The suns warm rays cascaded down through the mighty tree branches..warming the slowly awakening stallion's pale white form. Birds chirped in the trees, creatures big or small moved through the forest, making it come to life. Lifting his head the male gave a small shake of his mane..smirking when two unhappy chirps filled the air. Within the inky black tresses slept two colorful birds "Time to get up and eat, play nice together. Don't get hurt." Tone serious but, soft Mikasi rose to his feet..shaking his mane again till the two birds came out. Watching them until they had landed a few feet off in trees to 'hunt' the male began his usual daily things. He checked the pelts he'd been working on..checked their supplies and looked to make sure there would be food waiting for his beloved mate when she awakened. Astraea's slumbering form made his heart skip a beat the mare that had stolen his heart so completely..made him feel like home was where ever they were together. However the stallion caught sight of their new bundles. The ones they had found while exploring, the ones that were a gift from the heavens. When a large leaf of berries had been pushed near his mate he began realizing their 'home' was not much protection...with two little foals soon to be part of the world..he felt an overwhelming urge to build a nest. A nest up in the trees where they could all be safe. Like the ones the flock had built but, when they built them it was more of a community effort and stallions didn't typically help unless it involved heavier lifting. Glancing around the clearing and tapping his claws against the earth Mikasi turned to start looking over the trees, bumping against them to check for strength. To find the sturdiest one. How hard could it be to build a nest and a simple ramp up to it? A ramp his mate without claws could use..would she like it? Frowning, brows furrowing he moved to begin gathering large branches, the largest he could carry without help. Perhaps his father would come assist. Honovi seemed to know a bit more about home building than Mikasi.

-------------------------------------------------------

Opening her eyes slowly at the sounds of chirping birds above her, she looked around for a moment before her eyes fell on her mate. A small smile appeared on her muzzle as she rose, stretching as much as she could to get all those annoying kinks out of her body. She walked over to his side wondering what he was up to today and thought about everything that had happened to them in such short time. She glanced over at the baskets that were quietly nestled in a little makeshift nest the two of them made and even though it wasn’t great it was still something. Something they made together for their children. Blood related or not they were still theirs no matter how anyone looked at it. They were going to raise them until they grew up. She was always hoping for more children though. Her father always wanted a big family and now that he had eleven kids, adopted and his own, he still wanted more. She felt she was that way as well. Wanting to adopt as many as she could and then give birth to as many as she could. She wanted to be a mother to all. A mother that wouldn’t abandon a child in need and would be there for them no matter what breed they were or how different they were to her.

“What are you up to?” She asked curiously seeing that he was determined about something today. She nuzzled his neck gently and nipped his mane making sure he didn’t have anything stuck in it that would give him further problems. He was probably the best thing that happened in her life. Something that she wouldn’t want to trade for anything else in the world and he was the one thing that made her the happiest. He was the one thing that made her want to be a better made for herself, him and the children. “Have you thought of names for our two new members of the family?” She asked as she rested her head against his neck feeling a sense of pride take over as she looked at the two baskets. She wondered what was inside and wondered how they were going to act. She was ready to be a mother and felt more mature then she had felt in a very long time. “I have a couple names in mind, but I really like the name Chosovi for a girl. You know to give a kind of homage to your father.” She said to him with a small smile. She couldn’t believe they were a family now. One that was going to grow so much in the years to come and she couldn’t wait.

Mikasi could hear his beloved stirring just as his clawed foot gripped a larger branch to drag into the ever growing pile, it was coming along. They really should try to find some nice raccoon's though..the creatures were known to be quite helpful with their nimble little paws.Feeling her gentle, loving touch made his heart skip a few beats. Turning all attention to her the stallion's gaze warmed when he spoke "A nest for our family my beauty. I'll have to get father's help but, I think it will be fine..it won't be in the trees like how the flock had it. Still it will be safe. Warm..we can cover it with soft pelts..and the blanket I made for you." Hearing her questions over names gave Mikasi pause as he again went back to hefting less large branches into the slowly forming circle. Names names. After a bit more shuffling around the stallion's gaze flickered to the nearly identical baskets, a name coming out of nowhere from his lips. "Awahi...Chosovi and Awahi perhaps? What do you think?" He still couldn't quite comprehend that they were a family! The male who was told in the flock that his dreams of dancing were silly..the one whom had always felt so out of place even when he'd tried so very hard to fit in. At last Mikasi knew that this was home, this was where his heart would forever reside. Next to the mare of his dreams and their tiny miracles from the heavens above. "I love you."

-------------------------------------------------------

A small blush appeared on the mare's cheeks. Mikasi always knew how to make her feel so alive and so loved. There wasn't a day that went by where she didn't feel that strong bond with him and she knew it would last forever. He was the mate she had been looking for all that time and she was so happy she never settled for second best. He would always be first in her heart no matter what. "I love you too." She told him giving a gentle nuzzle into his neck before rising to her feet. She bounced the two names in her head thinking they were absolutely perfect for their children and she could definitely see their personalities in the names already. "I like both of those names. Chosovi and Awahi. I can see both being strong individuals one day." She gave a nod still feeling completely shocked that they were a family now. They had children of their own. Children that they could watch grow and mature into adults. She had always wanted to be a mother and now it was finally happening.

"I was thinking we should look for some supplies or some more food today, but I don't want to leave the baskets alone. Would they be safe if we left them in the nest?" She still wasn't sure if she liked that idea and didn't know if it truly was safe. Anyone could just come along and snatch them up if they wanted to. "We wouldn't be gone for long right?" She eyed the two seemingly identical baskets and wondered what was inside them. She walked over to them and gently nosed each one with a soft smile. "I want to make sure we have enough food in case they open up soon." She didn't know how long it took before they popped open. She was a new mother and this was all a new experience for her. They were both new to this. "I am so happy." She said blissfully feeling like nothing could ever bring her down from the spot she was at.

The thought of leaving the new little baskets left a bad feeling in his heart..no the nest wasn't finished. Even if they left their familiar's behind to keep watch it wouldn't be safe enough as far as Mikasi was concerned. Shaking his head in the negative the stallion moved towards the nearby trail, speaking as he went. "Wait here dear one. I'll go get my father..he can basket sit for us. I just don't feel comfortable leaving our precious ones all alone.." Smiling he stepped quickly through the forest, almost racing to nudge against a familiar slumbering form..tucked beneath a shady spot.

Honovi stirred with a soft grunt, eventually rising when Mikasi murmured the news to him. Bright eyes now gazed up into the younger males..a grin following. His father did adore foals. As they made their way back to Astraea in that moment the pale stallion felt his heart swell with further pride & joy as Honovi moved to lovingly welcome the two tiny miracles. The elder stallion also paused to smile at his sweet daughter..nose bumping her's in gentle greeting. "They are beautiful. I will guard them with me life, you two go enjoy a small break before they come out and run wild." Chuckling lightly he settled his body next to the two pale baskets..a gentle rumbling lullaby leaving Honovi's lips.

-------------------------------------------------------

Astraea waited patiently for Mikasi to get his father to watch their two little ones. She could feel her chest tighten at the thought of leaving them alone and didn’t know how she was going to be able to travel without them by her side. What if they opened and they weren’t there to see them for the first time? She would be devastated if that happened. Lost in her thoughts, she snapped back to reality when she saw Honovi cradle the baskets knowing he was going to keep a very watchful eye over them. He was a very good father even if he never gave himself credit for it and Mikasi had those same kinds of qualities within him. Smiling softly, she joined her mate’s side and gave him a gentle nuzzle before glancing over to her father in law. “Thank you for watching them. We won’t be to long I promise.” She gave a nod as she slowly began to walk away from him with her mate right there beside her.

“I can’t believe we are a family. It feels…too surreal and I’m afraid it’s a dream.” She knew it wasn’t, but it was just too damn good and she wad afraid something horrible was going to happen one day. “I know it’s stupid of me to think this way, but I worry sometimes.” She hadn’t seen her father in a very long time and she felt maybe it was time she gave him a visit or at least seen some of her siblings again. “But with you I feel I could do anything..and I am happy for that.” She smiled looking over to her mate as she walked further and further into an open clearing. Their adventure was only beginning.
