days... goddess... days... The trip between Taliuma and their ranch was only supposed to be a day at most! How many days did her brother have? How many days did their father have? What would they come home to? She gave Kadryn a shaky smile.
“Sorry, Ma'am.” she said, trying to inject some cheeriness into her voice, “It's been a rough few days.”

Vona, inexperienced as she was with actual fighting situations and with her brother unconcious on the back of a large injured animal, payed close attention to the woman's advice. “Thank you...” she said.
Whenever Kadryn would set off on a patrol, Vona would wait anxiously for her return. It was always a relief to see that calm, easygoing face, so reassuring to see the powerful mace at Kadryn's belt.
In between, though, it was quiet going. They were fortunate – the mara did not accost them further as they made their way to their childhood home. But neither did the usual desert creatures, not even the harmless ones. Everything had been chased away by the stone monsters, and had left behind a desolate desert wasteland.
During the stop at midday, Vona, too, rested, falling into a drained sleep. She was surprised: she had done little but ride these past few days. But, it seemed, riding on the kargoth and lugging large pieces of stone was physically draining. And the worry – for her father, her mother, her brother, the kargoth, and herself – was emotionally draining, too.
Fortunately, as Betty the kargoth slept for herself, Raemos awoke. He was aching and groggy, but he was alive and was able to move and talk. At their campsite, though, they could hear the grinding, crystal-clear rumbles and calls of the Mara – they were nearby, on the move. The siblings were tense and ready to move, though Betty still slept and they would have had to wake her. Still, they would have left at a moments notice and raced for home... But none showed on the horizon or accosted them, and Kadryn's patrols turned up nothing within a threatening range
(Though, she did have a good workout dealing with a few 'suspect' ones. Not that the siblings could complain when the older orderite returned, smug and freshly flushed in the face from smashing living rock)
Night fell and the Kargoth was woken to continue their trek across the endless, cold, dry void of the desert. Occasionally, in the distance, there were lights – but whether travellers or Mara, it was hard to tell. The darkness was a disadvantage to Kadryn, of course, but fortunately the Mara were not subtle, nor were the travellers far from their destination: Ahead of them in the almost alien and flat land of sand and dunes arose a portion of bush, marking the aquifer that had sustained them and their family for so long. And, beyond – home, a log cabin that glowed with warmth and light.
“We're there...” murmured Vona, relieved.
“Thank Seren...” murmured Raemos, his arm around his sister's shoulder.
They turned to Kadryn. “Thank you.” said Vona, Raemos nodding in agreement, “We... We're glad you stuck around.”

DraconicFeline finally done O.o Sorry for being so slow with this one! Kadryn’s patrols were boring. Lovely day for flying, but nothing to fight. So she started going a bit farther a field to find something to hit. There was, she was sad to see, a lack of dragons for her to hit; just some of the slower rock mara’s. Must be scouts of a sort, she thought as she looked at the rubble of the last one, best kind of scouts; even if they die they still give you their information! She was worried about the balls of light that kept fleeing; how many can there be at one time? And is there an endless supply of them?
That, though, was for others to figure out; she was here only to get some information and get these kids home! Much as she’d like to have followed the lights… The young ones looked worse for wear, and Kadryn was hoping they’d find their home soon. Not sure how long they can keep this up; they’re going to need a good rest for a while. Especially the girl! The stress and worry are probably harming her more than the trip, but she was holding up so far and the relief when they spotted a house was almost palatable.
“You are most welcome! I couldn’t leave such a cute couple out alone in the desert!” She grinned and ruffled the oblivionites hair. “Nice to know I’m not the only one with a family who supports a mixed marriage.”
With that she unfurled her wings and flew up into the air. “Since you’re safe now, I’m off to go hunt a bit more than head back to Ayr! Maybe I’ll run into you one day!”
With that she flew off into the night; her blood itching for a really right, one with lots of smashing, hitting, and blood! Or shattering rocks since mara’s were very lacking in the blood department. Made for a lot easier clean up, but not quite as satisfying in some ways.
As she flew off, Kadryn noticed burns to the north. Deviating from her path she gasped as she saw the ports burning… and the Mara taking the boats. Some had already left the docks, filled with mara standing still as they sped along with a spell pulling them back towards the port they came from. Some were headed in the direction of Ayr, others to Serenia and yet more in different directions. She was torn; she wanted to smash them now.. but couldn’t. She could spot different mara; ones that cried out age and knew if she dove down to try and sink the boats things would end badly. I’ll have to try and beat them to the ports across the sea! Warm them of what is coming….
