Cody nodded, but still felt the concern on the edges. They'd been teens when they'd escaped this place? Had they all come from here? The gray wolf had looked rather lost in the whole mess...

His ears perked, and he saluted her confidently. "No one will be slitting my throat anytime soon!" he assured. Well, he hoped! He picked up his pace a little to catch up again, and get out from the paths of any loose rock that might trip him up. "We'll get them back.."

Blake could only watch. The place was so void of anything warm. Even the fires seemed to crackle with cold rather than heat. And speaking of cold... he pressed his lips at the sight of the male sitting before them. Far too young to me Raine's father... He was like the fires, and spread the chill where the smile should have welcomed and warmed. His eyes kept flicking back to Raine, watching her as she conversed with the male that even she didn't know. His own gut was tense, worried what this unexpected individual might mean for Raine's situation. Though he knew he was out of his element, he had to bite his tongue to keep from growling when Kyron approached Raine. Him reacting would do nothing but instigate and cause Raine trouble.

He was relieved when they left to the side, though only marginally. They were leaving the main hall, but going deeper into the fortress... He was more than glad to duck into the new room with her, pausing as he stepped onto one of the more comfortable furs as opposed to the hard stone.

His brow knit as Raine spoke, and he walked over to pull her into a quick embrace. He didn't know what to say... He was suddenly more worried about being lost out in the cold with all those guards than in these halls. As long as he had Raine in sight, he was okay. If they got separated though, which would surely happen when Raine went to see her father... What would he do then? "You don't know who that is?" he asked instead, changing the subject.

"Seriously." Akemi looked back to Cody with what appeared to be true concern in her golden gaze, "I don't want your blood on my paws. These aren't your average street thugs after all." If anything those punks who had fought them back in the village were just pups. These guys however...not only were they warriors, but they had been trained in the harshest of winter climates.

She much preferred her southern forests thank you very much.

"Of course." She replied without hesitation, "I just wonder how many of those suckers we'll have to cut to get 'em back though." As she moved forward the trail got thin and rockier. Cursing slightly Akemi even stumbled on a loose stone and nearly found herself falling from the cliff side. A back paw dug into the dirt as she threw herself backwards back onto solid land, "Dammit." That was embarrassing...

Sudden warmth in the cold brought Raine out of her worried thoughts, "Bla-Blake." Flushing she found herself frozen in his embrace. It felt rather good to be in those familiar arms. A hint of warmth in this dark place...the thought brought a fleeting smile to her face. Swallowing back the tears she raised her own arms to circle around his back so she could rest her head against his neck, "Thank you."

For the briefest of moments she closed her eyes and let the images of the place fade away to be replaced with memories of her new home, her real home. If only they were true. When she opened her eyes the memories would be gone replaced by the bitter reality. Whether she liked it or not she was back in the frozen hell that she left years ago.

Shaking her head at his question Raine pulled back, "I don't know. I've never seen anyone take father's place...as a spokesperson." She wrinkled her nose at the thought, "He never backed down to let anyone take charge and well...let's just say any potential replacements for his role would disappear quickly enough." So who was this Kyron and why did the memory of his gaze send a shiver down her back? Raine shook her head, "Tonight I hope to find my answers...then we'll leave. I don't want to linger here."

She rubbed her hands down her arms to brush off the cold fear, "Still...if not. You get out okay? There's a passage behind the tapestry right of the great fire...just sneak through it after dinner. I'll either meet you outside by the back gates to the forest...or if not then you go into the forest." She smiled bitterly, "A lot of the villagers secretly fear the woods as a haunted place. Father would send captives there...to die and they say their spirits along with other fallen warriors live there. Akemi should be taking a path that cuts through that way though. Surely she'll be there soon."

Surely Akemi had recovered by now. Raine could only hope.

Cody stared at Akemi a moment before nodding. "I know you're serious, and I know they are serious. I am, too." How could he not fall for this woman? She was already concerned that he would get hurt rather than glad he might provide a sacrificial distraction so that she could escape with the others. A good sign.

"Hopefully, as few as possible," he muttered, not looking forward to fighting such wolves...

Seeing the slip, he planted his own paws as best as he could, and reached an arm out to grab her if needed. He sighed with relief when she seemed to catch herself. "Gonna have to slow down a little. No wonder they took the longer road. Too many paws here would send everyone tumbling."

As she settled against him, Blake felt his cheeks flushing slightly. That had been acting without thinking... but, thankfully, Raine accepted it. He just wanted to hold her until all the cold went away... until they were back home. This.. this wasn't home. Right?

He let her pull back, his arms dropping to his sides. Even he didn't like the sound of this new speaker. Maybe something really was going on with Raine's father? The mention again of him leaving alone made him wince. He had promised... "Okay, I got it. ....but we're leaving together, and we can both go find Akemi." He crossed his arms and turned to take a closer look around the room. Even though the fire kept it warm, the room felt like it had been empty for a while.

"You better be." Huffed Akemi quietly as she continued on the trail. The last thing she needed was another body to lug through the forest. It was going to be hard enough getting out as it was.

Akemi chuckled, "Hopefully as few as possible get away, ya mean?" She was willing to cut into a good few of them. After all she despised these bastards who kept toying with her pack mate's life. Cursing a bit the wolftaur just waved her arm back towards Cody, "Don't worry about it. This is actually a branch of the older path...just thought it would be quicker." Who cared about a little fall?

"If you're worried about your balance ya can head back pup." She commented before trudging ahead. Her gaze narrowed as she studied the area around them. From here the mountain path would spiral down towards that stupid valley...skirting past the edge of those damn woods they could be there by sunset.

She was already missing his warmth. Holding back a sigh Raine nodded, "That's the plan, right?" Why then did she have knot in her stomach? This really is worrisome. As it was the wolftaur trailed her fingers along the cold stone wall, "I guess all we can do is rest up for the next couple of hours and get ready for dinner."

"yeah, that's totally what I meant." While he didn't relish the idea of the coming fight, there would be a certain satisfaction to beating this crew...

Cody snorted and sighed. "Maybe they should have taken this path. Coulda stopped them from reaching the top with a simple landslide or two." Ears perking, he snorted again. "Hey, I'm not the one who slipped, now am I?" he teased. "Come on then. "

Blake frowned as he sat down by the central fire. Raine sounded so uncertain... He didn't want to leave her behind. Not even for a moment. Rest? How was he supposed to rest?

Still, as the time passed, the fire warmed his chilled body. Even if it couldn't reach the ice in his belly, it was the most comfortable he'd been since they'd left that town where they'd been found by the even icier crew. He could feel his eyelids growing heavy. "Raine?" he murmured, patting the seat at his side. He didn't care at the moment how forward it might seem. He'd already hugged her, and he wanted to feel her nearby if he was going to doze off.
