Question 6 - What was the first N64 game you played and what was the experience like?
PostPosted: Sat Sep 07, 2013 1:55 am
Mine was Super Mario 64. It was in the relatively large Toys R Us store in the nearby retail park and it really struck me in a way many games just don't. Everything came together to leave a lasting impression and it left me wanting to an N64 bad. The leap into 3D was a fun one.

There's more to the story but my mind is having a "just leave me behind..save yourself!!" day..so I'll edit later or whatnot.

I think mine was probably Mario 64, too. I remember getting my N64 but I don't really remember playing it for the first time that much. I remember getting it for my birthday one year, having never played a demo at a store or anything and thinking how cool it was to move around in 3D, but since I was at such a young age, I didn't really GET how amazing it was for the time.

I did fly around Bob-Omb Battlefield for probably 100 hours, though.

Also, happy birthday FS!

i think mine was actually golden eye. having gotten a PSX for cristmas and not a 64 at the time i found playing it kinda funky. mainly cause the first playstation controllers had no thumbstick. and the controller designs were worlds apart.

the first 64 game i enjoyed is one nintendo will never let back onto its system.

Conker's bad fur day.

Also Mario 64, I think... I got both Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing with my N64, but I think I tried Mario first.

All I remember is my dad telling me that this game is in 3D so it's not like the games I'm used to and will be harder. Some of my first memories of that game are of exploring the outside of the castle a lot, and swimming in the water there... I believe the water stopped being blue at a certain point, and it was like yellow? I might be remembering wrong.

I also remember being really excited about finally getting my first power star because I was 7 and majorly sucky at games.

It was either Turok or Mario Kart.

Maybe it was golden eye? but I didn't own Mario 64 until the gamecube generation. I rented it a few times, though.

Well, that seems to have been a worthwhile question.

@ Fish - Thanks man, just don't mention my age..

Question 7 - We've seen plenty of trends/phases in gaming over the years..from the days when FPS's ruled the earth to the deluge of racing games. With the launch of a new generation of consoles it would be a good time to push into a new phase so my question is; what will that phase be?
PostPosted: Sun Sep 08, 2013 8:42 am
What would I like to see or what do I foresee it being? I think we're still on the tailend of the FPS deluge, but I really could not tell you what would be next. FPSes are perfect for what they are because any braindead retard can buy a Playstation or Xbox to get the latest Call of Duty and never pick up anything else outside of Madden.

What would I like? Well, every big type of game has had its day, pretty much. Platformers, puzzle games, racing games, RPGs, Sim-like games, FPSes... What else could they really do? I'll just say Nintendo games because I'm not creative enough for a good answer.

User created content games are on the rise, and will continue to rise, and I can easily see them displacing FPS games. It's not just minecraft, though that is the bulk of it still.

People can't get enough of any game where they can make stuff and share it with a community. It was the perfect time for animal crossing. 3 previous entries barely made a splash but social media has changed the game. Now everyone's tumbling their interactions with their critters, much like everyone and their grandma is posting videos of minecraft creations... STILL.

Microsoft gave a relative lot of screen time to some prototype game about world building which shows that they are atleast passing aware of this rising trend; though for the life of me I can't remember the name of the game.

@Fish - A Nintendo games theme would actually be awesome and long overdue..people need to start appreciatin'

@Kegan - I hadn't thought about that subset of games but it seems really obvious now..will be interesting to see where things go.

Blue, because you'll never have to take them over a narrow water path worrying that all hell will come to murder them all... or they'll just jump in and drown themselves.
