User Image Cian rubbed his bleary eyes and blinked. He could barely believe what his eyes had shown him. Either he was seeing things from staying up way too late the night before, or there actually was an automated wheelchair rolling down the hallway. He had thought electronic things wouldn't work at hogwarts!

Of course it might be propelled by a spell..or perhaps the person sitting in it was actually pushing the wheels. Cian hadn't really been close enough to tell. He grabbed the closest gryffindor's sleeve and asked him in a rather excited voice.
"Is that wheelchair real? Was it moving on it's own?"

the older boy looked down at him in surprise and then chuckled. "Oh it's real. Don't you remember the sorting? The kid's got an enchanted wheelchair since he was born without the use of his legs. I don't think anyone's ever seen anything that amazing before. Everyone is talking about it. How could you miss it at your sorting?"

Cian cringed slightly. "Well after I was sorted I kind of fell asleep, I wasn't able to sleep the whole night before and I ended up crashing at the table before the sorting was through." He admitted.

The other kid laughed and hit him on the back. "Well maybe this will teach you to sleep better." He winked at him, causing Cian to redden slightly.

He was notorious for falling asleep in class or not getting up in time for his first class of the morning. He already been dubbed "Rip Van Cian" by his bunkmates much to his embarrassment. "Well I shall have to try." He said with a shrug, and then gazed after the disappearing chair.

"I think I shall go have a talk with him, I bet he wouldn't mind making a new friend." Cian said more to himself than the other kid.

With that Cian rushed down the hall, weaving around those that got in his way until he finally caught up to the wheelchair and it's occupant. He slowed to a slower walk next to it and down at the boy. "Hello," he said with a grin. "I'm Cian, what's your name?"

Oscar pushed the wheels of his chair along hall and was a little shocked at the seeming random greeting, but stopped his chair to shake the other's hand. "Oscar Masterman, it's a pleser to meet you." he said, his mother's insistnce was to always greet people new propperly. Though he hadn't really remembered Cian from the sorting, the only other one that stood out at the time, was Exad with his blue skin, who was also in Ravenclaw.

Oscar studded Cian for a moment, and wondered what about his chair had atracted him. Cian was grinning, that ment he didn't want to help. That was good, but there was still the posiblity of a prank waiting.

Oscar noticed that Cian was a Griffindor so tryed to remember him in the classes he had with Gryffindor. Finaly it fell into place Cian, was the student always falling asleep in the classes, History of Magic was understandable, but the other classes? Maybe he had some sort of sleeping disorder.

Cian could see the other was a bit shocked by his sudden appearance and felt bad that he had snuck up on the other boy. "Nice to meet you, Oscar." Cian replied shaking his hand back.

Cian could see the other was studying him, probably wondering why he had been approached. "I couldn't help but be fascinated by your chair, it's really sweet. How exactly does it work?" he asked after a moment of silence.

He hoped that Oscar wouldn't mind the question, God knew how many times he must have answered it in the past couple of weeks.

"If you don't want to answer that you don't have to. I imagine a lot of people have been curious about your chair." Cian said bobbing his head low as his face reddened slightly.

He really ought to think things through first before just blurting out questions like that. Hopefully Oscar wouldn't be put out by the question or his sudden appearance.

Oscar blinked Cian was fascinated by the chair? Yeah it was the first one that he knew of in a magic castle but it was fascinating? Oscar normaly didn't like people asking about his chair because it was more about his inobility to walk or thinking he needed help because of it, not how his chair worked, unless they where new to a chair themselves and didn't know how to rotate.

Once Oscar got over his inital serprize, "Like any other chair, both hands going in the same deraction to go strate, ether forwords or backwords, in opiset derctions to turn. Enless you were wondering about how I get up and down the stairs, that's because of a carm my mom made that's cast on the two big ones. Wich is kind of nice since I've seen some kids get stuck on serten ones. I just end up stuck in mud," he answered slightly deminstrating the derection part as he said it. "I have a sports one at home," he added though not really knowing why.

"I don't really like when people think I can't get to or do the same things as others, because of the chair, which is why I don't like people helping. I can't get to serten places because doors arn't wide enough, but that's not a problem here.... well with the exeption of the night part of Astronay class, my chair doesn't do latters. But there's the float charm for that... only time I really need some help. I can't ride a broom eather.... since you need leg strangth to hold on." he exsplained.

Cian had never really been around anything mechanical, having grown up in a small fishing village in Ireland, the major thing he had seen had been a milking machine or a tractor. He knew that there were more mechanical things in the world, but had no idea how they might work so he was rather fascinated with the workings of the wheelchair.

Cian listened intently as Oscar explained how the chair worked. It all sounded rather amazing to him. Though perhaps not the part where he was getting stuck in the mud. "I've gotten stuck a few times," he admitted with a laugh. "How do you get out of the mud when you get stuck? Do you have to ask for help? I imagine that would be frustrating." Cian found himself saying.

Cian wasn't surprised to hear that Oscar hated people thinking he was helpless. No one wanted to be thought of that way, especially boys. Cian recalled seeing something floating up the Astronomy tower once when he had been walking by and realized it had been Oscar's chair. "Oh that was your chair I saw!" He exclaimed and laughed. "I swear I had been seeing things at the time. I guess now I know better." He added.

Cian felt rather sad that Oscar would never get the chance to ride on a broom. It was such a thrilling experience. He loved riding on a broom..it felt like flying.
"Well perhaps one day someone will figure out an alternative for you."

Oscar thought about some, "Sometimes I'll ask for help, and other times, or if I can reach a stick or something I can dig myself out, And yes it can be. Especially the cleaning part of it. I try not to use more then the specialized stair charm on my wheels, I've seen what some spells can do when mixed. My mother being in the spell registry and the Ministry of Magic and my Dad being a Healer at St Margles I was fairly lucky to be able to get the chair this way. So I don't want to end up not being able to come to Hogwarts anymore because of my chair not working right." He admitted then added, "Though I think my Basketball team would like me back."

Oscar chuckled a little "Everything moves, though how some of the stairs do it is still a mystery to me, even after reading the Hogwart's history book." he said with a smirk.

Oscar shook his head a little "They have it's just illegal in Britten. It's call a "Flying carpet" but I'd have to go down to Egypt or some other place to do so.... I don't really like flu-pouder though." This Cian kid wasn't to bad. And he seemed like he would hang on any macanical wonder that he camed across

Cian nodded as Oscar explained what he normally did. He figured that even though Oscar was in a chair he wanted to be as independent as he could be. Which wasn't surprising. Most kids wanted to do things their own way, especially when they first went away from home. At least Oscar seemed to know how to ask for help when he needed it.

"Well I can imagine it would be." he replied. Cian completely understood how spells could react badly with one another. He had been on the end of two particularly annoying spells in his life and it had taken him the better part of a year to grow back his eyebrows in a normal color. He wasn't about to tell anyone that he had once sported neon pink eyebrows.

"Well that's good. It would be terrible not to be able to attend school just because something happened to your chair. Basketball? What sort of game is that?"

He had never heard of a game called that before. He imagined it had something to do with some sort of basket and a ball. Still..that didn't help him begin to figure out what the game was about. He some how figured it was some sort of muggle game.

Cian couldn't help but laugh. "Sure everything moves, but your chair moves in a completely different way than I was used to seeing. It almost made me think of something out of Jules Verne. Yeah those stairs are a bit crazy at times. I hope I never get stuck on them when they're moving."

Cian was stunned to hear about flying carpets being illegal in Britain. He figured that it had something to do with people using them too much and exposing themselves to muggles. That wouldn't do very good.
"Ah that's interesting. I guess I'll have to go to Egypt to see them one day. So are you headed to the Great Hall for lunch? Can I sit with you?"

Cian had noticed that at lunch time people from different houses often sat together. He knew sitting with a Ravenclaw wouldn't earn him glares like those who sat with Slytherins, not that he would give a care what people thought. He just wanted to get to know Oscar better and to spend more time with the Ravenclaw.

Oscar smiled a little and nodded "Yeah, some of them where pritty grusome," he admitted "So yeah got to be careful with spells sometimes, but there are others who figure out new spells too. You never really can tell what will work with another spell." he said scratching his neck.

Oscar looked at him a little shocked before realizing he knew both worlds growing up where others normally didn't. "Basketball is a muggle game, There's two baskets about 46 cm in diameter and 3.05 m off the ground, The size of the court vary by age, the American NBA has the biggest courts measuring 94 feet by 50 ft. So ruffly 28 m by 15 m give or take. Those Americans and their measuring. They need to get on the metric like everyone else. There are five people playing on each team during an official game, but their are others for when someone gets tired. In simple terms the goal of the game is to put the ball in the basket that the other team is guarding as many times as possible before time runs out.... Wow I just made the game sound lamer then it is." he said realizing how he put it.

He nodded "Well at lest I have breaks if that happens to me." Oscar chuckled a little at it but then shook his head "As long as I'm not late to a class, I really don't care how much they change... Jules Verne? I don't think I know who that is." he admitted then he nodded "You can as long as you don't mind sitting at the end of the table, Don't like to leave my chair in people's way." he said as he pushed his seat forward.

Cian had heard that some spells could cause a lot of gruesome things, though he had never personally seen them. He kind of didn't want to see those sorts of things. He nodded at Oscar's words.
"I wouldn't want to even imagine what could happen. There are some things you never want to see."

Cian couldn't help but grin at Oscar's shocked expression. He didn't say anything but listened avidly as the other tried to explain the game. He wondered just how they guarded the goals. He supposed the only way he would understand the game would be to see an actual game.

"Oh I don't know about that, it reminds me a little of quidditch and that's not a boring game. Though I suppose if you had to try and describe it to someone who had never heard of it they might think it boring. Though..maybe not. I mean after all how could flying on a broom be boring?"
Cian grimaced when he realized that Oscar would probably never get to ride on a broom.

"Sorry," He said sheepishly. "talk about me putting my foot in my mouth."

"That's good. Yeah that would annoy me too. Getting stuck on the stairs and missing a class wouldn't be very much fun, unless it were History of Magic or something equally difficult." Cian replied with a grin.

"That's fine, I don't mind sitting on the end." Cian replied with a grin and followed Oscar over to the table.

"As for Jules Verne, I shall have to introduce you to his books in the library when you have some extra time. Perhaps after all the classes are over and you've finished your homework we can do it then." Cian suggested as he sat down.

Oscar nodded, "Yeah some things you wish you can unsee." he agreed.

Oscar smirked and shook his head "Nah, don't be. The fact you forgot means that you didn't think about this thing.... till after you said it. Though it's one thing I won't know. Though from what I've seen you need confidince to fly one," he said "Maybe if you're good enough you should try out for your house's team.... once there's an opening that is."

He smirked a little as he wheeled to the other binch and moved himself from his chair to the binch and somewhat moved his chair so it was long side the end of the table. After his first meal in the Great Hall he did this as it was a better alinment wise for sitting and eating.

"I have to agree though, it may sound more boring having it exsplained without any real reffrinces to it. " he said thinking it over. "But I can't really show you a true game but I can show you how to play one on one...." he added "Now I have two people to show it to. You and Faye." he said more to himself with a chuckle.

"I've noticed that a lot of people seem to have difficulty with History of Magic. Grant it the way the teacher exsplanes things doesn't exsactly help, but History's not that bad.... once you figure out the best way to learn it." he said with a smirk he too could easly fall pray to the drone of how the Professor spoke but he was abel to get the information he needed by reading the book. "You just have to figure out what about it excites you." he exsplained.

Oscar nodded "Yeah, the end of the week sounds good I guess." he said thinking about meeting someone new.
