Name: Durand Kujaco

Blood colour: █████████████ #B5A31D

Gender: Male

Symbol: Maybe?

Personality:
Everyone knows Durand is a bit of a sarcastic, egotistical douchebag, but what they don't know is he has many interesting hobbies such as card games. Durand has a great poker face and loves to unwind with a table full of those who can stand his personality and a deck of cards. Cards are a way he learns a person, he can learn the ticks when they're lying or their faces when they've been dealt a less than ideal hand. He puts his intuitive nature to use, despite unwinding. He plays cards so often because he feels incredibly in control and commanding.

Because of Durand's very independent nature he's learned to do a lot of things himself. Durand knows how to survive on his own. Because of this, accomplishments made by others appear rather worthless to him. He'll often snub any talk of minor accomplishments, and rarely he might explain that it hardly counts as a success. He'll tell that person to try harder, to shoot for loftier goals. Come back later when you have something real to brag about. A failure wouldn't... hurt him, but he would get seriously annoyed with himself and try again in whatever it was he failed. If it wast trying to charm a highblood, and he failed, he would suck it up and try again if he thought it would benefit him in some way. If someone calls him out upon his failure he will get fairly snippy and maybe resort to a physical display of his annoyance, be it a punch to a troll or throwing things around his hive (much to the dismay of his Lusus).

He likes his body and thinks he's got the best one no matter what anyone says. He works hard on his lean, muscled form, (even if it does have some baby fat he can't trim down) thank you very much. That's another thing. As soon as he wakes up, after the evening meal he goes for a jog and then works to tone himself so he has the bod to back up his words. It just makes him feel generally a lot more happy when he's focusing on his body, on getting that 'perfect' physique.

He uses this physique, and other things, to charm people. Most of his charisma lies in his diction, and occasionally in his actions, but he prefers to do so subtly rather than open with an obvious act like bringing someone flowers. With such a strong personality, he already commands the attention of his audience, but with a little persuasion and natural charm, he can mete out some followers of the crowd.

He does tend to scare rather easily over the most mundane things. Thunder? You bet. Sudden loud noises in the dark? He's going to be in someone's lap and holding hem. Then he'll play it off and basically shoving the other person away asking "Why did you grab me? You scared?" Of course if you point out he clung to you first, he'll deny it and scoff at you, but won't call you a liar. He basically turns into a giant flustered troll-ball.

His feelings towards the hemospectrum are... honestly negative. It fuels his need to prove himself better than everyone else out there. Working out is also a way to gain the muscle he needs to protect himself. He tends to go toe to toe with any blood color, but the higher they are, the more Durand has to prove he's the top dog. Unfortunately this gets him treated like trash even more than usual, so the kid knows how to take a punch. Durand has learned the extremely hard way how to pick his fights. He's been left recuperacoon ridden and broken boned more than once and had to crawl his way back home. Fortunately most of the broken bones are ribs, sometimes his nose. So far it's never been his legs, so he can actually stumble in the door of his hive and just hide out. So if the troll he's wanting to defy is obviously going to murder him in a fight, he'll snark behind their back or make faces at their backs. If word gets back to said troll he's been doing that, and said troll wants to retaliate, well, that's where his taking a punch comes in handy.

It took some learning, but for the most part Durand can splint an arm one handed well enough to make sure the bone is straight. If he doesn't think he can, or he has an injury he can't reach he will begrudgingly go find someone and ask for help. He doesn't really like asking for help, but there are just some things he can't do by himself.

In all honesty, Druand sides with the rebels. He hates getting treated like he's lesser just because of his blood. The way he sees it, everyone has blood, colors should honestly not matter. That being said, if he doesn't automatically hate every royal. Not everyone acts like their blood color or their place in the hemospectrum, but he usually sides with the rebels. Equality for all!

Strengths:
Confident -- This particular yellow blood is very sure of himself. He knows his strengths, and he knows how to use them too. He's not one to slink around with his gaze to the floor or shirk hard tasks because he doesn't know if he can do them. No, he'll take on just about anything, and at least look like he knows what he's doing. He loves being sure of himself, he loves not faltering under uncertainty, because there is no uncertainty when it comes to himself, and he knows other people can see that. He knows people notice when he holds his head high, and he loves it because that's natural for him. Confidence is simply part of his nature.

His ego originates from his need to prove himself to be above the normal 'yellowbloods'. He thinks he is the best, therefore everything he does is to prove that.

Independent -- Durand has never been the helpless sort. He's always striven to function on his own, and managed to do so wonderfully thus far. He lives on his own as a result, but he's accomplished his independence due to his drive to be able to function as a single entity, rather than leech off of someone or something else. As a result, he's not going to bother anyone for help on a project, or beg someone to take him somewhere. He'd more than likely be the person subjected to said begging.

For the most part, as far as his charisma and manipulation goes, he does tend to prey on those below him, more oblivious ones. Every now and then he likes to try out a highblood, manipulate them to get what he wants, which is usually status and maybe some pretty cool things.

Intuitive -- Body language betrays what words will not, and Durand is keen on it. He can, on occasion, sense how someone is feeling and act on it accordingly (especially if he can demonstrate a little of his charm in the process). If someone is crossing their legs away from him, he can infer they don't trust him, and seek to change that. It may not be the case, and he's not always accurate, but he does take great pains to read people as best he can. After all, how is he supposed to tantalize someone with his excellent personality if he can't even discern whether they're in the mood to even speak with him?

Flaws:
Arrogant -- Durand may be confident, but he's confident without limitation. Such glorious self-confidence can come off as complete arrogance, and it's a fairly accurate assumption. To be frank, Durand is totally full of himself. He knows he's the best there is, and he loves to demonstrate that to others. Unfortunately, others don't really appreciate the massive displays of preening and flaunting his talents. Sometimes his arrogance is abrasive, and drives people away, and Durand just doesn't know how to keep his exorbitant amounts of confidence to himself sometimes.

Manipulative -- Since he knows how to read people, Durand knows how to use people. It's only a natural progression to him, and if they don't notice they're being manipulated, then how is it such a bad thing? If there's something Durand wants someone to do, he'll manipulate them into it via suggestive language, or by playing off of guilt complexes, or pretty much any trick he can come up with. It doesn't always work, but that doesn't stop him from trying to pull their strings so he doesn't have to swallow his arrogance and ask for something of them. However, Durand often underestimates the intelligence of others, and when they catch on, their interaction goes sour fast. Once he's caught, he's incredulous and offended, and often times it'll earn him an extremely negative reputation. Many a time his machinations have backfired, and he lost several friends as a result. He just doesn't see any fault in his decisions there.

Mercurial -- Durand alternates between moods often. One moment he might be excited, though the next he'll end up somewhere near depressed. These are usually precipitated by minor changes, sometimes infinitesimally so. It presents an annoyingly unpredictable nature to dealing with Durand. One can't reliably instigate a change in him; what worked before to liven his mood again may not work now. There's simply no way around it - dealing with Durand entails dealing with his unpredictable mood swings. His moodiness stems from both internal and external forces. A lot comes into play. He could have woken up on the wrong side of the bed so to speak, and would be extremely irritable all night, or at least until something happens to either kick him while he feels down or to lift his spirits.

Weapon: Chains that he uses similar to a whip, he can trip someone up with them or strike them depending on a simple flick of his wrist.

Appearance: Reference; though more inspiration. Nothing set in stone.

Clothes that I think could work:
Hairstyle I super enjoy, More hair I super love, Like this but no hat, glasses, or camera? Something with a hipster feel? Can add patterns to over shirt if you want?

Home: Suburb; a small hive that he keeps very precise and clean. A messy hive doesn't really sit well with him. It's almost too clean, in all honesty. Just like his body and looks, Durand takes pride in his tiny little hive. There's nothing excessive or out of place.

Lusus: Naked Mole Rat Dad; WrinkleDad he's called, tended to chide Durand for acting out of the normal for his blood color. After time, he's given up and just lets Durand be for the most part, only really interfering when he thinks Durand is getting too big for his breeches. Since Durand is no longer a grub, he wants the troll to figure out life himself and hopefully, hopefully after pushing others away with his uppity personality can WrinkleDad make headway and actually teach Durand the way a yellowblood is supposed to act.

Power: Nope

two things that need looking over! I need his hex code for his blood - try using colorpicker and our handy dandy reference guide to find a non-mutant yellow hue, settle on it, and put it in his profile please!

second, his lusus's section is very underdeveloped. as a kid he's gonna have his parent with him everywhere - it's a good idea to get their personality and how they play off each other down. what kind of temperament does his parent have? do they encourage him or chide him for not being a 'normal' lowblood? how do they raise him? and of course, does he have any pet name for his lusus? (harlessdad, toothmom, sillyname, etc)

for his reference if you don't provide me with any more ideas or suggestions he will be in a t-shirt and pants. if that's fine then no worries there!

his weapon and home description are also a bit sparse. i'm not sure what 'chains' is, does he wrap them around his fists? use them as a whip? this will be a thing that i need to know for his eventual adult art;;
home does not require too much detail, but again it helps develop him. is it a small home? large? does he keep it neat or let it go to pieces? what would other trolls see when they go to visit?

thanks!

Hey Sergio! Sypon here for crits. He’s looking much better now that you’ve fleshed out his personality section! For my sake I have a couple of elaborating questions, but other than that he is good to go!

Where did Durand’s ego originate? As a kid he seems really ambitious but only concerning his own goals. With that in mind, does he strive for status or just the attention and affirmation that he’s “the best”?

You mention early on that “everyone knows” that Durand is a jerk, and it seems like his personality and poor attitude is pretty obvious. So when his charisma and manipulativeness is brought up, I’m curious how effective he actually is. Some less observant trolls would certainly follow him, but others (particularly higher blooded) would see through him if his complexes are so easily displayed. How does he deal with those trolls, or does he just pick his targets from those who he can dupe easily?

For his “hard to please” trait, does this negatively affect Durand himself or just his opinions of those around him? What kind of expectations does Durand have of himself, and would failure set him back or otherwise hurt him? That could be something to think about for this trait, as it’s currently not reading as well as his other flaws and strengths.

As for his “mercurial” flaw, I’m really interested in what causes Durand’s mood swings since it’s not mentioned in depth in his personality section. It could call back to when you talk to his habit of scaring easily, so is this due to exterior circumstances? Or is it more related to his self-centered attitude, like uppity temper tantrums?

I hope this explained things....? I'm sick so it probably didn't. xD

That clears up some of it; I see you've got most of this down already so that's good. As for his manipulation, how does he deal with someone, high-blooded or not, who sees through him? I didn't see that answer, but it will likely be important considering how transparent his ego is.

Moodiness seems fine -- sounds like he just has more bad nights than the regular troll. (Throwing in a reminder that trolls sleep in recuperacoons, and are not active during the day!)

I'm still not sold on his "hard to please" flaw, however. The way you elaborated on it really makes it sound like a strength, rather than a flaw. He might tell people to work harder (or as hard as him), and through giving himself high standards he uses that to keep trying and persisting. If you act me, that's a pretty valuable trait! The only downside you mention would be if someone called him on a particular failure, but even that seems circumstantial and not a sure thing. Overall his standards seem to motivate and benefit him, and don't have a significant negative impact.

I would suggest rethinking his hard to please trait, or incorporating it into his personality section and omitting it from his flaws entirely (you'll need to substitute something else if you do this).

Once you nail down that flaw, shoot me a quote and I'll give him a last once-over. Get well soon!

Because I could not think of any other way to turn that into a flaw I just put it in his personality section along with his charismatic strength. That way it's still there?

(last things before i say goodbye crying )

"As soon as he wakes up, after the morning meal"
- don't forget about trolls inactivity during the day and
putting that in your writing instead! this would be "evening".

You also need to change the bit in "mercurial" concerning
this too, to "recuperacoon" and "night"

he does tend to pray on those blow him,
- *prey and *below him (at least, I'm hoping you mean below)
